This facility is beautiful. Gorgeous victorian wood built-ins and decorative woodwork. The rooms are all different, each with handmade quilts and lovely antiques. The breakfasts were tasty and substantial (french toast, casserole) with fresh fruit, juice. The innkeepers made fresh coffee available early on request. The innkeepers are friendly and engaging without intruding. It was a real treat to stay there.

My husband and I wanted to stay somewhere outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Gettysburg, (which has gotten quite touristy and crowded) somewhere that allowed us to experience the countryside that the soldiers of this battle would have seen. The Bechtel Mansion is located in tiny, quaint East Berlin, just 20 minutes from the battlefields, and is a gem in every respect. This beautiful victorian inn is kept in immaculate and pristine period condition by innkeepers Carol and Richard. Not only has each room been lovingly restored and outfitted to perfectly fit the period in which this mansion was built, but the comfort and convenience of the guest is also kept to equally high standards. Often historic B and B's can be a little too historic, to the sacrifice of comfort, but the beds are so clean and high-quality, there are plenty of modern conveniences in each room (individual heat/air settings, down comforters, hairdryers, access to refrigerator and microwave, etc) and Carol's homemade breakfasts were delicious and wholesome. Carol and Richard also know quite a lot about the surrounding area and had great recommendations for places to see in Gettysburg, places to eat nearby and tips on where to find good antiques and yard sales, which abound in this area of the county! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again when next we visit Gettysburg!

This place was extremely good. The owners are very pleasant and are always around if you need them. The rooms are very clean and very well decorated. Outlets were easy to find for charging phones. No wifi, but your not here to play on the internet right? The food was incredible and perfect. The owners also were knowledgable of the history of the house. Easy parking, and only 2 turns and 20 minutes away from Gettysburg. The price was very good as well

My mother and I recently stayed at the Bechtel Mansion and we loved it! It captured just about every aspect of the Victorian era. There is one TV and no Wifi, which may be a setback for some, but for us, it was the perfect break from the real world. It was great to be able to go back in time a bit. Carol is such an amazing innkeeper! The place is literally spotless, even the trinkets were dustless! She is also wonderful to talk to. Breakfast was outstanding! Fresh fruit, apple crisp, coffee cake, scones, french toast, if you left hungry, it was your own fault! We didn't want just some hotel, we wanted a guinine inn that we could appreciate, and that is exactly what we got. Will definately be staying there again!

We enjoyed our stay in a beautiful home with character. But I must say the hospitality was an added bonus! They were very careful with my dietary needs - and breakfast was amazing! The conversation at breakfast was also a great way to start the day! The house is easy to find and on a main road. I'd definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

If you love the Victorian era, don't miss your chance to stay in this charming Inn. You couldn't ask for more personal, attention- to-detail service. I've had the pleasure of staying more than once and look forward to returning. Comfy beds, delicouse breakfast, gracious hosts. Step back in time, relax, get away from the hustle and bustle of modern living! Reasonably priced!

My girlfriend and I stayed one night in "Beulah's Boudoir." What a beautiful home! The owners have done an excellent job in restoring all of the Victorian charm to this house-- it didn't look like you could go wrong with any of the rooms. Our hosts provided an excellent breakfast and good conversation. Slightly off the beaten path, but well within convenient striking distance of York and Gettysburg. If you're hoping for dinner in town, we suggest you make reservations well in advance-- the nice places in town are popular with the locals and book up fast! We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our hosts, the wonderfully decorated and welcoming atmosphere, and our excellent breakfast. The updates to the historic home are impressive, giving you a well-maintained room in a Victorian setting. And Carol and Rick are conversational hosts who join you, rather than merely "doing their jobs" while you play the part of guests. All rooms are good, the Master is best, and I'd stay here again.

We had the most enjoyable stay that anyone could've imagine at the B&B. We could have not ask for better innkeepers then Rich and Carol. The breakfast that were prepared were superb! This B&B is very neat and charming. Anyone will not go wrong by staying here.

We were very impressed with our stay at the Bechtel Victorian Mansion Inn. Both Richard and Carol Carlson were extremely courteous and conversant. They spent time with us explaining the history and how the mansion was built. The breakfast was great and we had adequate portions. And yes, the mansion is haunted! Both my wife and I would be happy to stay there again.

If you do not appreciate the elegance of true Victorian architecture and ambiance, then this is not the place for you. If, on the other hand, you do, this is a gem not to be missed if you're anywhere in the area. It is worth the few extra miles if your Gettysburg bound, or just looking for a getaway (like we were). The experience is sweetened by a 5-star restaurant (Sydney) jus a few easy to walk blocks down the street. SK and KK/RC and MC

The inn keeper, Carol, is one of the nicest people I have met. She is very welcoming. She gave us a tour of the entire house. If you love historic places you will love this place. Breakfast every morning was fresh and delicious. I haven't eaten that well for breakfast in a long time. It's just 20 minutes from everything in Gettysburg. Our stay was everything we wanted it to be. I can't wait to go back.

