Chestnut Street Inn

Our stay in early May, 2013, at the Chestnut Street Inn was a delight for old house fans. All the reviews of the amazing food, thoughtful hospitality and comfy beds are accurate. You can also experience the difference between pre-Civil War and turn of the century residential architecture with a walk around a few blocks. Just think, in 1854 “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair” was a pop tune. The Lincoln -Douglas debates were in their infancy. A hot technology was the windmill. Steam power was in its heyday. And an elegant Federal style house with a gracious dining room was being completed at 301 East Chestnut Street in Sheffield, Illinois, Thanks to Jeff and Monica for making our 30th anniversary so special. 2 nights with my sisters in the Green Room (suite). Very accommodating to our needs! And Monika was SO attentive and interested! She made it seem like we were the only guests she'd ever had and did everything just for us!

By now, we've lost count of the number of times we have stayed at the Chestnut Inn. But one thing that we've not forgotten is the warm hospitality, lovely rooms, and gourmet dinners that await us each time we visit there. A two hour drive for us, The Chestnut Inn is our "go to" favorite, whether it be a special occassion, to meet up with friends, or a quiet retreat for the two of us. We stay in B&B's several times a year as we travel, and have not yet found one that can begin to measure up to what we have come to expect when staying with Jeff and Monika. Connie and John

This is our first pleasant experience with a B&B. Jeff and Monica were gracious hosts, outgoing and made us feel at home. They have a beautiful home and are fun and wanted us to enjoy ourselves during our stay. The room was nice and bathroom clean. Decorations were cool, we had the Federal Room. Food was good but there is no selection, you eat what is prepared.

Chestnut Street Inn was a wonderful place to stay. Rooms were very nice, dinner and breakfast were interesting and delicious and the hosts were very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend!

Staying at Chestnut Street Inn is always a delightful experience. The rooms are extremely comfortable and luxurious, the food is out of this world and the atmosphere is peaceful. We spent a 3-day relaxing retreat and would recommend it for anyone. There is plenty to do in the area if you desire to be active and the Inn is a wonderful place to come back to in order to relax and rest. I cannot think of a better place to be!

I had some of the best food I'd had in a long time. Monika is really a great chef. The inn is pretty and the rooms are cozy, and Jeff made us feel right at home. Jeff & Monika are great hosts, and did everything possible to enrich our stay at the chestnut street inn. Imagine a private suite, with the softest linens that your skin has ever touched ~ in a historic home ~ surrounded by all of the amenities that a 4 star place should have ~ you won't find chocolate on your pillows here...you WILL find, however, an ENTIRE BOWL full to the brim next to your bed instead (how sweet is that? lol) ~ and to top it all off, JULIA CHILD is your chef not only for Breakfast, but for DINNER TOO!!! (Okay, so the Chef isn't really Julia Child, but man oh man she's a close second!) Yes, I said DINNER TOO! I have stayed in a LOT of B&B throughout the world and it is VERY VERY RARE to find , not only a B&B that offers you dinner, BUT... one that offers a 4 course (yes 4 courses!!) dinner as an option for that evenings stay! So....to sum it all up, IF Julia Child were to ever open her own Bed & Breakfast THIS would be her competition!!! Love, Love Love The Chestnut Street Inn !!!!!

Chestnut Street Inn is a beautiful and well maintained old home. Monica and Jeff are welcoming and friendly hosts. You feel right at home there. The Blue room suite had the perfect accommodations for a few friends having a reunion. Lots of space to gather, talk and relax. We chose the dinner option and were very satisfied. Monica cooks with fresh local foods and she has wonderful culinary skills. Jeff and Monica have many interesting experiences to share as well. We will return.

We were in the area to spend some family time and have experienced miserable hotel stay in the area, so I decided to do the B&B trip and I must tell you this stay has changed my mind on B&B's. My past experiences have always been mediocre. The Sudakov’s truly make the B&B stay memorable and the food is as good as it gets. You will be missing a great experience if you have the opportunity to stay at the Chestnut Street Inn and pass it up. Try it, you will love it and I’m sure you will return, we definitely will. we stayed 2 nights in the Federal room for our 34 wedding anniversary. On Saturday night we had dinner that Chef Monica prepared, it was a true culinary experience, wonderful meal. The whole weekend was great. Jeff and Monica are wonderful host and made us feel like home.

My husband and I were driving cross country and were passing through Illinois and we could not pass up staying a night at The Chestnut Street Inn! The innkeepers Monika and Jeff are so welcoming and just overall amazing people. We arrived just in time for dinner and Wow.. what a treat it was! So fresh and delicious and well to say that Monika is an amazing chef is an understatement. Our room was so comfortable.. from the pillows to the mattress and everything really. Breakfast was again delicious and fresh. The coffee was crazy good. So good that we bought a whole bag of beans to take home with us lol. Thank you Monika and Jeff for being so awesome!

Monica and Jeff are the hosts of this charming B and B in small town Illinois. My husband and I drove over 2 hours for a weekend of relaxation. This place was perfect. Our room was beautiful with lovely amenities. The living room couches were perfect to relax on and read. The food is outstanding. Breakfast was wonderful shared with many lovely people. Dinner, which is an additional cost, was incredible. Monica's specialty is Mediterranean cuisine which is our favorite. Jeff is full of stories which entertained us. This place is a must. My wife and I enjoy staying at B&B's and have been to many. Chestnut Street Inn is among the best, and we and several of our family have stayed here multiple times. Jeff and Monica are wonderful innkeepers, giving us a comfortable place to retreat from our busy lives. Monica's cooking skills and creativity are exemplary. In addition to her wonderful breakfasts we purchased two optional dinners during our stay, one Moroccan and one American. We thoroughly enjoyed these meals and our stay, and highly recommend this inn.

I booked a room for Friday night as a belated Christmas present for my girlfriend. Our room was cozy and clean, and the food was delicious. I couldn't have asked for a warmer or more hospitable environment. We'll certainly be back soon, hopefully for a full weekend. Thanks for everything!

This was our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast and won't be our last. We had a very relaxing and peaceful weekend. Our hosts were marvelous and made us feel very comfortable. I found the Chestnut Inn by searching on google vegan/vegetarian bed and breakfast in Illinois and the Chestnut Inn was found. Monika accommodated our dietary needs and made the most delicious vegan dishes for us. She definitely is a great chef. We would highly recommend a stay with them.

