The Rosewood room has a working fireplace, and a separate small dining area attached to the room. The food is delicious.

We spent the night at the Chestnut Inn on recommendations. It is well worth it. Jeff & Monika are the most wonderful hosts. From the time we checked in to the time we left we were treated as wonderful friends. The rooms are very comfortable. The bedsheets are amazing. Monika is a fantastic chef. We stayed in the Rosewood Suite and it was lovely. There is a working fireplace, a private dining area, private bath and a very comfortable king size bed. We would definitely stay in this room again. We had dinner in the dining room with other guests and it was fine dining at its best. We had breakfast in our private dining room and it was also wonderful. We would highly recommend this B&B for a night or weekend away.

Rooms are clean, beautiful and beds are comfortable. The inside decor of the house brings you back to a late 1800 setting. Comfortable and cosy in every way. This Bed & Breakfast gives and opportunity to relax and enjoy a quiet time. The hosts are very friendly and make you feel like part of the family. You must try the evening meals they are outstanding!!!

My wife and I stayed for three days as our annual getaway, and were excited b/c they were willing to offer gluten free dinners, which allowed us not to worry about bringing food w/us. The room was beautiful, and quiet, and the house was just gorgeous!! We had a great time talking w/ the innkeepers, and got the opportunity to relax and unplug!! Overall, a great opportunity to unwind, recharge and enjoy great food and company. I highly recommend Chestnut Street Inn.

My husband and I stayed at the Chestnut Inn during our Christmas visit with family and friends. The Inn provided a relaxing retreat at the end of the day. The breakfasts (different each morning) were great. Jeff and Monika are excellent hosts and make their guest feel right at home.

Our first stay at the Chestnut Street Inn was back in April 2008. We had such a marvelous time that we swore that we would return again sometime in the future. We decided to go ahead and make plans to return in November of this year. We spent 3 nights during our stay in November. We spent 1 night in the Blue Room and 2 nights in the Rosewood Suite. Monika is an amazing Chef so we ate all of our breakfasts and dinners at the Inn. We had such an wonderful experience during our first stay that we didn't think that it could be possible for the second stay to be even better than the first. This second stay was even better. All of Monika's meals are nothing short of delicious! I have Gluten and MSG intolerances and Monika is great when it comes to dealing with different food issues. Monika and Jeff are very nice and gracious Innkeepers. They go above and beyond in everything that they do for their guests and it shows. The Christmas decorations were up during this stay and it was so nice being able to enjoy in the festivities at the Inn. We really wish that we lived closer because we would stay more often if we didn't have to drive so far. We have stayed at many places during our travels and we have to say that this is one of our absolute favorites. We highly recommend it. The Chestnut Street Inn is a triple threat-great accommodations, great food and fabulous Innkeepers. You just can't go wrong by staying at this Inn. Hopefully we can return again sometime soon. I rarely speak in hyperbole. Monica and Jeff do a fabulous job at making you comfortable regardless of your reason for travel. I took my wife with me recently. She is begging to go back! It really is a great place to stay.

There is just no better bnb than Chestnut Street Inn. We've stayed in the Rosewood Suite many times, and it's fabulous every time, but what Monika & Jeff have done with the dining experience is just outstanding! The breakfast is completely yummy, but the dinners are phenomenal. You absolutely have to have dinner with them - it's a MUST!! They are gracious and warm hosts, and you will love every minute of your stay with them!

This was our first stay at the Chestnut Street Inn and it well exceeded all expectations. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas, the food was beyond delicious and the innkeepers are delightful! Chef Monika even altered the menu to make sure it was safe for my pregnancy. We had just come through a stressful 2 months dealing with a family crisis and needed a getaway that would allow us to do absolutely nothing. The first place that we thought of was the Chestnut Inn in Sheffield. We had been there last year and appreciated the slow pace atmosphere of the community and the high quality of accommodations and food that we found there. It was refreshing to know that Monika and Jeff had remembered us from our first visit. It was like coming to visit relatives. We had the freedom to be alone or to visit with them. They are very genuine people who are very detail oriented in their service to their guests.

Our stay was short as we were passing through to Chicago. We go in late and had to leave early. What a shame. This place is so cool and Monica and Jeff are the perfect Innkeepers.We got in too late for dinner but the place was packed so you know we missed an excellent meal. We found that out the next morning when breakfast came. It was fabulous.Highly recomended. The next time the Chestnut will be our destination and not just a place us weary travelers to sleep. We look forward to returning.

We brought friends to stay with us at the Chestnut Street Inn, and we had really built up the friendliness of Monika and Jeff, the fineness of the inn, and the fabulous food. Everything met our expectations and we were all delighted with our stay.

This was one of the bed B%B's we've ever stayed at! Delicious food and every attention to detail was made. Jeff and Monica were fun and attentive hosts!

We hadn't realized that such an amazing inn was located in the little rural village of Sheffield. The Chestnut Street Inn is a gem of a B&b. It is located on a quiet, tree-lined street with convenient parking right in front. From the moment we stepped through the door and were greeted by the aroma of freshly baked bread we felt at home and at ease. Jeff and Monika, the innkeepers, are congenial, interesting and enthusiastic hosts who are dedicated to making your visit very special. As their website includes ample photos of the inn and the monthly menu list I won't try to describe the decor or the individual dishes that Monika prepares. Suffice it to say that the rooms (and beds) are comfy, the plumbing and furnace work just fine, and the common areas are well-decorated, comfortable, and more than conducive to relaxing and mingling with your fellow guests. A big plus was having dinner available in the evening after a day of sightseeing. No need to go away from the inn seeking a restaurant. Our meal was Moroccan themed (Monika's specialty) and everything was delicious. The high point of the meal, for me, was the creme brulee which was the best I've ever eaten. The inn also serves the best coffee we have ever had at a B&B. There is a wine list with a limited selection of reasonably priced wines. If you would like to bring your own wine it is easy to check their website to see what is being served for dinner so you can make an appropriate pairing. There is a nominal corkage fee of $5. We had a very pleasant stay at reasonable rates and look forward to a return visit.

