This was my first time in Portland and staying at a Bed and Breakfast, and wow was I impressed with Rose Cottage. My girlfriend and I arrived in Portland 2 hours before check in and Sally, the Inn Keeper, already had our rooms ready for us to settle into. We were so glad we could get our vacation started as soon as we arrived thanks to Sally. The house and rooms were beautiful and immaculately clean. We stayed in the Desert Rose which kind of has a modern log cabin feel to it. Warm wood planks covered the walls. There is also a beautiful mural of a desert horizon painted above the bay windows that can be lit up at night with a flip of a bed side switch. It really creates a nice cozy atmosphere. We also had a private bathroom that was stocked with everything you could possibly need. Sally was so hospitable, sweet, helpful, warm, professional, and knowledgeable about Oregon. We were given a key code to access the house on our own when we returned from our day in the city. It is a small B&B and very quiet and private, perfect for couples, families, or wandering souls. The next day was even even more amazing than the first because we woke up to attend an incredible 3 course gourmet breakfast at 9am prepared by Sally. Everything was pretty much organic, seasonal, and locally grown. Breakfast started out with fresh fruit. More specifically, 3 different types of melon with fresh lime. Then we had these amazing home-made skones with blackberry jelly preserves which went excellent with our cup of coffee. For the main course came a flawless 3 egg omelette with goat cheese, basil, and sun dried tomatoes with a smokey flavorful piece of ham on the side from locally raised pork. We truly felt like we were family to Sally. She welcomed us into her home with a warm and loving heart. I would come back to Sally's place in a heartbeat if I was traveling to Portland again. Be prepared to be spoiled by Sally and her wonderful B&B in everyway! Sincerely, Chris and Lourdes

Rose Cottage is a lovely house on a dead end street in a residential neighborhood, about 15 minutes from downtown Portland. Sally does an amazing job by herself, doing all the cooking and housekeeping. The breakfasts were wonderful gourmet meals with as many organic ingredients as she could find. We had the two-room suite, and it had all the comforts you could ask for. However, Sally expects children to be extremely well-behaved. I would not go here if I had lively small children or teenagers who speak their minds, no matter how politely. It was a problem for us, but the only one. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time.

The owner/innkeeper is very knowledgable about surrounding area and beyond. Very helpful in giving tips on where to eat, what to see, and how to get where you want to go avoiding major traffic jams. Sally is also a gourmet cook and each morning's breakfast was over the top. The B & B is located in a quiet area and you have your own private entrance so you can come and go as you wish.

We stayed in the ground floor Wild Rose suite - quiet, clean, nicely decorated and the size of a 1 bedroom apt. The location is a 5-10 minute drive from downtown Portland so you will need a car. Sally was a lovely innkeeper and she cooks delicious, very large portioned breakfasts. We did not eat again until late afternoon! She will happily reduce the portions if you ask her. Overall a very lovely stay!

Just stayed for two nights at Rose Cottage. Wonderful breakfasts made fresh with gourmet ingredients! Extremely helpful host. Room is fully equipped with whatever you need. I found the location, near 26 to the west of downtown, convenient to both the park (including the Japanese Garden and the Zoo) and the downtown area, which is an easy drive. Great value.

Rose Cottage is a little hard to find but very well worth the effort. The rooms are large, airy and comfortable. The breakfasts are fantastic; and the proprietor is a well-organized, extremely helpful, out-going person with a fund of entertaining stories

We really enjoyed our stay at the Rose Cottage. Sally is a wonderful innkeeper, and we enjoyed meeting her dog Archie. The room was lovely, clean, and made winding down at the end of the day much more relaxing than staying at a hotel. The breakfast each morning was outstanding. Sally was not intrusive and we felt comfortable coming and going as we desired. Sally was very helpful in suggesting places to go for winery tours, for dinner, and even called a local grocery store to inquire about the Mt. Hood strawberries! If we are back in the area and if the room is available, we will definitely plan to stay there again!