We wanted to get away for the weekend and discovered Chestnut Street Inn on BedandBreakfast.com, which is only a couple of hours southwest from Chicago . We noticed several 5 star ratings on BedandBreakfast.com so we decided to check it out for ourselves. We met the young and hip Inn Keepers, Jeff and Monika who showed us around the pristine Inn. They were lively hosts and entertained us during our gourmet breakfasts. Jeff and Monika are very knowledgeable in the Arts and Humanities, especially in the culinary arts. They shared some incredible stories about their world travels and past experiences at the Inn. This B&B blows away any stereotypes of Bed and Breakfasts as only being for the middle-aged. The truth is that there is something for anyone who wants to be treated like royalty. Would definitely make the road trip down again and hang out for a weekend.

The room was cozy and comforting. The bed was so comfortable and the best pillows I have ever slept on. I could smell the coffee when I woke up. It tasted even better than it smelled. The attention to detail could be seen in every part of my stay. Monica and Jeff make you feel like you are at home. They are amazing.

We have stayed at a number of bed and breakfasts across the country, but our favorite is the Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield, IL. Jeff and Monika clearly love their work as evidenced by their enthusiasm and close attention to the details. They offer a gourmet breakfast that never disappoints as well as multiple course gourmet dinners that take this b&b experience to a higher level.. The bedding is exquisite with the most luxurious sheets and pillows I have ever slept on. A stay at the Chestnut Street Inn is a relaxing and fun escape to a small town in northern Illinois. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast as the best of the best.

Jeff and Monica went out of their way to make us feel welcome upon our arrival.. The entire Inn is spotless and polished and gives you a very warm feeling. The oatmeal and mint foot massage by the innkeepers was an unexpected pleasure, you had to be there. I can not remember when or where I slept in a bed as comfortable as the Chestnut Inn. The linens and towels were top of the line, very luxurious. There were homemade snacks available all of the time along with wonderful coffee and a full compliment of special teas and soft drinks all included. Monica is an accomplished chef, everything that she touched was fabulous. OK, so maybe there was no foot massage, just a thought. My wife and I get excited about our food and we were not disappointed . Make sure that you experience the dinner the day of your arrival. We made it a point to check in early and take full advantage of all of the comforts and unwind. While driving home I realized how much I needed this getaway, we will be returning.

We held our son's wedding at the Chestnut Street Inn, located in Sheffield, Illinois. Monika and Jeff went out of their way to make it a memorable occassion. It was like having our wedding in our own home, beautiful surroundings, without the work of cleaning and cooking. Our guest from Manhattan and Chicago thought the rooms and food were the best they have ever had. They were amzed at the service and how so many people could all be served dinner at the same time. The appetizers were considered the best ever tasted. The rooms are so pretty and are from another world. You can have breakfast in your room, or in the dining room, and at any time you wish. It is truly a place where you can relax and be served in luxury.

We have expeienced many B&B's over the years and had no knowledge of the Chestnut Street Inn until our friends mentioned this wonderful "little gem." We were looking for a road trip no further from our home than approximately 2-3 hours away. We also became aware that Monika would prepare terrific food for our special dietary needs. Monika and Jeff, the owners, exceeded our expectations! Our 2-night stay was a "Wow" experience. They have special gifts of serving and accomodating their guests. We could see and feel the warmth in our initial conversations. The rooms are immaculate, inviting, and beautiful. This 1857 plantation home was truly extraordinary. Monika's food preparation was meticulous. Jeff's service was given with smiles and even extra requests were gladly accomodated. The Chestnut Street Inn was the perfect location for our wedding reception. Monika and Jeff were awesome. They were complete experienced professionals and because of that we were able to enjoy every minute of our reception without any worries. The food was outstanding and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The Rosewood Suite was beautiful. Would recommend the Inn over and over to anyone looking for an intimate setting with experienced staff and great food.

One of the best we have stayed at. Breakfasts were superb, beds extremely comfortable and Jeff and Monika saw to our every need. Good access to the canal and neat little shops around the area. Hope to return in the future.

The Chestnut Inn is a quiet, delightful getaway! We enjoyed our time, just relaxing and walking around town. The Inn is warm and comfortable. Monika and Jeff are wonderful hosts, who are always there to make your stay perfect. We also enjoyed the Bacon Dinner special night, which was delicious. Breakfast was sumptuous. After hearing the glowing reviews from my parents who stayed here for their 50th anniversary, hubby and I decided to escape for a night and enjoy Chef Monika's bacon-themed dinner. The inn is beautiful and well-maintained, and you won't find friendlier hosts anywhere! Jeff and Monika treated us like we were great friends and made our stay fun and relaxing. The food was scrumptious and the wine Monika recommended was perfect (and I'm picky about wine!). I'd like to go back sometime with another couple or small group and stay for more than one night. Oh - and I dream of those pear pancakes we had for breakfast! Yum!!

Both Monika and Jeff could not have been nicer. They went out of their way to be sure we had a nice time and everything we needed. The Inn is beautifully maintained and it is clear that these two truly love what they do. Monika has a passion for cooking and it is apparent in every single bite. I felt like we were all old friends by the time we left with just the right amount of interactions and privacy. I am already looking forward to going back. This is the perfect spot for a get away that is care-free and relaxed.

We spent a great weekend at this B&B! Jeff was at the door to greet us as soon as we arrived and our room was lovely and comfortable. The best feature of this inn is Monika and Jeff's willingness to accommodate to guests. Monika created a wonderful vegan dinner for me the 2 nights that we stayed even though it was Bacon Weekend! She and Jeff even woke up super early the day we left to give us an energy packed breakfast before our pre-dawn departure back to the city for a 5K. We had a perfect stay here and I'm looking forward to coming back soon.

I wasn't expecting much in a small town B&B, but The Chestnut Street Inn blew my big city heart away! The home had so much great history and character. It was homey and clean. The food was ABSOLUTELY to die for!!!! The owners are so friendly and warm. The beds were amazingly comfortable and the pillows I wanted to take home with me, so I did :) They were available for purchase. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would go back in a heartbeat!

Jeff and Monika get all the details right in the Chestnut Street Inn. The linens, robes, pillows, towels, etc. all set just the right tone. We loved the mix of traditional items with Moroccan touches. And the food! Monika is an amazing chef. We had heavenly meals, both breakfast and dinner. The innkeepers made us feel welcome and pampered.

This B and B is so clean and well kept. Not only are the lodging accommodations outstanding, the food is phenomenal. Monika is a first class chef. My family and I return every year and would recommend this as a MUST for anyone traveling through Central Illinois.