My siblings and I stayed in the 4 rooms at Chestnut Inn and had a great time. We had dinner there (as well as breakfast, of course) and the food is delicious and presented beautifully. Monika also accommodated a gluten free diet for 2 of us -- even in the snacks she made! The rooms are also beautiful, comfortable and immaculate. A HUGE thank you to Monika and Jeff for making our weekend so special.

You owe it to yourself to go and stay because if you do you will not beable to stay away, I know you will be back again. We had an exceptional time! Monika and Jeff are wonderful hosts and served a delightful gourmet meal Saturday evening. The Green Room Suite provded us with some extra space and privacy. The newly remodeled bathroom was delightful. I heartily recommend The Chestnut Street Inn to anyone looking for a quiet get-a-way in central Illinois.

Jeff and Monika, the Innkeepers, have created a rural oasis at their beautiful Victorian mansion that is unparalleled. This charming building opened its arms to us, as did our amazing hosts. Inside, I marveled at (and was envious of!) this home. It has been restored to its original grandeur and the spirit of the surroundings settles on you instantly. You feel safe, content and WELCOME. Our rooms were impeccably outfitted to meet every need. The bed linens were a cocoon and I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning! But when the aroma from Monika's kitchen hit my senses, I was up and ready to see what culinary adventure awaited. At each meal, we dined in the beautiful and bright Sun Room. The service is above and beyond what you expect at a B&B. Every need was met, every request was granted with a smile. The neatness and cleanliness of the Inn is beyond reproach. Nothing was out of place; everything sparkled. The antiques and other rare finds that are scattered tastefully throughout the Inn were interesting and fun (the daguerreotype in our sitting room was especially entertaining!). We spent ample time in the community rooms and outdoors on the patio, enjoying the adorable garden. If your goal is total relaxation, the innkeepers have achieved it and then some. You will not be disappointed. The food at the Inn is beyond amazing. Truly 5+ stars...imaginative, creative, succulent gourmet dishes, paired with perfect wines and blissful desserts. The price of the stay, the meals and the cooking class we took were bargains for the luxury of the accommodations, the lushness of the meals and hospitality we experienced. My friend and I were so impressed that we intend to make this an annual trek to unwind from the cares of the world...and we now consider Jeff and Monika to be our friends. I had the good fortune to stay at the Chestnut Street Inn this week for a mid-week girlfriends getaway. There are not enough superlatives to describe this charming Inn. The home is beautiful in a quiet country setting. The rooms are decorated with lovely antiques and include all the creature comforts - the linens are amazing; warm, cozy bathrobes.... The meals created lovingly by Monika are not to be missed. Make sure you include dinner with your stay...better yet, take a cooking class with Monika. It was great fun and oh, so delicious - and you get to enjoy the fruits of your "labor" and earn a few bragging rights too! Monika and Jeff are wonderful hosts who clearly know how to pamper their guests. We are already making plans to make this an annual tradition. But I have a feeling I'll be back much sooner than that!

My husband and I had the Rosewood Suite. It was so comfortable. We did not use the fireplace as it was to warm yet but it would have been awesome to have it going. We loved the private dining room although it would have been fun to eat with the other guests and Jeff and Monika. The service outstanding, the food scrumptious. This was my wife Nan and my first B&B experience, and based on it---we will visit many others. Just a perfect experience. Monika and Jeff were the most charming and gracious hosts and provided us with such a warm and welcoming home. The room was immaculate and beautiful, the breakfast was gourmet, and the service perfect! They think of everything, including snacks in the room, and late-nite cake for a muncher like me. Satellite TV with all the movies, toilet paper like we use in our home, a library, everything to make your stay wonderful. Don't try to get this place when my class has it's next reunion---we plan to book all 4 rooms early! Come and see these people and see why everyone rates this place as 'outstanding'!

Can't say enough about our stay at the Chestnut Street Inn. We really wanted a weekend away to relax and this fit the bill. The service was friendly and prompt, the room was cozy (fireplace lit for us every night) and clean and the food was superb. We were particularly pleased that Chef Monika used locally sourced meat and produce when possible. We'll be back soon. About the town...Sheffield is sleepy and quiet, perfect for doing nothing...although their new antique store, Mary Ann-tiques is worth a drop-in.

Wonderful evening; chocolate theme dinner. Interesting mix of customers with common goal of enjoying Chef Monika's creations. Rooms are very clean and comfortable with a classic Antebellum feel. Breakfast was stress free fun. A treat we could never make at home. Monika & Jeff are wonderful innkeepers.

My husband treated me to a wonderful weekend for our 25th anniversary with an overnite stay at the beautiful Chestnut Street Inn. The meal we enjoyed was the Chocolate Extravaganza with every course having a touch of chocolate incoporated into the dish, which was appropritate as on our first day he arrived with flowers and chocolate and later told me he knew one or the other would spark my interest. We are both chocolate lovers so this was a real treat to be treated a chocolate-themed dinner and in such a unique and delicious presentation. Our room was lovely and the entire Inn is beautifully decorated and maintained. Monika and Jeff were such gracious hosts and we feel we made 2 new friends that we will look forward to seeing again and again.

