Henry Mischler House
Henry Mischler built the Queen Anne style house in 1897. He worked at Bressmer Dry Goods in downtown Springfield. It was occupied by the Mischler family until 1982, and is now a beautiful bed & breakfast inn overlooking the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.
The first floor features a cozy living room, furnished with period style furniture. The formal dining room is separated from the parlor by an ornate handcrafted mahogany arch. The parlor has the original fireplace, with a beautiful carved mantle and a hearth of rose colored Italian tile. The parlor also features a stained glass window over an antique rosewood square grand piano from Germany. The original gas lighting fixtures have been converted to electricity.
A hand carved oak banister graces the stairway to the second floor where four of the guestrooms are located. Each of the rooms is decorated with wallcoverings, lace curtains and antiques.
Join us for a stay that is truly relaxing. In the winter you can curl up beside a cozy fire with a glass of wine and a good book. In the summer, lounge on the private back patio surrounded by plants, trees, flowers and the sound of gentle flowing water. In the evening, you can sit on the front porch and gaze down the lantern lit street where Abraham Lincoln once walked.
The home is located in an area of great importance in American history. As a guest of the Mischler House, you can enjoy this atmosphere of comfortable turn of the century elegance as you explore Springfield's unique national treasure, the home of our 16th President.