I enjoyed two lovely nights at Rose Cottage last weekend. It is located at the end of a very quiet dead-end street, which made for very restful sleep. The room (suite actually) was immaculately finished and maintained. It is more of a posh suite (purpose built for guests) than a re-purposed, quirky extra bedroom. The guest rooms are in a separate building from the main house. Both breakfasts were delicious and I enjoyed meeting the hostess and learning more about her interesting life. I plan to visit again.

We recently visited Portland to meet up with friends from another state. The setup of the rooms allowed for great visiting time while also allowing for privacy. The rooms are well appointed, spacious, spotlessly clean, and had very comfortable king sized beds. Sally is a gracious hostess who works hard to make sure her guests have everything they need for a wonderful visit. I can't say enough about the quality of the breakfasts. Each of the three days was different and delicious. I felt like we were eating in a gourmet restaurant! Great food, beautiful presentation! I recommend Rose Cottage B&B for couples traveling together or individually.

Wife and I were in Portland for the first time. Trip was a scouting attempt at a possible move to Portland. Sally was incredible in every way one could imagine. Without our asking, Sally took a lot of time to present us with maps, paper clipping and all around recommendation on all Portland. It was truly a great experience. We are going back to stay at Rose Cottage in May. Thank you Sally

Rose Cottage provided all our needs and more. The rooms were well-appointed, comfortable, quiet, spotless and well-maintained. Our innkeeper couldn't have been more cordial and helpful in offering local sightseeing information. And last but not at all least, the breakfasts were superb, varied, filling and delicious. Our room had a king bed, a roomy bathroom with shower, a jacuzzi separate from the bathroom, and a comfortable sitting area with a small fireplace. The B&B was in a separate building from the main residence with its own entrance. I would consider this B&B to be a good value. My husband and I will look forward to another stay with Sally Palmer on the occasion of our next visit.

We're repeat visitors to Rose Cottage, and could go on and on about it, but I'll start with the short version. The location—near the zoo, rose test garden and Japanesegarden, about 10 minutes by car from the center of downtown Portland—is exceptionally quiet and has free parking right in front. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Sally Palmer, the innkeeper, prepares fabulous gourmet breakfasts and is a great source of information about Portland and places beyond. This time, my husband and I stayed in the Desert Rose room, which has a king size bed and a large, en-suite bathroom (not to mention a charming mural of the mountains at sunset). My sister stayed in the adjacent Rosebud room, which has a double bed (my sister says it was even more comfortable than her bed at home). The bathroom is accessible only through the larger room, but that proved to be no problem for us, and using the Desert Rose and Rosebud room combination made things very comfortable and quite economical for us all. Sally's breakfasts are practically legendary: they're multi-course meals that begin with delicious juice, followed by fresh fruit, pastries warm from the oven, and then the main course, plus coffee or tea. Each day's menu was different, and all were delicious. Sally even shared recipes with us. After breakfasts like that, we weren't hungry again until long after noon! If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable base of operations for exploring Portland and other areas nearby, with scrumptious breakfasts to start your day, a wealth of suggestions about things to see and do, and an excellent, thoughtful innkeeper, you can't do better than Rose Cottage.

We wholeheartedly recommend the Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast in Portland, Oregon. It is close to Forest Park and downtown Portland. It is impossible to receive the quality of advice and suggestions at chain hotels as we received at this locally run B&B. Sally was a gracious hostess and her bountiful breakfasts are not to be missed. The suite was immaculate and well equipped with mini-frig, microwave, coffee maker, dvd player, wi-fi, and whirlpool

My husband and I stayed here for our 1st anniversary and birthdays (yes, they're all on the same day!) and are so glad we did. Our suite was immaculate, comfortable and homey, with a comfortable king-sized bed; beautiful, jetted tub with fun mural above; kitchen area; sitting room; walk-in shower and fireplace. Sally, the innkeeper, is an amazing hostess and chef. The three-course breakfasts were delicious (sweet and savory scones with various jams, fresh fruit, eggs bene, frittata, gourmet French toast - just to name a few). Everything is made with local, organic products. This B & B is also very close to the city (only a 10 minute drive from the Pearl District). We personally preferred staying in the outskirts of the city, while still being close, to avoid dealing with traffic and parking fees at city-based hotels. Sally went way above and beyond to make sure our visit was perfect! She recommended restaurants, places to visit and best routes to take to get there. If it hadn't been for her recommendations, we would have missed a lot of beautiful, scenic routes. We wouldn't stay anywhere else while in Portland and hope to come back soon for another visit!!