Every time we visit the Chestnut Street Inn, we are bowled over by the hospitality and gourmet food. This visit was no exception, and it was all the more enjoyable because we were joined by a dear friend. With four beautiful rooms in this historical property, this B&B is a great place to plan reunions and rendezvous with friends. My husband has enjoyed playing at the two conveniently located golf courses, and I’ve enjoyed days of beauty at Sophisticuts Salon & Spa. The innkeepers at Chestnut Street Inn go out of their way to plan fun and relaxing activities for guests, but the real story about this inn is the food. Dinner the first night was a Moroccan feast, which included Roasted Red Pepper Soup, Zucchini Chips, Roasted Beet, Orange and Goat Cheese Salad, Tagine of Beef with Sweet Potatoes, Cinnamon and Orange Blossom Crème Brulee. Breakfast the next morning was made to order for me since I am on a diet, and included fluffy eggs scrambled in truffle oil with broccoli and fresh local fruits. Chef Monika is the author of two cookbooks, and an award-winning gluten-free, vegetarian, or dietary-specific gourmet food magician. The second night’s dinner was Indian-inspired with Spicy Bean Soup, Cucumber Raita, Tomato and Scallion Salad, Chicken Curry with Rice, Strawberry and Ginger Sorbet. Dinner is only $30/person with huge portions, and the quality of the courses and menu are what one would expect to easily pay $100+/person for in any metro area. The hospitality is top-notch, rooms so well-appointed, beds blissful, and the cuisine is an Epicurean’s dream on Chestnut Street!

My closest friend and I share a birthday month and I had heard great talk of the Chestnut Street Inn, so we decided to get all the rooms and invite friends to stay!! Jeff and Monika were most welcoming!! We all enjoyed our stay so much. The food was fantastic and we had two of the pickiest eaters and they were so accomidating! Breakfast was fantastic...beds were comfy,,,,we had so many laughs and made great memories!! I would recommend this bed n breakfast to anyone!!! Absolutely perfect for us!!!! We went to the Inn for a quick birthday and anniversary get away. It felt like home away from home . Jeff and Monika are so warm and friendly. They showed us around and to our room , which was beautiful and very comfortable. It was Julia Child weekend , the food was incredible, the service amazing. Very entertaining evening since Jeff and Monika's backgrounds are in theater , we were treated to an impresonation of Ms. Julia and serenaded as well. We will definately go back.

We have stayed several times at the Chestnut Inn and it is our favorite BB. We love the peaceful small town setting and once your in the house you've entered paradise. This was our first stay at a bed & breakfast, and I fear we have already experienced the best. Beautiful home, warm and efficient owners, FANTASTIC food. We relished the 4 course dinner and would visit again just for the meals. The crab bisque soup was superb! It was a 100 degree day during our visit, and being too hot to go outside in the evening to enjoy the lovely yard and patio was the only downside.

This was my first experience staying at a B&B and I couldn't have been more impressed! Monika's cooking is so good, that I don't believe in letting a single drop go to waste! Jeff and Monika, thank you so much for your hospitality! I look forward to my next stay!

My husband and I enjoyed a get-away weekend stay at the Chestnut Inn the first weekend of April. Monika and Jeff were incredibly personable and accommodating and the food was phenomenal! We stayed in the master suite, enjoying our own dining room for lazy breakfast in our p.j.'s and a soak in the deep, original tub. Lovely as the rooms, both public and private were, it is the amazing food and the friendly conversation with Jeff and Monika which will definitely bring us back again and recommend the inn to others!

Spending a night at the Chestnut Inn in Sheffield exceeded my expectations across the board. Jeff and Monika made us feel like long lost friends. The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. The town is peaceful. The stay was delightful even before we started eating, but dinner was probably one of the best meals I have eaten. Each dish was perfectly prepared, perfectly presented, and happily consumed. This was an experience I hope to repeat on a regular basis.

Although we've had dinner at the Chestnut Street Inn numerous times (we LOVE Chef Monika's cooking!!!), we had never booked a room and stayed the night since we live nearby in the Quad Cities...but since we decided to celebrate my birthday by signing up for the Gourmet Dinner with Wine Pairings for each of the 7 courses, we decided to book a room, enjoy the wine and food, and spend the night. Not only were the Gourmet Dinner and Wine Pairing perfection (we've never had a better meal...EVER!!!), so were the beautiful B&B and our clean and comfortable room (Rosewood suite). The decor was lovely, the room was spotless, the sheets had an amazing thread count and were ironed and crisp. We had our own restroom and private dining area with original tiles and tub. Innkeepers Jeff and Monika are so friendly, welcoming and pay attention to details without being intrusive...and Monica is the BEST CHEF EVER! We had such a wonderful stay that we decided to bring the entire family together there at the Chestnut Street Inn for our holiday get-together! My mom and I spent a night at the Chestnut Street Inn after visiting Hornbaker Gardens and Princeton. It is beautiful house with awesome hosts. The beds were so comfortable, we had to ask what kind they are! Breakfast the next morning was delicious. It was also nice getting to visit with Monika and Jeff. I highly recommend this inn.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn. What a great experience. The house and grounds were very well kept and inviting. We were greeted immediately at the door and made at ease by the innkeepers, Jeff and Monika. They took us on a tour of their wonderful house, and explained that everything was available to their guests at any time. The house is large, clean and comfortable. The room was very well decorated and also very comfortable. We regretted that we did not arrive in time for dinner, but woke to a hearty and delicious breakfast prepared for us in the morning. We enjoyed our discussions with both Jeff and Monika, and found them to be genuinely fun and engaging. The food is awesome. This B&B is great for both travelers and weekend get-awayers. Highly recommended.

WOW! - We were looking for a place to celbrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I was thinking glitzy hotel in downtown Chicago with dinner in one of the trendy hot spots. My wife had a better idea, with a slower pace outing a couple of hours from Chicago. What a difference! This is a mansion from the mid-1800s which has been updated and the upstairs carved into 4 bedrooms (each with its own bathroom), including the Rosewood suite which has a private dining room - the ultimate en suite!! We had our anniversary dinner in our suite, which was a 6 course gormet dinner with imaginative offerings and wine pairings. The dinner was every bit as satisfying culinariarly as if we judges on the Iron Chef. Chef Monika is certainly a flavorful genious, and husband Jeff adds an enthusiastic flair to the proceedings! The bed in the Rosewood suite was luxurious, and we were asked to name our preferred time for breakfast (which we also had en suite!) for the morning! With hiking and biking trails nearby, a sleepy town, and an outstanding culinary experience - this will be a place we come back to. Please don't tell anyone, or we'll have trouble booking in the future! Oooops!

