The Seafaring Maiden B&B was truly a home away from home & all thanks to Ann-Marie & Bill. Ann-Marie & Bill are 2 of the friendliest people we've ever met. You feel like you're visiting friends not staying at a B&B! This place definitely made our "go to" place the next time we're in the area & we will be recommending it to everyone! They constantly went out of their way to make sure your stay was perfect. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. We slept like logs the 2 nights we stayed there. The fresh coffee that was put out around 7am each morning was the perfect way to start the day, curled up on the armchair by the window on the 2nd floor. The breakfasts were nothing short of amazing and very filling. I've been craving Ann-Marie's frittata with sausage & her freshly baked homemade biscuits that just melt in your mouth and pair up perfectly with the most amazing carrot jam ever (it really does taste like carrot cake). We all had so much fun chatting with Bill during breakfast that it was hard to get up & get on with the day (on top of being so full of good food as well) we could have just stayed there all day. The house is a gorgeous historic property in Grenville Ferry, with a great view of Annapolis Royal across the river. It's a very short drive to Annapolis Royal (under 5min) & there's plenty of free parking throughout the town so don't let location stop you from booking this amazing B&B for your stay.

We stayed two nights at "A Seafaring Maiden" in Granville Ferry, NS. Our hosts were lovely and gave us a lot of information on the area and what was happening during our stay which we appreciated. We arrived late on the first day of our stay...just in time to drop our luggage and get to the graveyard for an evening "Graveyard Tour" which included lanterns to light our way...a very interesting tour!! Our hosts were great and the breakfasts were wonderful. Thank you to Bill and AnnMarie for opening their home to us.

On July 31st, 2011, after having cycled approximately 119km (Liverpool to Granville Ferry), we were met by two of the friendliest people, namely Anne Marie and Bill, the owners/operators of the Seafaring Maiden. We were promptly provided with our very well decorated and immaculate room. After a well deserved shower, we conversed with the owners in the kitchen area and learned about what the area had to offer in terms of what to visit and also of the history surrounding the Annapolis Royal area. As luck has it, on this very day, the Village of Annapolis Royal were having a celebration and part of the celebration included fireworks, which we were able to enjoy while sitting on the front veranda of the Seafaring Maiden, sipping on a homemade brew. The delicious breakfast provided us with ample carbs, according us with the required energy to continue on our cycling journey. We definitely recommend that you stay at the Seafaring Maiden whenever you are in the Annapolis Royal area. Claude & Wanda Ottawa, ON

This one is a gem that I will go back to again and again. The minute I left I wanted to go back and sleep in those soft comby beds, eat some more of that amazing breakfast, and get to know the charming and friendly hosts. Bill and Anne Marie go to great lengths to ensure your stay will be perfect. Thanks so much guys!

Simply the best B&B in Nova Scotia. Leagues ahead of all the competition, even those double the price. Bill and Anne-Marie obviously love the business as from the moment we arrived to walking us out to our car, we felt at home. Great local advise, fabulous rooms and décor and our breakfast was a treat of harvest apple crumble and pancakes to die for. Dont travel to Nova Scotia without a stay at the Seafaring Maiden

From their warm and open-hearted greeting to their helpfulness with all aspects of our stay, Ann Marie and Bill Monk were the epitome of gracious, knowledgeable B&B hosts. They accommodated my gluten-free request for breakfast, suggested a place for dinner in Annapolis Royal, and shared their stories about their connection to the house and the area. We stayed in 'The Bessie' room which was spacious, beautifully and tastefully furnished (not overloaded with Victorian doo-dads) and extremely comfortable. The separate bathroom was pristine. This is one of the best B&B's we've stayed in anywhere - Ann Marie and Bill set a very high standard both for the accommodations and as hosts - and we would highly recommend 'A Seafaring Maiden' for exploring the Annapolis Royal area!

The three nights at the Seafaring Maiden was the highlight of our two week trip to the Maritime Province. Bill and Anne Marie certainly know Southern hospitality from their Southern roots. From the best breakfasts of our trip to the things to do and places to eat recommendations from Bill, this was a wonderful stay.

