We agree with the rating scale - our overnight stay was outstanding and we would stay here again! A quick tour of the inn and room by Lauren and we were on our way - just steps to the downtown shops. We returned later for evening cookies and tea/coffee and investigated the cozy library and upper porch. Room 2 was perfect for for us and will have to say the comfort of the bed and sheets was the best ever!! Hated to have to get up but the breakfast made it worthwhile!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thomas Shepherd Inn. Ours hosts were very friendly, food was excellent and room was very cozy. My only negative was the noise while sitting on the back porch. The inn sits at a 4 way stop and there was a lot of traffic. Having said this, you could not hear the noise inside the house. The house was very quiet. Also, it was an exceptionally busy weekend as there was an art festival going on, so I think the traffic was unusually high. In addition, it is an easy walk to many great restaurants and shops just blocks away. We will definitely go back.

I've just returned from a wonderful weekend in Shepherdstown, where I was completely spoiled by innkeepers Lauren and Dave at the Thomas Shepherd Inn. The furnishings are exquisite and the location is perfect (on the charming main street, very close to the fabulous Press Room restaurant, and just a 10 minute walk from the campus of Shepherd University). Best of all, the hospitality and food are amazing. Breakfasts include at least two courses: a starter smoothie or soup (apple soup and strawberry soup were even better than the mango smoothie) and then a gourmet baked entree, a side of fresh fruits or vegetables, and a side of local meat. Locally-roasted coffee is delicious and homemade muffins can be taken to go if you don't have room left after your morning feast. Thanks, Dave and Lauren!

The inn was beautifully decorated, very inviting and quite comfortable. The innkeepers treated us more like family so it was difficult to leave when the time came. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Jim and Jeanne really pay attention to detail. They thought of everything to be sure our stay was a truly wonderful one. I highly recommend Thomas Shepherd Inn!

For those looking to visit historic (including Civil War sites) as well as charming places, the Thomas Shepherd Inn is just the right place, located as it is in downtown Shepherdstown West Virginia. The inn itself is comfortable and clean and is worth spending time in the spacious guest parlor. Jeanne and Jim are great hosts, making the guest feel right at home, from the moment one arrives to the time one leaves. Put the Thomas Shepherd Inn at the top of your list.

Once again I was not disappointed with a fantastic stay at Thomas Shepherd Inn. My room was ultra comfortable, my breakfast divine and I did a little shopping within walking distance. Each visit brings me back to their local Thai restaurant Kazu which is always great. I stayed in Room #4 which has two queen beds and a nice wingback chair with lamp for reading. I was also able to order a super inroom massage. Ask the innkeeper about this. If you find yourself in Shepherdstown or neighboring areas like Harper's Ferry, Antietam or Martinsburg - I wholeheartedly recommend this B&B!

Thomas Shepherd Inn is a fabulous place to stay when visiting Shepherdstown or nearby Harper's Ferry. The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. The inn is decorated well and very inviting. We enjoyed dining with other guests over a fine breakfast both mornings. You can park behind the inn and walk to local stores and restaurants within one block, including a small bakery with a case of fresh baked goodies and nice coffee. It is worth stopping in there if just to absorb the aroma in the bakery. We recommend this inn to any and all who enjoy fine lodging in a great location.

At a 4-Way-Stop intersection of US 230 / 480, Railroad a few blocks away, very noisy with traffic at night

We are sorry to hear now that this guest was unhappy with their stay; sorrier still that s/he made no mention of this problem during the stay so that we may have worked to find a solution, such as relocating to one of our two guest rooms that are away from the street. All of our windows have double or triple panes and the clock/radio in each room can provide ‘nature sounds’ if desired. The railroad tracks are ½ mile away on the other side of town, not a few blocks. We can only point to our high percentage of repeat guests and our other reviews as evidence that the noise at night is not bothersome to a great many people. If you are extremely sensitive to noise, please discuss that with us when calling for information or a reservation and we can help you with your choices.

Every year or so, my brother, sister, and I get together for a "family reunion." These mini-vacations are very important to us, so we try very hard to stay at a place that is beautiful, comfortable, and interesting. At our last reunion, we decided to have a Civil War themed vacation. After a lot of research, we chose the Thomas Shepherd Inn. It is a gorgeous B&B, it is near every place we wanted to visit, and the owners, Carol and Ed, are the perfect hosts. What more can you ask for?

We had a wonderful stay at the inn. It's so well-kept, and the innkeepers were very friendly and inviting. The room we stayed in, #1, was absolutely beautiful, and the breakfast that the innkeepers served in the morning was by far the best French toast we've ever had. Our favorite B&B we've ever been to!

The best B&B in Shepherdstown. The Innkeepers were great in assistings us with our every need. Spacious room, wonderful breakfasts, internet access, library and porch to gather with some privacy, within walking distance to all the shops and college, ample parking and very helpful to cyclists to protect their bikes.

My wife and I needed a few days away and we always loved the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia. We luckily choose the Thomas Shepherd Inn for a two night stay. Jim and Jeanne were gracious hosts who were so helpful in selecting places to eat and places to see in the area. The Inn is very clean and well decorated and breakfasts were delightful. The attentiveness af Jeanne and Jim and their staff made us feel like special friends. We would recommend this West Virginia treasure to anyone who wants to get away and relax.

Jeanne & Jim are outstanding innkeepers - their inn, The Thomas Shepherd Inn, is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. They are very knowledgeable about the history of their inn, the town, and the area and directed us to a nearby bakery and local restaurants for our noon and dinner meals. I would definitely recommend this inn to my friends and co-workers - a perfect getaway from the DC area!

My stay at the Thomas Shepherd Inn was everything I could have hoped it would be. The rooms are wonderful and it is just a short walk to restaurants. Traveling on my own I like finding a place that feels like home and Jeanne certainly makes her inn feel like a home. The breakfast was very nicely laid out and delicious. Next time I am on the road to visit my family, I will be sure to stop here again.

There are so many things to do in and around this area and staying at the Thomas Shepherd Inn just adds to the experience. The innkeepers are friendly and out going--Willing to help you make plans for excursions and dining. Breakfast was bountiful and delicious. Rooms comfortable and very clean. I would recommend a stay here for sure.

Everything about the Thomas Shepherd Inn was fabulous! I was fortunate to spend my 40th birthday there with my husband and stayed in the very large yet comfy cozy room #1. I am not a fan of bric-a-brac, clutter, grandma's attic type junk and found this inn to be tastefully decorated. I thoroughly enjoyed the innkeepers personal collection of framed maps found throughout the inn. The hosts Jeanne and Jim did not latch-on or hover around their guests. (Another pet peeve of mine when staying at certain B&B's). After the initial check in tour, they showed us their door and bell to ring should we need anything at all. Very gracious indeed! Thomas Shepherd Inn provides ambiance, romance and privacy you would hope to find at a Bed and Breakfast. Now to dinner - the hosts recommended a Thai restaurant (Kazu Thai) which was within walking distance (as are many wonderful places to eat including a bakery with afternoon treats!). I had perhaps the best Thai meal I have ever had. If you go to Shepherdstown, don't miss this Thai restaurant. Thomas Shepherd Inn is the best place to stay in Shepherdstown or even nearby Harper's Ferry or Hagerstown. We researched them all, drove past a few and were delighted with our accomodations at Thomas Shepherd Inn. It is only a few hours drive from metro DC/MD and worth it! A great place to relax and just 'be.'

We enjoyed our two nights here. The breakfast was excellent - among the best I've had at a B&B. Owners talked with us in the morning for over an hour and were most welcoming. House was very nice, relaxing, and spacious.
