My wife and I have actually stayed here twice. Once in 2011 and most recently in December of 2013. Karen is a gracious and accessible a host as you could hope to have. The studio apartment was just the right size for us and our two small boys. There was cable television and a DVD player which is helpful to have some cartoons going while we would get ready in the morning. The room is stocked full of a wonderful assortment of books to read, almost like you are staying in a mini library. The kitchenette was more than adequate for us to prepare lunch when we had to stay in with napping babies. The location of this B&B is just one block away from Smith St., which is one of the up and coming streets in Brooklyn for dining. Cuban, Middle Eastern, Ehtiopian, Indian, you name it, there is a style of food near this B&B that will meet your taste. I really just can't say enough good things about 287 Hoyt and Karen.

This place was a perfect headquarters for a busy NYC stay. Like borrowing your worldly, tidy, grad-student friend's studio. I was traveling alone, but could easily come back with my husband and small kids. Innkeeper Karen was very accommodating and friendly, but certainly gave me my space. I brought my own coffee beans and presspot, but there was a bag of starbucks, bottle of olive oil, and a stick of organic butter in the fridge. What more could you need? There was room to roll out a yoga mat, and a cute little back garden. If anything, I wish I'd had more time to just hang out in this cool little apartment and peruse the amazing bookshelf. I'll go back.