The Rose Cottage was such a pleasant surprise! I was looking for a place to stay near Beaverton and wanted to avoid the typical motel scene. Sally was a great host and my suite was comfortable, quiet and lovely in every way. She accommodated my dietary restrictions and served a scrumptious breakfast, even going out of her way to find me a gluten free morning muffin! A great choice if the hustle and bustle of downtown Portland is not your idea of a vacation.

My boyfriend took me on a trip to Portland for my birthday and we stayed at the Rose Cottage. I had never stayed at a B & B before but I was excited to give it a try. Rose Cottage exceeded my every expectation! I have always loved staying in hotels but Rose Cottage was a different and welcome change. The rooms are spacious and homey and the host, Sally, was so welcoming. I don't know what the other room is like but the room with the hot tub is lovely. It feels more like a small apartment without a full kitchen. The hot tub was glorious after a long day in the city. But by far the BEST part about Rose Cottage was the breakfast. I expected a buffet-like assortment of bagels, fruit, pastries, and maybe some eggs but Sally really goes above and beyond! Each morning we enjoyed a new creative dish, all of which were absolutely heavenly. So delicious! A lot of her ingredients are from local farmers and everything is organic! Veggie frittatas, ginger scones, sun dried tomato and goat cheese omelettes, ricotta and sour cream pancakes, bacon, blueberry scones, fresh juice, fruit, and croissants are a few of the items we go to enjoy! And we loved every bite! I would recommend Rose Cottage to anyone looking to have memorable and unique experience in the beautiful City of Roses!

We stayed at the Rose Cottage for a few nights this spring and were very pleasantly impressed. Mrs. Palmer provides a friendly welcome in the tradition of English B&Bs, an extremely gracious place to stay, and exceptional food. Be prepared to spend some time over these gourmet breakfast feasts. If you're in a hurry, best to ask for a "box breakfast" which is also offered. We highly recommend this B&B, which is tailored to adults young and old, but not for small children.

We stayed with Sally in April 2012 when we needed to get our MINI Cooper serviced. We chose Rose Cottage B&B because of the proximity to the Portland MINI dealership, which is a quick 5-minute walk away. Not only is this a convenient location for anyone who needs a MINI check up, you will be amazed at this wonderful Portland gem! The B&B is tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood and we had a peaceful, relaxing stay. Sally is a fantastic innkeeper and has a vast knowledge of all things Portland. Don't miss an opportunity to stay here! We'll certainly be back...

This was a really nice B&B, I think as good as any I've ever stayed in. It had modern appointments, good pricing, good location, every amenity was thought of. My only reservation is that the host had a lot of rules. Most of the rules are common sense, having to do with damage; they were just expressed in a manner that was off-putting at first. I've never been informed before that if I damaged something I'd be liable for not only the breakage but also lost income. It was a little strange.
5 sur avril 16, 2012
The neighborhood lacks charm but Rose Cottage more than makes up for it. The 4 course breakfast each day is worth the daily rate. Large rooms and living space are clean and well appointed.

The rooms were beautiful, well decorated, large and very comfortable. The innkeeper was there at a moments notice to help with all our travel plans.
4,8 sur avril 03, 2012
The innkeeper allowed us to make a last minute, one night only reservation for the night of our (more or less) impromptu wedding. The bed was soooo comfortable and the shower was great - felt like we were in a spa. We enjoyed the separate front room with the big TV and gas fireplace. Very new, clean and tasteful. Breakfast was fabulous too, although a little too gourmet for my new husband's traditional tastes, but "gourmet" is what you expect at a B&B, right?! I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. The B&B rooms are actually a separate building from the main residence, which is nice. The innkeeper was a sweet, lovely lady. Only drawbacks is that although it is very private and quiet, it is located in kind of a funky area/neighborhood (did not matter once inside, though) and the dining experience is located within the innkeeper's main residence so it feels a bit awkward. Still, a very nice experience all in all. We weren't able to try out the two person jacuzzi tub - but it looked great.

