Situated on a quiet street, surrounded by the grounds Ulysses Grant once used to train his troops, the Aldrich House depicts Galena as it was in the time of grand soirees and celebrations often held in the home for U.S. Grant and Abe Lincoln. This 1845 Greek Revival home has five gracefully appointed guest rooms all with private baths. A screened side porch overlooks the gardens and provides a warm weather haven for those seeking relief from the stresses of city life.

It was not our first time to Galena, but we were very pleased that we chose this B+B. It was a pleasant walk to downtown, the neighborhood was quiet, and the hosts were gracious.

Fireplace not working but not informed beforehand - disappointing! Would have been an easy fix for the owners.
We were very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. Unfortunately, unless our guests tell us that something is not working, we cannot remedy the situation, as was the case in this instance. A week later a guest did mention it and we checked it out, turned out the unit was not fixable and we've now installed a new fireplace.

I will definitely be staying at Aldrich Guest House if I'm ever in Galena again. Fran and Brian were amazing hosts. You couldn't find nicer hosts if you tried.

The hosts were very kind and friendly, the room was very quaint (we had the largest room in the house and even it wasn't exactly large), and the breakfast was outstanding! The fireplace in the room was electric, so not what I was expecting, but actually worked out quite well to heat the room quickly and keep it warm and cozy all night. It was about a 10-15 min walk to main street, which I wouldn't have minded excpet that at night back to the house, it was a little spooky and very cold! My ONLY complaint was that one of the Inn Keepers apparently didn't believe the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. I would go back again though.
