Beautiful room, Texas room, wonderful food, and lovely hosts, Tessa and Brian, made for a memorable stay in Gettysburg. We just decided to go to Gettysburg on a whim, found the Brickhouse Inn on line and took a chance and are so glad we did. The town is great to walk around with all the little shops and restaurants, and we really enjoyed stopping by the four wineries for tastings located conveniently right in town! We were there between Christmas and New Year's 2014 and everything was decorated so pretty and festive. Just knowing you are surrounded by all that history makes it even more inviting. I would highly recommend staying at the Brickhouse Inn. They have everything that you could want and more. Can't wait to come back this summer!!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at BHI. The accommodations and service were excellent and friendly. I will be returning soon and recommending to friends. Thank you Brian and Tess for a memorable stay. Not enough words to say on how much we enjoyed ourselves. Bravo Zulu!

The staff was so kind and helpful, they provided a lot of information about the surrounding area and offered plenty suggestions for things to do. It is more affordable than other B&Bs I have stayed with & one of the nicest too! It was kept very clean and the food was delicious. Would recommend to a friend and stay again. I visited in the winter but I imagine it would be even nicer in the spring or summer as it has a lovely backyard.

Clean comfortable rooms, very good food, great service. Only complaint was that there was no small fridge in room to store leftovers or chill a bottle of wine, and the TV was barely visible from the bed. We were in the carriage house which was great, except for the lack of a fridge and the tiny TV (laptop sized). Even if a fridge wasn't feasible in the other in house rooms, the Carriage house should have one as there is plenty of room. For the price paid, it should have one.

My husband and I stayed in the Brickhouse over Halloween. The staff was friendly and we were very pleased with the service we received. The room we stayed in was small, but I had requested it (as we only needed a place to sleep and leave our stuff). We wanted to do and see as much as we could for the few days we were there. They were knowledgeable of the area and the sights. I also had a food allergy which they tried to accommodate. As my husband told me the food was simple but very good. I had never stayed in a bed & breakfast and has no idea what to really expect. I was very happy and would recommend to my friends. They are in walking distance of almost everything. It seems an older clientele is in Gettysburg, but I loved the decor and the staff was adorable! The parking was small but we had no issues. It is a short walk down stairs before you get to the main house. So be prepared if you have a big suitcase. There are two houses one could be in. They have a really cute outside area (due to October weather it was available but a bit too cold). If we ever return, this is where I believe I will stay.

I have somewhat of a disability, and when I had trouble with the stairs, Melanie immediately remedied the situation by moving us to a room more suitable for me. Thank you to Tessa, Brian and Melanie for making it a memorable weekend for us!

The Brickhouse Inn is a lovely, cozy B&B within walking distance to many eateries and tourist haunts. Brian and Tessa were very warm and welcoming, and breakfasts were fabulous! Thanks for your review. We're glad you liked the Inn well enough to want to return. We're sorry you didn't like the shower. We cannot make a specific reply because we do not know which room you stayed in, nor what it was about the shower that you did not like. All our bathrooms have high quality shower heads, and the hot water system is designed to provide immediate hot water, with a non-scald feature.

Brian and Tessa and their staff are phenomenal and they provided excellent service and they were so friendly!!! They even made Restaurant reservations for us and that was just awesome!! We absolutely recommend to anyone going to Gettysburg to stay here, you will not be disappointed!!! See you soon!! Sandy and William Mayberry.

The inn was in walking distance of many historical attractions of Gettysburg. We will definitely be back!

The Brickhouse Inn is an outstanding place to stay. This is now my fourth stay and gets better on each stay. Tessa and Brian and their team are so welcoming and friendly and my last stay was most memorable and rewarding. I lodged in the Ohio Room and New York Room and both were exemplary. A highlight is the breakfast with three courses! The Brickhouse Inn is situated extremely well to explore the Battlefield and car parking is extremely convenient. I have no hesitation in recommending a stay at the Brickhouse Inn. You will definitely not be disappointed.

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left Brickhouse Inn not only met but exceeded our expectations and, having travelled on many occasions, expectations are high. The hosts and owners Brian and Tessa are an absolute delight, very welcoming, informative and so friendly. Janice, who works in the afternoons, was tremendously efficient and helpful and again with that special "Brickhouse" warmth. The Inn itself is absolutely immaculate. Perfectly maintained with immaculate rooms and very well tendered gardens. Breakfast is another delight with 3 courses every day prepared to the highest standards. It is quite clear that owners and staff take a great pride in both their work and the Inn itself and this reflects in every aspect of the experience. A truly outstanding B and B that stands head and shoulders above most and equals the very best as far as we are concerned.

We were fortunate enough to stay 2 nights in the Ohio room at the Brickhouse Inn on short notice. It was the best decision we could have made. We decided on the package deal which included a 3 hr. private tour of the Battlefied. Susan our guide was fantastic. We could have listened to her all day. Brian and Tessa the owners, are wonderful warm people. The first morning we thought it was a bit cool to eat outdoors on their beautiful patio, so we opted to eat indoors and this did not pose a problem at all to the staff. I am not a breakfast person but I could become one if the staff cooked for me daily. Food was outstanding. We were on the third floor which was not an issue for us. It was quiet and cozy. The bed was comfortable, the room an ample size, clean and neat and had everything you would ever need. We were within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. We will certainly be returning and I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Every aspect of our stay at the Brickhouse was great. Great innkeepers, great food, great room, beautiful/great grounds. We stayed in the Alabama Room which was awesome. The Brickhouse is close to everything you will want to do in Gettysburg. I think my favorite part was just reading in the garden. It is very peaceful there. this was our second time at the Brickhouse and each time it gets better.

Overall our stay at The Brickhouse Inn was disappointing. I have stayed at many B & Bs and have had wonderful experiences; just mediocre here. The woman who welcomed us at The Brickhouse was not warm or welcoming. She showed us the rooms in a very perfunctory fashion. Never asked where we were from , how our travels had been, etc.. Very clean rooms; Tennessee was a bit cramped but New York was bigger. Breakfast was good and it was pleasant to sit on patio. Major complaint is that I felt like I was in a small hotel rather than a comfortable, warm inviting home. The owners/staff never spoke to us or engaged us in any way; very disappointing. The street noise is also very loud although convenient to walk to restaurants. I would not stay here again.

Very cute house, clean and a cozy feel. My only complaint is please update your website! The pictures for the house are about 40% accurate. I think most of the pics for the Cricket House were actually of their other property, Culp house.

My mother, daughter, sister and I recently enjoyed a 3 day stay at the Brickhouse Inn B&B in Gettysburg. It was delightful! The owners and staff were all deeply committed to making our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We were greeted each morning with a delectable 3 course breakfast. All of us were thoroughly impressed by the presentation of the food, as well as the flavor. Dessert with breakfast was a true delight! The home itself was inviting and comfortable. The gardens were exquisite and beautifully maintained. Our hosts saw to all of our requests and needs. They arranged a private-guided tour of the battlefield and recommended excellent dining and historically relevant experiences during our stay. The relaxing, peaceful atmosphere was a respite from the everyday world. We highly recommend the Brickhouse Inn if you'd like a little bit of Heaven on earth!

Very fortunate to find such a grand place at the last minute. The inn is beautiful with a great exterior as well as interior. Breakfast outside on the patio was a lovely setting. The main dish was unremarkable but what made it 4 stars instead of 3 was the dessert served with breakfast and the cakes and cookies served during the day and evening. I would certainly go back and I highly recommend this place located in walking distance of shops, restaurants and bars. I really enjoyed sitting on the front porch rocking chairs and watching the busy traffic out front and people watch. The road noise doesn't bother me, but I can see how it could bother others. Our room was at the back of the house and could not hear anything in the room.

Lots of history in this property. Host Brian was very welcoming and accomodating. The garden and patio areas were beautiful. We were within walking distance to downtown and many good restaurants. This was our first B&B experience, and we loved it! Our room, the 'Alabama Room', had a private bath and its own private entrance. Very well appointed with furniture and decorative pieces that fit the historic location of Gettysburg. The grounds were well maintained and very inviting and relaxing. Parking was sufficient and the property is located in walking distance of restaurants, ice cream shops, and the battlefields. The breakfasts were so good, almost gormet! The owners mingled during breakfast without feeling imposing. We really felt at home here and would do a B&B again!

Me and my family (DH and two sons age 17 and 9) stayed at the Cricket House for several days and quite enjoyed our accomodations. They were within a couple blocks walk from the town center and we were only about 2 miles from a grocery store. The Cricket House itself is very charming. My boys stayed in the upstairs beds and we stayed in the downstairs bedroom. Everything was clean and nicely decorated/furnished. The only odd thing is that there is an exterior door in the shower in the downstairs. It was good to open for ventilation into the shower and bathroom since when the shower door is completely closed the ventilation fan in the bathroom cannot filter out the steam in the shower but then you're standing there taking a shower with an exterior door partially open and with the potential for one of the neighbors to see in. Other than that, we had a great time!