Wonderful stay! Great hospitality from our hosts! Great conversation at breakfast with all of the others that stayed. We really enjoyed everything! Even the men, who thought us girls were "silly" for wanting to stay there, admitted the next day that they really enjoyed it and were glad that they had the experience!! Thank you Rich and Carol!!!
4,6 sur août 15, 2012
Our stay at the Bechtel was very pleasant! It's located only 20 min. from Gettysburg, making it a wonderful end to a park visit! It's also very close (20min) to the Gettysburg Wine and Fruit Trail which offers a number of wineries, orchards, and fruit markets. The price was reasonable and beats staying at a chain hotel!

This was a quaint little town and the house had great detail and furnishings. I didn't know what to expect for breakfast, but I guess I wasn't expecting 2 kinds of coffee cake; one cold one hot. The people were very nice.

I have stayed twice at Bechtel. It is much nicer than staying in a hotel! I am very comfortable there because of the beautifully decorated rooms and the innkeepers, Carol and Rich. I travel to East Berlin for Weaving Workshops at the Mannings and plan on staying at the Inn each time I come. BTW, the breakfasts and baked goods are FABULOUS!

Just passing through and very happy to have landed at the Bechtel. Lovely, hospitable, and interesting owners (Rich and Carol) - Carol prepared a delicious breakfast too. You've got to be content with top to bottom Victorian style - we certainly thought it was fun for a night (and you have to appreciate the hard work they've put into it - and into their garden). A few minutes' walk from Sidney - a restaurant worth travelling for - so you can stumble back without any problems!

My husband & I throughly enjoyed our first visit to a bed & breakfast and we had a wonderful experience. Carol & Rich are great people & they have the perfect personality to making their guests feel welcomed & at ease, as well as Rich 's knowledge of the Inn and the area and the great breakfast dishes that Carol creates for all. The Inn is beautifully decorated in the Victorian era and everything is clean and very inviting. We really had a great first experience in the Bechtel Victorian Mansion Inn B & B.

Recently, my husband and I stayed at Bechtel for a long getaway weekend; this was our first experience with a Bed and Breakfast, and we certainly were not let down!! Carol and Richard work very hard to keep this victorian style mansion to its absolute peak; it was clean, comfortable, and inviting! The only draw back of staying at this location versus other B and B's in the area is that Bechtel is located in East Berlin, which is about 30 minutes away from Gettysburg... but it is a pretty drive, and East Berlin is a quaint old town with a lot of character.

We wanted a mini 2nd honeymoon and Rich and Carol were very accomodating. We have been to several B&B's and this one is a little gem. We started our honeymoon out at the Bechtel Victorian Mansion, and I will say that we were more than pleased! It was the most beautiful Bed and Breakfast that we had ever been to! The Victorian feel was superb and the way the hosts (or the innkeepers) were so eager to help made the stay that much better! My favorite part was the breakfast! The food was incredible, but what made it better was that the innkeepers were approachable! They wanted to talk, they showed us around, they had stories to tell, and they made the beginning of our honeymoon a pleasure! Thanks to you Rich and Carol!

A t-shirt I saw in a cheap tourist trap in Intercourse, PA said, "Intercourse, PA: Everything I thought it would be!" Well, all joking aside, Bechtel Mansion was everything I hoped it would be, and more! The hostess and host were great people, the rooms were all wonderful (we had the Balcony suite for three for four nights), the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxing. I highly recommend using Bechtel mansion as a base for exploring Gettysburg. Lancaster county was a bit of a reach, but it is certainly doable as a day trip. Thanks for a very enjoyable week!

Beautiful B&B near Gettysburg. Rich with history. Innkeepers are friendly, warm, and breakfasts are very tasty and homemade. very good value. Rooms are beautifully decorated in period decor and it's easy to think you have time traveled back to the 1890s. Will stay here again--it's worth the few minutes travel from Gettysburg.

