I have stayed with David and Charlene TWICE already, and I am about to make a third trip!! I took visiting family on each visit to experience the power and the beauty of the volcano land. The first time I met Daivd and Charlene, they felt like family almost immediately! It was fascinating to see Green Energy at work in their home, and the lava flow excursions were just awe-inspiring. Each visit was an educational trip, that left each of us a different perspective and a deeper respect for the volcanoes, the ever-changing land around, and the beautiful people who embrace the life on volcanic landscapes!

    A great and unique B&B

We stayed for just one night and wished we could have stayed longer. The location, though admittedly unique, was fantastic. David our host is a gem and visiting with him for the duration of our stay was a real treat. I have to say I was a little anxious about staying so close to the active lava flow, but it was absolutely the best experience. We could see the flow from the deck and at night the active areas were lit up on the pali and on the flats in front of us. We were completely safe and experiencing one of the most amazing feats of nature....creation of new land. David took us on a lava hike in the morning and we were within just a few feet of the flow. All this within 1/2 mile of his home. The tour is not included with the room rate, but is well worth it. David is a special guy and makes the whole experience of staying there even better. We highly highly highly recommend it.

    A must stay!

We just finished a one night stay with David & Charlene at LavaBeds! What an experience. The home is beautiful and unique, with so many hand crafted and artistic touches by David & Charlene. We enjoyed the tour around their property to learn about all the different plants they are growing in the lava (with the help of a little dirt) and also about the green energy used to power the home! Breakfast was wonderful! Charlene's grandmother's waffle recipe is the best I have EVER had! The inn has only one room and it makes for a very personal experience with such gracious hosts. David's hikes to the lava flows are an adventure as well so make sure you take advantage of it!