From Jeff's warm welcome to Monika's smile & wave, our stay was the highlight of our week-end. The room was perfectly supplied as Jeff & Monika have anticipated all that we could require Satellite TV, video library and private bathrooms are nice features. The main level features a large entry foyer with Moroccan table, a parlor with diverse library and a fireplace, a private dining room and a large sun porch which serves dual functions as a breakfast room for B&B guests as well as a dining room for restaurant guests. The Chestnut Street Inn is unique in that they are available for "any meal, any time, any day, for any one." Just call Jeff, he'll explain if necessary :) The Inn is decorated with items reflecting Monika & Jeff's travels and interests as well as their heritage.....all providing a fertile backdrop to some wonderful & "shocking" conversation. (a Moroccan market story) As for the culinary treats you have yet to experience..Monika's skill is unique in combining the best available ingredients into the most soul-satisfying food...that tastes splendid!Monika's commitment to honoring her guests by developing at-hand menu's is to be respected. The challenge of preparing a menu developed upon ingredients gathered at their peak on that particular day is Monika's specialty. Be sure to pencil in a coconut-macaroon break - it is a must. I am sad to say we did not enjoy dinner on this trip as we had a full schedule. We did enjoy one quiet evening at the Inn with music, a bottle of wine & the parlor library. Jeff & Monika popped in for a short chat then retired to their quarters, leaving us to a very quiet & romantic evening, pointing at which light switch to turn off on our way up. Having grown up in the area, I am thrilled to hear Jeff & Monika refer other guests to local areas of interest with obvious evidence of personal insight and experience. Come stay with Jeff & Monika & get to know the friends you haven't yet met!

Celebrating my husbands birthday, we spent two nights at the beautiful Chestnut Street Inn. From the time Jeff and Monika greeted us at the door, we felt very welcome. The Inn's atmosphere is so warm and cozy. We stayed in the lovely Green Room suite. If the room is the cake, the frosting on the cake is the delicious gourmet food Monika cooked and Jeff served us, in our room and on the beautiful enclosed porch. Some day we would like to go back, if not to stay, just for a great gourmet meal.

My wife and I went biking on the Hennepin Canal bike trail, and after a couple of hours in 90 degree weather, we were anxious to unwind. We were met by our friendly host who welcomed us into their home and quickly got us a cold refreshment on the backyard patio. This b&b is like no other because the owners actually put our needs ahead of theirs and even mingled with their guests, which gave us the opportunity to really get to know them. Getting to know the innkeepers is very important to us, and most hide in the back until you ring for them. Jeff & Monika were interesting people to talk to and it made us feel more than just customers.

We chose Chestnut Street Inn upon recommendation of friends as a great place to relax and appreciated that dinner is available at the Inn. We found the food, service, room, linens--everything to be exceptional! Our desire was for a clean, comfortable place to get some greatly needed rest. Jeff and Monika are wonderful hosts and we truly relaxed during our three days with them. If you're looking for a little adventure in cuisine, this is the place! They provide delicious meals that wake up your taste buds and also provide for special dietary needs. Jeff was very gracious and thorough in making us feel "at home" when we first arrived. He showed us exactly where things are and how to find he and Monika if we needed them. We appreciated the friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the privacy we were afforded. It's definitely a B & B to recommend!

Chestnut Street Inn was a fantastic find for us. The location was convenient as we were travelling through and wanted a quiet relaxing get away. I strongly recommend booking the dinner if you can. We had a fantastic four course meal at a great price. The food was wonderful for dinner and breakfast and easily tailored to our dietary needs. Jeff and Monika truly understand hospitality and put into practice all the little touches that make a big difference. I wish we lived closer so we could visit more often.

This was our second overnight visit to the Chestnut Street Inn and our fourth dinner visit. We've stayed at B & B's in many states and in several countries. The Chestnut Street Inn is spotlessly clean, quiet and ideally located halfway between Davenport, Iowa and Chicago, Illinois. Great amenities include high quality toiletries , lots of homemade goodies, beverages of all types, Dove chocolates, current magazines, thousands of movies , books and board games. I was in heaven as I enjoyed the large soaker tub, listened to classical music on the CD player and nibbled on dark chocolate-pure decadance! There were three couples in our group and we could have had our meals in the lovely formal dining room but we chose the large enclosed porch where we could enjoy both the sunset and early morning sun. The food is really incredible. If you are the first to book for a particular night you can select your own menu. We had a Mideastern meal of mezes (like tapas) with four starter courses, followed by chicken kabobs and pesto potatoes. Two wonderful desserts (creme brulee and mango sorbet) and chestnut infused coffee ended the meal. Monika and Jeff only cook with locally grown produce, free range chicken, grass-fed beef and the finest spices and oils. Herbs come from their own garden. Monika is a trained chef and she offers cooking classes at both the Inn and other local venues. She's also a favorite guest on local television stations. I highly recommend this wonderful inn!

This was our fourth stay at the Chestnut St. Inn & it has become our favorite getaway spot. Jeff & Monika always make us feel more like family than just paying guests. The food & hospitality are the best we have ever had at any B&B. The great thing about staying there is that you can have complete privacy or you can interact with your hosts and other guests as you choose. If you have special requests, they will always do their best to accommodate you. We will be back to stay soon.

We have stayed in many B&Bs across the country, and this one is our favorite. We have stayed here 4 times now and we love everything about it. Jeff and Monica are just the best innkeepers in the country. They make us feel like valued friends, not customers. The food is just the best we've ever had anywhere. And the prices are very good too. My husband and I took advantage of a chance to stay at the Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield, Il. for two days. We had no idea what we were about to encounter. The house had history and character. Our room was very comfortable and the linens were of 5-Star quality. The pillows were so comfortable, I bought one before I left. If you aren't satisfied with your pillow and want a good night sleep, you need to check these out! Jeff & Chef Monika are the dynamic dual when it comes to hospitality and awesome food. They are very generous with her homemade pastries if you need a snack to get you through the day along with soda in the fridge and hot coffee or tea at your disposal. They have a relaxing sitting room for everyone to enjoy if you want and a patio with seating if you want to enjoy the outdoors. Breakfast was not only healthy but deliicious too. We had one of their evening meals that Chef Monika prepared. We felt we were at a high end restaurant in a big city without the noise, traffic and large Check at the end. If you're looking to de-stress, relax, eat delicious food and be around friendly uplifting people, then the Chestnut street Inn is the place to go.

We came to the Sheffield area to check out the Hennepin Canal and Trails and really didn't know what to expect. We decided to stay at the Chestnut Street Inn and were pleasantly surprised to find a really nice bed and breakfast. My husband and I stayed in the Blue Room and my sister and brother in-law stayed in the Federal Room. Both rooms were beautifully decorated, had it's own bathroom, and were very comfortable. The first floor living room was comfortable and inviting and we spent time relaxing and talking with other Inn guests there. We also decided to eat dinner at the Inn. Monika prepared a shrimp appetizer, salad with candied pecans, filet mignon, roast fingerling potatoes, and tiramasu or sherbet for dessert. We enjoyed every bite. Innkeepers, Monika and Jeff, explained to us how they use local, organic food for the meals they prepare. Jeff and Monika were attentive, pleasant and interesting. We would definitely return.

