The cabin was very nice and we really enjoyed having the fireplace to sit around with a bottle of wine. It was close enough to town that we could do sight seeing and shopping, yet not have to stay in a hotel.

We had a wonderful stay in the Chetlain cabin which has room for 6 even though we were only 2. Gobsmacked by its authenticity so for anyone who has any interest in history this is a must. Gorgeous views in every direction. Reminded me of Ireland. Loved the huge fireplace, great hot tub, nice furniture. Windows could used some TLC but I can understand wanting to preserve the cabin in its true form. Cant wait to go back! Tammy is an awesome lady too by the way! So friendly and helpful. If you enjoy Galena you have to stay here at least once!
I'm so glad you liked it!!! Funny you should mention the windows.....if you noticed upstairs, there was one window finished. We started working on the windows this summer and Amelia at the Ryan Mansion "stole" my carpenter to finish her ballroom for ghost dinners!! Priorities are a must in Galena!! We should have all the windows replaced by next fall. The wood is so old it's difficult to make it look authentic without using old wood. We're getting there, a little bit at a time :)

This was our second time staying in the Smith cabin (we stayed there in 2011, as well) and, once again, we loved it! The cabin is cozy and quiet -- perfect for a romantic getaway. My fiance and I were able to relax and enjoy a nice fire, and the jacuzzi was wonderful. We highly recommend this place and hope to come back again!

Great cabins but quite pricey!
Once I get solar and wind power I'll be able to lower prices :)

We were looking for a quaint getaway with a real fireplace. The Jacuzzi tub was a big bonus. Very cute, very clean. Tammy met us for check in and reassured us several times to just call if we needed anything. no onsite dining, but the website made me give a rating. Very quiet and certainly a break from the standard room. Would recommend to anyone and would certainly come back again!

I'm not one to leave a comment or review for internet purposes. After reading so many reviews, it's apparent that the only people leaving comments are the ones that were totally jacked about the experience, or had a particularly bad experience. The majority of people - in this instance people who were looking for a semi-rustic, staying-in-a-log-cabin experience, with a fireplace, hot tub and history, are perfectly satisfied with the experience and don't leave a comment. So, here's my review. The people were friendly. The cabin was quaint, clean, and rustic. It was exactly the experience we were looking for. A great way to get away. I would recommend it to friends - in fact, I already have. If you're looking for amenities - a pool, spa, room service - you need to go to a hotel or resort that provides those features. If you want a unique, spend-a-weekend-in-a log-cabin experience, Allen's is a great place for that! -Doug Gaster

This stay was just as romantic as it was when my wife and I stayed 17 years ago. We had a great time! Will visit again.
