Inn Details
Step back in time to a slow, peaceful era of quiet streets, friendly neighbors, and an abundance of flowers and trees. Hummingbird House is located in the small historic town of Lexington, Georgia where everyone makes you feel at home with friendly southern hospitality. The house is one of three antebellum Greek Revival homes that anchor the central historic district. Beautifully decorated and sitting on ten pastoral acres in the center of town, it is a marvelous place to escape for a time away from the fast paced city life. Relax - just sit on the patio and watch the birds and listen to the flowers grow. Walking tours of the district are available if you feel more energetic. Come escape with us soon.

I was attending a family reunion this past weekend in Lexington and Hummingbird was just down the street from where the reunion was held. My room was large and comfortable - two window a/c units and it was hot outside but room was comfortable and clean. The house has much history and Linda shared her scrapbook of pictures with me as well as told me about the house. It's a nice, quiet place to be and breakfasts were really tasty, freshly made and cooked to order. If you're looking for a quiet getaway that's easy going, reasonably priced and simple no frills, this is the place for you.

A charming B&B in a charming town with a charming hostess! I wasn't expecting the bathroom to be down the hall and stairs, but I could deal with it, because the good FAR outweighs the bad in this beautiful treasure of a home. I loved all the antique furnishings, and the framed pictures on display everywhere were wonderful! Even the array of cats added to the charm of this magnificent home. Let me emphasize, I was quite impressed that the house did not have that "old house" musty, mildewy smell to it, it simply smelled CLEAN. Our breakfast was delicious (blueberry pancakes, baked ham, and fresh fruit!) as well. I look forward to the next time we can escape to this new-found treasure.

We stayed in this very old inn just as a place to break up a very long drive home from mountains. Most "interesting" place we have stayed at yet. I get the impression that our extremely large room was the only one with any A/C in that very large house. Great king size bed and mattress. The breakfast included wonderful fresh fruit selection and plenty of it while the main course was just plain French toast with nothing else. The Extra Service Bonus happened when I lost a date/address book outside and did not miss it until far away. Calls and searches finally found this book that was very valuable to me and they mailed it immediately. A real relief. The budget price of $75 included a few minor negatives: tiny 13" TV with satellite connection was difficult to view but not a big deal. Bathroom visits involved a walk down, and then up, stairs outside of room.....14 steps in all. The bathroom seemed clean enough but was tiny and the sink almost did not drain.
Innkeeper Response
We are a bed and breakfast home stay - not a fancy inn and always try to make our guests as welcome and as comfortable as possible. I was out of town during this guests stay but had informed them when they made the reservation that my daughter would be taking care of them. She prepared the breakfast as I had instructed her to do. She served fruit, french toast, coffee and juice. They were there on a weekday and we normally do not prepare as much food then, as week day guests are usually in the area for a meeting or conference and will be sitting a lot or they are passing through and will be on the road sitting in a car and prefer a lighter meal. I measured the TV in this room and it is a 19" screen. Granted, the room is 20 X 20 and it is a distance from the bed to the screen, but we have provided chairs that can be moved to any position for TV viewing. All the bed rooms and the den have air conditioners, but the temps were low and the humidity nil that week, so we had them turned off. We try to conserve as much energy as possible because this 6000 s/f, 200 year old house eats gas, electricity, and money! We don't like to be closed up in an artificial environment unless it is necessary and the kitchen is usually quite cool in the morning. We pull air from the shaded front through the house with a large exhaust fan so there is usually a nice breeze in the hallway. The baths are shared and there are vanities in each room for dressing. When retrofitting an antebellum house in a national historic district it is difficult to add large baths within the original footprint as is usually required. We try to go out of our way to accommodate our guests wishes and did not mind at all searching for this guests lost property and getting it to the post office as quickly as possible.

We booked a few days at Hummingbird House to visit a daughter, who is a vet student at UGA. Linda was a gracious hostess, who was very attentive to us and cooked us a delicious breakfast at whatever time we asked her. She knew a lot about the community and we enjoyed both her and her lovely home. We plan to stay at Hummingbird House on our next visit and feel like Linda is a friend!

My husband and I just returned from a weekend with Linda at the Hummingbird House. We planned to arrive Friday evening around 8, but due to weather arrived at 11. Linda was waiting up for us and made us feel right at home. The breakfasts were great and she gave us great directions to the local towns that we wanted to visit. We will definitely return; I feel that I have gained a wonderful friend!
