5 sur 5Possible the best stay in the Northern Woods.

Decided to head north to enjoy the Peak of the Fall Colors 2012, weekend of Sept 29. Made the best decision to stay over the Poplar Creek Guesthouse. This bed and breakfast is literally in the middle of the woods! Through Scenic Gunflint Trail. It is hard to find at first, but use the Map provided by the inn keeper and you will be OK. We stayed in the Dorothy room and it is amazing! we feel that Barbara spends all day figuring out how to make her guests comfortable as possible. The beds are exquisite, the room is immaculately clean, even the linens are super soft. The room is very cozy and sophisticated feel. The views Little Ollie Lake are pristine and breathtaking. I absolutely recommend this place than the places in Grand Marais. I will definitely come back, to get more of the Northern Hospitality!

My Husband & I stayed 2 nights for our anniversary. We had a nice brake from our hectic life and were very impressed with this inn. I thought the rooms were really great with eveything you could possibly need. Barb & Ted were very hospitable, helpful & super friendly. The home is roomy, comfortable and the lake was beautiful.

Featuring a well laid out house design, terrific 3 course breakfast (who knew there was breakfast desert?), a beautiful setting, and very accommodating hosts, we always enjoy our stays at the Poplar Creek Guesthouse. They can arrange all kinds of adventures as well. We went canoeing into the BWCA. Can't wait to return.

My wife and I did a two week tour of several cities in Minnesota, including Grand Marais, Duluth & Hibbing. We were up there to escape the Florida heat and didn't really know what we were going to do, but turned out to have a really great vacation. Please see my other posts regarding lodging, meals, etc. if you are interested in a similar trip. Regarding Poplar Creek B&B...everything was fantastic. It's about 30 minutes due north of Grand Marais, but it was the highlight of our trip. They have cabins, but we stayed in one of the B&B rooms (Barbara's Suite). Nice family room, little kitchen, nice sized bathroom and a separate bedroom. We peeked in the other rooms before we left and they were very nice as well. Everything was extremely clean & comfortable. Barbara's breakfasts were great and definitely worth the extra money if they're not included with your particular room. Barbara and Ted were excellent hosts and provided so much information on their area and other parts of Minnesota that we were going to visit. We basically spent a day hiking, a day canoeing and a day in Grand Portage and downtown Grand Marais. We could've spent more time there, but we had to move on to our next stop. There are miles and miles of trails or gravel roads for hiking, mountain biking, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, etc., and they're accessible from the B&B or just a quick drive. It's in the woods but you feel like you're at home. We hope to be back soon.

5 out of 5perfect weekend getaway
juillet 20, 2010
This place was perfect for us. We love to canoe in the seclusion of the BWCA but not too fond of camping in it. We had an amazing breakfast, did a 6 hour day trip into Rose lake and had steaks on the grill back at the B & B. The room was spacious and had all the amenities we could ask for. We had use of the upstairs kitchen, living room, and deck. We even heard live music from a bar across the lake. Who knew there was night life on the Gunflint trail. The rates were outstanding for the quality and luxury recieved. We will definitely be back.

Hi, Thank you for the great review. So nice of you to do this. Just a note: The bar across the lake is actually a family restaurant also. It is two bays over on a different lake. How sounds travels. The restaurant hires a local band on in the evening on weekends for a couple of hours to entertain those waiting for a table. The B&B is sound proof when the windows are closed, but on a warm summer night, the windows can be open for a breeze (and music).4,2 out of 5Great Place for a getaway!!

Barbara's breakfasts are out-of-this-world gourmet heaven complete with dessert! We spent a night there after a day of biking the Gunflint Trail, and we loved the soak in our room's hot tub!

Stay here if you get a chance. It is tucked away off of the Gunflint Trail. My wife and I just loved it. Barbara's breakfasts were first rate, very well done. Ted is a great guy and we both enjoyed talking with him and Barbara. We stayed in the room with the hot tub which was great. We fished from shore and caught Northerns everyday (only 1 walleye), but we thought it was great given it was shore fishing. The wildlife was spectacular, we saw moose, fix, and a wolf on two occasions - all within about 5 miles. Ted and Barb have done well here. We will stay there again! Also, this was my first experience at a B & B and if they are all like this, I am hooked.