We've stayed at B&B's all over the planet--France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the U.S. The Chestnut Street Inn is the absolute BEST! On a five-point scale, we'd give it a 10! Wonderful food; beautiful decor; comfort, comfort, comfort; Monika and Jeff are beyond gracious; everything is immaculately clean; and beautiful gardens. On a personal note, very few B&B's are able or willing to accommodate gluten intolerant guests; Monika not only provides safe, delicious, gluten-free meals, she wrote the book on it. Her cookbook, "Gluten-free Entertaining for Everyone," is a gem. And did I mention the oh, so comfortable bed, with the 9,000 thread count sheets? I'm probably exaggering a little on the thread count, but the sheets are in a category of their own, like everything else at the Chestnut Hill Inn!

We were surprised when we discovered this gem in the midst of rural Illinois and would highly recommend The Chestnut Inn to everyone. The dining experience alone was worth the visit and the overnight accommodations just added to the wonderful time we had during our first stay at the Inn. Monika and Jeff are the most gracious of hosts and we look forward to our future visits.

We came after getting married and loved the atmosphere and hospitality. The food was excellent, they were very entertaining, and had a lot of touristry tips that will really help our next trip out a ton. There are a lot of places in the back also to take photographs, and they were very helpful in helping us take pictures too. This is a great B&B!

We spent two night in the Rosewood suite celebrating our 30th anniversary. We included the four course dinner each evening. The home is beautiful in its decor. We loved our room with its own bath and enjoyed breakfast each morning in our private attached dining room. I truly can not do justice in explaining the meals we were served. Jeff and Monika do an outstanding job in presentation and preparation of each plate. I would recommend this B&B to anyone needing a quiet, relaxing retreat with a fun Mediterranean twist for their meals.

The Inn is lovely, Monica and Jeff are so much fun and the food is worth the drive from Chicago alone. Monica has to be one of the best chefs in Illinois. We visit them every year without fail.

Situated in the quiet country town of Sheffield IL, the Chestnut St. Inn is a delight. We stayed there recently for a reunion with friends. The inn is nicely decorated with the 4 bedrooms comfortably furnished with all modern facilities. There is a pretty garden and the patio is the perfect spot for relaxing on a summer night. Service is warm and attentive without being intrusive. Add Monika's delicious cooking and you won't want to leave.

This was our first B&B stay. We have always avoided B&B's. I can truly say this B&B was outstanding. Monika & Jeff treated us like family. They did everything to make our stay great. The room was very comfortable and the decor was good. We had the Federal Room. The food was excellent. Monika is a great chef and Jeff is a great host. We were sorry to see our stay end.

We have stayed at dozens of B&Bs around the U.S. & Great Britain and Monika & Jeff were 2 of the best hosts we've ever had the pleasure of meeting! From the moment they opened the front door to greet us, till we said our 'goodbyes', they made us feel like we were part of their family! Chestnut Street Inn is a lovely home full of treasures anyone would want to 'explore'! Being in a garden club myself, I truly enjoyed their beautiful gardens & landscaping as well as the lovely porch where we relaxed after dinner. And speaking of dinner... you MUST try it there! Monika is an award winning chef & you will taste that in your first bite! And of course breakfast was just as delicious! Our rooms were clean, comfy, cozy & very relaxing! What more could we ask for? The food was amazing and the perfect portion size and blend of flavors. The wine suggestion was perfect, the room was clean and comfortable, down to the wonderful sheets! Breakfast was amazing. Monika accommodated dietary restrictions with ease. We enjoyed chatting with Jeff and Monika about food, cooking, their travels and ours.

From the minute we arrived, we were welcomed as favored guests and graciously encouraged to relax and be comfortable. We were invited to help ourselves to assorted teas, coffee and soft drinks and delicious cookies--homemade coconut macaroons when we arrived--at any time of the day or night. After being there for a couple of hours we felt like members of the family. This home is spacious, beautifully decorated, in a quiet neighborhood, and totally inviting. The bedrooms are lovely, the beds very comfortable, and the sheets are luxurious. Monika and Jeff are warm, delightful people who focus on getting to know each person's likes and dislikes, and they take pride in pleasing each guest. In addition to everything else, the food Monika creates is unforgettable! Breakfast is included and very delicious, but don't miss the opportunity to enjoy her 4-5 course gourmet evening meals. And even if you are not gluten-intolerant, buy her cookbooks for yourself, your family and all of your friends. The Chocolate Expresso Pots de Creme recipe alone is worth the very reasonable price of the book. In the cookbook she shares a wealth of information and each recipe I've created has been fabulous! Unlike some chefs, Monika delights in sharing the secrets that make it possible for you to also be a successful cook. We can't wait to return and take a private cooking class from her during our next stay.

A little hidden GEM! Rooms are great, clean, pretty, the whole place has an ambiance about it of antique and modern amenities merging in a wonderful way. Food is outstanding, fresh tasty and unique. A variety of amazing sensations to the palate. But perhaps the best part is the hosts, Monika and Jeff who are not only accommodating, and beyond friendly, they are super fun witty and very entertaining. Just a delight to stay there or just to go to have dinner there. Very highly recommend to anyone. Bravo Monika and Jeff!!!

This is a gem in nice and quiet western Illinois. Sheffield is cute and the Inn is a lovely historical building. The innkeepers are the most hospitable and social couple who really make you feel at home during your stay. The food is outstanding, we had dinner and breakfast and both were excellent! We were there for a birthday getaway and we are already recommending to all our friends to go and check in at the Inn!

It had been a hard year so far for a friend and me. I saw this B & B advertised in Midwest Living and was intrigued. We actually drove 388 miles to get to Sheffield. The room (suite) was fabulous. So comfortable. The food was spectacular. Monika is a wonderful chef. On this trip we only had one regret...and that was we only had one night. We both agreed we wished we had scheduled 2 or 3 nights. We will definitely return. Chestnut Street Inn is easily 5 stars.