We stayed two nights and it was fantastic. Jeff and Monica make you feel right at home by giving you a grand tour and showing you where everything is in the kitchen along with the daily snack. They respect your privacy when you want it and they always cater to your needs. The food is amazing and unique. The dinner Monica made was similar to a 5 star restaurant for half of the price. Heads up that the pillows are very firm and in our opinion, very uncomfortable. If you like soft, cushy pillows, bring your own. We will definitely be going back!

When you first walk through the front door at Chestnut Street Inn you immediately feel at home. Now it may not look like your actual home, but it feels that way because of the warm welcome you receive from the Innkeepers, Monika and Jeff. My husband and I came Sheffield, Il for a family reunion of sorts, and we left with so much more. It is apparent that Monika and Jeff have poured their love, sweat and tears into the Inn. A beautiful home, steeped in local history has been infused with the creativity of this very talented couple. They graciously shared with us how they came to locate the Inn they planned and aspired to run and how they transplanted to Sheffield from southern California. We also learned that Monika, who obtained her Master's Degree in cultural anthropology, used her experience to cultivate her passion as a chef and infuse a Mediterranean flare within the traditional walls of this historical gem. Certified as culinary professional Monika, shared her talent and special interest in locally sourced, quality ingredients with her guests the evening of our stay. We are from the Washington, DC area and have had many quality meals, but the dining experience Monika provided to us rivaled many of our top meals at home. We spent a comfortable evening in the Rosewood Suite and awoke to a fabulous breakfast. Monika was even able to accomodate our gluten and dairy sensitivity and was well versed in the challenges this can present. We feel very fortunate to have had such a memorable experience and look forward to returning to Chestnut Street Inn in the future.

Choosing to have Our Wedding at the Chestnut Street Inn was the best decision we ever made. The owners Jeff and Monika were very accommodating with all of our needs and wants. We have stayed in many B&Bs and this is an absolute stand out! Jeff and Monika are welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable hosts who are connected to the area and go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The Chestnut Street Inn rooms are all tastefully decorated with details that invite relaxing and lingering. The bed was fantastic as were the high end linens. The Inn is immaculate and so comfortable that you won't want to leave. In fact, we liked it so much that we cut short a side trip to Chicago to return to their Inn! Chef Monika has a passion for cooking and uses fresh, local ingredients. She puts a creative twist on classics and Mediterranean fare and has a great knack for interesting flavor combinations. One of our daughters has dietary restrictions and Monika happily adapted her dishes with zero loss of flavor. We are a family that appreciates excellent food and couldn't get enough of Chef Monika's cuisine and Jeff's entertaining commentary. Our schedule was unpredictable and Jeff and Monika were always accommodating. In short, it felt like visiting friends. We stayed in the rosewood suite. Our room was beautiful and made us feel very relaxed. We loved our food at the inn .Monika is a very good chef and both her and her husband Jeff made us feel right at home. They were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We would definitely go back again.

Had a fantastic time! Jeff and Monika are acceptional and very attentive innkeepers. They were very helpful and where there whenever we needed something. We did the Spa Package, which was amazing! The Spa that they have a contract with did a very nice job! Monika's food was brilliant. We recommend eating it as much as possible!!!! :)

The Chestnut Street Inn is a wonderful place to stay. Jeff and Monika are a delight to be around and the food itself is an experience you can’t afford to miss. The Blue room is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the company of your significant other. My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights here and although there were many things to do in the area we really enjoyed coming back to the INN and watching a movie while drinking a pot of one of the many loose leaf teas available. The Moroccan Mint tea was our favorite especially when you are washing down one of Monika’s delicious Macaroons. If you are in the area or just looking to get away the Chestnut Street Inn is a great place to stay.

We booked all four rooms for a family surprise party and reunion. We also booked the entire dining room for the party. Food was great, hospitality was great, and a good time was had by all. Monika and Jeff did all they could to keep the upstairs room cool in a very old home in record heat. We will be back this fall when the weather is cooler!

B & B's always seemed stuffy, and boringly the same types of food served for breakfast. That will never be the case with Chestnut. Superior food, I never miss reserving a dinner when there. Being left to relax in the living area is easy to do, since they have their own living area, they are not parked in the B & B area, so I am often reclined, reading & enjoying. It would be hard to make this place better and Monika and Jeff were great. It was also easy to coordinate fun stuff within just a short drive from the little town of Sheffield: the Witness tree, great walk along Hennepin canal, fun live theater in Princeton. Great time.

We had an excellent time at the Chestnut Street Inn! We have been on a hunt for a romantic getaway to a bed and breakfast and this place meet all we were looking for and beyond! Jeff and Monika are very welcoming and accomadating! We had an outstanding dinner by Chef Monika that you have to make a special trip just for all the mouth watering dishes she prepares! Nice dining setting where my husband and I sat at our own table which I really admire about this place. The room we stayed in we spotless and very comfortable and private. Perfect for a nice little romantic getaway. The coconut macaroons are very fabulous just a little snack you could have anytime of the day along with several beverages. The breakfast was top notch which we enjoyed in our private dining room that was included in our room! We got a chance to tour the other rooms and they were just as wonderful. Every part about the stay just kept getting better and we were never disappointed until we had to leave....but we will definately be back! There are a few wineries in the area that are well worth the stop if you are looking for something to do while you are in the area staying here. Thanks so much Jeff and Monika!

The Chestnut Street Inn is a real treasure! We had read about it and it's restaurant in Midwest Living Magazine. Having grown up in the area, we were anxious to visit. The Inn is a stately historical home that has been kept in excellent condition. We were greeted by Jeff who had a big smile and great sense of humor. We received the grand tour after he helped us settle in. Our room was larger than we expected and the bed was very comfortable. We travel a lot and a good bed is not always there for us. The Inn is decorated with artifacts they have gathered in their world travels. These precipitate questions and both Monika and Jeff are pleased to discuss them. It was good to have the hosts interact with their guests. Chef Monika specializes in Mediterranean cooking. We really enjoyed talking to her about food and cooking. Unfortunately we could not have dinner there that evening but were surprised and delighted at the Spanish Tortilla they made for our breakfast after our food discussions the night before. This was a welcome change from the usual breakfasts we get at other B&Bs. We will certainly return to stay since the Inn is close to our family. We look forward to enjoying one of Monika's dinners soon. Their location in Sheffield off of Interstate 80 makes it a very convenient place to get to. Larry & Billie

Chestnut Street Inn could be found in the most in the interesting historical tourist area of the United States but it wasn't. I found it in Sheffield, Illinois a community of less then 1000 that I visited. It was the town that you would pass through going to some large and important city in the mid-west or the north-east but you stopped to visit on old friend from school days and because you didn't want to impose on the hospitality of the friend, you stopped at the Chestnut Inn and found yourself in an era of luxury and warmth with innkeepers that made you feel like the most important person in the world.

We stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn on our way to the East Coast from Minnesota and on the return trip - and both were good experiences. The Inn is very comfortable, the food is excellent and the hosts are great! We've stayed there so many times it's become our "home away from home".

Just returned from spending the weekend at The Chestnut Inn. Quite a wonderful experience. Jeff and Monica, the owners, have created a restful haven where you would least expect to find it. We drove from Brighton Michigan to take advantage of the nice Christmas gift that I was given and not having spent anytime in B&B's I was quite surprised. The accommodations were very inviting and well appointed. Enjoyed staying in the federal room which is at the front of the top floor overlooking the street with windows on 3 sides. Request this room if you can get it. Enjoyed 2 breakfasts and had some of the best pancakes ever. Jeff was quite priud of himself as he filled in quite admirably for Monica and prepared all the meals including a nice roasted pepper soup accompanied by to die for scones and a butter lettuce salad. The filet mignon was also well prepared and for desert - 2 creme brulees - my favorite desert. These owners will go out of the way to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. Enjoyed sampling some of the product from the local farms. Would high recommend this gem to anyone looking for a quiet escape, who enjoys having a glass of wine or having breakfast on the patio overlooking a well maintained garden. An experience to remember. Chestnut Street Inn is amongst the best B&Bs we have stayed at.

It's always fun to see and talk to Jeff and Monika. The dinner and breakfast were delicious, Monika thinks of some new twist to the menu each time. We love the Rosewood Suite for its comfortable luxury.

Monika and Jeff's home is simply lovely, very clean and the bed linens are heavenly. Breakfast was a gourmet delight served in a small porch off our room. Coffee was excellent...chestnut flavored, of course. Just one of the many small details that these inn keepers see to ! Dinner was the highlight of our stay, beating out even the afternoon nap on side porch off the living room !

What a treasure, nestled in farm country but an easy drive from Chicago.!This is a destination for anyone who wants a very comfortable room in a big cozy house on a very spacious piece of property on a very quiet street in a small Illinois town. Innkeeper Jeff is vivacious and so accommodating for anything you might need, and Monika is a gourmet chef. Her scrumptious dinners draw folks from far and wide. Breakfast for the guests is creative, delicious, and beautifully presented.

We went here for my wife's birthday, and everything was top notch, especially the food. Very welcoming and we are looking to make this a regular destination.

My husband surprised me with a weekend away and picked Chestnut Street Inn for the gluten free food. I was very happy with everything about the Inn. The food was outstanding! Monika and Jeff are very friendly and on top of requests before you even ask! I will be going back again!!!

Arrived on a dreary day to a warm welcome from the innkeepers and the smell of soup simmering for that night's dinner. Mmmm. We decided to go for a walk before we were tempted to storm the kitchen to steal the soup. When we got back it now smelled like fresh baked bread. This is like staying with Grandma - if your Grandma lives in a lovely old mansion with all mod-cons.. The Chestnut St. Inn is great. Book a room and dinner, you won't be disappointed.

Our room was great, very quaint yet had all the amenities you could possibly need. The innkeepers Monika and Jeff we very attentive to our needs. Being a vegetarian my meals are sometimes a second thought to the other meat eater guests. But not here, my meal was fantastic. Thanks Monika and Jeff, we'll be back.

It is a well kept secret. We enjoyed ourselves totally and plan to return again until we have experience each of the rooms. We have also passed the word to our friends and hopefully they will have an opportunity to experience a piece of serenity.

We enjoyed a very comfortable eveneing at the "Chestnut Street Inn'' in Sheffield, IL. Our rooms were very comfortable. The bedrooms were nicely appointed with tasteful decoration/ fabrics & furnishings. We savored a sumptious gourmet breakfast in the morning delivered at the time we had requested. The hosts/ innkeepers were gracious & very cordial during our stay. They met all of our expectations! We will definately be planning a stay at their Inn again in the future. (we were traveling from Iowa & Colorado)

Having attended Le Cordon Bleu School of Culinary Arts myself, lived in Germany, England and Italy for 10 years and traveled Europe extensively, The Chestnut Inn, with Jeff and Monika as hosts, is a superb experience and a great value for money. The food is excellent. Monika loves her "job" as chef and hostess and Jeff is a most gregarious, affable host and quite a local historian for their gorgeous, delightfully decorated 1870's style home as well. It is most obvious that the little town of 900, where The Chestnut Inn is situated just off Interstate 80, must have something going for it when the Sudakov's can draw as many as 40 people for dinner (reservations only). I will definitely return to sample another delightful, delicious dinner from Monika's kitchen. I even bought her cookbook with some excellent recipes within.

Just fantastic...That's what it was. So relaxing and the food was to die for. I haven't slept that good in a long time...My wife and I stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield Illinois on the 16th. and 17th. of March 2012..and it was everything we could have hoped it to be. We just stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn for two nights. We also had a private cooking class with Monika. It was great! We learned lots of cooking tips, had a delicious meal of the foods we made, and great company of Monika and Jeff for the meal. We have stayed here MANY times and enjoy it more and more each time.

We had heard wonderful reviews of Chestnut Street's dinners from some of our family friends and were anxious to give it a try. A 30th birthday celebration was just the excuse we needed! After selecting our preferred menu, we booked a reservation and our mouths watered for weeks in anticipation! I enjoyed the appetizer and soup the best, my dad, who doesn't like vinegars (which weren't indicated on the menu) loved the rolls and dessert, but politely ate most of the rest of the dinner. The most disappointing was the somewhat overcooked fish with overly sweet maple sauce. That being said, we really enjoyed visiting with Monika and Jeff and had a lovely stay in the Green Room. Very relaxing stay!

From the moment we stepped into the unique entry and were greeted by our attentive hosts, we knew we found a gem to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We've stayed in many B& Bs in California. The Chestnut Street Inn is top notch and the only B& B where we had the option of having dinner -let alone a 4 course feast lovingly home cooked with the freshest ingredients. Breakfast was a culinary delight also. The Rosewood Suite sparkled.

We travel only twenty minutes to find ourselves in another land of wonderment. We frequent the inn for the friendship, fellowship and feast that awaits. We are never disappointed. Having just celebrated our second Valentines with Jeff and Monika we couldn't be happier. The dining and conversation they intertwine with their delicacies are second to none in this area.

The food is outstanding, the host and hostess, Monika and Jeff, phenomenal, pleasant, warm. When we're there, we feel as if we come home, only better. There is absolutely nothing lacking in our cozy bedroom either (we generally stay in the Federal Room). They even think of dark chocolates to keep us company. Last time (Valentine's Day weekend), Harry and I fell asleep on the couch, in front of a cozy, crackling fire, with soft music in the background. Jeff covered us with a blanket, asking Monika if maybe he should just leave us there and not disturb us although they were about to go to bed. As it happened, with the music off we woke up, to switch beds.

