"Best in the City" - Chicago Magazine. Ruby Room Hotel & Spa is one of Chicago's most unique overnight destinations. Just 8 minutes from downtown, in the heart of historic Wicker Park's restaurant, shopping and nightlife scene. Modeled in the European tradition, Ruby Room is neither a hotel nor a traditional B&B. Our concept is that of relaxation. By design, we do not offer telephones or televisions. We do not offer 24 hour reception or bellman services. We make a practice of not entering your room during your stay, unless requested. Ruby Room is a historic property and does not offer an elevator. Please keep this in mind, if you or any of your guests have a challenge with mobility. What we do offer are outrageously comfortable pillow top mattresses with 500 thread count linens, large marble and glass showers, 4 of which are equipped with commercial steam units along with complimentary AVEDA products. Crown molding and fine woodworking throughout. Modern furniture peppered with antiques, new community kitchen, gorgeous garden with waterfall and all a part of a day spa, hair salon, yoga studio, two retail boutiques, 5,000 square foot health club and a serene healing sanctuary. If you're looking for something super clean and relaxing, we offer a restful room attached to a unique spa in a super cool neighborhood. Your peace is our passion.

The room was nice but did not have a reading area as advertised. Bed was very comfortable. Outside door to building was never locked. Great location with lots of interesting shops and restaurants.
4.4 out of 5Stayed there to run the Chicago Marathon
October 11, 2012
I read a bunch of reviews before settling on the Ruby room. The reviews were either very good or very bad. After staying there I can understand why. The Ruby Room is not a typical hotel, its very boutiquish and quite unusual. If a patron is expecting a 15'x30' room with two queensize beds, a TV a night stand and a desk, this place isn't for you! I came to Chicago to run the Marathon last Sunday. I didn't have a problem with the stairs. When we walked in the room the first thing out of my wifes mouth was "this place is great, you done good picking this one." The room was very comfortable, large enough for my gear and all our clothes, The steam shower was fantastic. the bed was comfortable. Coming from a construction background the renovations were well done. The location was perfect, the blue line was only 6 stops to the centre of town, which was excellent for getting to the start of the marathon and also wonderful for doing sight seeing on the other days we were there. I really liked the neighbourhood, very hip. For coffee Caffe Streets was awesome, the people at the Alliance bakery were brilliant, we had two great meals steps from the Ruby room. The Tappas place was very good and a couple of blocks up the street Prisano was excellent. In summing up DONT GO THERE IF YOU WANT TO STAY AT THE Marriot or the Sheraton. If you have a physical disablity probably not the best place either. if you are looking for a cool, quiet, clean, reasonably priced place to stay this would be a good choice. By the way ran my best marathon ever.

We love staying here at the Ruby Room. The rooms are clean and peaceful. The staff is friendly and the spa is beautiful. The location is conveniently located just a few blocks from the blue line and loads of great restaurants are within walking distance or a short "L" ride away...can't miss the Bongo Room for breakfast! Thank you again Ruby Room and we hope to see you again soon! :)

My husband and I had a wonderful time! The Ruby Room was calm, clean and relaxing. The staff was professional and pleasent. Sarah made us feel welcome and explained how the Spa could enhance our 2 night stay. My favorites: the steam shower (looove!!) the fluffy King sized bed and the almond croissants from the bakery across the street. Heaven! We will be back.

November 11, 2011
Pros: - awesome steam shower - super comfortable king size bed - quiet with no television or phone (perfect to get away from it all..) - located in a great neighborhood with plenty of shopping/dining to choose from Cons: - no breakfast (but there is a kitchenette stocked with coffee!) - no designated parking (just street parking) - steep spiraling staircase
4.4 out of 5Loved it!

I loved the ruby room inn! There is a yoga room on the 2nd floor and a spa downstairs! Amazing!
4.0 out of 5Quiet, private self serve inn.
October 23, 2011
The Ruby Room is a small inn in a hip neighbourhood in Chicago. $12 cab ride will get you downtown, and $15 to McCormick Place. It is not a B&B, as there is no breakfast available. You do get a very comfortable king bed, modern shower bathroom, and access to a small kitchen. The spa of the same name next door serves as the front desk, resulting in limited hours of service. They do have plans for out of hours arrivals and departures. A yoga studio on the second floor has drop in classes and the spa is full service. Grabbing a breakfast across the road was a ritual during my 4 night stay. I would stay there again and recommend it to others.
4.2 out of 5A wonderful weekend stay in a fantastic neighborhood
October 15, 2011
My wife and I were in Chicago for a weekend, and we loved the Ruby Room. The room itself was large and comfortable, with amazing sheets and a very comfortable bed. The shower was large and the water was hot. There is no tub, just a large walk-in shower, outfitted with a steam-bath feature. The neighborhood is fantastic. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shopping along Division (Mana, a vegetarian restaurant across the street, was a favorite). The staff do not enter your room during your stay, but if you need anything (new towels, change of sheets, etc.) you can leave a note in the hallway and they will see to it. We appreciated not being bothered by housekeeping staff during our stay. The kitchenette (no dining area, tho) is well-stocked with dishes, pots and pans, so one can make coffee, toast, or even more complicated meals if one wants. There is a market just down the block that would supply basic necessities. Each floor had a portable clothes steamer, which we appreciated, as our fancy clothes were wrinkled from being packed in our luggage. It worked great. Our room did not have a TV (and we assume that's true in the other rooms as well). We liked that fact, but others may find that a negative feature. It's a steep climb up stairs to the rooms (they are on the 3rd and 4th floor), so those who have trouble with steps will probably not enjoy the stay. There is a back garden, which we enjoyed, but the waterfall was far too loud. Perhaps it can be made more gentle? Our room was near the kitchenette on our floor, and that made things a bit more noisy than we would have liked. For the most part, other guests kept quiet, but the walls can be a bit thin, and there is little to no noise-dampening in the hallways, so we were slightly disturbed from time to time by the noise of other guests. But it was not enough to ruin our stay--not by any stretch--and we would definitely stay here again.
