My husband and I stayed at Hidden Lake for our 1 year anniversary. This was our first experience at a B&B and it was a great one. We stayed in the Romance Jacuzzi suite which was nice that it was away from the main house. However, there are other suites next to it so it wasn't quite as private as I was hoping. We felt very at home there and enjoyed just lounging in the room on a rainy day and of course going out on the wine trail! The breakfasts were amazing and Mary Jo and John were very friendly and hospitable. Their property is gorgeous and it was fun just watching the birds and fishing in the pond. Overall we both really enjoyed our experience at Hidden Lake and our glad we went!

I can't say enough about staying at this B&B. It was comfortable,very clean and the theme of each room was amazing. The owners John and Mary Jo made us feel like part of the family. their conversations with us were friendly and entertaining. The breakfast served to us was perfect and they are so accomodating. We had a special wine and cheese basket made for us and MaryJo did a fantastic job. The grounds around are so well maintained, the garden and lake are picture perfect. I would love to come again and again. Thanks MaryJo and John!!

My husband and I could not have been happier with the bed and breakfast that we chose to stay at. We were celebrating our anniversary and decided to do the Wine Trail in Southern Illinois. I chose Hidden Lake out of the list provided by the Wine Trail directory. I made the best choice. The innkeepers were delightful, upgrading us to a better room with no extra charge, the breakfasts were wonderful, not your regular run of the mill breakfast, but something different and delicious each day. We definitely have told our friends about this place and plan on staying at Hidden Lake again.

We stayed at Hidden Lake for several days and couldn't have asked for more. John & MaryJo made us feel instantly at home. The attention to detail was amazing. It seemed that we only had to think of something and it was there. Breakfast was delicious and their dog, Keetna, was a added benefit ... so sweet and so much fun. Hidden Lake is definitely the place to stay in Southern Illinois.

I was rather surprised that when choosing the wine country room my husband and I would be sharing 2 twin beds that were simply pushed together. Needless to say, this interfered with the comfort of cuddling. The room was very close to the owner's living quarters and at times could be louder than appreciated, especially in the mornings when we were not ready to waken, but the noise chose otherwise for us. Overall, the location was beautiful but will likely not return considering all the other bed and breakfasts yet to try.

Having read this review, John & I (I’m MaryJo, by the way) keep wondering how we so missed the signs that these guests were disappointed with their accommodations. After the fact, of course, there is little we can do but extend our sincerest apologies but please know that when someone makes a decision to spend their hard earned money, especially in this economy, and their scarce free time at Hidden Lake, John & I are willing to do most anything to ensure that they have an enjoyable and relaxing time. In this situation, we would have been happy to offer them a pillow or foam topper for the bed or even a change in suites. Assuming that the early morning noise was the shower going (it’s difficult to muffle water noise) ... we could have showered in another bath. We do note on our website that the Wine Country Suite is adjacent to the Main House so that guests know they are sharing our home with us but we obviously have to give more consideration to our noise level in the future. We also footnote that the king size bed is really two twins. The two twins allows us to separate the bed when requested for those not wishing to share a bed. The frames are bolted and the mattresses are strapped to ensure they do not separate. There is a wool bridge running down the middle of the bed to compensate for the join, a quilted king mattress pad on top and, of course, king linens. After 15 years, however, we know that the best suggestions come from our guests, so be assured that we will take some action to ensure the comfort of future guests.4.8 out of 5Anniversary weekend B & B review
