We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the historical area of Chicago. We felt very safe and comfortable. Our hosts went out of their way to make us feel right at home. They even provided transportation every morning to wherever we wanted to go. Our room was very comfortable. Hospitality was superb.

The owners Mel and Angie are very personable and friendly. You immediately feel at home. Mel makes a great breakfast with each morning something different and homemade. The house is a historical journey in itself with photos and memorabilia of the rich African American cultural history of Chicago. I would definitely stay again.

I found the Welcome Inn Manor while looking for lodging close enough to enjoy the Chicago Jazz Festival. The Victorian house is lovely, high ceilings, gorgeous fireplace mantels and the woodwork has been lovingly restored. The innkeepers Mell and Angie Monroe helped me with transportation to the Festival in Millennial Park both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. They hosted a marvelous Sunday brunch attended by guests of the Inn, and longtime friends. Their congeniality and attentiveness was without parallel. Mell helped me rent a bicycle from a neighborhood shop so I could have the bike all afternoon for the price of an hour’s rental of a baby-blue bike on Lakeshore Drive Trail. On the final evening I tagged along with my hosts to a marvelous arts and crafts festival in Harold Washington Park. Welcome Inn Manor is close to University of Chicago and many of the city’s museums. A beautiful home with outstanding hosts. The coffee is ready before you are and the breakfast sausage is the bomb. Don’t miss this!

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we felt like family at the Welcome Inn Manor. Located outside the bustle of downtown Chicago, the atmosphere of this Inn was more like a stay with relatives. Our room was pleasant and quiet,a necessity. Mell and his wife Angie went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, dropping us off in the morning at places we wanted to visit, helping us with restaurants and providing guidance since we were first time visitors to the city. This is one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in during our travels and it is highly recommended.

This was our second stay at Welcome Inn and it was just as good a choice as the first time. This time, Mell may even have excelled himself as a breakfast chef.

Everything was fabulous. The host and hostess were awesome, breakfasts were amazing, they would not let me out the door without a warm meal in me in the morning. Mel would go out of his way to drop me off downtown first thing in the morning and was gracious enough to get me to the start of my race early in the morning. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the bathroom was big and clean with all of the little extras. There was so much comfortable space to lounge around in the parlor and the back sitting room. The place was perfectly air conditioned as well as having beautiful ceiling fans to keep the air circulated.

This is the BEST Bed & Breakfast I've ever visited. The service, food and room were outstanding. I highly recommend the Welcome Inn Manor!

Inn Manor is a very nice B&B, refurbished with love by it's owner Angie & Mell Monroe, at the Southside of Chicago in Bronzeville. If you are interested in a well-preserved historical building, hospitality, a good breakfast and if you like to meet nice People from all over the world, that's the place to go.

My wife and I spent a long weekend here recently and thought this was one of the best city locations we’ve ever stayed– even comparing with five star hotels. We had a chance to be close to the ground in South Side (Bronzeville) Chicago – half way between the University of Chicago (we were visiting a nephew) and downtown (which is amazing) -- and feel ourselves surrounded by local culture. Mell and Angie, the owners, were welcoming and great hosts. The house is a newly removed old mansion. Our suite – the Nate King Cole room - was extremely large, clean, and tastefully designed with outstanding Afro-American art. The furniture and such amenities as a sauna were fantastic. We asked to see some other rooms for fun: the Rosenwald and Alinsky rooms were equally artistic in design. The owners made us feel at home and made themselves available for any questions about getting around Chicago and the local culture. Breakfast was a feast, mouth-watering and delicious. We didn’t need anything until dinnertime. Our needs as vegetarians were catered to gracefully and perfectly. One morning a guest jazz musician from Kansas sang Stormy Monday and Autumn Leaves during breakfast. I felt lucky to be down-home in Chicago. Guests come from all over. Discussions were wonderful at the table. One of the great things about this BnB is that it is located in a gentrifying black neighborhood. We felt the culture’s inner strength and emergence. Public transportation was fine. Cabs at night weren’t expensive. On Sunday morning I realized that I could hear a gospel service and walked a few blocks and had a wonderful time. This BnB was an important reason that I enjoyed our visit to Chicago. This place is an oasis and special treat.

Our hosts were amazing and helpful as we planned our stay in Chicago. The food and hospitality were excellent. Our room was delightful, but a bit cluttered (all lovely!). Also we received no daily freshening of our room/bathroom. We stay again.
