The perfect gift for every occasion

  • Chez nous!

A warm and friendly welcome awaits! Our home is full of character and rustic charm and we have tried to preserve many original features. Feel free to relax and roam in our garden at the end of a busy day
Wood burning stove in inglenook fireplace in our lounge. Old oak beams that cross the width of the lounge are also visible. The stone walls of our cottage keep it nice and cool inside when it is very hot outside. In the winter, the stones heat up from the warmth of the fire ~ the glow of oak and chestnut logs burning during winter nights, make the lounge very cosy!
Bedroom number 1: Super king sized double bed (6 feet six inches long X 6 feet wide) [note: this separates into two separate single beds if preferred]. Features: original oak beams and white washed stone wall. This room has its own en-suite bathroom with a shower facility.

Bedroom No. 2: Has two single beds and its own private bathroom with a shower facility.

Both rooms have tea and coffee making facilities.
    For the younger visitor!

A sturdy cot/bed and bedding is also available for those not yet ready for a 'big' bed.
Petit-dejeuner on the terrace. Start the day with a hearty breakfast with croissants and freshly made coffee or tea, orange juice, home made jams, brioche, toast, fresh fruit and cereals. You can also have fresh eggs if our happy hens are obliging! Many pots of afternoon tea and biscuits have also been shared to quote one guest ~ This is the best cup of tea we have had in France!!!. Lots of nooks and crannies for children to discover and enjoy in the garden ~ plus the chickens to feed.
Somewhere quiet to sit and meditate. A lovely place to sit and contemplate ..... or maybe somewhere for the children to run around and let off steam!
The Breton flag being carried by people wearing traditional Breton clothes. Photo taken at the Fete du Cheval, Musique et Tradition a few years ago. You can sometimes see men wearing these hats at Questembert market - a must see on a Monday morning between 9:00 and 12:00! August: The Fete du Pain held in Pluherlin every 15th August will provide you with a chance to see bread being cooked in an outside stove oven. You can also experience some of the Breton culture with celtic music, traditional dancers in Breton costumes and tools, equipment and methods of farming from the olden days!! (Butter making, apple press, corn threshers, loading a cart onto oxen). Children can take part in workshops which have included woodwork, corn dollies and bread bun making. A fun day for all!
You can reach the Nantes-Brest Canal on bike from our cottage. The locks are a beautiful sight! It is even close enough to reach by foot if you prefer walking. We love to cycle to Malestroit, Peillac and Iles aux Pies. However, we have had several visitors travelling on bikes who have travelled along the canal from Nantes to Brest. A lot of repair works have been carried out recently to make this a smooth and pleasant ride!

It is also popular for walkers and you can pass through many small villages and towns en route with plenty of opportunities for refreshments or a nice lunch. Have a relaxing and comfy stay, sleeping in our supersized bed at our home and enjoying a hearty breakfast before continuing your journey. After a very relaxing bath you have the choice of eating out in many of the local restaurants or, alternatively, ask about our menu and rest your weary legs at La Croix Mariee. Picnics also available.
Rochefort en Terre at Christmas time. The whole of the village is tastefully decorated and is truly a feast for the eyes! Enjoy Christmas shopping in this pretty little village. It is full of hidden treasures at affordable prices. All the shop owners will happily gift wrap your purchases for you, making it an even more enjoyable experience. Enhance the experience by indulging yourself to refreshments in the cafes, creperies and restaurants. All of our guests have enjoyed visiting here in the summer and very often make more than one trip!
Rochefort en Terre - Very popular with all our guests! Beautiful arts and crafts shops - original paintings, pottery, jewellery ~ you may be able to see some artisans at work!) and a wide range of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets.
NOTE:
Christmas lights will be on from 30th November 2012 til 4th January 2013. Magical at Christmas time with all the lights and decorations adorning the buildings and streets.

Treat yourself to a weekend of Christmas Shopping! Relieve yourself of the stress of looking for original presents ~ it is a great place with a lovely atmosphere to do your Christmas shopping, with lots of original crafts available and all very reasonably priced ~ gift wrapped for you too!

Lots of places to rest, have a coffee, have a light lunch, or an exquisite dinner and make a real occasion of it.

A friendly oasis in a rural setting

    November 07, 2012

We stayed with Ann & Gerry on the first leg of a long driving tour around France. From the very outset, when Ann greeted us so warmly after we'd driven that day from Paris, we felt at home here. A perfectly restful rural setting, but near two quaint villages (Rochefort-en-Terre and Malestroit) where we had dinner on different nights. We chose this B&B for its location between 2 regions we wanted to visit: the Foret de Paimpont; and the coastal villages and standing stones of Carnac & Quiberon. We weren't disappointed, and we can also recommend the medieval town of Josselin as being well worth a visit. We'll miss our beautiful breakfasts chatting to Ann & her family, and especially enjoyed the wine, cider and great conversations we had with them on our last night there. The perfect touch.

    July 01, 2012

Gerry and Ann welcomed my wife and I very warmly and immediately made us feel completely at home. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and the use of wifi was particularly important to us. Breakfast was excellent and was all the more enjoyable with their delightful company as we sat in their garden to eat before continuing our journey across France. As far as we were concerned they had an edge over many other bread and breakfasts as they provided very important information about things to see and do in the area and that made our brief stay memorable. We highly recommend them,

    Lost In France

    October 08, 2011

After our hire car broke down and we had to wait ages to be rescued in an isolated country road, it was so nice to recieve the warm welcome that Ann and her charming family gave us. She rustled up an inpromptu meal of spaghetti carbonara and a lovely fresh salad from her garden which was just what we needed. I was so pleased to see the comfortable airy ensuite bedroom with the view over the countrside and slept really well. Ann and Gerry could not have been more helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our restful stay.

We so thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you in your very comfortable home. You were very welcoming and we were able to relax completely after an exhausting day. Excellent B&B

    June 07, 2011

We received a warm friendly welcome when we arrived at the B&B, the cup of tea and homemade fruit cake was much appreciated! We were given some good recommendations of where to eat that evening. Breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately we had some trouble with our motorbike, but Ann and Gerry were very helpful, ringing round garages for us, and giving us a jumpstart to help us on our way. A big thank you also to Michael for helping us carry in our luggage! We would definately return.

    Dancing in Rochefort en terre

    September 16, 2010

Although in France, it's a confortable and friendly British BB... a quiet island in the French country, and, surprise, close to a tipycal old French village, Rochefort, and on time for a nice summer event, music, food etc. La Croix is a beutiful stone cottage, nice, clean and well managed. Thanks a lot from Alberto, Maria Grazia and friends

    A nice place to stay.

We had a very nice and quiet stay at this bed and breakfast. Friendly people, who helped us to find the way to a restaurant. The breakfast was great and to much to handle.