My husband and I have stayed in B&Bs all over Canada, England,Wales,Denmark, and Norway, and this is one of our favourites. This is due to not only top notch hosts, but we love the spacious bedrooms and the wonderful breakfasts. Bill and Anne Marie use local foods when possible and our stay last weekend was no exception. Blueberry french bread with maple syrup. Both the blueberries and the maple syrup were from the surrounding area. Also, we love the quaint village of Granville Ferry with its wonderful view of Annapolis Royal across the river.

Our stay with Ann Marie and Bill was outstanding. I thought I was going to be staying at "your average" B&B until we pulled up and saw this beautiful house with a kitty lying on the front lawn waiting to greet us with a meow "Hello". When we got to the front door, Bill and Marie were there to greet us right away and we had an overwhelming feeling of being welcomed. From the coffee right outside our bedroom door every morning at 7am, to the breakfast that was to die for, we couldn't have wanted for a single thing. I think of our stay often and do plan to return! I highly recommend this beautiful B&B. Thank you so Ann Marie and Bill for our outstanding experience with you in your beautiful home! Congratulations on your becoming #1 B&B when we were there, high five! We wish you all the best and God Bless . . . Until next time . . . . Linda, Patty & Gil Hall

We had a wonderful 4 day visit with Ann Marie and Bill in late August and September in their clean well located home. Words can not begin to express the wonderful treatment we received and the personal care they provided. Having many B&Bs in several countries I rate them the best I've experienced in the last 20 years of travel. In fact we miss the morning breakfast almost as much as the friendly visits with both Bill and Ann Marie.

As many reviews have already stated, Bill and Anne Marie were the perfect hosts. The grand old house and amenities were great, the views stunning and the breakfasts were both generous and delightful. We stayed three nights and would have loved to stay longer. Bill was most helpful in assisting with sightseeing plans and even pulled a few strings when a whale watching tour seemingly had no spaces left! I would recommend A Seafaring Maiden without reservation!!

After two days and 1000 miles of traveling we were ready to spend several days in one place. We could not have picked a better location or hostel. The Anapolis Valley is both interesting and beautiful. The "Seafaring Maiden" is a very well restored late 19th century B&B with all necessary conveniences. The period furnishings are very well chosen and promote a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The real treasures, however, are Bill And Marie. Courteous, resourceful, friendly, helpful are just a few of the adjectives which describe them. The "Seafaring Maiden" is a "can't be beat" choice for anyone traveling in the area. Stayed at a Seafaring Maiden in October leaf season. The facility was outstanding, clean, comfortable, well maintained. What made the stay even better was the friendly, customer service approach of our hosts, Bill and AnnMarie. They could not have been more helpful, courteous or friendly. I stayed at A Seafaring Maiden on 2 occasions for 4 nights total during my recent 3 week stay in Nova Scotia. When I came back the second time, it felt like coming home. AnnMarie and Bill's attention to detail and their genuinely hospitable personalities are amazing. I've stayed at many B&Bs in the UK, Europe and Canada and this was by far my most pleasant experience. The house is beautiful, the rooms more than comfy, the cuisine delectable, but AnnMarie and Bill are what make it so special. It was recommended to me and you can be sure that I have heartily thanked the recommender. The 7 am coffee service outside your room is a wonderful and welcome touch. Jane Borecky, London, Ontario.

We were pleasantly accommodated. Being pleasantly and enthusiastically greeted, our initial impressions were very good. Bil and Ann Marie went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and were more than willing to make phone calls for us. They were honest with people's experiences of the local restaurants as they recommended places to eat. Also were very helpful in suggesting local sights and places to see. When we came back to the house late, Bill waited up to make sure we got back OK. The rooms were comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was as a breakfast should be... good and filling. ...while they waited on us. Our overall experience was delightful. Keep up the good work, Bill and Ann Marie!