We experienced a trip to the Mediterranean (without leaving the country) in a beautiful 150 yr.old home, The Chestnut St. Inn in Sheffield Illinois, which is only a few hours from where we live. The lovely Innkeepers Monika and Jeff are a delightful couple to share a few days with! While Monika is in the kitchen creating incredible meals (which she displays in such a charming way!), Jeff will make sure you are comfortable in all ways. They truly make their Inn a home away from home for visitors! And I have to say something about the sheets on the bed....I have never slept on sheets as soft and inviting as those at the Chestnut St. Inn! The price for the rooms are very reasonable and once you have breakfast you know you are getting more for your money! We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful home and plan on returning again and again. Thank you Monika and Jeff for living your dream and sharing it with us!

We had a fantastic stay at the Chestnut inn. Not only were the rooms warm and full of character and the food excellent at every turn, Monika and Jeff were extremely hospitable and welcoming every step of the way. We never felt like we were putting them out, despite my many special requests (keeping a room upgrade and spa package a secret from my wife so I could surprise her, for one). They went above and beyond, even to the point of finding our coats that we carelessly left behind and mailing them to us with a question asked. Their only request for payment was that we return to visit them. Don't worry Jeff and Monika, we will! One more thing, Monika is a master chef and is well known around town for her cuisine. The food at the Chestnut Inn would compete with Chicago restaurants (our hometown), in terms of flavor, quality and diversity, so expect to be impressed (especially if you like middle eastern food!)

I stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn for two nights on a recent business trip and was thoroughly thrilled. I am normally not a B&B person, but the hotel offerings were grim. I was lured by the promise of good food to Chestnut Street Inn, and Monika did not fail to deliver. The room was very nice; the bathroom impeccable; the guest space private; good wireless internet connection; the breakfasts were cosmic; and the four-course dinner was fantastic. Jeff and Monika are consummate hosts, and I could not recommend this B&B highly enough. Now, if only they could just operate a B&B closer to civilization....

We enjoyed our stay at Chestnut Street Inn very much. The house is charming, the room was cozy and extremely clean! The bed was comfortable, topped with lots of pillows. The option of having meals prepared for special diets was unexpected and a great find! The hosts were extremely accommodating but didn't hover. We loved the place and its relatively close proximity to Starved Rock State Park. We'll be back!

We truly enjoyed our second stay at the Chestnut Street Inn - this time with the added bonus of an evening meal - which was outstanding and equal to or better than anything I've had in any fine restaurant. We drove 108 miles to spend one night at the Chestnut Street Inn, based upon information we obtained from a brochure and on the Internet. It was well worth every gallon of gasoline! I (the female partner in this venture) took a fun cooking class from Chef Monika, and our dinner was shared with another couple, which was another good experience. We were impressed with the amenities and decor, as well as with the cordial reception we received from Monika and Jeff. We would definitely go back again if the opportunity presents itself. Although we have been guests at the Chestnut Inn several times in the past, this past weekend was the BEST YET! Monika and Jeff worked with me to plan a surprise retirement/birthday party for my husband. All the rooms were booked for our immediate family, who were there to surprise John at check-in time. Little did he know that there would be 40 people for a private dinner that night, and again for brunch. Once again, Monika and Jeff welcomed up with warm hospitality, making us truly feel like family. Our children now know why we rave about going there. Although I tell my husband he gets only one party, we will return to the Chestnut Inn again and again.

Couldn't ask for better hosts than Monika and Jeff. Our gourmet dinner was an A+. Having purchased Monika's cookbook, I plan to attempt the asparagus wrapped prosciutto, all the way through to the maple cinnamon Creme Brulee. Our room was comfortable & clean. Breakfast was fun as our hosts joined us for conversation and coffee. We shall return!

I spent the night at this most charming B&B and felt completely refreshed when I awoke the following day! It's hard to put in words how it took all my stress away for only a short time but it did! The food is unbelievable good and the innkeepers couldn't be nicer. I am blessed to know them and plan on making it a monthly refresher to the hectic pace of everyday life.

I'm so glad to have found the Chestnut Inn. My two stays have been delightful and atmosphere was very comfortable and homey. The dinner hour was enjoyable, and couples could be seated at their own tables, as well. The various courses and entrees I've had were fabulous, and meals were unrushed. Will return about 2-3 more times this year if possible. Although it's a six-hour drive, I would not go anywhere else.

I decided to plan a one night get away for my girlfriend and I. It started off with a ballet to see Romeo and Juliet. Then I wanted to surprise her with a night at a bed and breakfast, then do a little sight seeing. I would have to say the Chestnut Street Inn was actually our high light of our get away. Jeff and Monika have a lovely home and they were excellent host. They catered to our every need. The rooms are very beautiful and very comfortable. I know Laurie and I will return again to do more that the Sheffield area has to offer. I highly recommend everyone to visit at least once.

Recently I made a trip home for family business and was lucky enough to find room at the inn, the Chestnut Street Inn. In a way, it was better than going home, and I was pleased to see that the owners had adopted the best of the midwest--good ingredients for their fabulous meals and midwestern friendliness. The food was outstanding and the owners could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The inn was comfortable and well run, and it was simply a pleasure to be in town. My sisters and I love staying there, and it was great to see Monika and Jeff again.

We picked a perfect weekend for a getaway - it was rainy and gloomy but we never wanted for a thing at the cozy Chestnut Street Inn. Monika and Jeff are perfectly suited to their roles as innkeepers. On Sunday, February 13th, we had a gourmet Valentine's Dinner prepared by Monica at the Chestnut Street Inn. Monica's five course meal was exquisite to the taste buds. The presentation and service by Monica and Jeff was a journey of attention to details and keeping the diners happy. What made the meal and stay so "memorable" was that my wife's sister and husband surprised us by enjoying the magical Valentine's Moments! Going on our 51st year of marriage, it was a time we will never forget!