Brickhouse Inn is spotlessly clean and thoughtfully furnished. Our bed was comfy and linens and towels were of high quality. The property is attractively landscaped and the garden is lovely. Brian and Tessa are charming, well informed hosts who circulate at breakfast each morning (8:15 and 9:15 seatings) to greet guests and answer questions. Brickhouse is well located in terms of restaurants, shops and Gettysburg attractions. However, Baltimore St. is fairly busy and people who are especially sensitive to traffic noises should choose rooms with garden views.

The Brickhouse Inn is outstanding in many ways...First, the location is within walking distance of many must-see sites. Secondly, it is a beautiful Victorian Home well maintained inside and outside. Thirdly, Brian and Tessa are excellent host and hostess. They are very welcoming and make each person feel special. Fourth, the breakfasts are "to die for"...very tasty and beautifully presented. WE only wish we could visit when all the flowers are blooming in the garden. It has to be spectacular. We loved our stay. The Zonkers

We recently stayed here while attending a wedding in Gettysburg. My husband is the B&B type as he is a very private person. I love them, so finding a place to stay is always a challenge and a compromise. While looking at dozens of lodging options for our trip online, I came across the Brickhouse Inn. I immediately loved the online photos and location. My husband liked the reasonable price. Then we began reading room descriptions and came across the Carraige House room. This room is above the garage and has its own separate entrance from the parking area. It was the perfect room for us! We were located behind the main house, a short stroll through the beautiful garden to the dining area. It was the best of both worlds, with the convenience and privacy of a hotel, but all the comforts of a B&B that I cherish. Our hosts, Tessa and Brian, were fantastic! The grounds are enchanting and the location really is terrific, just a five minute walk to Lincoln Square, or a block in the other direction to more tourist shops and eateries. Very close to the historic battlefields. But the best part would have to be the breakfast! The food was better than I imagined it would be, and much better than most upscale restaurants I have been to. We will definitely be booking another stay at the Brickhouse Inn!!
5 sur juin 25, 2013
Even the stroll from the free parking lot behind this beautiful red brick inn was an experience full of beautiful gardens and a incredible water feature. It was just the beginning of a relaxing stay punctuated by delicious breakfasts and gracious hosts. The Inn is located within easy walking distance of restaurants, pubs and shops. The room was quaint, furnished in period style that enhanced the feeling of stepping back in time. Our hosts arranged a licensed guide to meet us in the parlor and take us on an extensive and incredibly interesting tour of the battlefields. We really could not have had a more pleasurable time!

Breakfast was delicious and the innkeepers and staff were so helpful and accomadating. We only wish we could have talked more, but we were out and about with so much to do in Gettysburg. Also Brian emailed me about my stay and answered all my questions, including where to dine to making our reservations. My family and i will definately be back.

My hubby and I wanted a weekend getaway. After looking on the internet we chose the BHI for it's great reviews, central historic location and good rates. We also booked an Ultimate Gettysburg package and upgraded to a 3 hour tour, as reccomended. It was everything we could have wanted. Brian and Tessa are amazing. All the staff was extremely helpful and gracious. The back yard grounds are a slice of quiet paradise. The breakfast was imcomparable. Our one and ONLY issue: we booked the New York room which was fabulous , not to feminine for my spouse. BUT a word of warning, if you are not used to traffic noises (we live in the boondocks) you may want to book a room on the other side of the Inn for a better nite's sleep.. But, please, stay here. You won't regret it!

We were very happy with our stay. The room was attractive and welcoming after a day on the road and very well located for enjoying Gettysburg. The parking is convenient and the house beautiful. Breakfast was very good, although we didn't care for the (weak) cinnamon-tinged coffee. We made the mistake of taking a key away with us: owners were patient encough to allow us to mail it back, which we appreciated. Would definitely stay again, and recommend Gettysburg highly as a vacation destination.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMMENDED! The best location in Gettysburg--so close to the battlefield and all the action! Walking distance to great restaurants, shops and the downtown area, yet the inn itself with the garden and koi pond is a quiet, peaceful oasis away from the crowds. Tessa and Brian are the most gracious and welcoming innkeepers, and Melanie and Lee on their staff are absolutely wonderful. Everyone helped us make the most of our short stay and coordinated all the extras to surprise my friend with a delicious birthday cake. The breakfast is first rate and the hospitality gets an A+++. An added bonus is that the Welty House is a Civil War Building and there are bullet holes on the balcony--it was like having a piece of history all to ourselves during our stay.

My daughter and I stayed at The Brickhouse Inn this July and we can't wait to go back next summer. Our stay was for 5 nights and we could have stayed longer! The Ohio Room was just our size and very quiet even with the traffic out front of the house. We were greeted by Melanie who assisted with all of our questions, including Gettysburg College. My daughter and I looked forward to the next morning's breakfast and to our delight Brian and Tess always served something different and tasty! The location of the Inn was perfect for us since we enjoyed getting our history during the day and ghosthunting at night! We loved the wrap around porch to share stories with other guests as well as the beautiful garden to read and cool off. We highly, highly recommend a stay at The Brickhouse Inn. May be we can get back there before next summer!

My two pre-teen daughters and I stayed at the Brickhouse Inn for three nights. What an amazing experience! We booked the "Ultimate Gettysburg Package" and I'm glad we did. The service was fantastic. My daughter's and I had a vacation we will always remember. The food at the B&B was excellent, and the location is within walking distance of downtown Gettysburg. We also went on a ghost tour and took an authentic Victorian photo at the Victorian Photography studio. I want to thank Tessa and Brian for a wonderful stay. Please visit the Brickhouse Inn....you won't regret it. My daughters are already asking when we're going back there. We definitely will stay at the Brickhouse Inn again.

Not only is the Brickhouse B&B a gem, but Brian & Tess, the owners are a treasure too. Their calm natures match the serene gardens on the property. They arranged a private battlefield tour for us and our guide, John Wiexel, was outstanding. Delicious breakfasts, beautiful restored buildings, prime location, top notch service and Victorian charm are only a few highlights of our stay at the Brickhouse Inn.

We booked the Alabama Room in the Welty House the week before we arrived. The Inn was beautiful and quiet. We were met by Lee, a very friendly and helpful manager. Tessa and Brian were gracious hosts. The breakfasts were outstanding. We do plan on staying in the Inn again, and we are telling everyone we know that the best place to stay in Gettysburg is the Brickhouse Inn.

Our stay at Brickhouse Inn, Gettysburg was truly memorable, in so many ways. The property itself and its amenities are absolutely superb. Tessa and Brian could not have been more welcoming and helpful, particularly after our unexpected run in with a deer! Breakfast in the splendid garden setting was a joy on each of the sunny mornings during our stay. The food was delicious and abundant - our first experience of Shoofly Pie!! If ever we manage back to Gettysburg, we will be sure to stay at Brickhouse Inn, and will recommend it to all and sundry here in Scotland. Many thanks indeed!

My wife and I spent 2 days in Gettysburg at Brickhouse Inn on our Summer vacation. We were completely satisfied with every part of our stay. Brian and Tessa were kind and attentive and made our stay most memorable. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff even did everything they could to accommodate my wife's special dietary needs. The food was truly gourmet. Would stay again without any hesitation. In fact I wish it wasn't so far from our home or we would make it a regular stop. Thank you Brian and Tessa for setting such high standards. We have stayed in many B&Bs and the Brickhouse Inn is on the short list of our favorites. G&E, Chicago area...

The Brickhouse Inn certainly is the premier B&B in Gettysburg. The perfect location provides easy walking access to many of the great attractions and restaurants. From the moment of arrival Brian and Tessa make you feel as a welcomed guest in the clean and comfortable historic homes. Beautiful gardens and a delicious breakfast will have you fueled for the day's activities. All staff are knowledgeable and helpful in any planning of activities/dining for first time visitors. The Brickhouse Inn will be our choice of stay anytime we return!

My sisters and I just spent a wonderful weekend at the Brickhouse Inn. Since we currently live in 3 different states, we have to plan to get together. We are already planing to return to the Brickhouse Inn. The innkeepers, Tessa and Brian, could not be more gracious as well as knowledgeable about the area and, important to us, its restaurants. They gave us excellent advice for both Friday and Saturday night dinners. The inn itself is lovely, comfortable, clean and very centrally located for Gettysburg activities. Breakfast was delicious -- a leisurely way to begin a full day of sightseeing! There are lots of choices for B&Bs in Gettysburg -- we feel very fortunate to have found the Brickhouse Inn on our first try!

This is a wonderful place to stay when at Gettysburg! It is close to the battlefield, close to many other attractions in town, and the innkeepers-Tessa and Brian- and their staff go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and pampered. A wonderful, and unexpected plus of staying here, are the beautiful flowers and tress on the property. They are a great place to relax after a long day on the battlefield. I highly recommend this inn!

My husband and I both believe that this was the best B&B in which we have ever stayed. It is conveniently located within walking distance to the battlefield and to dining and historical points of interest. Our room was well-appointed and clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast, which was served in their lovely garden, was delicious and plentiful. They serviced cake and cookies throughout the day as well as a large selection of teas and coffee. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Gettysburg.

The gardens and scenery are beautiful! Everyone was very nice and breakfast was delicious! The B&B is in a great location. It was nice to be able to tour the battlefields and walk around town and then come back to the room when we needed a break. I would definitely recommend the Brickhouse to anyone and I hope to return again! Thank you for a wonderful and relaxing stay!

