5 sur 5A "must stay" on the B&B list

My husband and I just returned from two weeks across country on our motorcycle. Hottest summer in recorded history....who knew? But our second stop was at Backstroms B&B. Betty Jo, my new best friend and Mississippi mother, welcomed us as if we were family. She hugged us both--and I would SO not have hugged us after that long hot ride! She invited us into her kitchen to "sit a spell" and chat over a tall glass of ice cold lemonade. It was like we had come home. Betty Jo then gave us the key to the front door of her home, told us about a great restaurant in town, and told us to relax and enjoy! After asking us "when WE would like to have breakfast" (instead of when she was serving it!), we enjoyed our evening and returned home to the porch lights left on and our cool clean room. After one of the most restful nights sleep I have ever enjoyed, we were greeted in the kitchen to the smell of biscuits and bacon and poached pears, fresh fruit, juice, eggs and grits. But better than the food was the sweet conversation after she blessed our meal. We were on our way shortly and she took lots of pictures of us and the bike, and then asked the Lord's blessing over us as we drove off. If I am in that quadrant of the US ever again--I will go hundreds of miles out of my way to see my Betty Jo again. She is a gift--do NOT miss the opportunity to stay at "home" with Betty Jo. Thank you, my friend!!

A front porch with rocking chairs. A bottle trce. Courses of Southern breakfast. All served with Southern hospitality - Betty made the South warmer than it was to Wisconsin people.
5 sur 5Perfect Weekend
mai 03, 2009
We decided to take a spur of the moment weekend trip and made last minute reservations at Backstrom's B&B without knowing anything at all about it. We could not have made a better choice. Ms. Betty Jo is a perfect example of an original Southern Belle. The accommodations were beautiful, private, comfortable, and you immediately feel like you have come home. We especially enjoyed the rocking chairs on the porch and the peaceful feeling that was there. The breakfast was served in traditional down home southern style and the food was great. It was home away from home...only better.....you'll love it.

5 out of 5I hope to visit again

I have a new friend in Columbus, MS, and her name is Betty Jo Backstrom! The moment I entered I felt enveloped by the peace that resides in her home and the surrounding woods. Normally an early (5:30am) riser, my first night there I slept until 7:00am. Talk about restful! I felt perfectly comfortable throwing on my sweats and padding down the stairs to bring my coffee back to my room. Breakfast was full and delicious. Betty Jo is a gracious and delightful hostess. I look forward to staying with her again on my next visit to Columbus. Thank you, Betty Jo!

We traveled to Columbus to watch the MSU vs. Vandy football game. Mrs. Backstrom made us feel right at home, and the kids just loved her. Everything was so roomy, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding, and such hospitality can only be offered by a true “W-Girl.” Thank you for the experience, we look forward to visiting again! GO STATE!!!

Running from Hurricane Gustav, my husband and I were delighted to spend four days with Betty Jo. She is the most delightful hostess we have had after staying in bed and breakfasts for the last 15 years. She is so gracious and friendly. The room was lovely and spacious. The breakfasts were delicious and ample. I look forward to returning for a vacation stay.