My husband and I spent one night at Chestnut Street Inn in January. Cold, kind of icky out. We were on our way home from Eagle watching in the Quad cities. Our room was so comfortable. Our hosts were so comfortable, we felt like we were at a friends home, who just happened to have a really cool house and who happened to be chef. What more could you want? Seriously.. don't take our word.. just go there. You will not be disappointed.

I can honestly say that I was made to feel so welcome and relaxed that it was like being right in my own home but with all the special amenities and service that go along with a wonderful B & B stay! And this one is WONDERFUL! The decor, the spacious rooms, the FOOD, and of course Monika and Jeff! I rendezvoused with several other friends from around the state. We were there two nights and got the full treatment (breakfast and dinner). Chef Monika has of course won several awards and now I know why----the meals were culinary delights! When we walked into the Chestnut Street Inn, we literally walked away from our very busy lifestyle and experienced a 20 hour respite which focused on total relaxation and pampering. The Rosewood Suite was absolutely charming with its lovely English decor, fireplace, private dining room and four poster comfy bed. The ambiance was delightful! The innkeepers, Jeff and Chef Monika Sudakov, were amazing. They both made us feel very welcome. Chef Monika's culinary talents complemented the entire experience and our meals, which included a four course Italian dinner, were truly delicious. We will definitely return and will highly recommend this B&B to our family and friends.

This is my mine and my wife's third stay. We love to get away in the middle of winter and spend our days by the huge fire at Starved Rock reading (we have little ones, anyone that has little ones understands the draw of this!). Then we love to spend our evenings in this quiet and cozy B&B. This is our 3rd stay over the last 5 years. Fantastic breakfast again, as always. Would have been more stays except for having the kids and not being able to get away some years...see you guys again in '11!

I have stayed in many bed and breakfast inns and this one was far and above the most spectacular I have ever stayed in. The innkeepers genuinely care about every detail of your stay and are willing to do whatever they can to make you comfortable, from picking you up at the train station to allowing you to eat breakfast at the time that is best for you. Not only was the inn immaculate, the room comfortable, and the service excellent, but the food was unbelieveable. We ate dinner both nights and were blown away by the beautifully prepared, locally-focused food. Even breakfast is a incredible plated gourmet meal. I still don't think I am hungry even though I left a week ago! I cannot recommend this inn enough. If you'd like to get away to the beautiful countryside but eat well like you are in a big city, this place has it all.

My wife and I stayed for one night to celebrate our 14th anniversary. The location was convenient, as it was only 2.5 hours away from our home in the Chicagoland area, and it was conducive to help us relax from our hectic schedules. The food was delicious and very flavorful; and our room (The Rosewood) was spacious, had a fireplace, and had a private dining room where we could eat in a more private and cozy setting. The innkeepers were very friendly and helped to create a welcoming atmosphere.

My wife's birthday is between Christmas and New Year. During this time of the year in Chicagoland, there are not a lot of places a couple could escape to. Thanks to this web site I found the perfect place to celebrate my wife's fiftieth birthday. The moment we entered Chestnut Street Inn, we knew we were in for a special treat. Jeff greeted us like we were honored guests. He gave us a quick tour around the beautifully decorated house and and our suite. He then gave us a brief history of the house and the town. The highlight was the dinner. Every ingredient was exquisitely prepared by Chef Monica - tomato bisque, mixed greens with specially prepared pecans, quinoa cakes and creme brule. We both were very satisfied with the food and the stay. It was a memorable event for us.

I went to get away for the evening...just me...under a Veterans' Day deal they had going (THANK YOU)!!! Jeff picked me up at Amtrak Station with his Chestnut Inn polo on for recognition...nice for a solo female traveler;) Cozy drive to the Inn where I met the delightful Monika...I decided to take a cooking course (FYI...you are missing something if you don't tap into Monika's knowledge about food and mediterranean culture...you will see her on TOP CHEF someday...I cooked with her...just know that everything, down to the last spice, has been very carefully selected and is 95% nutritionally sound...5% for dessert...but who would have it any other way;)...all of this knowledge, and top notch instruction coupled with cuisine that you might experience in the finest and trendiest restaurants in Chicago...but, without the attitude (or price)!!! Perfect! ...Then I was able to sit with the other guests in the dining room to enjoy the meal I helped cook (that was part of the deal...nice!) My room was super cozy and HUGE...I stayed in the Rosewood suite...I felt like a princess...Was great to have to myself!!! But...wonderful space for a couple...with a private dining room if you cared to get more alone time...sitting area and fireplace...movies if you care to...Highly recommend...You can still have a cooking lesson/eat here, if you are not an overnighter...Don't miss it!

What a wonderful experience staying at the Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield, IL. Who would think such a marvelous place would be in a small Illinois town. We had a delicious meal and the accommodations were beautiful and very comfortable. Monika and Jeff were delightful hosts and were great fun interacting with us, making it a really fun experience.

This was my 4th Christmas at the Inn. Jeff and Monika always make sure our stay is perfect. We spent Christmas Eve with a fire in the fireplace, hang our stockings on the mantel and put our presents under the tree. They even called friends to find out when a Christmas Eve service was for us. Breakfast was wonderful! The coffee (their own signature blend) is excellent!

The Chestnut Street Inn is quietly tucked away in a small but quaint Illinois town that was conveniently along the way for a holiday road trip to Chicago. Jeff and Monika are friendly innkeepers and offer great attention-to-detail that made us feel especially welcome. In addition to the excellent breakfast, we also enjoyed the meal the evening prior. The evening meal is an optional add-on that we highly recommend. You won't find that offered at many other inns. The food is delightfully aromatic and wonderfully delicious and very deserving of a standing ovation. The beds are fit for a heavenly sleep and the rooms are decorated very beautifully and comfortably. Add this inn to your must visit and stay list!

We had a spectacular weekend at the Chestnut Street Inn. Jeff and Monika are hosts extaordinaire! We had a Moroccan dinner that was surperb. We had planned to stay only one night but fortune was with us as a total white-out snowstorm "forced" us to spend yet another delightful night at this oasis of relaxation.