We visit our daughter in Portland frequently so we have sampled a few locations. The Rose Cottage is incredible. Innkeeper Sally was amazing. The breakfasts were wonderful and organic - typical - start out with a glass of fruit juice, then a freshly baked pastry such as a cranberry scone ( served with a different jan every day), then a bowl of fresh fruit, and finally the entree. Waffles, Goat cheese omelet, french toast, and eggs benedict were served while we were there. Needless to say we found a new home!

Rose Cottage was a perfectly fine place to stay. It is centrally located to downtown Beaverton and close to the freeway. The proprietor was a bit more social than we were up for after a long day, but not a big deal overall. The Desert Rose room was nice (if slightly kitschy) and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very well made and quite elaborate (3 courses). However, my wife and I would rather have at least a small menu of options to choose from so our preferences can be taken into account. In this case, the omelette I had was made with bell peppers. I really dislike bell peppers and we didn't have time for the proprietor to make something else. A bit of a nitpick, but having a set of options would avoid that problem.

Sally (innkeeper) is a revelation in the kitchen. She has a set of house rules that encourage guests to keep the rooms in absolute perfect shape, all the way down to the nifty jacuzzi tub. I never did ask about the interesting mural of a cowboy who was taking a soak in the tub but clearly left his peacemaker a bit too far from him in case of a hullabaloo. Whoa. Big detour there. Back to the review! The breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Sally keeps a strong focus on local and organic, which is a huge bonus for us locavore fanatics. The location was kind of odd, tucked away where you'd least expect it...but it was great! Quiet. Secluded. And amazing access to downtown Stumptown, wine country or the coast. This is a real treat. And Sally is a real charmer and resource for help. Plus, she is like a walking NPR station. A wonderful conversationalist and fun to chat with. Hooray for Cottage B&B. - Chris & Hil

We came down from Washington for a two night stay. There were four of us who were doing a "dinners drive-in and dives" weekend restaurant tour. We arrived Friday night late and left Sunday. In that there were four of us we rented both the Wild Rose Suite and the Desert Rose. The rooms were outstanding. Everything looks like it came out of a magazine. As to the innkeeper Sally Palmer, we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her in the mornings at breakfast. I cannot say enough about the breakfasts. As a result of the fantastic breakfasts, we ended up cutting back our trip to the actual restaurants that we had planned on coming down for. The inn is very close to the Max so we ended up using public transportation the entire weekend and let the car sit. Overall the experience was excellent and I will highly recommend the Rose Cottage to anyone wanting to stay in Portland. The price is about what you would pay for a downtown hotel but there is no comparison in value. We will with out doubt be going back. Thank you Sally for a fantastic stay.

From the moment we arrived, met jolly bubbly Sally and saw the accommodation we knew we had a Host that was determined to ensure we had her undivided attention. The ample breakfast that was presented each morning was an example of careful planing, dedicated preparation and thoughtfully presented. Her reserch to assist us with our travels and advice on the local attractions was of a great help. The guidelines that were clearly set out allowed us to feel at home. When in Portland one can't afford to stay anywhere else. We have stayed at B and B's in the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia, and at 15 B and B's in the USA on this vacation. The Rose Cottage is world class. Congratulation Sally. Dorothy and John, Australia.

Rose Cottage is a delightful, restful B&B which seems to be designed and operated for the sole purpose of raising one's spirit every morning and evening. My wife and I stayed in the Desert Rose Room for seven days recently, and enjoyed every minute. The room is large, prettily decorated in a country/mountain cabin style, with large windows which can be shuttered or actually opened, a huge, supremely comfortable king-size bed, a sitting area and, for those who absolutely must work, a working area by the windows. The bathroom is large and well appointed, with luxuriously thick towels, a glass-enclosed shower, and nice thoughtful touches throughout -- including a coffee maker that makes decent coffee. Everything, from the bathroom fixtures to the free WiFi, works perfectly. Everything is maintained, cleaned, polished, vacuumed, brushed, folded or organized to within an inch of its life; there's nothing left for the guest to do but relax and enjoy. The breakfast is a whole Portland experience by itself. It is prepared every morning by, and comes with the delightful company of, the Innkeeper herself, Sally Palmer. Everything served is fresh, plentiful, delicious, balanced and imaginative. It is a serious disincentive for lunch, but that was a sacrifice we were definitely willing to make every morning of our stay. We strongly recommend a stay at Rose Cottage when you visit Portland.

