We were a group of 4 friends staying for 2 nights and had an absolutely wonderful time.. The house is decorated beautifully and the attention to detail is perfect. Our rooms were comfortable, clean and cozy. Our hosts Diane and Scott were very hospitable and gracious. The breakfasts were delicious and the little kitchenette was just perfect for tea, coffee and snacks. Overall, it was a perfect stay at a beautiful B&B.

My sister and I stayed for three nights over the 4th of July weekend and were delighted with our room, our hosts, and the house. Diane and Scott are friendly and helpful and the house is fabulous. And, the breakfasts were thoughtfully prepared and delicious. I plan to return to the E. J. Bowman House next time I am in Lancaster.

Our stay at the EJ Bowman house could not have been better. The house is a real 1860's gem, beautifully kept by Diane and Scott, who made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. They showed us around, made sure we had everything we needed and even phoned ahead for us to reserve a table at a local restaurant. The suite was easily large enough to accommodate two adults and two older teenagers, both of whom took full advantage of the whirlpool bath, vast DVD collection and the enormous TV. The whole place is spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable indeed. Breakfast was a spectacular three courses (yes, three... :) ) of lovely home cooking. Super place, wonderful atmosphere and kind and attentive hosts. We're very much looking forward to going back again.

I'd like to thank Scott and Diane for not only providing a respite for travelers but a place where one can feel welcomed no matter how diverse their background. My partner John and I might have felt uncomfortable in another BnB if it were not for the EJ Bowman House's LGBT policy. John's first time at a BnB will not be his last. The decor, architecture and history were featured nicely. I can not say enough about the wonderful experience that we had. Please visit them soon. Mark Applegate

I recently stayed at the E. J. Bowman House when I went to Lancaster for a big quilt show. It is a lovely home and Diane and Scott are wonderful hosts. My bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom floor was heated. Breakfasts were delicious and not run-of-the-mill; I could tell a lot of effort was put into the bacon quiche and marinated grapes, and the presentation was lovely. I especially enjoyed the kitchenette that is available to guests for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, snacks, popcorn, and home baked cookies. I will definitely stay here again during my next trip to Lancaster.
In the Murphey Room, the quilts are softly bathed in light lavender from its southeast exposure. Originally two rooms, these have been combined into a cheerful room at the top of a private staircase. Its separate antique quilted twin beds can be made into a king bed. Colonial shutters offer the perfect touch of privacy. This room offers two single beds that can convert into a king size bed. Private Bathroom with shower.

With three generations of the Witmer Family previously residing in the E.J. Bowman House, it feels appropriate to name this room in honor of their legacy. Centrally, located with an enclosed porch to the east and garden views to the west, the Witmer Room is an ideal retreat. The room features a large mirrored oak armoire and soft green walls. A cozy chair is placed in the reading nook that floods with sunlight and views of the gardens and pond. Enjoy. Private bathroom with shower.
Prix par nuit: $130 - $130
Following a day of exploration through Lancaster County’s unique attractions you can relax on the quilt covered pineapple queen bed or log your memories at the antique roll-top desk. The room’s warm tones invite you to relax and enjoy life’s small moments. Like sweet tea on a warm summer afternoon, the Lucinda Mae Room invites you to relax and unwind.
The E.J. Bowman House was once owned by the Hauck family. During this time the bed & breakfast became known as “the big yellow house.” The Hauck room is ideal for all seasons with light control blinds and other comforts. Alice Murphey’s pressed flower art and the soft yellow and blue tines throughout the room bid you drift away. Don't forget that glowing fireplace to keep away that cold winter night.
Prix par nuit: $130 - $130
E.J. Bowman, the original owner of this historic home, would bask in the sunset view of the gardens from the suite’s balcony. This two room private suite features a maxi-king bed, a sitting room with day bed and hidden trundle bed as well as a coffee maker and refrigerator for added convenience. The Tuscan mural that surrounds the Jacuzzi tub, and the stout villa windows beautifully reflect the home’s Italianate architecture.
Prix par nuit: $205 - $205
