    A room with a view!

    February 11, 2013

Melanie's fresh, tasty sweet breads really made our day start off great, along with the nice vartiety of breakfast options provided!. Our Bamboo Room had a great view, the grill enabled us to add variety to our dining, the location was great for us to sight-see the northern and western sides of the Big Island, and the room was clean and nicely appointed. I would definitely recommend this Bed and Breakfast for anyone visiting this part of the Island!

    Hale Ho'onanea Ahhhh Hawaii

    January 21, 2013

This is a very peaceful B & B. The view is fantastic & the sunsets gorgeous. We were comfortable in the Tranquility Suite but, the noise from the suite above is noticeable. Melanie was very friendly & answered any questions we had about the area. Her suggestions were appreciated. We happened to be there when the trade winds were roaring through & a wind warning was in effect. A couple of time I thought the suite above would fly off but, that mother nature. I would recommend this B& B & if I ever return to the Island I would not hesitate to book it again. Mahalo

    Always my 1st choice!

    December 29, 2012

This was my 5th time staying. Melanie, Bruce, and Sumner are so helpful with many unusual requests. I love the location away from the hustle and bustle, but within easy driving distance of everything on the north end of the island. I also love the b-fast basket that can be eaten anytime I want. I usually stay 5-7 days and just relax! Just an FYI - be prepared for the friendly gecko. I had forgotten to warn my friend. They just hang out waiting for crumbs.

    complete bliss

    December 24, 2012

Our room was beautiful with a large bathroom. We had everything we needed there. We enjoyed the fresh pineapple for breakfast. Melanie baked a bread for us each day. We used the bbq and dined on the lanai while watching the sunset. There was very little traffic so it was quiet at night. Thank you for a lovely stay.

    A peaceful, private, country experience

    November 27, 2012

When I arrived at Hale Ho'onanea, I was pleasantly surprised to have such a private experience in the country. The bed and breakfast (at least the Tranquility room) was an entire apartment. It had everything necessary for a stay in Hawaii. Coffee/tea maker, juice and milk, snacks, beach supplies, shampoo and soap, guide books, ice packs, cooler, mini fridge/freezer... it's more than a hotel could provide you. The privacy and peace of the country side makes for a very relaxing morning and evening after a day of exploring. The location was ideal for exploring the Kohala area (Waipio, Pololu) and even the north Kona beaches. The directions to get there were very helpful, and Melanie and Bruce were happy to answer any questions. Sugar ants are only a problem if food is left out or not stored in the refrigerator. I had a wonderful experience at Hale Ho'onanea, and I would definitely stay there again during my next visit!

    Great stay in Bamboo Suite

    November 23, 2012

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Bamboo Suite. Very relaxing and comfortable - great views . The peace was well appreiated after an 8 day circuit of the island, Appreciated the room, the beach towels, chairs and lovely basket of goodies provided each day. Would stay again - longer next time! Can be a little warm, but many fans were provided.

    Radness on toast

    November 13, 2012

This place is a great find. It's got great views out to the sea and it's so far away from the towns and resorts that the stargazing is incredible. The host Melanie is very helpful and she prepares huge and delicious breakfast baskets for you every morning. The B&B is about an hour away from the Kailua-Kona so if you're looking to go out and cruise the bars in the evening this is not the place for you. However, there are some excellent restaurants down the road (Plantation Grill, Blue Dragon) so if you're looking for somewhere to maybe have a nice meal then kick back on your verandah looking at the stars then this place is perfect. The only caveat I would put on the place is that it's quite high up the mountain so it's VERY windy, but if you don't mind that then you'll have a great time.
