5 sur 5This HAS GOT to be the best!!!!!
juillet 19, 2012
Although there are other rooms that are connected to the main house, we stayed in the back carriage house. And this is truly a house! If you are looking at these pictures thinking this is too good to be true.....you're thinking right! After traveling all over America in recent years, this may be the best place we've EVER stayed in! It has it all......in fact, it is so perfect and so well kept, you are almost afraid to touch or dirty anything! Julie...the hostess.....is outstanding and will do ANYTHING for you. I'm not saying anymore because the more people that find out about this place......the more the chance that when I want to stay there again.....the house will have been taken! :)

This has to be the best location of any B&B in Charleston! The history of this residence is just incredible – one of the most historic homes in Charleston. With a breathtaking view of the harbor and Ft. Sumter, it’s no wonder the wealthiest 19th century plantation owners chose to live here. Julie, our innkeeper, was absolutely superb. Her homemade breakfasts were fantastic – on par with the high culinary standards of the best local restaurants. She took care of our every need, surprising us on more than one occasion. It was the perfect setting for our anniversary weekend!
5 sur 5Fabulous Stay at 21 East Battery
novembre 11, 2010
My husband and I enjoyed 3 lovely nights at 21 East Battery in the section called the Quarters - Charleston, SC. WHAT AN AMAZING LOCATION! The bedrooms and baths were beautiful and immaculate, as was the living area and kitchenette. I cannot say enough good things about the innkeeper, Julie Lucas, who saw to our every need and provided us with delicious breakfasts, along with a stocked fridge and daily homemade pastries - wow. Our stay was Oct. 31 - Nov. 3, 2010. If you love strolling through all of the residential area south of Broad and viewing gorgeous sunrises over the Battery, touring a mansion such as the Edmonston-Alston House, plus being served and attended to daily, I highly recommend 21 East Battery. Thank you, Julie - we had a wonderful time.

Visiting Charleston in the fall combines great weather with lower than usual tourist population. Two weeks at the carriage house at 21 E. Battery was simply the most relaxing way to see South Carolina's most charming city. You can view the images on this website and immediately recognize that the 2001 renovation to the early 19th century carriage house/stable provides the discerning traveler with an authentic southern experience on a narrow peninsula that embodies grace, history and hospitality. The antiques, the art, the cross beams with wooden nails are enhanced by a grand piano, great music system and up to date amenities. Each morning, innkeeper, Julie Lucas, provides freshly cut fruit, still warm bake goods and a breakfast quiche for two. Brew a fresh cup of coffee and sit on the balcony of the carriage house and feel the warm harbor breezes arriving from Ft. Sumter. Every morning presented a varied view of the ships and boats that cruise Charleston waters; mammoth auto carriers from Europe, cruise ships from the Caribbean, the fleet of sailboats from the nearby Charleston Yacht Club, and the ubiquitous luxury yachts from the City Marina. Oh my... Couple that picture with the stately presence of the Edmondson-Alston House, on site, and there is not another B and B in the city that can compare. One last thing; when the daily tours of the main house are finished for the day, pour a glass of pinot and sit on the piazza of this Battery landmark and ask yourself if life can get any better.

4,2 out of 5Special 25th Wedding Anniversary
novembre 02, 2010
My wife and I decided to come to Charleston to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Luckily, we chose 21 East Battery as our place to stay. Our accommodations in the "servants' quarters" were wonderful and quite in keeping with the typical Charleston area's decor. The fireplaces were an especially pleasant and useful feature. However, what really made our stay outstanding was the effort made by Julie (our innkeeper) to make our anniverary special. She went the "extra mile" to add little anniversary touches and provide good advice. We would readily stay there again, especially if Julie is still our innkeeper.
5 out of 5Wonderful
octobre 23, 2010
We stayed in both the Quarters and the Carriage House and were thrilled with both. Loved being on the grounds of the historic Edmondston-Alston House which is on the Battery and a short walk to everything. The inn keeper Julie, could have not been nicer or any more helpful and is an amazing cook. We would come home after touring Charleston to find a delious bunt cake, or a jar of freshly made cookies waiting for us. We hope to return very soon!
4,4 out of 5Very Nice
octobre 21, 2010
The location was great – we were able to walk to all of the activities we did in Charleston. The city is very interesting and walking allows you see things that you simply miss when you drive to your destination. In addition, there is a wonderful view of the sunrise across the street along the waterfront. Our accommodations were on two levels. The downstairs had a sitting area and a galley kitchen that included a table. The upstairs had the bedroom and bath. All areas were nicely decorated and clean. The total space was much more than we expected and much larger than we have experienced in other B and B’s where we have stayed. The breakfast was self-serve. The items, which included homemade banana bread and quiches (all very delicious!), were prepared for us in advance and placed in our room the day prior. We warmed the items that required heating using a microwave and made our own coffee. This arrangement allowed us to set our own morning schedule which we liked. Our innkeeper was very friendly and provided us nice suggestions on what to do during our two-day visit to Charleston. Her wonderful personality was a bonus and added to the great experience we had at this Inn!
5 out of 5Wedding Spectaular
octobre 06, 2010
My wife and I wanted to stay somewhere special on September 18th, 2010, our wedding night in Charleston. We looked around for a cozy bed and breakfast and none compared to 21 East Battery's carriage house; a private single guest home that is absolutely breathtaking. It's a 2000sq/ft apartment located in the back of the main house complete with a full kitchen, dinning area, living room, second floor study and cozy bedroom. It even has a Steinway piano. It exudes everything that makes Charleston so charming ie: it's historic and old, but completely restored, modern, and tastefully decorated. The food was great and Julie the in-keeper was fantastic. She went well beyond the call of duty for us. One of our guests left with our room key! Julie met us at nearly 2am to let us in. we arrived in our room to find campaign, chocolate covered strawberries, and rose pedals on the bed. We will never forget our stay there and plan to return for sure. Kelly & Michael