I choose to stay with Monika and Jeff because the Inn is more like home!! It isn't just another hotel. Last week, their boiler went out the morning I was to arrive. They gave me the option of canceling. Yet, I chose to stay with them anyway simply because they are delightful people and the Inn is more like home. Even when it's cold and no heat, you just cannot go wrong staying with Monika and Jeff.

If you have gotten to the point of reading this review you already recognize many of the best things we saw in the Chestnut Street Inn. What you don't know is that your expectations will be greatly exceeded. Monika and Jeff are interesting, attentive, pleasant hosts. The food is to die for. We had stayed in Cincinnati the night before and had eaten at the number one retsaurant in the city. It was great, but Monika's meals were every bit as good -- or even better. Location and parking are convenient. Rooms are charming, confortable and clean. You'll love the place.

I enjoyed my stay. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and very generous portions. I took a scone with me and enjoyed it the next day, yummy! Rooms are clean and cozy and the house is roomy and eclectic. Thinking about it now makes me hungry for more! Very safe location, plenty of parking.

The Green Room was a wonderful retreat for the stay my brother and I just completed. The suite included a sitting/TV room for late night or early morning down-time, a charming single bedroom, a roomy larger bedroom and updated bathroom - providing privacy for each of us. The decorations were charming and not overdone. Monika and Jeff were perfect hosts. We thought that we may have to cancel our dinner reservation, due to unforeseen travel problems, but instead, they just rearranged the time. Monika provided a relaxed gourmet dinner in their beautiful dining room. Each course let us experience food from a different country. The crème brulée was out of this world! Breakfast was another taste treat in their sunny breakfast room overlooking the patio and yard. We look forward to a return visit to this beautiful B & B.

Staying at the Chestnut Street Inn was the best B & B experience I have ever had. We stayed in a beautiful room which an eating room which was very romantic. The Inn thought of everything for comfort: snacks, bottled water, wonderful soap and shampoo, hair dryer, bathrobes, movies, books, games, etc... The food was OUTSTANDING!!!! Service was so friendly. I have no negative comments to make. A huge recommendation!!!

Great Innkeepers...always "on" and you feel pampered and cared for. We stayed in the Rose Room and had breakfast in our private dining room while lounging in bathrobes. An extremely special experience for friends and couples.

Monica and Jeff are amazingly generous. On 10 Nov, they donated every room in the Inn to Veterans. Many B&B owners participated in the 1 night appreciation for Veterans, but most only gave one room. Monica and Jeff made every single one of us feel like honored and treasured guests. The Inn is gorgeous, the food is splendid, and Monica and Jeff are fascinating and enjoyable Inn-keepers. We have been to many B&Bs - this one is something special.

I am often in the US on business and this is the first time I have used a B&B. It will definitely be my preferred choice from now on. The Chestnut St. Inn was fantastic, from the welcome to the room to the excellent food. This is a real hidden gem!

Monika and Jeff are the most inviting and friendly hosts we've met. Within minutes, we weren't guests; we were friends. Our stay started with a tour of the Inn followed by homemade Baklava. We were stunned when upgraded from the Blue Room to the Rosewood Suite. Our stay was a gift to veterans from our hosts; this was a pleasant surprise! Dinner at 6:30. First course was butternut squash ravioli with fried sage leaves from the garden. Buttery, fragrant, and paired perfect. Next, baby spinach salad with pomegranate, fresh goat cheese, Chinese 5-spice candied pecans, and D'anjou pear vinaigrette. A well matched salad and very tasty! Main course was salmon with a marinade of pickled lemons, ginger, olives, garlic and more served with bok choy and roasted potatoes with smoked paprika and olive oil. The salmon flaked easily and wasn't overpowered by the marinade. Neither of us could finish the huge meal. Dessert was offered; fresh homemade creme brulee, but we couldn't eat another bite so we passed. Later, we lit a fire, relaxed and watched movies before turning in. The King size bed was firm but comfortable, with plenty of pillows and blankets. Pull down shades kept the room dark in the morning, so sleeping in was no problem. Breakfast at 9am downstairs. Breakfast was fitting for half of what you pay for in a BED and BREAKFAST. She has created a pancake using corn meal and organic flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, and pomegranate seeds; light yet hearty at the same time. Three pancakes with sausage, kiwi fruit, and banana. Our hosts joined us for breakfast and wonderful conversation. No handshakes when leaving, but hugs were shared between new friends as we said not goodbye, but in true Navy form, said "see ya", intending to cross paths again. We offer our most heartfelt recommendation to anyone looking to stay at an affordable, affable, and gastronomically romantic Bed and Breakfast anywhere. It is worth your visit. Dear Monika and Jeff, Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I enjoyed spending the night in the Green Room. Everything about the room was just perfect and the bed was comfortable. Dinner and breakfast (what else can I say!!) were great as usual. We had the Apricot glazed Pork roast and it was very good. Then breakfast was the French toast made with scones instead of bread. Outstanding!!!!! We have had dinner with Monika and Jeff several times and have enjoyed everything Monika has ever prepared. However this was our first time to stay overnight and have breakfast. Staying at the Sheffield Chestnut Street Inn was such a refreshing break from the daily grind. The rural community of Sheffield, IL was peaceful and especially beautiful when we visited in the fall. The breakfasts were amazing. Monika is an extremely gifted chef. We also enjoyed the special dinner that she prepared for us (for an extra fee). It was so worth it! Jeff & Monika were warm and friendly.

