Feeling The Vibe

3.4 on September 02, 2015

I chose the Old Chicago Inn because I was coming to town to catch a Cubs weekend home stand and I wanted to be within walking distance of Wrigley Field to really get a feel for the Wrigleyville neighborhood. The last time I came to Chicago for some Cubs games I stayed in a 4-star hotel near O'Hare and commuted to the games. It was fun but a bit antiseptic so I was looking for a "full emersion" experience this time. Also, this time my wife for a romantic long weekend get-away. The innkeeper, David, was very helpful with our need for an early check in due to the start time of the game. He also had several helpful suggestions on how to navigate the city when we went sightseeing. The building is a turn of the century greystone in the middle of a historic neighborhood. There is a neighborhood grocer next door to pick up drinks and snacks for the games (much cheaper than buying inside the stadium). There is an el train station 1 block away and most importantly, there is a Giordano's Pizza restaurant 1.5 blocks away. The room was generously sized with hardwood floors and attractive, period correct furniture. Yes, the bathroom was about 20 feet down the hall but it wasn't a huge inconvenience (2 baths on the hall so no waiting). The floors would creak a bit but that's part of the ambiance I was looking for. We came wanting to feel like we were part of the neighborhood for the weekend and really got the vibe for what it's like to live in Wrigleyville. This was a much fuller experience than a Marriot and 25 minute drive.

Great place to stay if Wrigley is your park!

Awesome place to stay and take in some games at Wrigley park, easy walking distance with some great bars/food along the way, or right around the corner pickup the RED line train right to the ballpark!

I Loved Old Chicago Inn!

We had a wonderful experience at Old Chicago Inn. The room was small, but comfortable and clean. It felt very homey. The service was really generous and kind. I know the next time we go to Chicago we will be staying at Old Chicago.

Excellent B&B

David is a very knowledgeable and friendly innkeeper. Having never been to Chicago, he helped us with various directions to get around the city, as well as activity suggestions. The entire building is very beautiful, lots of woodwork. The morning breakfast was held in the speakeasy downstairs, which is open Thursday evening if you bring formal attire. In all, we had a very comfortable stay, and will likely stay again if we plan another trip to Chicago.

Grea Location!

4.0 on June 09, 2015

Stayed in rom 3A. It is worth the added cost if space is of interest. Many of the other rooms are much smaller. The inn might consider new beds. I would have given the room a "5" expect the mattress was a little uncomfortable. OK for me, but my husband had a sore back the next day. David (host) was very gracious and breakfast was wonderful - homemade breads, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal and granola bars. Plenty to start the day. The location is ideal. Less than a block from the train and in an area with plenty of restaurants to walk for lunch/ dinner. Nice part of Chicago. I will definitely consider staying here again!

Weekend at the Old Chicago Inn

3.2 on April 30, 2015

The location was perfect for me. The room was small and clean. The bed was comfortable; I appreciated the chair and reading lamp. David was very friendly, accommodated my special request and made sure I had everything I needed. My visit to Room 13 was fun and interesting. Luke and Tammy, the bartenders, shared great information about the classic beverages while mixing efficiently!

Weekend in Lakeview

We enjoyed our stay at the Old Chicago Inn. It was convenient for everything we wanted to do. Great Restaurants, Lincoln Park and fun walking in the area. We enjoyed the homemade coffee cakes and friendly conversation with other guests and the Innkeeper at breakfast. We also enjoyed going to Room 13 a Speak Easy Bar with Prohibition Cocktails
