This is NOT a Holiday Inn. If you want predictable, impersonal, standard amenities, choose a chain. This IS a charming, reportedly haunted, historic inn. As a B&B, it offers a friendly, helpful staff, welcoming common living areas--including a fireplace lit just for us, and three creaky floors of antique-filled rooms of varying sizes and amenities (all with TV and private bath). We were invited to wander through unoccupied rooms in upstairs corridors and enjoy the history. It's a long but do-able (and safe) walk to downtown Petoskey, and the neighborhood of impeccably kept Victorian cottages, the campus where Helen Keller and Booker T. Washington once spoke, and the paved path along Little Traverse Bay offer picturesque exercise or strolls, much nicer than a perfunctory exercise room, in my book. We will return.

This hidden gem is our favorite hotel. Sitting in Bay View among the trees and Victorian Homes, this place is truly a peaceful and relaxing slice of heaven!

Charming old inn located in an interesting area. Ours was a one night stay in mid-October so high season was past. Weather was cool and rainy and after dark lent character to tales of the place being haunted. An interesting stay, staff was friendly and helpful.

I stay at the Terrace Inn several times a year. The inn offers historic ambience with modern amenities. Full breakfast, (granola is delicious).

Hotel is very interesting and historical. My only complaint was the size of the room. We have stayed there before but never in their smaller rooms. We'll know better next time. Breakfast was good and helped to make the Terrace Inn a decent value. We have stayed at least 3 times in the past and I expect that we will again. The help was very friendly and helpful.

The hotel was in need of a good update and repair. The WiFi was suppose to be free; however, our room was located on the third floor and we could not use our IPAD's or Phones on that floor. Also, we had a multiple problems with the room. The keeper's were great and they tried to service all our needs.

Quaint hotel, very clean and nice. Only thing that we were disappointed with was the bottom sheet was not smoothed out when the bed was remade. Other than that the rooms are quaint but small. Good for what we wanted. Breakfasts were delicious!

I was part of a cycling group. They worked with us by allowing early check in, storing our bikes in their basement at night, allowing us to do yoga in their dining room and gave us a late check out. Their front porch is a wonderful place to sit and spend the evening.

Quaint property. Delightful setting. The room we stayed in was not very comfortable. No place to sit. Mattresses and bed were old and saggy. Glad we came but probably will not return.

This was our second visit to Petoskey / Bay View MI area and the Terrace Inn. Love the antiques and cozy atmosphere. By registering a couple of months ahead, we were able to choose our room this visit which was a King Deluxe. Every room is decorated differently with antique furniture and accessories. Because we visited during the off-peak season, our made-to-order breakfast was a real treat and delicious. Most all the staff were courteous, friendly, and helpful. The room rate which included our breakfast for two was very reasonable. Would highly recommend the Terrace Inn, especially if you like antiques, good service, lovely neighborhood to walk and relaxing atmosphere.
3,2 sur septembre 05, 2014
Stayed in a top (third) floor room. Small but clean and quiet. Poor wi-fi upstairs but excellent in ground floor & on front porch. Managed to store our bikes in a basement store room for protection against theft and the elements. At dinner there twice, very good both times. Reasonable service but a bit lacking in wine protocol. Hiccup as we were checking out as one meal bill not entered into the computer. Front desk staff (Kirstin I believe) was singularly unhelpful and had to be prompted to call her employer to get things straightened out. All ok in the end. A very quiet Inn away from traffic but close enough to the Little Traverse Wheelway for our needs.
3,6 sur septembre 04, 2014
We were late to check out so they left the keys in an envelope. The hotel is in a very safe and beautiful part of the town. Breakfast was ok but the outside dining area was very nice! The prize might be a little high but given the locality it is worth it. Parking might be an issue thoufh

The Terrace Inn is very charming and situated in a beautiful location. However, in my opinion, the room we had was not worth the money we paid for it. The room was small, we only had a shower (no bathtub), and thee were 2 dead flies on the floor of the bathroom. So I am not sure when that bathroom floor was cleaned. We saw some other other rooms that were bigger and looked nicer, so perhaps it depends on the room you get. The person at the reception was very unfriendly and serious. Breakfast was ok, typical white bread, and smuckers marmelade. I expected more from an expensive BB.