My wife and I stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn this last Saturday (11/6/10) to celebrate our 2 year Anniversary. We could not have been more happy with our first bed and breakfast experience! Jeff and Monica treated us with great respect from our first contact at reservation to our time of departure. Since we were one of the first to make the reservation, Monica asked the foods we liked from the previous month's menu and catered to our specific tastes. This dinner was fabulous on Saturday night and consisted of Chicken Marsala, bread scones, a butternut squash soup, and a few choices of deserts, which were all amazing! Our room was extremeley comfortable and we had an amazing night. Even though this was our first bed and breakfast, we had very nice conversations with other guests who had a lot of experience with them. They all said that Chestnut Street Inn is one the top (if not THE top) B&B that they had had ever been to. One of the couples had been back over a dozen times, celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. In summary, a great B&B, with great food, owners, and atmosphere. We loved it! Todd & Crystal

I recently found myself needing a weekend away from life, so I headed to the Chestnut Street Inn to enjoy the wonderful hospitality that is so abundant there. Dinner was excellent, and definitely worth the indulgence. I could eat Monika's creme brulee every day! My room was lovely, and spotless. I love having a robe available, and access to any movie I could think of. When I finally woke for breakfast, it was amazing, and more than enough to get me on the road back home. Jeff was great at providing coffee refills (fresh ground, by the way), and the conversation was great. I could chat with Jeff and Monika for hours because they are such interesting people! The Inn itself is decorated in a Moroccan motif, which is a wonderful accent to the otherwise traditional Victorian decor. I truly enjoyed my time away from home, and will be back sooner rather than later.

We stayed in the Blue Room on our wedding night. We were given a gift of the dinner as a wedding gift. This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast and it was a wonderful experience. Monika's cooking was FABULOUS, we thoroughly enjoyed Monika and Jeff's company, and we loved the feel of the house itself. This the by far the best Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed in. Monika and Jeff are very attentive to every need whether it's food or comfort. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well appointed. Sheffield is a laid back small town, very pretty with 100 miles of bike trail just a few miles away. Food is local, fresh, and pure, it's now wonder Chestnut Inn was voted one of the 10 best B&B's in the world for food. We recently stayed at Chestnut Street Inn and it was like coming home. Monika and Jeff are warm and friendly hosts who present delicious food in a casual atmosphere that is the result of meticulous care and attention to detail. We also enjoy the other guests who add to the ambience and provide good conversation on the patio in the afternoon and at breakfast. Each time we stay at Chestnut Street Inn, we hate to leave and look forward to our next stay.

this is our fourth time to stay here and perhaps our finest. The food is awesome, the hospitality is outstanding, and you just can't get this kind of elegance within 200 miles of here. We stay at B&B's a lot, and Chestnut Street, is a real keeper!

My wife and I live 2 hours away and stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn for a night. We had a great visit with Jeff and Monika and Monika's breakfast was excellent the next day. Jeff was helpful with local information the next day and they took the time to talk to use even though they had a full day to prepare three different meals. Chestnut is a relaxing place to stay and they treated us like we were family.

Our stay at the Inn during August 2010 was awesome and memorable, from the the first intro thru the great website, and on to the great assistance from Monika and Jeff in choosing our meal (we were the first to book for that nite). The Moroccan meal was extraordinary, as expected, and the decor in the rooms and around the house was charming, including news reprints confirming the passion that the innkeepers have for their dream. Our stay at the Chestnust Street Inn could not have been better. The room was beautiful....quiet, nice linens and bedding, updated bathroom. Monika and Jeff are friendly, professional and go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need throughout your visit. Monika is an exceptional chef. We think that we have been very lucky to have found Chestnut Street Inn in the village of Sheffield for our last night's stay in the USA before flying home to the UK. Monika was very welcoming on our arrival and showed great enthusiam when showing us her delightful accomodation and by the genuine interest in her 3 guests. Although our rooms were quite small, they were perfectly adequate for our visit: spotlessly clean with nice little touches such as the basket of chocolates! We can see why Monika is well known for her unusual cuisine, and it was nor wasted on our family! Thank you to the party of local farmers dining at the Inn, for making our last night in the USA so memorable. It was lovely to meet everyone, and their warmth and friendliness mimicked the experiences of our entire 2 weeks in the Mid West. The blueberry pancake breakfast was a treat too,(all ingredients organic and locally sourced) coupled with the friendly and interesting banter from Jeff and Monika over breakfast. If you want a taste of real Illinois hospitality - look no further. - A great find - or as the locals say - Awesome!

My husband booked us into the Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield for a get-away to celebrate our anniversary. The home itself is lovely as are the grounds. The sleepy little town of Sheffield made for a very quiet night's rest. We took advantage of Monika's cooking skills that evening enjoying a delicious meal served by her and her husband. I could go on and on about how wonderful the food was but think you might want to try it yourself. Monika posts each month's menus on their website. We are now planning for my husband's golfing group take over the house for a night or two depending on availability. We want to share this "hidden" gem we found with them.

All we can say is WOW! This B&B is truly top notch - from the comfy accomodations, welcoming atmosphere, to the delicious gourmet cuisine! We will be back!

If you haven't stayed here, then you haven't been with the most accomodating, generous hosts that any B&B has to offer. Jeff and Monika bring their experiences to Monika's cuisine and Jeff's hospitality services. I have been staying here for four years and never have I been disappointed. My business takes me to this part of Illinois, so business travelers, please note that this is the best alternative from any of the other hotels in the area. I love the Inn for business travel, getting away from the city, and biking the Hennipin canal trail. Please, take the opportunity to stay if you are in the area and treat yourself!

Monika and Jeff are gracious hosts. We arrived late in the evening and were warmly greeted and offered refreshments. Our son enjoyed watching a movie from their extensive offerings Breakfast was delicious. Monika makes the finest soufflé. This couple takes a genuine interest in making your stay a great experience.

Several days ago we spent our 35th Wedding Anniversary with Monika and Jeff at their wonderful Chestnut Street Inn. I wanted to wait a few days to give my review so that I had time to reflect on our experience. It was one of the best B & Bs we have ever stayed at. The room was excellent, comfortable, clean and unique. The food, prepared by Monika, was equal to a 5 star restaurant. But the most exceptional part of our stay was the friendliness and caring we received from our Innkeepers.
