I wanted to take my wife to a garden (Fitz-Reading in Rockford) that I had seen while on RAGBRAI. I chose to stay in Clear Lake which is a town we had overnighted in while on the ride and it is close to the gardens. I did my usual search for a B & B in or near Clear Lake and decided on Larch Pine. They were full on the weekend so decided to stay Thursday evening and visit the gardens the next morning. It was a good decision. Our host Darlene was very accommodating and friendly. The location is very convenient and away from the downtown noise at the same time. The breakfast she served in the AM was outstanding. It consisted with fresh fruit with yogurt, rolls, scrambled eggs, both bacon and sausage, and rather special French toast all served with great coffee and orange juice. The location is close to the Lake, The Surf Ballroom, and downtown, but quiet. I would definitely stay there again. Larry C