We stayed in the upstairs Desert Rose room and were delighted at the amenities--although the weather was wet and chilly, we were warmed by our welcome, the fabulous breakfasts and just 'hanging out'. We were delighted by the 'sunset' painted over the bank of shuttered west windows, especially in the evening with subtle lighting. Sally's attention to detail was extraordinary. Although within a short driving distance of the sights we wanted to see in Portland, we missed local walks and nearby dinner spots. We did enjoy the serenity--a nice anniversary getaway!

Because we found it in the dark, we were a little bit wary of the location (at the end of a street of duplexes), but inside it was a like a completely different world! It was far and away the nicest Bed and Breakfast at which we have ever stayed; the amenities were perfect to the last detail, and Sally's breakfast was better than perfect. Though we only got away 100 miles and just for the night, I felt as rested as though I'd had a proper vacation. Awesome!

We have stayed at Rose Cottage B&B four times, and we keep coming back. It is very close to downtown Portland, and the B&B couldn't be nicer. We stay in the Wild Rose Suite, which has a separate bedroom and living room area. We enjoy the fireplace in the evening, and often use the small kitchenette, too. You will sleep well in the comfy bed, with no sounds outdoors to disturb your sleep. Breakfast, served in Sally's home, is gourmet, presented in a lovely way, and is HUGE. You don't need lunch on a day you've had one of Sally's breakfasts. Please give Rose Cottage B&B a try. You won't be disappointed.

Pet owners should be aware, animals must be crated when left alone in the room and at night. They are not allowed on the bed or furniture. Also, this is not a great area for dog walking at night. Great attention to detail. Breakfasts are amazing. Rooms immaculate. Odd location.

Sally was a wonderful hostess as well as cook. The food was deliscious every morning and we spent a pleasant hour each morning eating her breakfasts and talking. Sally never let our coffee cups remain empty. Sally asked if we had dietary restrictions and we said "no" and then when she served grapefruit and two of us were on medication for high cholesterol we felt badly that we didn't let her know that. This was a lesson learned by us and we will communicate our dietary restrictions the next time we visit.

Our stay at the Rose Cottage B&B was a truly wonderful experience. The B&B is nestled in the perfect location to use as home base when exploring Portland and/or surrounding areas. The room was meticulously cleaned, very comfortable, and quiet. We were not around in the evenings to view the sunsets from the Desert Rose Room, but we did wake up every morning to views of blue skies with wisps of white clouds over green treetops. Perfect way to start the day, not to mention the amazing breakfasts! What Sally prepared every morning was absolutely delicious and kept you satiated well into the late afternoon. I stayed for a total of four days, and came back home so relaxed, as if I had been gone for weeks. The inn is well located with short drives to all of the sites. The gardens and patio are filled with roses, and lush foliage. A great place to meditate in the morning. I can't wait to go back for another visit.

Our experience at Rose Cottage was better than great! Firstly, Sally is the friend you want when traveling! Her suggestions on places to visit, along with loaning maps, places to dine (with up to date menus to help) made our visit fantastic. She even loaned me her winter coat and scarf (to cope with the snow on Mt Hood!). Other reviewers have mentioned her fabulous breakfasts; and I will concur! We went home with a wonderful recipe for scones which I can't wait to try! The accomodations were beautiful, sparkling clean and complete with anything we needed for a relaxed and happy stay. The bed was so comfortable - something you don't often find. She even made sure we had a nutritious packed breakfast to accompany us on day of departure, as we needed to leave very early and wouldn't be able to have a traditional breakfast. We would definitely stay at Rose Cottage again. (Her flowers are beautiful as well!).