Our friends recommended the Brickhouse B&B Inn for our vacation/honeymoon. The location is perfect as there are restaurants and stores within walking distance, yet in your room or on the porch, you feel like you have stepped back in time. Tessa, Brian and all the folks at the Inn treat you like royalty. Breakfasts were perfect every day, they were so accommodating with my food allergies and the eggs dijon are a must have. In addition, of course desert after the main course just makes this whole experience beyond words. The rooms are neat and clean to perfection, yet you feel right at home. We will be back…..Christy and Donnie

On our recent stay we brought friends who had never stayed at a B&B before - it was a wonderful experience for all of us; our rooms were perfect. Brian, Tessa, and Lee were so accomodating and gracious throughout our stay. The Brickhouse Inn is an immaculate, historic, and guest friendly inn right in the heart of downtown Gettysburg. So many rooms to choose from - we have stayed in 3 different rooms so far and plan to visit again next year - it's hard to pick a favorite - we like them all! The rear gardens are serene and welcoming, right down to the resident frog in the pond - a perfect place to spend a little quiet time in the evening after a busy day on the battlefield. Breakfasts are good and pentiful and a fine way to meet fellow travellers with similar interests; Brian and Tessa made a point of visiting with their guests at breakfast and were so helpful in providing information on places to eat, places to visit, etc - they are a wealth of information. Thank you Brian, Tessa, Lee and the rest of your staff for your gracious hospitality and attention to detail which assured us of a pleasant, relaxing stay.

We had a lovely weekend at The Brickhouse Inn this past weekend. My husband and I took my parents and it was the perfect choice. Brian and Tessa were the perfect innkeepers and were so attentive. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious each morning. The location was perfect and even though it was on a busy street, it was a refuge from the tourists down below. Although this inn is just steps from everything, it is a classic peaceful haven with two charming and delightful inkeepers. The only thing that seemed awkward was tables reserved for groups traveling together at breakfast, which made the rest of us feel odd. I understand why groups would want this and I don't see any other solution but it was the only off note in a delightful stay.

The Brickhouse Inn was a pleasure to vist. We were greeted graciously and the place was very clean. The Brickhouse Inn is awesome! Tessa and Brian are truly gracious hosts, and took care of our every need. Ditto for every staff member there too. The whole B&B is immaculate in every way and the food truly outstanding. The coffee is great too (and we are coffee snobs) :-) The location is the best in town. It's within a 1-3 minute walking distance of all major attractions except the battleground which is only about a 2-3 minute drive. Our certified guide met us right in the living room and drove us there. He knew everything about the battle, telling us in detail what happened at what time of day and names of all the officers. The attractions packages are great. Melanie (inn manager) made all reservations for us which was so very helpful. Everything was done and just waiting for us to arrive. We definitely recommend the Brickhouse Inn 1,000%! When we return, we wouldn't even think about staying at a different location.

This was the first time we stayed at a B&B. We were looking for a short weekend vacation from Baltimore over President's Day weekend. We were very pleased with the spacious accommodations of the South Carolina room. The location was great, walking distance to all of the historic area restaurants and shops. The house and grounds are very well kept and must be beautify in the spring when everything is in bloom. Breakfast is a 3 course delicious meal every morning and the staff and inn keepers are very nice. We ended up booking a three hour car tour per their recommendations and it was well worth it. If we find ourselves in Gettyburg again, we will surely look to stay here as well as recommend it to friends.

What can I say about our stay at the Brickhouse Inn. First of all, I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay there. Tessa and Brian were so friendly and even went out of their way to know our names, even though they had a full house(s) of tourists to deal with. What attracted Carin and I to the Bickhouse Inn was the history of the place. On our first night there, we stayed in the Victorian House which was built around 1898. We loved the old time charm of the place, right down to the old fashioned door knobs! Our remaining 2 nights were spent next door in the Welty house. This was a special experience for a history geek like myself due to it being there at the time of the battle. The bullet holes in the walls of the house are a testament to that and really made the experience “real” to me. The rooms were furnished in such a way that one might think at it was 1863 and not 2011. Carin and I also loved the garden behind the houses. I refer to it as the oasis. Well shaded, the sound of the running water from the pond…. a great way to unwind and reflect after a day of touring the battlefield. No one could blame you for dozing off in the oasis. The location of Brickhouse Inn was also a deciding factor in choosing where we would stay. The Inn was so close to the battlefield!! Carin and I took a short walk each morning before breakfast to Cemetery Hill and Culps Hill. It was so nice to beat the tour buses there! To view each monument and let our imaginations take us back to 1863 was truly a unique experience. So, what can I say about the Brickhouse Inn? See above!! I could also go on and on but seeing and staying is believing.

This-our 5th stay- was, as always, a most enjoyable and memorable experience. Brian and Tessa do everything to make one feel special. The rooms are lovely and impeccably clean, the beds are very comfortable and the breakfasts are outstanding. The sitting rooms and outdoor sitting areas are inviting and peaceful. This year we did a 3 hours personal battlefield tour with a guide recommended and secured by Brian. It was excellent! And never question a recommendation given by Brian or Tessa about local restaurants or attractions...whatever it is, it will be worth your while. Get away from the hectic pace of everyday life and give yourself a treat with a stay at the Brickhouse Inn. K.Campbell...Pittsburgh, PA

Our group of friends visited Gettysburg last week. We did our homework and chose an inn carefully. The glowing comments by other guests were not overstated--this place is outstanding in every way. I was greeted by Lee, a lovely young woman who was polite, articulate, and professional. She showed me to my room, a beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and very quiet room with a porch overlooking the lovely garden. The brick wall ouside the room bear scars and bullet holes from the battles. Breakfast was delicious; tea and coffee were available 24 hours in the parlor, and homemade cookies and cake was offered every afternoon. A highlight of my stay was having dinner with Lee. When she learned that my friends wouldn't arrive until the following day, she invited me to join her at a nearby restaurant. I felt very welcomed. Thanks to all at the lovely Brickhouse Inn. I will return.

In Gettysburg, there's no better way to enjoy the area than to stay at a B&B, and stay we did - 5 days. We are the honeymooners, and not to be mistaken with the "Kramdens". After plenty of discussion about where to go and stay for our honeymoon, we decided to descend on Gettysburg. We scoured the internet to determine which of the B&B's would be the best option for us and came across The Brickhouse Inn. The reviews we read, and not to mention the website, were convincing enough for us. We were not disappointed. We decided to stay in the Texas Room, which is on the front of the Welty House. There's no better way to experience the history of Gettysburg than to stay in a place that stood in the line of fire during the Battle. The Welty House still bears the scars of war on its exterior. The service was outstanding. Prior to our arrival, we were allowed the option of choosing which seating we would prefer for our breakfast. Breakfast did not disappoint, and the staff attentive. One does not leave the table hungry, unless by choice. We would recommend the Shoofly Pie, which is a wonderful way to end breakfast. We would also recommend enjoying one or more of the special add-on packages. They do not disappoint. If you are planning a surprise for your special someone, the staff takes great pains to ensure that it is a surprise. Finally, we found the staff to be extremely helpful and welcome to questions and comments. We recommend The Brickhouse Inn and look forward to our return someday in the future.

Every year on the way to the beach we drive past Gettysburg and my poor husband always comments that he would like to stop there some time on the way back and explore Gettysburg. He is always met with "NO, NO, NO", from other family members. So this year, I told him for a retirement present we were going to Gettysburg for an entire weekend, just the two of us, and he could do whatever he wanted, and explore battlefields to his hearts content. The Brickhouse Inn exceeded our expectations. Wonderful location, we could walk to so many things, very clean and most comfortable beds. Delicious breakfast and cookies and drinks were an added afternoon treat. The weather did not cooperate and we didn't get to enjoy the garden's like we hoped we would, but that was out of Tess's control. We will recommend this inn to all of our friends and hope to stay again in the future when we can enjoy their beautiful outdoor gardens.

I recently stayed again at the Brickhouse Inn and as soon as I entered the back gardens I had the feeling of being home. I had forgotten how charming and peaceful the gardens are...a place of refuge after a busy day. Brian and Tessa have furnished the inn with comfortablility without sacrificing novelty and the historical setting. I stayed in the Virginia Room which was perfect for one or two adults --cozy without being crowded. The proximity of the inn to downtown as well as to the Battlefield is also an added plus. Every time I enter or exit through the wrought iron gate in front of the inn, I feel as though I'm traveling back to the 1800's...but without the hardships. I will always choose the Brickhouse Inn as my first for lodging when visiting the area. I wish Brian and Tessa and all the kind staff much continued success. Jackie Beattie Long Island, NY

My husband and I stayed in the Georgia Room with a balcony over looking an amazing garden. The room was sparkling clean and the bed was sooo comfortable. We had the best breakfast on the patio and planned our day.Tessa and Brian were always there to help with suggestions of places to visit.Dinner at the Dobbin House, a Ghost Tour with Miss Betty, a horse back tour of the battlefields with General Lee and a Victorian photo were the highlights of our trip to Gettysburg. We hope to return soon.

