Enjoyed our stay! Maurice, the cat, greeted our arrival. The room was extremely cozy and roomy. The papaya boat Noel made for breakfast was delicious. The conversations with the fellow guests were very entertaining. What more can you ask for?

This B&B shines in its attention to detail. When we checked in at night, the atmosphere was tranquil. The fireplace in the room was on, and Hawaiian music was playing. Our breakfast the next morning was prepared by the innkeeper, Gary, and was informative and delicious. The papaya boats with bananas, pineapple, lime juice, and yogurt were great treats every morning that do the fresh fruit in Hawaii justice. His other specialty that he made each morning was also wonderful. We enjoyed our morning conversation with Gary and with the other guests. Being able to share experiences, ideas, and knowledge is unique and cannot be found at a hotel. Gary was an entertaining and knowledgeable host. He provided information on must sees and must eats. This B&B is in the rainforest and feels remote. Most nights I went to bed with the sound of the rain. If you're looking for a peaceful, quiet stay this is ideal. Volcanoes National Park is less than 5 minutes away, and Hilo is about 30 minutes. We were sad to leave the B&B but will surely return in the future. Thanks Gary!

We stayed at the Bamboo Orchid Cottage for 2 nights in February 2010. Gary, the innkeeper, provided a great breakfast of homemade waffles, an array of other baked goods, and fresh fruit (papaya boats) every morning. The rooms were wonderful with a large, comfortable bed, a fireplace and a spacious bathroom. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anybody and would love to stay there again.

Although my Wife & I live in Hawaii, we still need time away at least every other month for uninterrupted quality time. I have served in the military for over 28 years and have stayed in accommodations ranging from Bedouin tents to Kings castles world-wide to include South America, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, the Arctic Cap, Central America, and the Caribbean. The Bamboo Orchid Cottage is an average B&B that for some reason is extremely over rated. It is owned by a retired Military Officer who doesn’t actually reside on the property, but lives in Mililinai on Oahu. Without the actual owner residing on the property, the Bamboo Orchid Cottage is seriously missing the small details that set B&Bs apart from one another. The owner of the Bamboo Orchid Cottage has forgotten the true meaning of Aloha like the other 95% of Hawaii’s tourist industry; ‘Aloha’ is not that it’s just another saying in order to empty visitors to the islands pockets. We’ll not return, since there are many other B&Bs who still live by the Aloha Spirit. – John & Dee; N.Shore, Oahu