There were so many "BEST"s about Rose Cottage it's hard to know where to start. Let me begin with the zippy trip to down town areas. Hardly 10 min away from Powell's (dntn Portland), this private getaway was as beautiful as it was handy. Now to Sally's amazing breakfasts! The quality and care applied to planning and prepping the all Organic meals was impressive. The ginger scones were direct from Heaven on High. Her concierge-like service to help us locate JUST the right restaurant, I've not experienced before--Kenny and Zuke's on Stark was just the right delicatessen food we were hankering for. The double jetted tub hit the spot after a tramp up and down the hill to the Japanese garden and the sitting room AND sun room made our spacious room seem like an apartment. Sally and Austin were the best hostess and canine team we've met. Do go to this Portland oasis-- you will be so happy you did. Discounts for a two night stay and an over 60 discount much appreciated. Sally is a most gracious host, and her lavish breakfasts became the highlight of my day. Her love of cooking shows in every detail. We couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to enjoy our vacation.

Sally is very strong on TLC. We felt very well-looked-after. The apartment we stayed in was pristine, with the worlds most comfortable bed!

Staying at the Rose Cottage B & B in Portland, Oregon was a true joy. The suite was spotless and comfortable with charming character and the food (mostly local and organic) was clearly created by an artist who loves her craft. Innkeeper Sally Palmer seems to think of every detail, and she abounds with good humor. I left my stay feeling like I was leaving a good friend.

We just got back from our trip to Portland and were mightly impressed with the Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast. All the usual things were there and very well done, but the details the innkeeper attended to and the thoughtfulness set this B&B well apart and above the rest. Beyond the rooms' comfort, furnishings, lighting and appointments, and the incredible breakfast of local, eco-friendly courses; Sally is one in a million.

Sally Palmer is the perfect hostess, warm, affable, with a ready smile and laugh. What impressed us was the thought and attention to detail she has given not just to every appointment in the suite and the careful selection of ingredients in her unbelievably great breakfasts (may be the best omelette I have ever had), but even attention to the plants in her garden! Truly a wonderful place, and very convenient to downtown. - Scott & Maureen Holmberg, Atlanta, GA

We recently stayed at the Rose Cottage B&B from May 2, 2009 to May 4, 2009. We were greeted most warmly by Innkeeper, Sally Palmer. She gave us a tour of our suite, "The Wild Rose." Upon entering the suite we were in instant awe. The exquisite modern decor, amenities (sitting area with fireplace, TV and service area) and impeccable houskeeping were most obvious. We felt extremly comfortable and at home in this top notch, spacious B&B. We were even more impressed the next morning with the plentiful, 4-course gourmet, delicious breakfast that Sally served using only the freshest ingredients. It is most evident that Sally takes great pride and loves serving those fortunate enough to stay at her B&B. She was most helpful in suggesting restaurants and local areas of interest. Without hesitation, she willing accommodated breakfast due to our very early departure. As a frequent B&B visitor, it is evident that the level of service and amenities offered by Sally and The Rose Cottage surpass the majority of B&Bs that we have experienced. Sally's careful attention to detail is evident both inside and outside the B&B. When in the Portland area, treat yourself and experience the utmost in service and quality, stay at the The Rose Cottage. Glenda Vietinghoff Linda Groff Ocala, Florida

We stayed for two wonderful weeks in Portland in September 2008 and enjoyed what Oregon has to offer. But even better than the beautiful Oregon Coast was Sally's Rose Cottage! The rooms are charmingly and very tastefully furnished. Every wish you could possibly have is already taken care of and the breakfast is sheer poetry! We still love to reminisce the great time and hospitaliy we enjoyed at the Rose Cottage. Ulla & Horst

Sally sets the breakfast table with a bit of English tranquility. Be ready for a breakfast event. Sally puts thought and careful preparation into each mornings fare. You will feel pampered. The rooms are immaculate with their own themes. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Sally also loves to help with your touring of the Portland and surrounding areas, be sure and ask her input on your plans. Will stay there again.