The Rosewood room has a working fireplace, and a separate small dining area attached to the room. The food is delicious.

We spent the night at the Chestnut Inn on recommendations. It is well worth it. Jeff & Monika are the most wonderful hosts. From the time we checked in to the time we left we were treated as wonderful friends. The rooms are very comfortable. The bedsheets are amazing. Monika is a fantastic chef. We stayed in the Rosewood Suite and it was lovely. There is a working fireplace, a private dining area, private bath and a very comfortable king size bed. We would definitely stay in this room again. We had dinner in the dining room with other guests and it was fine dining at its best. We had breakfast in our private dining room and it was also wonderful. We would highly recommend this B&B for a night or weekend away.

Rooms are clean, beautiful and beds are comfortable. The inside decor of the house brings you back to a late 1800 setting. Comfortable and cosy in every way. This Bed & Breakfast gives and opportunity to relax and enjoy a quiet time. The hosts are very friendly and make you feel like part of the family. You must try the evening meals they are outstanding!!!

My wife and I stayed for three days as our annual getaway, and were excited b/c they were willing to offer gluten free dinners, which allowed us not to worry about bringing food w/us. The room was beautiful, and quiet, and the house was just gorgeous!! We had a great time talking w/ the innkeepers, and got the opportunity to relax and unplug!! My husband and I stayed at the Chestnut Inn during our Christmas visit with family and friends. The Inn provided a relaxing retreat at the end of the day. The breakfasts (different each morning) were great. Jeff and Monika are excellent hosts and make their guest feel right at home.

Our first stay at the Chestnut Street Inn was back in April 2008. We had such a marvelous time that we swore that we would return again sometime in the future. We decided to go ahead and make plans to return in November of this year. We spent 3 nights during our stay in November. We spent 1 night in the Blue Room and 2 nights in the Rosewood Suite. Monika is an amazing Chef so we ate all of our breakfasts and dinners at the Inn. We had such an wonderful experience during our first stay that we didn't think that it could be possible for the second stay to be even better than the first. This second stay was even better. All of Monika's meals are nothing short of delicious! I have Gluten and MSG intolerances and Monika is great when it comes to dealing with different food issues. Monika and Jeff are very nice and gracious Innkeepers. They go above and beyond in everything that they do for their guests and it shows. The Christmas decorations were up during this stay and it was so nice being able to enjoy in the festivities at the Inn. We really wish that we lived closer because we would stay more often if we didn't have to drive so far. We have stayed at many places during our travels and we have to say that this is one of our absolute favorites. We highly recommend it. There is just no better bnb than Chestnut Street Inn. We've stayed in the Rosewood Suite many times, and it's fabulous every time, but what Monika & Jeff have done with the dining experience is just outstanding! The breakfast is completely yummy, but the dinners are phenomenal. You absolutely have to have dinner with them - it's a MUST!! We had just come through a stressful 2 months dealing with a family crisis and needed a getaway that would allow us to do absolutely nothing. The first place that we thought of was the Chestnut Inn in Sheffield. We had been there last year and appreciated the slow pace atmosphere of the community and the high quality of accommodations and food that we found there. It was refreshing to know that Monika and Jeff had remembered us from our first visit. It was like coming to visit relatives. We had the freedom to be alone or to visit with them. They are very genuine people who are very detail oriented in their service to their guests.

Our stay was short as we were passing through to Chicago. We go in late and had to leave early. What a shame. This place is so cool and Monica and Jeff are the perfect Innkeepers.We got in too late for dinner but the place was packed so you know we missed an excellent meal. We found that out the next morning when breakfast came. It was fabulous.Highly recomended. The next time the Chestnut will be our destination and not just a place us weary travelers to sleep. We look forward to returning.

We brought friends to stay with us at the Chestnut Street Inn, and we had really built up the friendliness of Monika and Jeff, the fineness of the inn, and the fabulous food. Everything met our expectations and we were all delighted with our stay.

This was one of the bed B%B's we've ever stayed at! Delicious food and every attention to detail was made. Jeff and Monica were fun and attentive hosts!

We hadn't realized that such an amazing inn was located in the little rural village of Sheffield. The Chestnut Street Inn is a gem of a B&b. It is located on a quiet, tree-lined street with convenient parking right in front. From the moment we stepped through the door and were greeted by the aroma of freshly baked bread we felt at home and at ease. Jeff and Monika, the innkeepers, are congenial, interesting and enthusiastic hosts who are dedicated to making your visit very special. As their website includes ample photos of the inn and the monthly menu list I won't try to describe the decor or the individual dishes that Monika prepares. Suffice it to say that the rooms (and beds) are comfy, the plumbing and furnace work just fine, and the common areas are well-decorated, comfortable, and more than conducive to relaxing and mingling with your fellow guests. A big plus was having dinner available in the evening after a day of sightseeing. No need to go away from the inn seeking a restaurant. Our meal was Moroccan themed (Monika's specialty) and everything was delicious. The high point of the meal, for me, was the creme brulee which was the best I've ever eaten. The inn also serves the best coffee we have ever had at a B&B. There is a wine list with a limited selection of reasonably priced wines. If you would like to bring your own wine it is easy to check their website to see what is being served for dinner so you can make an appropriate pairing. There is a nominal corkage fee of $5. We had a very pleasant stay at reasonable rates and look forward to a return visit.

My siblings and I stayed in the 4 rooms at Chestnut Inn and had a great time. We had dinner there (as well as breakfast, of course) and the food is delicious and presented beautifully. Monika also accommodated a gluten free diet for 2 of us -- even in the snacks she made! The rooms are also beautiful, comfortable and immaculate. A HUGE thank you to Monika and Jeff for making our weekend so special.

