Felician House is the former nunnery of the Catholic church across the street. As a little background, the Felician Sisters are an order of nuns founded in Warsaw, Poland in 1855. How they got to Canton, NY, I have no idea. The converted back end of the house has three bedrooms, a comfortably furnished living room with a small outside deck, and a nice eat-in kitchen. The rooms, all non-smoking, have queen size beds and private bath. A/C is available, although I didn't need it as the nights were pleasantly cool (even in July). Located just a few blocks off Main St., all of the downtown establishments are definitely within walking distance. The proprietor, Heather Gilson, has been running the B&B for 3-4 years, and she says that business is starting to take off. Heather is, like all B&B proprietors, outgoing and friendly. She made me feel right at home. Breakfast on Saturday consisted of a nice broccoli, bacon and cheese pseudo-quiche (no crust, but very tasty), some fresh-baked muffins, juice and coffee. Since I was eating alone, I had seconds. Heather kept me company during breakfast, nursing a cup of coffee while we talked about the local scene. All in all, I would definitely go back and I'd recommend Felician House to anyone visiting Canton, St. Lawrence County, NY. Cheaper than the Best Western in town, with a very welcoming hostess. Mike