My wife and I are completely satisfied and happy with everything about our stay at the Brickhouse Inn. Not only were Brian and Tessa very polite but all of our reservations were already made and in place when we arrived to the different venues that we selected to go to and attend. This was our first experience with an Inn and we will DEFINATELY be coming back. From the first class breakfast on the patio to our last goodbye we are completely satisfied and will miss the Brickhouse Inn until our next arrival!!!

My wife and I discovered the Brickhouse Inn shortly after it initially opened for business and greatly enjoyed our nearly annual visits. We were unnecessarily cautious when we were informed that the business changed hands. Over the past years we have come to enjoy our stays even more with the consistency of service, cleanliness, and kinds words from Tessa, Brian and staff. We have provided family members with gift certificates to stay and we both look forward to continued visits to the Brickhouse and friends.

We stayed recently at the Brickhouse Inn and found it to be an excellent choice for our first visit to Gettysburg. Tessa and Brian were great hosts. The breakfast was different every morning and was superbly prepared. The gardens were beautiful and well maintained. We stayed in the North Carolina Room and it was lovely, spacious and very clean. The public areas were wonderfully appointed with period furnishings, paintings and maps. Brian was very knowledgeable about the Gettysburg Battlefield and local spots. We recommend the Brickhouse Inn very highly!

My husband and I don't travel a lot, but when we do, it's important to have the right accommodations. The Brick House Inn was an excellent place to stay. It was very clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were a complete meal! The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The grounds well maintained and a pleasure to relax in. It was within walking distance to a lot of places and activities. We definitely would stay there again and highly recommend it to those who like a more intimate, quiet place to stay. The only deficit was being on a main road, the motorcycle traffic was loud if you're not used to city noises.

We brought our bicycles and left our car in the inn's parking place during our stay. The location is ideal - there are lots of shops and restaurants within a few blocks. Gettysburg is such a wonderful little town - so much to see at the national park and do downtown. The cemetary is a block away and the natl park visitor's center a short ride away, on the road where the inn is located. The breakfasts were worth 5 stars. And there was iced tea, water, hot coffee and tea, cookies and cake available all day in the dining room. The room was perfect, all the nice touches and comforts. The bathroom looked like it had never been used. Plush linens. All the best. The backyard and patio, where we ate breakfast is shaded, surrounded by beautiful shrubs and flowers, a bubbling brook, so peaceful and beautiful. I can't imagine a nicer place to vacation. Cathy Becker and Tim Birney, Harrisburg PA.

This inn is impeccably maintained, the location is perfect since you can easily walk to town as well as to the shops and attractions on Steinwehr and Baltimore streets, the innkeepers are fabulous, and the breakfasts they served each morning on the outdoor patio were wonderful (as were the freshly baked cookies and cakes in the afternoon). There is also a beautiful secluded shaded lawn behind the inn with a fishpond, stream and waterfall, and comfortable adirondack style wood chairs for relaxing. The entire experience was fabulous and i'd highly recommend it!

We have been to Gettysburg many times, but this was our first experience staying at the Brickhouse Inn. We were very pleased with all aspects of our stay and our accommodations. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We definitely will return here.

My wife and I enjoyed a 4 night stay at the Brickhouse inn. Tess and Brian along with the rst of the staff were great. Brian helped us book all the tours and even arraigned a private tour guide, the guide cost $50.00 but it was money well spent getting a private guide to take us around the battlefield. We will definitely go back again.

The Brickhouse Inn is a fantastic place to stay while in Gettysburg. The Inn itself sets the stage for the historic journey of revisiting one of our Country's great Civil War battlefields. The Innkeepers have tastefully decorated the rooms in keeping with the historic era, while providing all of the amenities desirable today. The rooms, patios and gardens are comfortable and provide a quiet, tranquil atmosphere... all surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees. The food and snacks at the Inn were delicious. We were given excellent advice on where to dine and what sites to see....and, they offered to make arrangments for anything we wanted to do and see. We have stayed at many bed & breakfasts over the years and the Brickhouse Inn is definitely one of the best. We definitely recommend it and plan to visit again.

Our 3 grown children purchased a stay for us at the Brickhouse Inn for our anniversary. What a treat! The inn is beautiful, as is the outdoor dining area and surrounding gardens. This is a historical building - the room we stayed in still had bullet holes outside on the balcony area. The rooms are comfy, clean and welcoming. We sat out on our 2nd floor balcony in the evenings, enjoying the chocolate strawberries and wine that we were also gifted with. Breakfasts are SOOO good! We ate outdoors on the patio with "our neighbors". Parking is off street. The location couldn't be any better - within walking distance of the town attractions and close enough to the bus tours and museums that you can walk there too. I would definitely recommend staying here for a special getaway!

My wife and I have stayed at many B&B's over the years. The Brickhouse Inn rates with the best. Why? Because the room we stayed in was all we expected. Because Brian and Tess are personable and genuine hosts. Because it's location puts you in the center of things. Because the setting in the backyard is simply special. There's more ... but you get the picture.
5 sur juin 09, 2011
The Brickhouse Inn exceeded our expectations in every way. This B & B is run with the professionalism and attention to detail that you would expect from a 5 star boutique hotel but has maintained all the warmth and hospitality you would expect from a Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are beautifully appointed but also function well: enough light to read by, lights that dim, ceiling fans, air conditioning, television, Wifi, etc. all without depleting the charm of the tasteful antique furnishings. The breakfasts are interesting, generous and elegantly served in a casual atmosphere. The Innkeepers are also only too happy to help with organising tours, guides, dinner reservations and anything that you might require during your stay. We stayed at many B & B's in many states on our trip and the Brickhouse Inn rated number one with us.

This was our second stay at the Brickhouse Inn and I will not stay anywhere else when visiting Gettysburg. Brian and Tess are so welcoming and pleasant you will feel right at home. The rooms are always clean and the garden in back is beautiful and well kept. It is nice to sit at any one of the numerous tables in the garden in the afternoon or evening to enjoy a glass of wine and just relax. The garden is well light at night. I have a food allergy and Tess always accommodates my needs with a breakfast that I can eat. The Inn is located at a perfect place in town where everything except the Visitors Center Museum is within walking distance. Give this place a try and you will be glad you did. I would give more than 5 stars if I could. Randy & Annmarie Danielsville PA

Our son has taken an interest in the battles of the Civil War, so our family decided to make a trip to Gettysburg. What a memorable experience to spend a night at the Brickhouse Inn and know we were sleeping in a house that was there during the Civil War! The Inn is perfectly situated in downtown Gettysburg and is walking distance to the Cemetary and numerous other attractions as well as restaurants for dinner. The owners and staff are wonderful, breakfast was scrumptious, and the gardens are beautiful. If you are travelling to Gettysburg, you must spend a night at The Brickhouse Inn!

It's my only choice for a B&B in Gettysburg, it's walking distance to just about everything. It was such a pleasure after a chilly day of sightseeing to return to this historical Inn to find hot coffee & homemade cookies awaiting us in the beautiful dining area! This was our first B&B experience. The Brickhouse Inn is the perfect location to stay when visiting Gettysburg. The central location makes it a pefect place to walk and explore the town. Rooms are very clean and have everything you need. It takes you back to a past time, but gives you all of the amenities of a modern hotel. Brian, Tessa, and the staff do everything they can to make your experience memorable. They help with tour info, restaurants options, and any other questions or requests you may have. They cook a wonderful breakfast each day. Also, there is always a snack and beverage available for you. Whether you are in town for sight seeing or just getting away and want to relax on the porch or patio, this is the perfect place to stay. I cant say enough positive things about The Brickhouse. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the area. Marc and Julie Newark, DE

Our first trip to Gettysburg was fabulous mainly due to The Brickhouse. We were greeted by Brian and immediately knew we made a great choice. He was very proper, yet warm, and invited us to put our bags down so we could enjoy some fresh afternoon baked goodies. We stayed in the North Carolina suite, which had a bedroom, private bath, sitting room with rocker and a day bed, and also our own balcony overlooking the gardens. It was very nice to have all that space to relax. The room was immaculate, and the bed very comfy. Breakfasts were phenomenal with a fruit start, main course, AND a dessert! I've never had a dessert for breakfast but it was a sweet ending to the meal. The Inn was very helpful in arranging a private guide for a tour of the battlefield and also a ghost tour. The location is close to the visitor center, restaurants, the circle with shopping, and the battlefield. We walked to many places. We loved everything about the Brickhouse and would definitely stay there again if we make it back to Gettysburg.

