We enjoyed our stay at Kalaekilohana. After speaking with a few folks staying at other places in Na'alehu, HI, this is definately the place to stay. Rooms are clean and comfortable (including the bed). Big patio to sit on in the afternoon to read or talk with other guests. Kenny and Kilohana make it a point to spend time talking with the guests and sharing the Hawaiian culture. The gourmet breakfasts are outstanding with a Hawaiian flare. Take the short drive down the stree to the Southern most point in the United States and watch the cliff divers jump into the ocean - what a treat. Leaving you will have the lasting memory of Kenny and Kilohana standing on the porch waving good bye until you get all the way down the driveway onto the highway.

We stayed at Kalaekilohana as part of the Perfect 3-way Stay package. Located on South Point Road, I estimate it is the southernmost B&B in the US, as such we were able to explore this area of the island to the fullest. Kenny and Kilohana were wonderful hosts creating a relaxed atmosphere. The huge lanai in front is the most popular part of the house – both for the delicious breakfasts (yum!) cooked by Kenny and for evening conversation accompanied by a glass of wine after busy days of hiking around the volcano, visiting the green sand beach, making a lei with Kilohana (well worth adding to your schedule) or snorkeling. Our room was decorated in a relaxing blue with a huge walk-in shower. The bed was comfy and the quilt perfect for the cool evening breeze. They thoughtfully had every kind of extra you could need and large bottles of shampoo and conditioner. The hand soap was locally made as were many of their offerings: honey, bread, Ka'u coffee, fruits and veggies from the local farmer’s market, paintings of flora and fauna done by a talented local artist. The old plantation style yet modern home is designed perfectly for both us the guests as well as the innkeepers. We were able to use the self-service washer and dryer, a very nice feature. Note that reasonably distanced restaurants are simple local fare, not gourmet – and they close a bit early. This is not a high energy bustling place (I don’t see active young children being as satisfied as we were, nor folks looking for “night life”); rather it is for quiet reflection and true relaxation. The evening stars are spectacular! There are no TVs but Hawaiian music played in the music room/library containing a substantial amount of volumes to read on local topics. After the first few hours we got into the rhythm of taking things just a little bit slower and feeling we were in a special place. I highly recommend this B&B for a relaxing experience outside the busy tourist areas.

We stayed at Kalaekilohana for 4 days & 4 nights in March of 2009. It was the most relaxing & pleasant stay. The food was 5 stars plus! Kenny & Kilohana made us feel so welcome & at home. It's a beautiful home with very comfortable furnishings. Enjoyed looking at all the island objects around the house. If I return to the Big Island, I will surly visit Kalaekilohana again. Definately worth every penny. I highly recommend Kalaekilohana. Ron & Julie Hartford - Grand Rapids, Mi
