Our classic Galena Bed and Breakfast has been known for its hospitality since the 1850's entertaining such figures as U.S. Grant and Abe Lincoln. Today, guests gather each morning in the formal dining room, where a full, hot breakfast is served enhanced by candlelight and great conversation. Pastries are available to guests all day and join us for evening wine and cheese.
For indoor relaxation, guests can enjoy the double parlor. A large fireplace, music, period antiques and comfortable sofas offer a space for reading, relaxing, playing cards or just visiting friends, new or old. We offer a guest library with TV/DVD, refrigerator stocked with beverages and complimentary wine and cheese each night.
Cozy and inviting with original 1845 plank floors, angled ceiling and small fireplace, the Aldrich room beckons those looking for quiet times together surrounded by a sense of the home's authentic heritage. Complete with original clawfoot tub, brass shower and unique oak sink, the private bath completes the experience.
Clara's Room: Named for the wife of R.H. McClennan, This enchanting room, decorated in pale mauve and cream overlooks our lush garden. Clara features a Victorian walnut dresser, a queen size bed with beautiful carved headboard and full private bath.
Dr. Edward Bench Room: Just what the doctor ordered… a queen size brass bed, oak dressers, and extra single brass bed for third person. Bright and sunny with a park view, large private bath and shower. Minimal extra charge for third person.
The McClellan room, the original master bedroom, overlooks the gardens and grounds where U.S. Grant once trained his northern troops. Retaining the grandeur of times past, the imposing oak bed is softened by a cloud-like silky canopy. The large corner fireplace creates warmth and majesty. Boasting the largest bath in the home, it includes an original oak pull chain toilet, clawfoot tub, "the best soakers ever made" and brass shower. This room exudes romance, gracefullness and elegance.
J. Russel Jones Room: If you look through the trees, you can see Jones’ masterpiece, the Belvedere Mansion from the windows. This romantic room features a queen size antique white iron bed, walnut dresser, fireplace and private bath with shower.

Situated on a quiet street, surrounded by the grounds Ulysses Grant once used to train his troops, the Aldrich House depicts Galena as it was in the time of grand soirees and celebrations often held in the home for U.S. Grant and Abe Lincoln. This 1845 Greek Revival home has five gracefully appointed guest rooms all with private baths. A screened side porch overlooks the gardens and provides a warm weather haven for those seeking relief from the stresses of city life.

Our weekend at the Aldrich Home was outstanding in every respect. The house is spectacular, very well kept, the food outstanding. We would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to stay during their stay in Galena. The Innkeepers were most gracious and helpful.

5 stars across the board... and we mean it! Everything I could review was exceptional, but the warmth and friendliness of Fran and Brian outdid everything else. (See our review www.facebook.com/EischenPhotography.) We were told that once you stay at a B & B, you'll never go back to a hotel, but we never expected such pampering. This was our 15th anniversary stay, and they made us feel like kings. But the longer we traveled through town, the sooner we discovered that this was no secret to the merchants, as everyone had nothing shy of the highest admiration for Fran and Brian and their beautiful home. Everything was immaculate, tasteful, overly comfortable and amazingly affordable. But please, find out for yourselves the next time you're traveling to beautiful Galena. :)

B&B's at their finest for the Aldrich house! The best part besides the amazing hosts and the room was the breakfast! LOVED their food! A warm bed, a hot shower, and a delicious breakfast! :-) What more could a person ask for? We'll be back for sure! We love the charm of an old Victorian home!

Our recent visit included a one-night stay in Clara's Room as part of a quick Valentine's getaway. (On a previous visit we stayed for two nights in the Cyrus Aldrich Room.) Fran and Brian are simply exceptional hosts who warmly welcome you into their home and provide both clean, relaxing rooms and delicious breakfasts. Not to mention the B&B's proximity (i.e., walking distance) to downtown/main street shopping and dining, Fran and Brian's willingness to provide activity and/or dining suggestions as needed, and the serving of homemade cookies for an afternoon or evening snack. In our opinion, the overall value one receives for staying at the Aldrich Guest House cannot be beat!