As frequent patrons of B&Bs, my wife and I were not disappointed with the Brickhouse Inn. The Inn consists of two beautiful brick buildings perched close to the edge of the battlefield and conveniently located near shopping and dining. Had the weather been a bit warmer, most of the town of Gettysburg would have been readily accessible by walking. We stayed in the Kentucky Suite in the older of the two buildings that was present during the battle. Our room was quite large, with a bedroom and a separate sitting room with wing back chairs, both with faux wood stove fireplaces. The bathroom was also spacious, complete with a large claw foot bath tub. Off of the bathroom was a private balcony with rocking chairs, although it was a bit too cold during our trip to enjoy that space. The exterior wall of the balcony bore the scars of bullet holes from close fighting during the battle of Gettysburg, which was a really interesting historical connection. The breakfasts were also excellent, with a terrific variety. Each breakfast was three courses, including a choice of dessert, which we have never seen at a B&B. In the afternoons, there were fresh baked cookies and cakes served with coffee or tea in the dining room as well. Brian and Tessa, the Innkeepers were very gracious and helpful with recommendations on dining and making reservations for tours or meals. The grounds of the property were also very well maintained, including a waterfall, pond and large outdoor seating areas. Given that we stayed at the end of March, we didn't get to see the full effect of the property, but the gardeners were preparing for spring flowers, which must be incredible. Overall, this was one of the best B&Bs that we have ever stayed in. We would absolutely come back and would recommend it to anyone.

My daughter and I recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit this delightful B&B while on an overnight visit to Gettysburg. Brian and Tessa, the owners of the Inn, are meticulous when it comes to details from the atmosphere of the main Inn to the individual decor of the guest rooms. Everything is so clean, neat and tastefully done. We stayed in the Texas Room and I must admit the canopy bed was as big as the state of Texas; we even needed a stool to get into the bed! Brian was extremely knowledgeable about local venues to visit and especially great places to eat. He recommended the Dobbins House, we followed his suggestion, he made an immediate reservation and, needless to say, we had a superb meal there. Tessa's breakfast the next morning was another delightful way to start a bright, new day. We feasted on a selection of teas, juice and coffee along with delicious melons topped with rich yogurt, quiche, sausage, muffins and, with little room left for any more, ended our breakfast with shoe-fly pie and a lemon tart. Talk about being satisfied! We hated to leave such a wonderful stay at the Brickhouse Inn and my daughter and I are awaiting another return in the not too distant future! Deborah and Eliza Mc.

Could not say anything didn't exceed our expectations. The house was gorgeous, done in beautiful taste and exceptionally clean and cozy. I felt we were the only ones staying there when we were in our suite - could not hear anyone else even though the place was very full. My husband said they were the nicest people at any bed & breakfast we've stayed at - and we've stayed at alot! The breakfasts were delicious and they even catered to our 11 yr old, who would rather not have anything gourmet. There's also so much to do in Gettysburg, even in Feb., which is off season. Skiing & tubing is 20 min. away and of course all the history! Some of the museums were closed but there was still so much to do and no crowds! Would stay at the Brickhouse again in a minute.

I travel to Gettysburg 8-12 times a year and I have stayed in just about every Bed and Breakfast in the borough. The Brickhouse Inn is without rival in terms of comfort, hosptiality, well appointed rooms, amenities and charm. It's central location to the battlefield as well as the town of Gettysburg is excellent. The Welty House, part of the Brickhouse Inn's room choices, played a role in the battle and also appears in the now famous photo of the processional up the Baltimore Pike just prior to Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Tessa and Brian are superb hosts and a delight to converse with. I will be staying at the Brickhouse much more frequently on future visits to Gettsyburg. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to weekend in Gettysburg and stay no where else but the Brickhouse Inn.

Brian and Tessa were very gracious host and went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect for each guest. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Brian and Tessa's dining recommendations were spot on. The first night we just wanted something easy and quick, so Tessa recommended Tommy's Pizza which had to be some of the best Pizza we had ever eaten. Brian had made reservations for us at The Dobbins House for Sunday evening and it was outstanding the food was well prepared and the ambiance was perfect for Valentines Day. We had a marvelous stay with Brian and Tessa. From late changes to our room due to our daughter coming with us after booking a room for just us, to calling my cell when the housekeeper found a camera we forgot after we had checked out in a hurry to catch us before we left the area, the service has been amazing. The breakfast was incredibly delicious, as was the carrot cake and cookies waiting for us in the kitchen after our arrival - yum! The room was very comfortable and was impeccably clean - you could soak up the history just by standing inside and letting the antique decorations and architecture mesmerize you back in time. Gettysburg itself is a must see destination for all Americans to truly understand the impact of what happened there on today's world. There are a number of excellent restaurants and shops right within walking distance, but a short drive will also take you to even more interesting places including a surprisingly bargain laden outlets. A short walk will put you right on the battlefield, complete with statues and cannons to help your mind jump right into the action. For the ghost hunters or curious out there, I can't think of a better place to go for experiencing the supernatural - and that's all I'm going to say, other than to be sure you try out some of the ghost tours offered - they are truly marvelous. This B&B truly complements the spirit of the amazing town of Gettysburg, and should be considered as important as part of the overall experience as the educational battleground bus tour. You will be very pleased with your accommodations and hospitality offered before and after a busy day experiencing everything Gettysburg has to offer.

The stay at the Birckhouse was very pleasant. We stayed two nights in the NC Suite... very nice, very clean, private bathroom was immaculate. The room was cleaned and towels changed after the first night. The food, however was just OK. The first morning was wonderful... apple pancakes. However, the second day was hit-or-miss... warm egg salad on a toasted English muffin. I hate egg salad, and by the time they never asked if I wanted something else... they just cleared my plate away with everything still on it. They also put cheese on my wife's dish... they asked at check-in if any one had any dietary restrictions, and she told them she is lactose intolerant. No big deal. All-in-all, the stay was great. We would absolutely stay there again.... we'll just be sure to check the little white board with the next day's breakfast menu. Coffee, teas, and cookies stay out all night, though, and you get a three course breakfast... so you won't go hungry, even if the main course isn't appetizing.

I would highly recommend Brickhouse to anyone! I consider the Inn an excellent combination of historic and modern; great for experiencing the atmosphere of Gettysburg without the stuffiness/"antique shop" feel of some other Bed and Breakfasts. The location is absolutely unbeatable for visiting the Battlefield. We stayed in the Carriage House and the quality of workmanship in the construction was remarkable. The same applies to the Inn as a whole. Breakfast was delicious, exceptionally well prepared and presented, and of considerable portion size. Brian and Tessa are superior hosts (who doesn't love listening to UK accents!) and no detail was left unattended. A uniquely professional operation...and an excellent value to boot. We will be back.

As long time students of the battle we expected Gettysburg to be a valuable trip, but what we didn't expect was the additional benefit of The Brickhouse Inn. We stayed seven nights and found the breakfasts and the visits with other guests to be one of the highlights of the trip. Our many trips to the battlefield were inspirational and all that we had hoped for, but we enjoyed coming home to the Inn throughout the day for rest and the many pleasantries it offered. We particularly enjoyed the afternoon teas (and treats) along with visits with other guests, and with our hosts, Tessa and Brian. The home sits on Baltimore Pike which saw much of the battle flow up and down the street, the cemetery, and nearby Culp's Hill. We were able to walk to all of these places from the home, and the old town of Gettysburg is equally convenient. The rooms were well-maintained and very clean. The garden was lovely. Even though we are from California, we look forward to another stay at the inn again on a future trip.

The Brickhouse Inn is lovely. It's impeccably clean and tastefully furnished. Located in the heart of the historical section of Gettysburg, we could walk to many of the sights and shopping. The garden landscape was beautiful and inviting as we enjoyed relaxing on a lovely summer evening. Our hosts, Brian and Tessa, were so attentive and nice and do their own cooking each morning for breakfast. You won't find a buffet here - delicious served food and something different each morning. It was really wonderful. We had never been to Gettysburg before, so we took advantage of the option to have Brian arrange tours for us. He did a wonderful job and we had a hassle free weekend.

As always Brian and Tessa are excellent hosts and the staff is very warm and friendly. If you needed anything all were willing to be sure to help. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The grounds are just lovely with the beautiful flowers and the pond--it is so peaceful to sit there at any time of the day or night. The breakfasts are delicious and filling. We have stayed here many times in the past and enjoyed every moment. I would recommend the Brickhouse Inn.

We arrived on Friday, 07/09/10 and were welcomed by Brian. He showed us to our rooms and gave us general information about the Inn and places to visit and/or eat during our stay. We stayed in the Ohio Room and it was so quaint. Loved the decor of the room. We stayed two nights. Breakfasts were wonderful .. fresh fruit, main course, desserts. Sat. it rained so we ate inside, but Sunday we were able to eat on the back porch surrounded by the beautiful gardens. It was one of the nicest B&B's we've ever stayed it. Sitting outside in the garden in the evening sipping wine was so relaxing. We didn't want to leave. We'll go back again, soon I hope.

We selected the Brickhouse in in Gettysburg, PA because of the location and found it to be an unexpected delight in all the other ratings areas. It was immacuately clean, hosts Tessa & Brian were more than accommodating in helping us book tours and restaurant reservations, the room we had was in the Welty house and provided much privacy and quiet, and the breakfasts at the Brickhouse were absolutely incredible 3-4 course meals. We hit the B&B jackpot on the first try and I can honestly tell you we would never consider staying anywhere else but the Brickhouse Inn while in Gettysburg, PA. We highly recommend it! My husband and I stayed in a B&B for the first time this time. We were married in Gettysburg PA last year and went back for our 1st anniversary. We discussed to stay at the Brickhouse B&B. What a wonderful decision we made. The innkeepers, Tessa & Brian are delightful, charming and make you feel welcomed. The inn itself is charming, clean, convenient to shops, dining and the town in general. We will definitely be going back. Thank you Tessa & Brian for making our 1st our anniversary special.

