This cheerful sign echoes the flowers below. This photo shows the Iris of May. Jonquils, daffodils, pink yarrow and lemon yellow daylillies bloom in other seasons!
A three tiered fountain provides a delightful bath for many birds that flock to the flower-filled gardens. Although located in the heart of Historic Independence Missouri, the gardens, benches, birds and flowers give a quiet, secluded feeling. As you walk around the grounds, you will find flowers, Victorian gazing balls, bird feeders and places to sit at every turn.
A full breakfast of ham & cheese breakfast quiche, fruit, muffins, juice and coffee or tea is served in this dining room with antique china and silver. The table is graced by candlelight while a bevy of antique dolls looks on. Breakfast is usually served at 8 AM. Our 1887 3 story brick house is the ultimate Victorian Experience! Our guests call this a museum you can sleep in!! The details include Victorian children's books and toys, a myriad of china figurines and vividly colored glasswares adorning shelves and tables, and antique pictures in profusion on the walls. Stereoscope viewers wait to be enjoyed by present day visitors while strains of music box tunes waft through the air. The dining room is filled with the luxuries that a middle class family could obtain from the latest Sears and Wards catalogues of the 1890s! From century-old books sporting antique bookmarks in the bookcases to antique medicine bottles and shaving paraphanalia in the bathrooms--this house is overflowing with genuine articles of daily life that a 1900 era family might have used and enjoyed. Antique clocks tick and chime throughout the house. Interesting sights wait outside in the gardens of the home. The large brick patio provides many places for sitting, relaxing and eating. The side porch shelters the house plants in summer and provides a quiet place for watching the world go by. Benches, a hammock, and swing provide spots for bird watching, reading, peering into Victorian gazing balls or listening to the bubbling fountain.

My out-of-town girlfriend & I left husbands & dogs at home & treated ourselves to a 2 night stay at a historical B&B full of museum quality antiques & a wonderful breakfast with our cottage stocked with pop/tea/popcorn/candy/reading material/etc. A lovely experience to be remembered.

Susan has thought of everything. Our 2-bedroom suite was supplied with every detail, including a case of different sodas in the refrigerator. It was tastefully decorated with period antiques and memorabilia from the era. The gardens were a delight to stroll and the location (just off Independence Square) give the impression of small town - but you were not far from downtown Kansas City.

This B&B was so full of antiques, knickknacks, and books. We enjoyed looking at them all. We took advantage of the free house tour and really enjoyed it. The seclusion and privacy of the Carriage House made for a wonderful weekend.

Retracing the Oregon Trail we opted to stay at this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. Susan the owner was so very nice to us--giving us precise directions to her establishment over the phone. Her place was very well maintained with fantastic flower gardens. The room she gave us was full of antiques, books, and everything we needed to feel right at home. She even gave us a tour of the main house including attic and basements. If we are ever in this area of the world again we will stay at the Serendipity Bed & Breakfast. Thanks Susan for a Great Stay!!
