We enjoyed our recent stay at Down Home B&B in beautiful Niagara on the Lake.It was very clean,the breakfasts were delicious and the conversation delightful! Sandy and Jim were excellent hosts who really made us feel welcome and comfortable.They even accomadated us with an early breakfast so we could leave by 8 AM on our last day.This B&B is beautiful.

Quaint B&B with a nice property, comfortable rooms, and friendly owners. On a quiet side street within 5-minute walk of downtown NOTL. Room (Bordeaux) was beautiful, and bed very comfortable. Room included mini-fridge, which was a bonus. Breakfasts were interesting - peach/cheese omelette, baked French toast - but very tasty, and there was more than enough food. However, be prepared to wake up a little earlier than you might like - breakfast is at 8:30am, so no sleep-in. Recommend calling to confirm reservations before showing up - we booked a wine tour package, and the online reservation system is apparently a little buggy, as it reserved our rooms but not the package. James was able to work out a special tour (which was probably better than the regular one anyway!), but we were a little concerned initially.

Great value ! The inkeepers, Sandy and James were wonderful with us. They helped with recommendations for local attractions, dinning , things to do. The breakfasts were delicious and we even have the chance to try James' great homemade wine!! The rooms were spotless, the location is perfect : walking distance to all the attractions in Niagara-on-the-Lake, in a quite street and surrounded by Sandy's beautifully designed garden. I would not hesitate to recommend this B&B .

A New Favorite!

After visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake several times, it was a natural choice when looking to get away for a little alone time. After viewing the pictures, I knew I'd love DownHome and I was not disappointed! Both my room and bathroom were amazingly clean and the gardens provided the tranquility I needed. Sandy and James were wonderful hosts... accomodating and helpful while still allowing me to enjoy the property on my own. Did I mention the wonderful breakfast? I enjoyed the various courses (all were fabulous!) on the deck overlooking the waterfall. This has been my best B&B experience yet... not only will I return, I will also recommend DownHome to all who are visiting the area!

Celebrating our Anniversary

This being our first experience with a B&B, we both came away with a very good feeling. The accomodations were very clean and pretty. The host and hostess were very friendly (including Thomas the cat) and treated us very warmly. The breakfasts were quite tasty and offered variety and the proportions met our needs. The gardens were lovely with a "soothing waterfalls" to listen to.

Kirkland brand Costco breakfast for $175

Stay here if you want to eat a Kirkland brand Costco breakfast for $175. I have never posted a review of a business before but I think this b&b is such a disappointment that I would like to save others from wasting their $175--I am sure there are other innkeepers in the area much more deserving of your money. 1. First, the room sizes are misrepresented. I was told that our room was “spacious” when in fact it was so small that the bed was placed at a diagonal in the room so that the window and bathroom door were both accessible. 2. Second, the bathroom was dirty. There were hairs on the window sill, the baseboards, and the floors. 3. Finally, the food was mediocre at best and the hosts were not generous. When I asked for some juice in the morning (I do not drink coffee) I was asked to wait until 830, the official breakfast time. When the juice arrived it was first, Five Alive, and then, when that ran out, oj made from concentrate that was so weak that it tasted like the water you pour into your juice glass when you are done drinking your juice. Unfortunately, this is not an exaggeration. I don’t expect fresh squeezed juice, but for $175 I did expect to drink something other than 10% juice in the mornings. The yogurt serving size in the first course was about 3 tablespoons. Guests were not given a choice of sweet or savory meals and no meat was served either morning. Sunday pancakes were bitter with baking soda. All guests at the table, including men, were served three 4 inch pancakes and were not offered a second helping. Portions in general were so small that the hostess noted during day 2 that they have “slivers” of blueberry pie and that no more was available. Luckily, the pie, as well as the apple cobbler offered the previous day, was of such low quality that even I, a sugar junky, could not eat either dessert. After breakfast the second day my husband and I actually went to a bakery after breakfast in order to get some more food.

We at Downhome value all feedback. We are sorry that your stay with us did not meet with your expectation. We do our best to address any issues made known to us. Our lounge has a coffee/tea station with cookies made at a local bakery. We also have both milk chocolates and dark chocolates available at all times. Our guests can use these facilities any time. All of our rooms have queen sized pillow top mattress beds with two chairs and a table/desk. All rooms have ensuite baths with bath robes. We take pride in the cleanliness of our rooms and ozoneate each between guests to provide that extra measure of safety. We offer full three course breakfasts and can accommodate vegetarians, vegens, diabetics, and those who are gluten intolerant. Our first course is a fruit plate with garnish which in some cases is Activa yogurt. When is season, we offer local fruits including strawberries, cherries, melons, and peaches and even include a main course omelet made with peaches and cheddar cheese with some of our own peach wine drizzled over top. Our deserts include locally baked pies and homemade favorites such as Rhubarb or Peach Fool. Guests can always have second and thirds if wanted. If the weather is good, guests can go outside and have their coffee or tea on our deck overlooking our garden with pond and waterfall. DownHome also offers three wine tour packages, two dinner packages, and a golf package. Our wine tours are the most informative of any in our area and depending on the tour can offer lunch or dinner at an award wining winery restaurant. We also provide custom designed self guided wine tours for those who want to do their own touring. We are committed to give our guests that happy DownHome feeling.