My husband and I have been staying at the Brickhouse Inn for over 13 years several times a year. The Innkeeper, Tess and Brian are delightful and go out the way to make you feel welcome. Their staff is ready to lend a hand and will do any thing for you from dinner reservations to battlefield tours. As the guest you are made to feel that you are the most important guest staying at the Inn.

This bed and breakfast is really well located (you can walk to just about everywhere), the gardens and grounds are beautiful and the rooms are very nice. Breakfast was served in the garden one morning and inside due to rain the next day. The shoo-fly pie was delicious. We stayed in the Alabama room and the only improvement we would make is to add a light on both sides of the bed for us in bed readers. We would definitely stay there again and loved our short vacation in Gettysburg.

I booked this Inn as a special gift to my husband for Father's Day 2010. The Inn exceeded my every expectation. The Innkeepers are absolutely delightful and made us feel as if we were at home. The room was cozy and a welcome sight after full days of sightseeing. I would highly recommend this Inn to anyone interested in visiting Gettysburg. The location is ideal for getting to all of the local sites (we hardly moved our car once we arrived). You are in walking distance to everything wonderful (restaurants, shops, cyclorama, and National Military Park). Overall - an excellent decision if you're thinking of booking. We will definitely return.

Every room is immaculate, the furnishings are beautiful and the food is just delicious. Brian and Tessa are terrific innkeepers and want to make sure that their guests are making the most of their visits by seeing the very best of everything in Gettysburg. We loved the location of the inn. We were able to walk to many of the local shops, restuarants and historical sites. We definitely want to stay here again and visit Lancaster, Hersey and DC!

My husband and I spent this weekend at the Brickhouse Inn and couldn't have asked for a better experience! Brian and Tessa are the most hospitable hosts and go out of their way to make guests' visits special. We were extremely impressed with how beautiful the B&B was, its central location, and how great the food and service were. Breakfast was served on the patio, a delicious meal with table service and special details. We were celebrating my parents' 40th anniversary and we asked them for a lot of assistance in helping us to make it a surprise, including hiding a cake and making separate reservations for dinner and a ghost tour for an extra guest, my brother, who joined us late as a surprise to my parents, while keeping it a secret from my parents, who made the original reservations. They also kept a cake for us that we brought, and provided everything we needed to serve the cake out on the patio for my parents. They were the most accommodating and gracious hosts, and we could not have asked for a better experience! We highly recommend the Brickhouse for anyone visiting Gettysburg!

My husband and I chose the Brickhouse from an excellent review in Select Registry and we were very glad that we did. From our warm greeting at arrival to Brian helping us carry luggage to the car when we left, we were pampered throughout our stay. The location is perfect for walking to all the sites and restaurants. From our gracious bay window on the third floor (South Carolina room) we could just imagine the intensity of the Battle at Gettysburg happening all around us. Evidence of the impact of mini balls and cannon fire can be seen on the exterior wall of the house next door which is also part of the Brickhouse property. We also could imagine Lincoln walking past the inn on the street just below on his way to deliver the Gettysburg Address. A picture of this event is featured in the parlor and it clearly shows the Brickhouse annex building. Our room was elegant and comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The housekeeping staff even re-made the bed after I had made it before we left the inn for the day. On a very special note, Brian and Tess volunteered to serve us breakfast an hour before the other guests so we would be on time for a family funeral. That is service extraordinaire! The breakfast food was delicious and presented on beautiful dinnerware. We appreciated the hot tea, coffee and cookies in the afternoon. We visited in the winter and look forward to another visit in warmer weather when we can sit outside in the garden to enjoy breakfast. We would love to see the waterfall and koi pond that Brian built himself. We will always choose the Brickhouse Inn when we visit Gettysburg.

This was our first time in Gettysburg and our first time at a B & B. I would have to say that this is a very welcoming and lovely place to stay. The rooms, grounds and common areas are very nicely kept. There is many small, but thoughtful details that were also attended too, that surprised me. The location is perfect. And Tessa was very accomodating in trying to arrange for guides, reservations etc. Breakfast was also delicious. I would recommend this inn very highly. Can't go wrong on this one.

I cannot rate this B&B highly enough. The attention to detail, the clean and spacious rooms, the excellent breakfasts - I could go on and on about what is so great about this inn. My husband and I have stayed here 4 times in the last 3 years. If you are going to Gettysburg, go to The Brickhouse Inn - you will feel as though you have been transported back in time yet enjoy all the "perks" of living in the 21st century. The inn is close to everything, and anything you'd like to do can be arranged by the innkeepers - they truly care about your stay and will do whatever they can to make sure your visit was everything you expected and more!

My family and I, 6 of us total, stayed at the Brickhouse Inn October 15-18. Between the 3 couples, we rented 3 rooms for our 4 day 3 night trip to Gettysburg. My boyfriend and I have visited Gettysburg many times and have stayed at different B&B's each time. This was our first stay at the Brickhouse Inn and it will definitely not be our last. Brian and Tess were two of the nicest Inn Keepers we've met. The food was delicious each morning. Two people in our group were creatures of habit and don't like to try new foods. Unlike other B&B's we've stayed at, that won't stray from the already planned breakfast, Brian and Tess were more than happy to accommodate our two picky eaters and made regular pan cakes for them each morning. The first morning, after eating some bacon and loving it, we asked if there were any left overs and Tess threw some more in the oven for us. The next two mornings we didn't even have to ask. She always made extra bacon for us and we loved it. On Saturday, we had two local friends joining us for the day. I asked Brian if it would be a problem if they joined us for breakfast that morning and without hesitation I was told it was no problem. The rooms were very charming, clean and full of character. The entire house was so cozy and had such a warm feeling about it. We all hated to leave. My boyfriend and I are returning in July and cannot wait. Of the 6 B&B's we've stayed at, this is the only one we will be returning to for another stay. We were that impressed with the entire experience we had over the weekend. I would highly recommend the Brickhouse Inn.

My wife and I just returned from our sixth visit to the Brickhouse Inn and our stay was memorable as always. Brian and Tesse are most gracious hosts and the rooms of the inn are immaculate. Breakfast is always a treat and the food is fantastic complete with the traditional shoe fly pie. The gardens of the inn are beautiful and surround the place with color. We always stay in the Welty House which was there during the Civil War and still bears the bullet scars in the brick. The battlefield is within walking distance of the inn. If you walk behind the inn near the school you can access a path leading to Culp’s Hill. We always like to take this path during the evening as being surrounded by the monuments in the solitude is truly a spiritual feeling. The rocking chairs on the porches of inn offer a relaxing spot to people watch. The rooms are furnished with antique furniture making you feel as if you have gone back in time. The Brickhouse Inn is a place where you will enjoy history and where you will always want to return.

This was our first experience at a Bed and Breakfast and the Brickhouse Inn has become the “gold standard” from which we will judge all others. From the moment we entered the gates, we were made to feel welcome and comfortable by everyone on the staff. Our bedroom was sunny, comfortable, and clean. There was a book listing local attractions, tours, and restaurants, which was up to date and useful. Tess and Brian were quite helpful with arranging guided tours and directing us to wonderful dining experiences at area restaurants. We loved the Inn’s location which was ideal for a quick walk to the town center or to view the historic battlefields of Gettysburg. Our thanks to everyone at the Brickhouse Inn.

Found the Brickhouse Inn thru the Gettysburg Visitors Guide. It is a beautiful old house with great personality. We were amazed how quiet the place was even with almost full capacity. We especially loved breakfast in the back gardens and spending some quiet time on the rocking chairs on the side porch. A perfect place to relax after a long hot day touring the battlefields. It is also conveniently located and we were able to walk to many attractions. Breakfast was delicious and served as a multi-course meal. We did not get the opportunity to meet Brian but Tessa was a very gracious host. We had our trip planned months in advance and only stayed 2 nights with our schedule jam packed. Next time I would let the Brickhouse make some recommendations on local attractions. Others in the house did so and were very pleased. We look forward to staying again.

Our visit to the Brickhouse Inn was a truly wonderful experience! Our innkeepers, Tess and Brian, immediately made us feel right at home; they are an amazing font of information, not only on Gettysburg, but also international travel and culture. We could have chatted for hours over a glass of wine on the back patio. There, we were surrounded by the loveliest gardens and a babbling waterfall pool, which gently cascaded down the yard! Our Alabama room in the Welty House was so comfortable and immaculate and beautifully decorated with period antiques; we slept so well, it amazed even me! The inn was in a perfect location to walk in both directions – to the battlefields and to the square, to the bookstore and interesting little shops across the street and most of the restaurants in the area. Our Battlefield tour with John Weixel was so animated and informative and just a marvelous experience. We also enjoyed the Ghost tour with Miss Betty and came out of it with many “orbs” in our photographs – spooky! We even splurged with a Massage by Ruth – such pampering! It was also so nice to chat with the other guests; they were such a wonderful and interesting group. We were sad to have to leave, but the quote, “Today we make tomorrow’s memories….” is certainly appropriate. The Brickhouse Inn will always be a part of our special memories and we plan to return one day for more adventures and relaxation – and good company!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Brickhouse for two nights. We stayed in the North Carolina suite of the main house. This room had two rooms - one with a queen bed another room had a daybed-plus a balcony with two rockers where you could sit and look over the gardens and the street. Both breaksfasts were yummy and served in one of two dining areas with other guests. We took two tours: a ghost tour with Miss Betty and a 2 hr guided battlefield tour with George Newtown-both arranged, as well as our dinner reservations by Tessa, Brian or Melanie. We will return for their great service and location.

