Situated just over the border from Geneva within 30 minutes easy access to the airport and Palexpo for such events as the world renouned Motorshow, Salon du Livres, etc. and near to Annecy, this lovely chalet was a special find more than 30 years ago. Esery is well known for its golf-course, with the wonderful view of the alpine mountain range towards Mont Blanc, both 9 hole and 18 holes, as well as its restaurant. La Thébaïde is one of the oldest houses in the small village of Esery overlooking the Mont Blanc range of Alps. Built in 1916 by a Swiss carpenter, the style is typical of certain areas of Switzerland. The detail in the woodwork both inside and out are to be admired. The living rooms have original larch panelling as well as wall paintings of the epoque, giving a warm interior and cosy atmosphere. The "kacheloffen" is a fireplace typical of mountain regions of Europe, which heats the tiles to maintain the warmth from the slow-burning flames. Breakfast and evening meals are served in the dining-room, and coffee can be enjoyed in the adjoining panelled sitting room which leads onto the garden. Breakfast can be served on the terrace during warm summer months. The spacious bedroom on the first floor has its own bathroom opposite, two singles or king double bed (on request). Each of the two large bedrooms on the second floor has a double bed, with a third bed in the larger room for a family. One complete bathroom with bath/overhead shower, and another separate shower room on this floor are available for these two rooms. The village of Esery is very near to Annecy, as well as many alpine ski resorts of Haute Savoie, including Flaine, Megève, Chamonix, Les Gets, Morzine etc. where many summer mountain activities such as mountain biking, hang gliding, tennis, swimming are provided, as well as many lakes in the area and, of course, plenty of mountain walking. Arriving here was wonderful. We had already been well looked after by hostess Susan, with helpful emails to us in New Zealand, accommodating our family of 5 into two rooms with our own bathroom. It was a breath of fresh air to arrive to such a gorgeous chalet on the outskirts of Geneva, yet to be in the country in such a quiet location. Our kids loved the house and the animals and we were sorry our stay was so short. Also of note, staying here was much better value than any accommdation I could find in Geneva. Susan and Horst were extremely accommodating hosts and I would highly recommend a stay here.

Séjour agréable un peu trop court. Chalet bien placé pour ceux qui aiment le golf qui est superbe (on peut y aller à pied). Possibilités de belles promenades. Nous y retournerons

Directions to property:
A40 direction Annemasse and Geneva. Exit 14 Annemasse and immediately into left-hand lane to follow D2 towards La Roche-sur-Foron. Cross the single-track railway line twice, after 2nd crossing turn R towards Esery. Passing Au Fil des Saisons (farm shop) on your right climb another 2 km to village. After signpost Esery in village, turn R into Rue des Césarges, and after about 100 metres turn R into Chemin de la Thébaïde. La Thébaïde is the fourth house on left, garage in front of entrance. Parking is behind the garage or a bit further into the small close to park beside the garden shed on your right.
