Nice place to stay. I would recommend it to those who would like a nice place to stay away from the downtown activity. The guest house is surrounded by locals, so you do get barking dogs and crowing roosters. The garden is beautiful and made it a little oasis. The owners were very helpful and accommodating to requests.

We stayed in the Hibiscus room for 5 days and were pleasantly surprised. Nanette and Anne went above and beyond to ensure our comfort with a "welcome breakfast" in the fridge the night we arrived, providing lots of tourist info for us (including many recommendations), and friendly hospitality. The room itself has a wonderful environment giving one the feeling of being in a jungle house while in a neighborhood that is only minutes from downtown Kailua-Kona, the airport, and the Hawaiian Belt Highway. This was extremely convenient as we were able to minimize time stuck in traffic and maximize time at the sites themselves. We toured all of the north, west and south of the island while staying at Bears' Place without having to spend a lot time driving. I would highly recommend this guest house to anyone wanting a peaceful, relaxing, stay in the Kailua-Kona area. You will not be disappointed. To note, I had to enter a "dining score" but this guest house does not serve meals (aside from the "welcome package" of fruit, butter, jam, etc that is left in the fridge for your first morning, and the little bowls of nuts, chocolates, etc that they left each day. They do, however, provide everything you'll need to cook your meals. A quick trip to the grocery store, and you are all set to eat.

If I had known that Bears' Place was so beautiful, I would spend there all my week in Big Island!! Anne and Nanette are very nice and willing to give a lot of info and advices. Hibyscus room was great, big and very very clean. We had breakfast in our private lanai, surrounded by tropical flowers, palms and singing birds. The room is equipped with everything you need to make coffee, tea and cook. There are fridge, microwave, electric pan etc. We could cook even pancakes! If you need you can use washing and drying machines. If one day I'll be back in Big Island I'll stay here again, no doubt. Marco

We stayed 3 weeks in the orchid suite and felt very much like home. The kitchen is well equipped. The living/bedroom is spacious, the lanai has a wonderful view. We enjoyed very much sitting there having meals. It is always a few degrees cooler at this spot than at the coast. We found this very refreshing. Our hosts nanette and anne were looking every day at the house, very carring and helpfull for every question.

We stayed in the Hibiscus room on the first floor. The view from the balcony is on a tropical garden with tall banana trees. The breakfast for the first morning is in the fridge . The room is equipped with everything you need for quick lunches but you can hardly cook a dinner since there is no stove and if you want to go to the restaurant you will have to drive down the road for about 8 miles. The B&B is a bit far from the beaches but it is a very nice place and Nanette the owner will give you good advices.