You owe it to yourself to go and stay because if you do you will not beable to stay away, I know you will be back again. We had an exceptional time! Monika and Jeff are wonderful hosts and served a delightful gourmet meal Saturday evening. The Green Room Suite provded us with some extra space and privacy. Jeff and Monika, the Innkeepers, have created a rural oasis at their beautiful Victorian mansion that is unparalleled. This charming building opened its arms to us, as did our amazing hosts. Inside, I marveled at (and was envious of!) this home. It has been restored to its original grandeur and the spirit of the surroundings settles on you instantly. You feel safe, content and WELCOME. Our rooms were impeccably outfitted to meet every need. The bed linens were a cocoon and I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning! But when the aroma from Monika's kitchen hit my senses, I was up and ready to see what culinary adventure awaited. At each meal, we dined in the beautiful and bright Sun Room. The service is above and beyond what you expect at a B&B. Every need was met, every request was granted with a smile. The neatness and cleanliness of the Inn is beyond reproach. Nothing was out of place; everything sparkled. The antiques and other rare finds that are scattered tastefully throughout the Inn were interesting and fun (the daguerreotype in our sitting room was especially entertaining!). We spent ample time in the community rooms and outdoors on the patio, enjoying the adorable garden. If your goal is total relaxation, the innkeepers have achieved it and then some. You will not be disappointed. The food at the Inn is beyond amazing. Truly 5+ stars...imaginative, creative, succulent gourmet dishes, paired with perfect wines and blissful desserts. The price of the stay, the meals and the cooking class we took were bargains for the luxury of the accommodations, the lushness of the meals and hospitality we experienced. My friend and I were so impressed that we intend to make this an annual trek to unwind from the cares of the world...and we now consider Jeff and Monika to be our friends. I had the good fortune to stay at the Chestnut Street Inn this week for a mid-week girlfriends getaway. There are not enough superlatives to describe this charming Inn. The home is beautiful in a quiet country setting. The rooms are decorated with lovely antiques and include all the creature comforts - the linens are amazing; warm, cozy bathrobes.... The meals created lovingly by Monika are not to be missed. Make sure you include dinner with your stay...better yet, take a cooking class with Monika. It was great fun and oh, so delicious - and you get to enjoy the fruits of your "labor" and earn a few bragging rights too! Monika and Jeff are wonderful hosts who clearly know how to pamper their guests. We are already making plans to make this an annual tradition. But I have a feeling I'll be back much sooner than that!

My husband and I had the Rosewood Suite. It was so comfortable. We did not use the fireplace as it was to warm yet but it would have been awesome to have it going. We loved the private dining room although it would have been fun to eat with the other guests and Jeff and Monika. The service outstanding, the food scrumptious. This was my wife Nan and my first B&B experience, and based on it---we will visit many others. Just a perfect experience. Monika and Jeff were the most charming and gracious hosts and provided us with such a warm and welcoming home. The room was immaculate and beautiful, the breakfast was gourmet, and the service perfect! They think of everything, including snacks in the room, and late-nite cake for a muncher like me. Satellite TV with all the movies, toilet paper like we use in our home, a library, everything to make your stay wonderful. Don't try to get this place when my class has it's next reunion---we plan to book all 4 rooms early! Come and see these people and see why everyone rates this place as 'outstanding'!

Can't say enough about our stay at the Chestnut Street Inn. We really wanted a weekend away to relax and this fit the bill. The service was friendly and prompt, the room was cozy (fireplace lit for us every night) and clean and the food was superb. We were particularly pleased that Chef Monika used locally sourced meat and produce when possible. We'll be back soon. About the town...Sheffield is sleepy and quiet, perfect for doing nothing...although their new antique store, Mary Ann-tiques is worth a drop-in.

Wonderful evening; chocolate theme dinner. Interesting mix of customers with common goal of enjoying Chef Monika's creations. Rooms are very clean and comfortable with a classic Antebellum feel. Breakfast was stress free fun. A treat we could never make at home. Monika & Jeff are wonderful innkeepers.

My husband treated me to a wonderful weekend for our 25th anniversary with an overnite stay at the beautiful Chestnut Street Inn. The meal we enjoyed was the Chocolate Extravaganza with every course having a touch of chocolate incoporated into the dish, which was appropritate as on our first day he arrived with flowers and chocolate and later told me he knew one or the other would spark my interest. We are both chocolate lovers so this was a real treat to be treated a chocolate-themed dinner and in such a unique and delicious presentation. Our room was lovely and the entire Inn is beautifully decorated and maintained. Monika and Jeff were such gracious hosts and we feel we made 2 new friends that we will look forward to seeing again and again.

Every time we visit the Chestnut Street Inn, we are bowled over by the hospitality and gourmet food. This visit was no exception, and it was all the more enjoyable because we were joined by a dear friend. With four beautiful rooms in this historical property, this B&B is a great place to plan reunions and rendezvous with friends. My husband has enjoyed playing at the two conveniently located golf courses, and I’ve enjoyed days of beauty at Sophisticuts Salon & Spa. The innkeepers at Chestnut Street Inn go out of their way to plan fun and relaxing activities for guests, but the real story about this inn is the food. Dinner the first night was a Moroccan feast, which included Roasted Red Pepper Soup, Zucchini Chips, Roasted Beet, Orange and Goat Cheese Salad, Tagine of Beef with Sweet Potatoes, Cinnamon and Orange Blossom Crème Brulee. Breakfast the next morning was made to order for me since I am on a diet, and included fluffy eggs scrambled in truffle oil with broccoli and fresh local fruits. Chef Monika is the author of two cookbooks, and an award-winning gluten-free, vegetarian, or dietary-specific gourmet food magician. The second night’s dinner was Indian-inspired with Spicy Bean Soup, Cucumber Raita, Tomato and Scallion Salad, Chicken Curry with Rice, Strawberry and Ginger Sorbet. Dinner is only $30/person with huge portions, and the quality of the courses and menu are what one would expect to easily pay $100+/person for in any metro area. The hospitality is top-notch, rooms so well-appointed, beds blissful, and the cuisine is an Epicurean’s dream on Chestnut Street!

My husband and I enjoyed the Chestnut Street Inn so much. It was the perfect way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Monika and Jeff were warm and friendly inkeepers who took care of our every need. The food and service were outstanding so were really did sit back and enjoy!

My closest friend and I share a birthday month and I had heard great talk of the Chestnut Street Inn, so we decided to get all the rooms and invite friends to stay!! Jeff and Monika were most welcoming!! We all enjoyed our stay so much. The food was fantastic and we had two of the pickiest eaters and they were so accomidating! Breakfast was fantastic...beds were comfy,,,,we had so many laughs and made great memories!! I would recommend this bed n breakfast to anyone!!! Absolutely perfect for us!!!! We went to the Inn for a quick birthday and anniversary get away. It felt like home away from home . Jeff and Monika are so warm and friendly. They showed us around and to our room , which was beautiful and very comfortable. It was Julia Child weekend , the food was incredible, the service amazing. Very entertaining evening since Jeff and Monika's backgrounds are in theater , we were treated to an impresonation of Ms. Julia and serenaded as well. We will definately go back.

Our overnight stay at the Chestnut Inn was exceptional in every way. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. The service was friendly and accommodating while the food was superb! We would like to return to what we would consider the best bed and breakfast in the Midwest.

