We stayed at this B&B for the first time in October 2011. When looking for B&Bs on the internet we were kind of surprised to find Machesney Park/Rockford as the locale since I never pegged that area as a B&B type area. Wow, was I wrong! We were in the Getaway Lodge and stayed in the Timber Suite. Even though there are video clips of each of the rooms on the website, the videos did not do the room justice. It was huge, comfortable with a spectacular view and the adjoining private porch with the hot tub was great. Even though you are super close to local eateries and entertainment, you really feel like you're "away" from everything with the property being right on the river, and set back from the road. Patty was incredibly friendly and helpful. Maybe it's just me, but there's always that question mark when staying at a Bed and Breakfast. I mean, you're there in someone's home. Will it be awkward? Private? Uncomfortable? It was definitely not awkward or uncomfortable and we were in our own little world. And in the morning, breakfast was AMAZING. Patty said to come hungry and we listened, much to our delight! Both the food and conversation around the breakfast table were awesome! It was so nice to have our room and stay be romantic and private and a bit secluded from the kids and stresses, but then have a nice friendly conversation-filled breakfast. We would definitely return again and would highly recommend to others.

    Innkeeper Response
It feels really good when a guest enjoys the breakfast table conversation. Sharing stories and smiles is fun for everyone and, to this innkeeper, an important facet of the B&B lodging experience. Thanks for telling others how very special it was for you! Your kind compliments are much appreciated!

My husband and I recently went to visit our daughter in Illinois it is the first time we had been there. I did not want to stay in a Motel because of past bad experiences with cleansiness . From my first phone conversation with Patty to make reservations til the end of our stay I have never been so happy and felt so relaxed. It was beautiful and I will choose B & B again. It was like our home away from home. Donna and Les Binion

    Innkeeper Response
Oh, how I LOVE it when a first time B&B guest says they have been converted to our style of lodging...Very best compliment I can ever get is to "turn" a hotel guest into a confirmed bed and breakfast aficionado! Your comments are sincerely appreciated!

Two Inns in one location really, and both are lovely, quiet, relaxing. Patty is a great host, knows when to pamper and when to provide quiet space. If you want to be close to nature but still sleeping in style this is a good choice. Terri & Dave Erickson

Thanks for your kind words...They are appreciated! Next time you come, we'll definitely have to pick a little bluegrass music together!

We had a wonderful stay in the Bordello room. Love the porch and the view of the river. Patty and her husband took good care of us. Patty's breakfasts were lovely and superb! My parents live in Rockford and felt they were on a getaway when they visited us at the River House. It was quiet, relaxing, and welcoming. We're very glad we chose to stay here.

We stayed in the Frontier Suite and the room itself was beautiful and very clean. Snacks and soda were provided free of charge and every consideration for us was made beforehand. The B & B sits right beside the river, and the view was beautiful! The owners made us a two-plate gourmet breakfast in the morning and man, can she cook! Delicious! Can't wait for our second stay!

It's so wonderful when guests come to stay, smile and enjoy, and then tell others...THANK YOU! You are the reason why I love being an innkeeper!
