5 sur 5A paradise in "El Yunque"
octobre 12, 2010
A recent visit to Puerto Rico, “El Yunque National Forest”, and the “Rainforest Inn” has made a great and invigorating impression on us. Have you read the other reviews? They say it all! Bill and Laurie, our hosts, offer any nature lover and student of eco-tourism a wonderful and enchanting experience, which is unforgettable and truly unique. Harm and I thoroughly recommend a visit to this mystic paradise. We enjoyed not only the excellent hospitality, the quality of the accommodation the surrounding countryside, but also the emotional wellbeing we experienced by just staying there. I would like to share with you a glimpse of that emotional wellbeing: After visiting family on the Island of Vieques, Harm and I decided at the last minute and without researching the area, to explore “El Yunque” in Puerto Rico for a few days. On a recommendation from Inn Keepers, Robin and Marsha Shepherd of Malecon House Vieques, we found ourselves looking for Rainforest Inn as dark was falling. Bill drove down to meet us at the intersection and he led us back up the mountain to their home, the Rainforest Inn. We had no idea what to expect and were pleasantly surprised by the warm reception we received from our hosts and their canine family members, Maya and Bella. What a truly enchanting chalet with all comforts, and most importantly at that moment, a welcoming bed! The songs of the coqui lulled us into a deep and satisfying sleep. We awoke to an incredible sight of mesmerising views stretching all the way down to the sea, peeping through the rainforest foliage. With the most delicious breakfast behind our belts, and an informative conversation with our hosts, we were ready to explore the new and fascinating world around us. From then on things just got better. Come and discover for yourselves! Harm and Jacqueline from the Netherlands/Europe.
5 sur 5Best Place to Stay on the Island to Stay!

Bed and Breakfast can be hit or miss. You might end up in some old ladies spare bedroom and have cereal for breakfast but the Rain forest Inn is so much more than just a place to stay, it's a beautiful secluded spot in the mountains, with the best breakfast, knowledgeable and friendly host plus all sorts of random good stuff like a pool sized fish pond, rain forest trails, and best of all it's only 25 min from San Juan and the Airport in Carolina and maybe 10 min from Luquillo beach. I just got back from staying at the Inn and I had the best and most relaxing vacation I have ever had. I've traveled to Puerto Rico many times since I have so much family on the island and it's such a beautiful place but the Inn is everything I love about the island plus WiFi in your room and it's too high in the mountains of the rain forest for mosquitoes plus it tends to be noticeably cooler and more comfortable than down the mountain. Bill and Laurie are great and know lots of stuff to do like fishing, horse back riding, and rain forest adventures. Right from the Inn me and my friends took a hike through the rain forest to a waterfall on the side of the mountain, right after Laurie made us GINGER FRENCH TOAST! and ginger french toast if you've never had it is reason enough to avoid the big hotels and really see Puerto Rico.

The Bed and Breakfast in Puerto Rico, aptly named Rainforest Inn was our home for a week of once in a lifetime experiences. Nestled on the edge of the El Yunque National Rainforest, Bill & Laurie have created an oasis for nature and animal lovers, as well as those needing to unplug. Though the wireless internet was a familiar convenience . From a 45 minute, slippery-when-wet, 1st day waterfall adventure-hike to a 30 minute drive to Old San Juan, you simply can't find a more centrally located slice of heaven. Speaking of slices, if you decide to make Rainforest Inn your home, try to stay when Laurie's making her delicious version of Stuffed French Toast. Sleeping was very comfortable, with a supportive mattress and clean sheets. If you're a light sleeper, bring some comfortable ear plugs. The melodic chirping of the Coqui frogs may be too loud for some. Like many of the homes we passed on Route 186, Bill & Laurie take full advantage of the rainfall, by collecting it and filtering it for use in their modern-plumbing bathrooms and kitchens. Bill & Laurie currently share their home full-time with Maya & Bella two very friendly dogs, and two cats, Atticus & Ernest, who are friendly and active primarily at night. Speaking of nighttime activities, if you like wildlife, simply walk out your door at the Rainforest Inn and you'll encounter numerous species of frogs, toads, lizards, snails and the occasional small bat, munching on the occasional flying insect. Night hunting can easily be done, using one of the provided lanterns or flashlights, though I suspect they're more for blackout insurance, a nice touch, considering that would be sorely missed if they weren't there in a pinch. To learn more, you'll have to discover for yourself, just keep a mindful eye and an open ear, for Little Miracles can & will be found.

A wonderful surprise in the middle of the rainforest! Friendly and informative innkeepers. Fantastic breakfasts served each morning that included a variety of exotic local produce. Spectacular views! Private and very secluded, very much off the beaten path while still being in a central location to many activities. Definitely for anyone not looking for the "typical" tourist accommodations.

If you are planning on visiting El Yunque, staying in the villa at the Rainforest Inn is ideal. The accomodations are excellent, the food is very good and the view of northeastern P.R. is unmatched. If we return to P.R. we will certainly stay here again.