My hubby & I were looking for a nice anniversary weekdend away.We stay at B&B's & Inns often (MD,CT,VT,NH,NC,PA,RI,MA,ME) & knew it would be the right place for our special weekend. We stayed Sat & Sun nights. We took our time driving up, stopping for lunch before arriving around 3PM.We were met at the door by our wonderful hosts Carol & Rich who are so sweet, down to earth, very accomodating, friendly & shared many stories with us whether over breakfast or in between our meanderings in & out of the inn! We stayed in "Beulah's Bedoir" which has the only king size bed & fell in love w/the whole Victorian feel of the room & the house! Carol & Rich did a phenomenal job decorating & remodeling this home - WOW! I also collect Boyd's Bears so I loved walking thru the house looking at them all. We had homemade cookies waiting for us that were yummy & the breakfasts were out of this world-first a puff pastry filled w/sausage & veggies & then thick French bread slices baked w/sliced apples, brown sugar & butter. Heavenly! To start there is a fresh fruit cup, juice & either muffins or coffee cake! We never ate lunch either days! The inn is located in a very small town literally right across the street from a church w/a bell tower, so we got to hear the bells toll out each hour & the Carrilon (sp?) played on Sun morn was just beautiful. It took me a little bit to get used to the bells tolling-we live in the MD suburbs, butit was part of the small town charm. There is a bit of traffic noise to deal w/ since they are right on the main road thru town, but we weren't terribly bothered by it.Gettysburg is only about 20 mins away & I don't understand why people would choose a square white walled hotel room w/NO personality over this gorgeous home! We took pictures before we left & even got Carol & Rich to pose for one for my next scrapbooking project! We will be staying w/Carol & Rich again on our next overnight trip to Gettysburg, and we can't wait!

We stayed in the Master Bedroom (the red room) for the weekend before Valentine's Day. It was very nice, I loved all the red, very romantic, very Victorian. The bed was comfortable and firm. The breakfast was excellent and the owners were friendly (I appreciated the endless coffee!!!). Each breakfast had delicious fresh fruit and baked treats along with the yummy french toast/waffles. The nightly homemade treats were delicious, especially the chocolate covered strawberries. It was convenient to have the little fridge downstairs to put our snacks/drinks in. While there's no TV in the Master Bedroom (I didn't miss the TV, we went there to get away from everything) the owners do have movies in DVD or VHS format available to watch in the living room, or in the bedrooms. And there is a TV to watch in the living room. We brought a laptop so were able to watch the movies while relaxing in the room. Local restaurants are just a short walk away, a nice place to get away from the day-to-day of the city and relax.

We spent the weekend at the Bechtel Victorian Mansion Inn and it was wonderful. The Carlsons are the sweetest people you will ever meet. My husband and I spent a wonderful weekend at The Bechtel Victorian Mansion. We were greeted at the door by Carol who walked us to our room and gave us maps of Gettysburg and phone numbers of restaurants we would need to make call ahead reservations. She also filled us in on events happening during the weekend. Carol and Rich were warm and inviting. When we told them we were feeling a little guilty about taking a weekend vacation without our daughter (it was our first time away from her) they chatted with us and helped us relax and enjoy our vacation. The breakfasts were amazing and we had a wonderful group of people at the breakfast table to chat with. On Sunday we had orange french toast. It was delicious! The atmosphere of the house was clean and decorated well. We stayed in the Sarah Leas room. The bed was very comfortable and decorated in a girly manor. In there room, the was a bistro sized table and chairs where we sat after we returned to the B&B and watch the sights from the window. At first we were worried about how far of a drive East Berlin might be from Gettysburg since we had only seen the proximity of the two towns on a map. It took maybe 15 minutes for us to travel from East Berlin to Gettysburg. For us it was not a bother at all as we are used to heavy commutes. Staying there made us feel like we weren't so far from home. We will definitely be guests at The Bechtel Victorian Mansion for our visit to Gettysburg next year.

My husband and our best friends recently had the wonderful experience of staying in this impeccably clean and beautifully decorated B&B. We have stayed in many B&Bs in Cape May, NJ, PA and CT and this by far exceeded all of our other stays. Carol and Rich were very warm and welcoming. We truly enjoyed hearing about the history of the house and their various Gettysburg stories. The afternoon cookies were a nice treat and the morning breakfasts were delicious. Thanks so much for being a part of our special Gettysburg weekend getaway. Brian and Sue / Sue & Joe

The house is beautifully done and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the location is quiet, although there is some road noise on a busy Saturday night. The only thing that slightly marred our experience was the hostess complaining about how much work it was to have guests coming and going. As a guest in her B&B I would much rather be made to feel like it was a joy to have me there, not a bother! The breakfasts were good, if not what I was looking for. It was all homemade and fresh and the coffee was hot and plentiful.

We are sorry that you were given the wrong impression. First of all, something I said must have been taken totally out of context, or you caught the end of a conversation with another guest. When asked how many rooms we have and where do we live, I responded "We have 9 guestrooms - we used to do all 9 rooms, and during that time we slept in the basement. Now we do only 6 rooms - we moved up to the third floor because we were tired of hearing everyone walk around over our heads. And we now have some privacy which we didn't have before." By the way, our bed was under the dining room, where the floors are very squeaky. Second, due to the downturn of the economy, our reservations have waned. However, this month we were very fortunate to be able to fill up on weekends - something that hasn't happened in a while. We were overwhelmed and a little bit out of practice. We are so happy to have guests, we jump for joy with every reservation we get. Finally, we did have a very rude guest who was caught smoking in her room. We handled the matter quietly and tactfully, but that is enough to put anybody off.