This place is great. The Inn Keepers are wonderful. The place is clean and well kept. The grounds outside are kept up, the breakfast was good and they had a lot of people to serve and was able to do all of them the same time.

My wife and I have stayed at the Brickhouse Inn for many years. The rooms, breakfast, and owners are all terrific. We consider it our home away from home. We enjoy sitting on the rockers on the porch and breakfast outside during the summer is wonderful. Afternoon cookies and a cool drink after a wonderful day on the battlefield is just right. You can't go wrong staying at the Brickhouse Inn. The staff are helping and friendly. Everytime is a wonderful experience.

We stayed at the Brickhouse for 2 nights (4/17 & 4/18). We stayed in the NC Suite. Couldn't have ended up happier with our choice. The innkeepers were extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food was great. The room was beautiful, clean, and very spacious. The location within the town couldn't have been better. I definitely give it in an A+ and hope we can make it back on somewhat of a regular basis. I am sure there are equally nice places in Gettysburg but I can say without hesitation that you can't go wrong picking the Brickhouse.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Brickhouse Inn. Brian, Tessa, and the staff were all wonderful and helpful. All of the recommended restaurants and tours were perfect. Our room was the South Carolina room, which was spacious, but had a cozy feeling. The entire house was very clean and well kept. Each morning, a huge, delicious breakfast was served for all guests at the inn. We enjoyed the opportunity to chat with other visitors... what a great experience! We highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast. If we ever get the chance to return to Gettysburg, we will certainly stay at the Brickhouse Inn.

Innkeepers Brian and Tessa have outdone themselves in paying close attention to the finest details. Our room was beautiful and immaculate with all of the amenities, yet tastefully done in keeping with the historical theme of the inn. I'm a clean freak and it certainly passed the test. Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. Brian and Tessa went above and beyond by providing restaurant recommendations and reservations and tour arrangements. The Brickhouse Inn is the perfect location for walking to pretty much everything you would want to see or do. It was our first trip to Gettysburg and the Brickhouse Inn but it won't be our last.

Our experience at the Brickhouse Inn was fantastic. We originally only booked one night, but once we arrived it was too hard to leave, so we stayed over one more night. The rooms are beautiful and incredibly clean, and the breakfasts are very filling. There is tea available 24/7 (even when you arrive at midnight!) as well as homemade cookies. We were fortunate enough to get to speak with Brian quite a bit, and he was the most gracious host we have ever met. We've stayed at our share of bed and breakfasts, but this one stood out. We will stay at the Brickhouse Inn the next time we are in Gettysburg for sure! Thanks!

By the time we booked the only room left was the Virginia Room which was the smallest room at the inn. This room turned out to be perfect for us and we loved it. We spent much of our time away from the property but when we returned in the evening it was a welcome respite. The bed was comfortable and the shower refreshing. The bathroom was fairly large for a smaller room and we didn't feel cramped at all during our stay. Each morning we were welcomed by a scrumptious and more than filling breakfast to start our long days touring Gettysburg. The shoofly pie was great but the absolutely best part of the breakfast was the raspberry tart. They were also wonderful at accommodating special dietary needs. The property itself was wonderfully maintained inside and out. We were there in the cool of the fall but would love to return in the summer and lounge in the back yard/gardens. Lastly, the location was perfect. You can step out the door and head in any direction on foot and see the sites or find a great meal for lunch or dinner. Thanks Tessa, Brian, and everyone else that made our stay so pleasant.

Having read so many glowing reviews here, we had high expectations for our trip to the Brickhouse Inn in Gettysburg. While there was nothing terrible about our experience, we just did not find it to be as personable or intimate as we'd expected. Firstly the Inn is very large, 14 rooms, and as a couple we felt a bit lost in the shuffle. There are specific times for breakfast which we didn't like having to choose the day before, it would have been nice to have a range of times so you could sleep in a bit if you wanted in the morning. Also, the breakfast area is very tiny to serve so many people. We felt rushed and cramped, enough so that we skipped breakfast the second morning. The staff here is very pleasant but they are just that, staff. You don't get the feeling like you are staying in a home like you do with most b&b's. The owners were not present during our stay. Again, not terrible but not what we were expecting. Melanie was a gracious hostess, but she had a lot to handle with so many guests. The location is good if you want to be right in the middle of the downtown, the traffic was a bit noisy at night but didn't stop us from sleeping. The rooms were small but comfortable and everything was exceptionally clean. The parking situation left a lot to be desired, the lot is small and at the top of a hill, there are a lot of steps to negotiate. Not a huge deal for us, but I imagine it would preclude older folks from staying here. There was no type of concierge or bell person to assist with bags. While you can walk to several restaurants from the Inn, the battlefield does require a car to see all of it, so you have to worry about parking every time you return. Overall we felt a bit let down by our experience here. If you are comfortable with a more anonymous, less personal b&b stay then you will be fine here. Gettysburg has a lot of choices, and next time we will be finding a more intimate b&b to suit our preferences.

We stayed at the Brickhouse Inn the last week of September 2008 (am a bit late writing the review) and we could not have asked for a more perfect vacation - - due largely to our stay at this phenominal B&B. The stately home and adjoining Welty House (where our room was located) stood just a short walk from the quaint downtown area and all the fun places to shop and eat. Given our perfect weather, we were happily walking the town each day and literally, our car didn't have to move from arrival to departure. Being an older, married couple, we enjoyed the quiet charm of the neighborhood and the lovely gardens surrounding the residence. We had never stayed in a B&B and were a bit nervous, especially since we are smokers and you definitely would never ever smoke in this amazing home. But the comfort and welcome given to us by our hosts, Brian and Tess, put all of our fears to rest. The beautiful back patio which was just a step out of our door from the Alabama Room, was comfortable and inviting. When we wanted to smoke, this was the place to step to and it was perfect for us. Our Ghost Walk and DC Tour were pre-arranged by our lovely hosts and all that was left for us to do was unpack and enjoy every moment. From our Alabama room to the parlor to the gardens to the diningroom, we floated through that "other worldliness" that was the Civil War era. For a trip to Gettysburg, there was just no other way to go in our eyes. We were so sad to leave and vowed that we would return - and often - if possible. Don't miss a chance to have this experience. We guarantee you'll want to go back to the Brickhouse Inn.

We had never been to Gettysburg and wanted to be close to the battlefield. We got that plus so much more at the Brickhouse. Tessa and Brian were fabulous from the start. Brian talked me through room options (we were in "Kentucky" which was great). Tessa recommended things to do, including recommending a tour guide for a battlefield tour who was unbelievable.....we've travelled around the world, and this tour was the best we've ever had. They recommended seeing a Civil War home/museum just up the street which gave a great glimpse into what was happening 'in town' during the war. And their dinner recommendations were all tops. But probably the best surprise was the breakfast. By far the best "B&B breakfast we've ever had. All around a great stay. Thanks so much!!

My husband and I visited the Inn for the third time recently and as always, we were very impressed with every aspect of our stay. The rooms we've stayed in are quite large, yet very cozy and decorated as though it were the 1860's. When you go into the bathroom, you will find it is completely modern and very clean. Tessa, Brian and their staff do an incredible job of making their guests feel welcome and pampered, but there is still tremendous privacy. The breakfast menu is always a treat - it is home cooked, very hearty and perfectly presented (the raspberry tart is AMAZING!). After breakfast, we like to spend some time in the rocking chairs on the front porch, or we wander around the beautiful garden. We encourage anyone looking to fully experience Gettysburg to stay at the Brickhouse Inn - you will NOT be disappointed.

What a truly amazing Bed & Breakfast! We have gone to many over the years, from California to the NY Islands, but this was honestly one of the best ever!!! All of my special requests, celebrating my wife's doctorate degree, were met with outstanding service. The Lemon-Lemon cupcakes were a top-notch delight and were certainly a grand surprise to my beautiful wife. We loved meeting Brian at the back of the home with his arms elbow-deep in topsoil preparing the garden for the summer. What a lovely gentleman he is! Not only did he spend the time to give us a tour of his lovely house, but gave us some history of the area and dining and event recommendations. His choice for Ghost Tour WAS the BEST!!! And our reccommended tour guide, Mr. George Nelson, was a true delight. He had such knowledge and passion for the history at Gettysburg that there is no better way to see the Battlefield in our opinion. The rooms of the Brickhouse Inn gave you a true feeling of living in the days of yesteryear with all of the creature comforts of modern day. Our balcony from the North Carolina Suite was outstanding and it became a morning ritual to sway in the rocking chairs while watching the cardinals swoop through the back gardens. The breakfasts were worthy of the top cooking shows on the food network! Any special request was met and all glasses were kept full with the utmost of service. Simply a delicious way to start the day! The in-laws were also very pleased with the entire stay at the Brickhouse Inn. Having never planned trips ahead of time, they were so thankful that their amazing son-in-law :) took care of everything...especially getting them the New England Suite right down the hall which they adored. All in all, we will most certainly be back again, hopefully this autumn. Cheers to Brian and Tessa for creating an amazing destination for travellers to remember and treasure as a place they can call a second home.

