Swans Court is located on a quiet street in the historic district within walking distance of downtown. Photographs of the family that owned the house for 86 years dominate the entrance hall. Pieces of their furniture grace every antique-filled room. A screened-in porch provides a restful place to read. The swan motif is carried out in a variety of ways, including hand-carved decoys in each bedroom. The first floor bedroom has walnut Victorian queen-sized bed made for a governor in the late 1850's. The Eastlake master bedroom is large enough for a sitting area. The two smaller rooms share a bathroom (robes provided). One of them has a canopied bed from the Civil War era and the other a 3/4 size ropebed. All the beds have custom-made mattresses. Guests enjoy a full breakfast, often centered around clafoutis, a concoction of cream, eggs, almonds and fruit.