We have stayed several times at the Chestnut Inn and it is our favorite BB. We love the peaceful small town setting and once your in the house you've entered paradise. Jeff and Monica are very personable and their home is outstanding with all the comforts you would hope for. They take great pride in their home and it shows. This was our first stay at a bed & breakfast, and I fear we have already experienced the best. Beautiful home, warm and efficient owners, FANTASTIC food. We relished the 4 course dinner and would visit again just for the meals. The crab bisque soup was superb! It was a 100 degree day during our visit, and being too hot to go outside in the evening to enjoy the lovely yard and patio was the only downside.

This was my first experience staying at a B&B and I couldn't have been more impressed! Monika's cooking is so good, that I don't believe in letting a single drop go to waste! Jeff and Monika, thank you so much for your hospitality! I look forward to my next stay!

My husband and I enjoyed a get-away weekend stay at the Chestnut Inn the first weekend of April. Monika and Jeff were incredibly personable and accommodating and the food was phenomenal! We stayed in the master suite, enjoying our own dining room for lazy breakfast in our p.j.'s and a soak in the deep, original tub. Lovely as the rooms, both public and private were, it is the amazing food and the friendly conversation with Jeff and Monika which will definitely bring us back again and recommend the inn to others!

Spending a night at the Chestnut Inn in Sheffield exceeded my expectations across the board. Jeff and Monika made us feel like long lost friends. The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. The town is peaceful. The stay was delightful even before we started eating, but dinner was probably one of the best meals I have eaten. Each dish was perfectly prepared, perfectly presented, and happily consumed. This was an experience I hope to repeat on a regular basis.

Although we've had dinner at the Chestnut Street Inn numerous times (we LOVE Chef Monika's cooking!!!), we had never booked a room and stayed the night since we live nearby in the Quad Cities...but since we decided to celebrate my birthday by signing up for the Gourmet Dinner with Wine Pairings for each of the 7 courses, we decided to book a room, enjoy the wine and food, and spend the night. Not only were the Gourmet Dinner and Wine Pairing perfection (we've never had a better meal...EVER!!!), so were the beautiful B&B and our clean and comfortable room (Rosewood suite). The decor was lovely, the room was spotless, the sheets had an amazing thread count and were ironed and crisp. We had our own restroom and private dining area with original tiles and tub. Innkeepers Jeff and Monika are so friendly, welcoming and pay attention to details without being intrusive...and Monica is the BEST CHEF EVER! We had such a wonderful stay that we decided to bring the entire family together there at the Chestnut Street Inn for our holiday get-together! My mom and I spent a night at the Chestnut Street Inn after visiting Hornbaker Gardens and Princeton. It is beautiful house with awesome hosts. The beds were so comfortable, we had to ask what kind they are! Breakfast the next morning was delicious. It was also nice getting to visit with Monika and Jeff. I highly recommend this inn.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn. What a great experience. The house and grounds were very well kept and inviting. We were greeted immediately at the door and made at ease by the innkeepers, Jeff and Monika. They took us on a tour of their wonderful house, and explained that everything was available to their guests at any time. The house is large, clean and comfortable. The room was very well decorated and also very comfortable. We regretted that we did not arrive in time for dinner, but woke to a hearty and delicious breakfast prepared for us in the morning. We enjoyed our discussions with both Jeff and Monika, and found them to be genuinely fun and engaging. The food is awesome. This B&B is great for both travelers and weekend get-awayers. Highly recommended.

WOW! - We were looking for a place to celbrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I was thinking glitzy hotel in downtown Chicago with dinner in one of the trendy hot spots. My wife had a better idea, with a slower pace outing a couple of hours from Chicago. What a difference! This is a mansion from the mid-1800s which has been updated and the upstairs carved into 4 bedrooms (each with its own bathroom), including the Rosewood suite which has a private dining room - the ultimate en suite!! We had our anniversary dinner in our suite, which was a 6 course gormet dinner with imaginative offerings and wine pairings. The dinner was every bit as satisfying culinariarly as if we judges on the Iron Chef. Chef Monika is certainly a flavorful genious, and husband Jeff adds an enthusiastic flair to the proceedings! The bed in the Rosewood suite was luxurious, and we were asked to name our preferred time for breakfast (which we also had en suite!) for the morning! With hiking and biking trails nearby, a sleepy town, and an outstanding culinary experience - this will be a place we come back to. Please don't tell anyone, or we'll have trouble booking in the future! Oooops!

We've stayed at B&B's all over the planet--France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the U.S. The Chestnut Street Inn is the absolute BEST! On a five-point scale, we'd give it a 10! Wonderful food; beautiful decor; comfort, comfort, comfort; Monika and Jeff are beyond gracious; everything is immaculately clean; and beautiful gardens. On a personal note, very few B&B's are able or willing to accommodate gluten intolerant guests; Monika not only provides safe, delicious, gluten-free meals, she wrote the book on it. Her cookbook, "Gluten-free Entertaining for Everyone," is a gem. And did I mention the oh, so comfortable bed, with the 9,000 thread count sheets? I'm probably exaggering a little on the thread count, but the sheets are in a category of their own, like everything else at the Chestnut Hill Inn!

We were surprised when we discovered this gem in the midst of rural Illinois and would highly recommend The Chestnut Inn to everyone. The dining experience alone was worth the visit and the overnight accommodations just added to the wonderful time we had during our first stay at the Inn. Monika and Jeff are the most gracious of hosts and we look forward to our future visits.

We came after getting married and loved the atmosphere and hospitality. The food was excellent, they were very entertaining, and had a lot of touristry tips that will really help our next trip out a ton. There are a lot of places in the back also to take photographs, and they were very helpful in helping us take pictures too. This is a great B&B!

We spent two night in the Rosewood suite celebrating our 30th anniversary. We included the four course dinner each evening. The home is beautiful in its decor. We loved our room with its own bath and enjoyed breakfast each morning in our private attached dining room. I truly can not do justice in explaining the meals we were served. Jeff and Monika do an outstanding job in presentation and preparation of each plate. I would recommend this B&B to anyone needing a quiet, relaxing retreat with a fun Mediterranean twist for their meals.

The Inn is lovely, Monica and Jeff are so much fun and the food is worth the drive from Chicago alone. Monica has to be one of the best chefs in Illinois. We visit them every year without fail.

Situated in the quiet country town of Sheffield IL, the Chestnut St. Inn is a delight. We stayed there recently for a reunion with friends. The inn is nicely decorated with the 4 bedrooms comfortably furnished with all modern facilities. There is a pretty garden and the patio is the perfect spot for relaxing on a summer night. Service is warm and attentive without being intrusive. Add Monika's delicious cooking and you won't want to leave.

This was our first B&B stay. We have always avoided B&B's. I can truly say this B&B was outstanding. Monika & Jeff treated us like family. They did everything to make our stay great. The room was very comfortable and the decor was good. We had the Federal Room. The food was excellent. Monika is a great chef and Jeff is a great host. We were sorry to see our stay end.