We stayed 3 nights at this B&B last week and our stay couldn't have been more enjoyable. The "Captain Room" was delightful, with lovely linens and plush towels. Three ladies and I stayed with Bill and AnnMarie for three nights. They were unbelievable hosts. They suggested things we might like to do; they invited us to go to church with AnnMarie; they invited us to a potluck dinner at the home of their friends; but most of all, they became like friends to all of us. It was a delightful three days and we all hope to return one day to visit. If you go to that area of Nova Scotia, you must stay with Bill and AnnMarie.

A well-appointed heritage home, 4-star accom., a different, delicious home-made breakfast each morning, tea at your door, lemonade on the veranda and a knowledgeable, thoughtful, and obliging host (and hostess) helped make our stay in Annapolis Royal a memorable one. On Wednesday June 23,2010 my friend and i stayed at A Seafaring Maiden Bed and Breakfast. I have to say, what impressed me most was the attention to detail, and the thoughtfulness and hospitality. Right from the first- when enquiring by email, the proprietors were the first to call back, and even pencilled us in until we finished making our travel plans. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted, our baggage stowed, and treated to a hot drink. The promised extra bed turned out to be a cosy 3 quarter bed- a welcome sight to a weary traveller. In the morning- coffee outside the room. A welcome pick me up for an early morning hike through picturesque Granville Ferry. Returning, a home cooked gourmet breakfast greeted me. The dining room is elegant, yet comfortable for conversation with our fellow guests. We were attending the Membertou400 celebrations in Port Royal. Our hosts provided us with comfortable folding chairs and umbrellas for sun or rain. That gave us the opportunity to appreciate the grounds again, when we returned their property to them later that afternoon. Always, their thoughtful service was pleasant but never obtrusive. For that alone, i would recommend this B&B. The house and grounds are tastefully arrayed, and in immaculate condition. My only regret is not have more time to spend there to appreciate them, and the wonderful hosts!

My friend and I arrived late, and in wet weather, to the Seafaring Maiden, but the warm greeting that we received here, made us feel right at home. After being treated to some hot tea and a tasty truffle, we settled in for a quiet and comfy night in the tastefully and beautifully decorated "Captain's Room". To accommodate us, Bill and Ann Marie had an extra bed moved into this very spacious room before we arrived. Here we found ourselves sitting on our beds and admiring the charm and the history all around us. We couldn't help but wonder about the old Captain... and about his daughter who had sailed her father's boat home to safety once when her father fell sick. As I snuggled under the covers on my comfy bed and closed my eyes, I could feel myself on the waves once again, waves that I had experienced earlier that day while on a whale-watching tour on the beautiful Bay of Fundy. I soon found myself drifting off to sleep on the old Captain's boat... I mean bed, but I really did feel like I was on a seafaring adventure with the old guy and his daughter. It was wonderful! The next morning, coffee was delivered outside our door; I sipped it while sitting in bed and making plans for the day. At about 8:30 I joined a small but interesting and fun group of people for a tasty, healthy, homemade breakfast while my friend went for her morning hike around nearby Annapolis Royal. Soon we were off to experience the 400th anniversary celebration of the baptism of Grand Chief Membertou at nearby historic Port Royal, where Champlain built the Habitation in 1605, but not before Bill and Ann Marie generously provided us with their umbrellas and chairs for the event. Afterward, we took in the breathtaking scenery around the Annapolis Basin under a glorious, sunny sky before heading home. I can't wait to go back and spend more time in this beautiful home with the old Captain.

We can't say enough about our experience at A Seafaring Maiden! We stayed at a dozen B&B's on our travels around the Marintimes and this one was by far the best. Not only were the hosts Bill and Ann Marie the most helpful and freindliest but the details that they incorperate to make their guests feel welcome surpass everyone else. From the coffee waiting outside your room when you rise early in the morning to the 5 star food, you won't find a better B&B, all for a very reasonable price. We will return,Randy and Wendy.

