The Masonry Heater is the most energy efficient type of fireplace. It is located on the lower level of the main lodge where guest can relax.
The Makanda Inn welcomes you to Southern Illinois. Our inn is extremely comfortable and built to be in-sync with the local environment with many forms of natural building exhibited.
Relax in our lounge area. Enjoy a glass of wine after touring the Southern Illinois countryside or touring the local wineries, shops or great state parks.
Enjoy the backyard area, gardens and nature as the Makanda Inn is right in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest. Giant City State Park borders the inn on three sides.
Each room features a very comfortable bed, TV/DVD player, desk/chair and the strawbale sofa bench you see in this photo.
A desk for writing (or work - ugh) and a sofa bench for relaxing. You can also go outside your patio door to enjoy the birds and other goings-on in the woods.

We are located in Shawnee National Forest adjacent to Giant City State Park and only 8 miles from SIU. Four rooms all feature plush king sized beds, walk in showers, Flat Screen TV’s, DVD players, iPod homes and private balconies. Check out our recently opened cottages as well.

Cancellations: Cancellations will result in a cancellation fee if received less than thirty (30) days before your scheduled stay. The following charges: Cancellations received twenty-nine (29) days to fifteen (15) days, prior to the check-in date, will forfeit the room deposit held. Cancellations received fourteen (14) days to seven (7) days, prior to the check-in date, will forfeit the room deposit and a fee equal to 50% of the remaining balance will be charged against the credit card on file. Cancellations received less than seven (7) days, prior to the check-in date, will forfeit the room deposit and a fee equal to 100% of the remaining balance will be charged against the credit card on file.

Directions from Interstate 57 Southbound (this is the scenic route through Giant City State Park) Take Exit 45 for State Highway 148/N. Refugee Rd Turn LEFT and go 2.7 miles to Grassy Road turn LEFT (there is a country store at the corner) and go 4.3 miles to Spillway Road turn LEFT (be careful not to miss this turn) and go 4.4 miles to Giant City Road (a stop sign) turn LEFT and go 3.5 miles to S. Church Street (it’s about a half mile past Giant City Stables) turn RIGHT and go 1.9 miles. You will past a church on the left (the road changes to Baptist Hill Rd) and down a hill to the Makanda Boardwalk. At the stop sign turn LEFT before the tracks. That will be Old Lower Cobden Rd. Go about .5 miles to the inn.
