"This is not your standard bed and breakfast. The living room is the size of a standard hotel room, is well decorated, and includes amenities like a pair of leather sofas, a dining table, its own sink, and a fridge that makes the standard minibar look like a grade school vending machine. (Can you get a soufflé from a hotel minibar? I think not!) The bathroom, which is about the size of a master bedroom, offers two designer sinks, a shower, and a hot tub-sized bathtub. The bedroom boasts a king size bed and luxurious bedding. Outside, you can lie in the hammock by the creek, roam the woods, make smores in the fire pit, or have a picnic in the field. But the size and décor of the place is not what makes it special. It’s the fact that Terry and Bob can anticipate almost anything you’ll need. If you’re weary from your walks in the woods, there’s a collection of bath salts and scented candles for your bath. Stepping out of the tub on a cold day, you can grab a towel off the heated rack, bump the thermostat up, and take out the space heater from the bedroom. Are you missing your pet back home? Grab a food bucket from under the fire pit to feed the llamas. They’re good substitute dogs in a pinch. Llamas too tame for you? Terry and Bob can arrange a visit to the Conservator’s Center so you can see a tiger. Want to do something more social? You could go to the nearby outlet shops, go to a free wine tasting a few minutes away, or better yet – talk to Terry and Bob. They’re wonderful people. In my three days at Shady Glen, I never found myself needing anything, being anything short of completely satisfied, or, more often than not, wanting to be anywhere else. The Shady Glen Bed and Breakfast sets a new standard of indulgence. So go. Whether you’re visiting your kids at a nearby university or exploring the heart of North Carolina you won’t regret coming here.
