The perfect gift for every occasion
See more La Bigne, France

  • 18th century farmhouse in Lower Normandy, centrally located for D-Day beaches, Bayeux, Mont St Michel, Atlantic coast etc has 3 guest rooms, all with en suite facilities. A home rather than a business, the atmosphere is relaxed & welcoming. The bed linen is cotton, there are flowers by your bed, and magazines and books, and drink-making facilities for those early morning times before we are up. There are no televisions in the rooms (it is not a motel!) but there is wi-fi internet access. There is a network of footpaths on our 14 acres which connect the valley, 2 ponds, the beech wood, the stream and meadows - the perfect length for a pre-breakfast stroll in the morning sun.

    petit coin de paradis

    August 13, 2012

Jos and Carol have done an amazing job on fixing up their French farm house. It was beautiful on the outside and inside. They were extremely friendly and accomidating hosts, who made you feel very welcome. We appreciated the use of their map and directions to nearby towns. Jos was very knowledgeable about the regions history. Breakfast was good, rooms were clean and we would highly recommend La Vauterie if you are staying in the Normandy region. A lovely, restful stay in beautiful, clean and comfortable accommodation

    August 12, 2012

We were met on arrival with tea and a slice of cake in Carol's delightful kitchen. On asking, we were directed to a little local restaurant serving delicious authentic food. After a good night's sleep in crispy clean linen we enjoyed an exploration of the grounds down to Jos's pond and the pretty river and banks. The connection of the property with historical events was of great interest, and we were well-rewarded by its proximity to the Bayeux tapestry. We were surprised how quickly we were able to reach La Vauterie, as it is just off the main route. It sits in beautiful quiet rural grounds. Although children don't normally stay, our's did, and very much enjoyed seeing little children's toys on display, and meeting the farm animals. Carol thought of small touches that made it very special, and Jos was a great source of ideas on ecology. We also appreciated being able to ask questions about 1066 and WW2 history.

Special place, full of details. Like home

    June 11, 2012

Few days were enough to decide that I will be back. Special attention, a house full of details, like one of those houses in magazines. Nice talks, and a feeling of peace and joy. Breakfast was good, and it is centric located. Is a perfect place to relax, after traveling to Mount Saint Michell, or simple have a historic afternoon in Caen. I normally don't right reviews, but this place and their owners really deserved! Highly recommended.

    Wonderful hosts

    August 15, 2011

We spent 10 amazing day in Normandy, with La Vauterie as our home. We chose it for it's location and English speaking hosts, but found a lot more than what we were hoping for: a very beautiful house, with welcoming hosts that became shortly our friends, a lovely kitchen that will offer you a dazzling light during breakfasts (did I mention home made gems, fresh croissants and delightful tea?), wonderful flowers outside, very attracting paths on the property for you to follow and relax. Our stay at La Vauterie was far more than anything we hoped for, and that is mostly due to the family living there, they are wonderful, friendly, educated and will share with you tips for the area at the same time sharing their home. Thank you Carol and Jos for an amazing time, we hope to come back. A & M
