Grant and Abraham Lincoln. Experience the livable elegance that is created when intuitive yet unobtrusive service meets luxurious surroundings. Last weekend, six of us spent a girls' weekend celebrating our Mother's birthday and couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Robert and Douglas are the perfect hosts, welcoming us the minute we arrived and looking after our every need throughout the weekend. They are professional, fun, witty, charming, genuine and down to earth. Their passion for their inn is evident in their fine service and all the improvements they have made since purchasing the inn last year. The house is filled with history and, upon arrival, we all enjoyed learning about the life of this stately house from Robert. All of the newly renovated rooms are light and airy and thoughtfully decorated with gorgeous colors, fabrics and artwork. It will be hard to choose which one we will want to stay in the next time we visit! The common areas are filled with lovely pieces of furniture and the dining room was beautifully set for breakfast each morning. Breakfasts were tasty and nicely presented. Each afternoon, Robert and Douglas host a cocktail hour with wine and hors d'oeuvres. The weather was beautiful on Saturday so we all gathered for drinks in the charming screened-in porch overlooking the grounds. The location of the inn is perfect... away from the busy downtown but within walking distance. Robert and Douglas gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing. The Tri-State Trolley historical tour was great. We highly recommend this beautiful inn and wish Douglas and Robert much success and the very best of everything. We can't wait until our next visit! Kate & Julie
Hello Kate and Julie! It was so wonderful having you celebrate Ruthie's birthday with us! We loved getting to know you and your family and to be able to provide a home base for everyone to be able to enjoy Galena and everything it has to offer. Thank you for the wonderful review and we're humbled to read how much you enjoyed all of the details from the renovated rooms to the gardens and to the service. We're looking forward to seeing you again in the near future!

Robert and Douglas are welcoming and professional hosts, and you can see their attention to detail and their passion for running their gorgeous B&B in every corner of this amazing house! We went for a mamas' night away and had the entire house, and they truly made us feel at home. They were so welcoming when we arrived and shared their detailed and interesting knowledge of the history of the house and the area while giving us a tour of the house. Each room is styled with respect to the history and comfort of modern conveniences and tastes. The little extra touches (fresh-baked cookies, wine happy hour on the porch, recommendations on area attractions, etc) were much appreciated. Breakfast was elegant and delicious, but not at all stuffy. Such a treat! The house is an easy walk to downtown shopping, restaurants, and historic sites to see. Lovely overnight at a lovely B&B!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with everyone! It was wonderful having you and your friends for a getaway and we're thrilled that you were able to enjoy yourselves so much. It's great to hear how much you enjoyed the little touches and the details that we believe make all the difference. Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to welcoming you all again soon! Robert and Douglas

If you're looking for an escape from the fast pace and relentless noise of Chicago (or any big city for that matter), you have to check out Galena and Aldrich Guest House. Everything about this experience was top-notch and catered to all of our needs. I'm a list maker, so here's a list of my favorite things about The Aldrich Guest House: 1. The history of the house is incredible, and Robert and Douglas do a great job of sharing the stories of past owners. It's sobering to realize that you're staying in the same house that 2 former US Presidents have set foot in, and the hosts have done a fantastic job of preserving the history while seamlessly weaving modern amenities and decor into the fold. 2. Robert and Douglas are excellent conversationalists, and the wine and hors d'oeuvres at 5pm was a great start to both evenings. If you're not into that, there was no pressure. We had the house to ourselves and really enjoyed visiting with them each evening. 3. The breakfasts were both fantastic. Nutella-stuffed pancakes with local pork sausage patties one morning, and baked eggs with Canadian bacon the next morning. Two very different dishes but both were cooked and served impeccably. The Dining Room is beautiful and breakfast was just an all around great treat. 4. Last but not least, the service. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, Robert and Douglas take care of you, even thinking of things you wouldn't have thought of yourself. Their experience in the hospitality industry really shines through. Upon arrival, Robert took us around the house to show us the amenities and gave a brief history lesson. During this time, Douglas took our pretty darn heavy luggage up to our room for us. The morning we left, Robert brushed the snow off of our car. I mean, who does that!? Sometimes I do it for my wife, but only sometimes, and I really love her a lot. That's how intuitive and conscientious these guys are.
Thank you so much for not only taking the time to share such a flattering review, but for staying with us during your visit to Galena! We very much pride ourselves on our intuitive and unobtrusive service and we're glad that you both were able to enjoy it so much. Hopefully we'll see you again very soon...perhaps when the weather is warmer and instead of brushing off your car, we can have wine on the screened in porch! Robert and Douglas

Have never stayed at a B&B, wanted to try it out with my wife during our 20th anniversary. Our trip to Galena (first time as well) was only improved by this excelent house and the warm friendly service from Fran & Brain. Well worth every penny and we stayed in the RH McClellan Room

Our group of three couples met in Galena for a long weekend. I was born in Galena many years ago and spent a lot of time there as a child at my grandmother's (we moved when I was 4) running around town with cousins. So I was taking my wife and four friends down memory lane. The Aldrich House was simply perfect for our weekend. We were able to walk over to Main Street very easily; the breakfasts were terrific; and the proprietors were friendly and very helpful. All six of us were extremely pleased with everything and we would return there in a heart beat.