This is the second time we have come to Portland and stayed at the Rose Cottage. It was like coming home. The cozy rooms with the comfortable beds were only outdone by the over the top breakfast provided by the Innkeeper. I could not recommend it higher. - Howard & Mary-Beth, Albuquerque, NM

What a find. Sally is simply the best. Her breakfasts are delicious, her inn is immaculate and is very nicely decorated. Thanks to B&B.com, we found this little treasure.

Rose Cottage is run by a wonderful lady who is the perfect hostess. The breakfasts were delightful and varied, and the rooms and location were great. We were expecting to cab it to various spots when needed, but that was not necessary as the excellent public transportation (bus to trains) runs right near by. Our experience in Portland couldn't have been better, and Sally (the hostess) is a dog person, which makes it perfect for us.

We recently stayed at Sally Palmer's lovely Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast in Portland and cannot recommend it highly enough. Inside, the private rooms are beautiful, spacious and clean; outside, the grounds and seating areas are private, lush and inviting. And best of all, the breakfasts are outstanding! We really appreciated the priority that Sally places on local, fresh, organic ingredients, plus she is a fabulous cook. We look forward to returning to Rose Cottage and enjoying the charm, beauty and great value again.

Our stay at Rose Cottage in July 2008 was completely delightful. Sally's gourmet breakfasts were lavish and delicious. Our rooms--the Rose Suite--were large, bright, and tastefully decorated, as well as absolutely spotless. The bed was comfortable, the linens soft, and the towels fluffy. We appreciated the small refrigerator, microwave and dishes provided (especially after our innkeeper made restaurant reservations for us, since we could bring back leftovers and dessert). The building is tucked away in a cul-de-sac at the edge of the city--it was challenging to find at first--yet it doesn't take long to drive into downtown Portland, and as a light sleeper, I truly loved the quiet setting. There's plenty of room for parking. (Sports car fans, take note: there's a Lotus dealership around the corner.) Sally was very helpful, always ready to share suggestions, driving instructions, maps and visitors' guides. Our only regrets are that we didn't have time to use the suite's huge whirlpool tub, and that we couldn't stay even longer. I would certainly stay here again, and recommend it to anyone visiting the Portland area.

We stayed at Rose Cottage in August 2008. The suburban location is unremarkable, but it is only a 10-minute drive to downtown Portland. The house is new and was built as a B&B with two 2-room apartments separated from the main house by a breezeway. The apartments are roomy, scrupulously clean, with a great shower, and fully equipped, including a small kitchenette. Sally the proprietor is an experienced B&B host, with an intimate knowledge of Portland. Don't plan on an early start. Breakfast "starts" at 8:30, but will take an hour. It is well-spent time, however, since Sally will regale you with facts, recommendations, and stories while she is preparing a fabulous, heavily local food gourmet breakfast. We got a little impatient with the process, it really was worth the time involved. Very highly recommended.

We couldn't ask for a more gracious and friendly host than Sally. Our accomodations were comfortable and very clean. And Sally's breakfasts are the best! This is a perfect place to stay while visiting Portland.

We have stayed at the Rose Cottage three times and are returning this October. This is the perfect place to relax and be pampered. Sally has attended to every detail. The suite is beautiful, spacious and expertly decorated. Sally is a fabulous chef and the breakfasts are amazing. We always look forward to beginnng our day with a creative and tasty breakfast and interesting conversation with Sally. The location is perfect for going in any direction, and we have been able to see so many things that we wouldn't know about if Sally hadn't told us about them. She knows about all of the hidden gems as well as the regular tourist spots in Portland. We would not consider staying anywhere else when in Portland. At The Rose Cottage you have a perfect location, outstanding accomodations, gourmet food and a wonderful host. Robyn and Raymond

We were pleasantly surprised by the Rose Cottage. It is centrally located to the Portland area. Our room was immaculately clean and the innkeeper was warm and friendly with an in depth knowledge of Oregon. We had a daily gourmet organic breakfast and she was helpful with suggestions as to restaurants and places of interest. We highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast experience.

Our stays have all been relaxing and stress-free. We stay at Rose Cottage whenever we are in Portland because it is close to everything in town and also close to the Oregon wine country. We love driving out to the coast for a day.