We were very pleasantly surprised to find that the Brickhouse Inn exceeded our expectations. Our rooms were lovely and perfectly clean…the beds very comfortable, and the grounds beautiful. We very much enjoyed your staff and the delicious breakfasts we were served. We, of course, enjoyed meeting and talking to the two of you, as well…wish we’d had more time to exchange stories! All in all, the service was excellent, the people delightful, the food delicious, and the accommodations perfect for our needs. Thank you very much. If there was any downside at all, it was the street noise once or twice in the front room…and with my arthritis, I had a bit of a problem with the stairs to and from the parking lot…however, I walked up and down through the grass and past the fish pond which turned out to be much easier! Neither of these problems spoiled our visit in any way… George Newton was most knowledgeable about the battlefields, and we took advantage of the new visitors’ center…plus we toured the Eisenhower Farm. Our dinners at the Dobbin House and the Cashtown Inn were enjoyable and the history at the Cashtown Inn was very interesting. I speak for my whole group when I thank you for your hospitality and for making our time in Gettysburg so memorable.

The folks at The Brickhouse Inn had an excellent room for us, gave us a fantastic breakfast daily and had snacks available on a daily basis. They set us up on a personal tour of the battlefield, that certainly was the highlight of our trip. They were incredibly nice.

The Brickhouse Inn in historic Gettysburg was a wonderful choice. Full of history, run by a superb inn keeper, immaculately clean, comfortable room, outstanding breakfasts, on-the-money tips for the area...all in all, a terrific experience.

We happened on to this treasure and would highly recommend it to anyone. It was one of the best run B & B's we've ever stayed in. The rooms were immaculate and the breakfast delicious. The innkeepers were very helpful. The historic inn is in the perfect location--close to all the sites, restaurants and shopping. Lost of privacy and beautiful grounds.

They went out of their way to ensure that our stay was perfect. They were willing to set up dinner reservations as well as licensed battle field tours.

My fiance and I recently spent a weekend in Gettysburg, and stayed three nights at the Brickhouse Inn. It was by far the best hotel/bed and breakfast experience we've ever had. The Inn truly brings forth an old-world charm, and Tessa and Brian are simply delightful. The breakfasts were superb, and left us too filled to eat lunch. The Inn's central location made for a very short and convenient walk to the numerous shoppes and sites in Gettysburg. We would definitely recommend the Brickhouse Inn to anyone traveling to Gettysburg.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our two nights at the Brickhouse Inn. It's only fault was the MASSIVE, delicious breakfasts they serve...I could barely walk away from the table :) My husband was impressed enough to purchase the cookbook they sold as a gift for me! We visit Gettysburgh every year and were enthralled the the perfect location...we hope to visit again summer '08!

My husband and I very much enjoyed our beautiful stay at the Brickhouse Inn. This inn is in a great location for seeing Gettysburg attractions. It is a lovely accommodation and is kept immaculately clean. Because it is run in such an orderly manner, the normal chaos of traveling was non-existent and we enjoyed our historic surroundings without a care. The innkeepers were friendly and very helpful in giving us useful information to make our trip a memorable one.

We loved our first stay at the Brickhouse Inn – from the knowledgeable and gracious hosts,Brian/Tessa and staff,to the privacy and cleanliness of our lovely room, the Delaware, in a historic home with lovely, tranquil gardens in the heart of downtown garden–our stay was so very pleasant. Having made prior arrangements, our room had a bottle of chilled wine waiting as well as tickets to a ghost walk and tickets for ice cream sundaes. Great home cooked breakfasts each morning and lively conversations with other guests. Brian’s suggestion that if we walked to Culp’s Hill from the Inn, we could get a better perspective of the significance of the battle fought there was right on! While on our walk, we met several local folks who were so willing to point out things to look for which made it even more memorable from a historic point of view.

One of the best that we have ever used—domestically or internationally. Extremely convenient location; very clean; great outdoors; excellent service and breakfasts and great attention to the small things that make a B&B outstanding.

Beautiful Inn! The Brickhouse Inn was most comfortable, impeccably clean, and very well appointed. The location can't be beat...you can walk to almost anything, historical sites, great restaurants and cute shops. Brian arranged the drive along tour which is the best way to see the battlefields. Trust his recommendations for dinner as well. Breakfast, although tasty for me did not allow any choices (some of my friends had issues) and the one sitting did not allow for sleeping-in. I only mention these things so readers don't think all these reviews are entered by Brian and Tessa's friends or relatives! Don't forget to write a comment in your room's journal. (Check out mine in the Tennessee room) Overall, a wonderful property and one I would love to re-visit.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Bickhouse Inn and and from the time we booked our stay, the owners offered helpful advice and suggestions regarding touring the batlefield and places to dine and they offered to schedule reservations for us. The inn itself is spotless, comfortable and exudes history and the staff were polite and extremely helpful, plus the food was exceptional. We plan on going back to visit Gettysberg and we will be staying at the Brickhouse Inn again.

We had a wonderful stay! We walked to historical sites and great restaurants. Brian was extremely helpful, arranged an excellent battlefield tour guide, and was a font of local information. The room had porch with a view of the well-landscaped lawn and gardens. The breakfast and afternoon treats were great!

My husband and I stayed at the Brickhouse over Memorial Day weekend and absolutely loved it. Our stay was great from beginning to end. The owners arranged our battlefield tour guide, offered to make dinner reservations, and we quite attentive. We stayed in the North Carolina suite, which had its own porch with rockers. We were taken to our suite by the inn keeper, Brian, and he tended to all of our needs. The inn provided great afternoon snacks and the breakfast in the morning was served on the terrace by the inn keepers and the other staff. The garden was beautiful. We will definitely be back again.

This B&B is one of the best we've had the pleasure of enjoying. The Innkeepers and staff are very friendly & accomodating. We had a wonderful weekend. The breakfasts were a great way to start the day and were very well presented. The location couldn't be better, we walked to most of our destinations while we were there. The rooms are super comfortable and immaculatley kept. I even walked barefoot in the room and I never do that when I'm away from home! :) Beautiful place, can't wait to go back!

The Brickhouse Inn is perfect for seeing Gettysburg on foot - Lincoln Square, nice restaurants, ice cream parlors, Cemetary Ridge Battlefield and the National Cemetery are all easily "walkable", and the Brickhouse staff is great at providing directions and suggestions. The staff is also exceptional at providing delicious breakfasts! A wonderful B&B, and one we look forward to staying at again.

The Brickhous Inn was wonderful. The owners Tess and Brian are the nicest people as was everyone on their staff, especially Karen who greeted us on arrival. It is perfectly located for everything you might want to do at Gettysburg. Walking distance to outstanding restaurants, shops, and nice "watering troughs" for the ole war horse in you. Brian and Tess were full of superb recomendations for anything you may want to partake in while on your stay. The house and grounds are beautiful, plenty of off street parking, great patio for chating and a glass of wine in the evening. Extremely clean and fresh with very comfortable beds. Nice variety for breakfast so each day is something different. One day we had a horseback tour of the battlefields scheduled that conflicted with the breakfast schedule. The Brickhouse folks made us a breakfast to go. Just give them warning the day before and they will be happy to accomodate any special needs. GREAT place and people.

Our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast and it was outstanding! It was quiet, the rooms were incredibly clean, the breakfast was out of this world, and Brian was very helpful with suggestions. Also, the inn is within walking distance to almost everything. Would definitely recommend and hoping to visit again ourselves.

My husband and I stayed at The Brickhouse May 1-2. Our only regret was we did not stay another night! This was our first B&B experience and it was truly wonderful! Brian and Tessa were so nice and welcoming, we felt as though we were visiting old friends. Brian was kind enough to recommend several eating places, which ghost walk was the best and the best way to learn about the battlefield. Tessa had snacks out to munch on all day, lemonade, cold water, hot for tea or coffee, and the best peanut butter cookies! Yummmm! We stayed in the Kentucky room which was so nice, there was a seperate sitting room and a wonderful porch with rockers, that looks out to the garden. My husband and I utilized the porch for long hours of relaxation. Did I mention the bathroom has a claw foot tub? Truly relaxing! Another nice touch was the journal in our room. I sat and read through all the wonderful entrees from past guest. It is a great way to get ideas and recommendations for things to do. The breakfast was excellent, fresh fruit, breakfast cake, and the best egg, cheese, muffin recipe. Sorry I don't know the proper name of the dish but what I do know it was great! Of course you must follow up breakfast with a piece of shofly pie, again, outstanding! And finally last but not least, The Brickhouse is in walking distance to everything! We are planning on returning again next year. Thank you Tessa and Brian for making our first B&B experience a truly wonderful and unforgetable one!