I knew from my earlier e-mail contact that Bill and AnnMarie were sensitive to their guests' needs but their thoughtfulness exceeded my expectations. Books in my room seemed to have been specially chosen for me. Morning coffee left outside the bedroom, delicious homecooking, soothing music in the background --it all left me feeling pampered, relaxed and cared for. The quilt on the bed was handmade, the view across the water to Annapolis Royal is pretty, and the house itself is lovely. I cannot imagine better hosts or a nicer setting from which to explore this area. LF, Nova Scotia

This was by far the best place we stayed in Nova Scotia in every way. We expected a lot and our expectations were exceeded. The breakfasts were unique and the best we have experienced anwhere ever. Sheila requested Bills Apple Pancake Breakfast for our last morning here. He assured us that "It gives slow energy release all day." Later that day when our (new) Ford rental car fried its computer at the most remote part of the National Park we had to wait 5 hours to be rcovered and didn't eat again until 8pm! Remarkably, we were not particularly hungry by then! So - If you are visiting this region and Bill and Ann Marie have a room free book it quickly before anyone else does. If you are really lucky, Bill might do the same breakfast for you - but whatever is served it will be first class. Chris and Sheila; Bristol, England

We have traveled extensively, and have never stayed with more gracious, welcoming, and accommodating hosts. It is clear that the Monks love what they do. Bill and Ann Marie treated us like family; we arrived late on the first night, but were still greeted with open arms. They enjoy sharing their lovingly restored family home which is a heritage property, making our stay even more special. We are so happy we made the decision to stay at A Seafaring Maiden instead of staying in Annapolis Royal proper; their home overlooks the Annapolis River and Annapolis Royal so we enjoyed much better views and we were still just a stones’ throw from all the sites and attractions. Their repertoire of gourmet breakfasts was amazing, and satisfying (we could have easily skipped lunch). When we return we plan to stay at A Seafaring Maiden. This inn is just across the river from Annapolis Royal (where the ferry use to tie up), with a beautiful view of the historic city's waterfront from the upstairs bedrooms. Anne Marie and Bill Monk, the proprietors are exceedingly generous and thoughtful with their hospitality and advice for visitors. For instance, prior to my sister, mother, nephew, and I arriving we mentioned that we were making this trip in part to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. They remembered and helped us commemorate the occasion. Each morning, they thought with us about our plans and provided helpful advice on all manner of local activities, historical sites, restaurants, and stores. They also helped us with our geneological research, making our family vacation both unique and memorable. My nephew and I particularly liked the interesting and entertaining moonlight tour of the historic Annapolis Royal cemetery and the natural beauty of kayaking in the Kejimkujik National Park. Finally, Anne Marie's breakfast's are "to die for," and made it especially difficult to leave. I have stayed at several different small inns and B&B's in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan and never felt as welcomed and cared for as I was at A Seafaring Maiden.

After a long journey, my sister and I ended up at the Seafaring Maiden in beautiful Annapolis Royal. What a welcome! We felt right at home. The sun was out and we decided to make ourselves comfortable on the longchairs in the back yard. 'All that's missin' is a cold beer', we heard the neighbor say. 'A glas of wine would be nice, too!' we responded. Next thing we know, the phone rings... turned out it's the neighbor letting Bill know that his guests would appreciate a glass of wine. And so it came about that my sister and I got to enjoy a wonderful glass of cold, white wine in the back yard of this friendly B&B in one of the world's greatest locations. If you are visiting the amazing, vibrant little town of Annapolis Royal, this is the place to go. We are sure you will enjoy your visit as much as we did.

This is a lovely Victorian home enhanced by family ties bringing current owners Bill and AnnMarie to Granville Ferry. All three guest rooms have views of Annapolis Basin and across to historic Annapolis Royal, and we found ours (Captain's Room) to be clean, light and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious (home-baked), plentiful and different on each of the four mornings we spent there, and because Bill and AnnMarie are very familiar with the area and community, conversation was always lively and informative! A welcome extra if required is a pot of fresh coffee outside your room an hour before breakfast. The two resident cats are super-friendly, staying in the host's quarters unless a guest should seek them out. Great value for money, A Seafaring Maiden is in a lovely scenic area of the Annapolis Valley with superb hosts, and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the region.
