We were upgraded to the cottage for our stay. It was the perfect little place for us. The breakfasts each morning were fantastic.....fresh and delicious. The cottage was clean, bright and private. The sample body lotions and the snacks were a great addition. We would definitely recommend Hale Lani to our friends. Mahalo, Nella and Patrick

The B&B was located in an average neighborhood. The Lani Studio did not have AC and could get quite stuffy. The food each morning was fresh and well prepared and we enjoyed the homemade breads (esp. the chocolate banana nut bread!). Overall it was a pleasant experience, but I would probably try something new the next time I visit the island.

Ruth and Sandy exceeded our expectations. This was only our second time in a bed and breakfast and we were very pleased with the accomodations. They also provided many special touches to make our anniversary trip special.

    Suburban location, many mosquitoes

A few things to know about the Hale Lani The home is in a suburban neighborhood like any other in the US. It’s like you drove down the street to stay at a friend’s house. Don’t expect a Hawaiian experience. We never saw a mosquito during our week in Kauai (mid-July), but at the Hale Lani we encountered many. This made it impossible to sit outside and our room was invaded when we opened the door to move our luggage in. The house is in a particularly wet area of the island, thus the abundance of mosquitoes. Other items: A TV was constantly blaring from the upstairs porch (Fox News!) The owners have a large, unfriendly German Shepard that barks every time you come in. Expect your room to be entered when you are not there.

    Innkeeper Response
Dear Guest, You review sounds like you were at a different property than the many favorable ones on this site. Perhaps if you had stayed, rather than leave so quickly, you would have enjoyed our hospitality. We do live in a moderate climate, not particularly wet, but tropical, and we have no standing water so perhaps you arrived at that particular time of day, about 30 minutes in the early morning and the same 30 minutes about dusk when all the island bugs come out to enjoy the mild climate. I believe you came from the very dry, hot and dusty part of the island so you were expecting the same ecosystem island wide. I'm also surprised that you considered our dog unfriendly. She loves people and can be found sitting at most doors with a frisbee in her mouth waiting for someone to play. As for the TV noise, we do apologize if it disturbed you. We do our best to make sure our guests enjoy a much more peaceful experience than being right next to another person at a hotel. Since you did not stay, I am confused by your comment that we would invade anyone's privacy. We only enter rooms to change linens and collect breakfast dishes if they are not left outdoors. In over 10 years of operation, we have not heard these complaints. However, since you brought them to our attention, we will be most careful to ensure that our future guests have an outstanding experience.