I love the idea of an historic inn, and this one is in such a great neighborhood--that part cannot ever be beat BUT...needs much work. The plumbing is subpar meaning while showering you get scorched or blasted by icy water; electrical was no different with cheap a/c window units which were sorely inadequate making the room too warm & the electrical outlets were overloaded with plugs so lights flickered. Furniture needs a good cleaning or repainting in too many instances--stained chair pads, sticky tables, etc are very unpleasant. twin rooms are VERY small-an upgrade is a necessity and we usually travel in Europe so are used to small rooms but you have to be able to open a suitcase somewhere safely. If you need wireless you have to trek down flights of stairs to the lobby (which we knew but since this is easily fixable with an attic or floor wireless routers really should be fixed); TV had very basic cable. This inn had a supposedly very nice restaurant but the complimentary breakfast was store-bought danish, cheap loaf breads, unripe fruit, casserole style pans of scrambled eggs and potatoes, a waffle machine you see as budget hotels or sandwich bread french toast and basic OJ. The bacon and sausage were good quality. Ordered oatmeal--which I like even the instant--but this was inedible. Unfortunately also tried dinner the first night after a long drive--they neglected to share specials that occurred later in our stay and on all the other nights there was piano music--very disappointing not to be told about this as we were there for several nights. Dinner was subpar with overcooked plank whitefish and potatoes and good but not special desserts. I will say the restaurant staff was super nice. And the Bay View neighborhood is the really only draw to this town... unfortunately we did not expect all the summer events would be over by early August.
4,6 sur août 25, 2014
This is an old inn with lots of character. Uneven floors and decor from the last turn of the century, set in the middle of Bay View, when visiting their summer cottages, spend time on the porches of their Victorian houses, attending classical music entertainment offered by the Bay View Association, and other wise unwinding in decidedly quiet ways. This permeates the Terrace Inn, where your pace will slow, and you will savor each moment. Best two nights of sleep I've had in more than a year.

The Terrace Inn is always a good value. The rates are reasonable and the accommodations are comfortable. The complimentary continental breakfast is excellent, however the dinner menu is very limited.
3,4 sur août 20, 2014
Clean, cheerful, bright, idyllic setting, but rooms show the wear of 100+ years. A quiet place, but not up to modern soundproofing standards. I'll be back, but don't assume this is a typical Ramda Inn, rather a classic with expected joys and a few signs of age.

This place is absolutely charming- vintage details throughout in a beautiful residential setting with views of the bay- absolutely comfortable and the staff was friendly and very helpful. Its not new by any means, but fresh and clean and gives you the feel of a bygone era...so if you're looking for Euro-chic this isn't it, but has the feel of preserving the warmth and simplicity of a simpler, easy-going time. This was our second time staying here and will be back again for sure!

We were very pleased about our stay at the Terrace Inn. The room was quaint and comfortable. The area is lovely. My only complaint was that upon arrival at the desk the staff was less than pleasant. I was ignored by 4 to 5 staff members around the desk for several minutes as I stood there. When I was finally greeted, it was not with much enthusiasm. Everything else was just fine however. I would stay again.

We loved our stay. Our rooms were delightful. I do wish they had told us that our room the 1st night would be directly over the dance floor while a wedding reception was occurring though. The next two nights were in a different room, and with no wedding going on, all was quiet. I would recommend staying over any night but Saturday to avoid weddings. It's a lively place in a beautiful neighborhood, a perfect location, and a great breakfast. We would go back for sure.

What a lovely inn, full of history and endless charm! The hosts were very helpful and delightful. We were especially happy with the restaurant--gorgeous presentations and an extensive menu, served by friendly and efficient staff.

We spent six nights at this charming hotel. Our room had 2 twin beds on the third floor with two windows, was clean and quite cozy. Each room is beautifully decorated and different from the others. The rooms are simple and adequately furnished. I love staying in a vintage hotel, but others expecting a modern 4-star hotel might not care for this. A great piece of history. They did a great job of emphasizing the historical, keeping guest rooms as close to original as possible while still upgrading to private bath and shower in each room. We only had breakfast in the dining room and food was excellent as was the service.

It is a cute B&B and is very clean. We had a problem with toilet running constantly and was very loud with banging pipes, mentioned it the first day right after we checked in and we were pretty much blown off. The dining room was closed to us both nights since they had events going on. I would think they might have mentioned that little tidbit when we booked since we had to drive to town for meals. However we were allowed to enjoy the morning breakfast buffet that was complementary and it was excellent. Finally, all rooms don't have air conditioning so if going in the heat of summer make sure you ask because ours didn't and couldn't open the windows since no screens. All in all it is in a perfect location and the surroundings are beautiful and it is adorably decorated.

We stayed on a Thursday and Friday night during the off-season. We were warmly greeted by Ron even though we arrived a day earlier than expected. (My bad) Breakfast was prompt and delicious. The planked Whitefish was everything people said it was. We came with high expectations based upon previous reviews and were not disappointed. When we lived in PA we went to a B and B in Cape May, NJ every year. We were hoping to find a B and B in MI that was comparable. We found one that was more than we hoped for. Bay View is reminiscent of Chautauqua, which I visited often when I lived on Lake Chautauqua and downtown Petoskey is charming with excellent restaurants. I recommend the Terrace Inn and 1911 Restaurant without reservation.

The Terrace Inn is a lovely Inn with an outstanding staff! I usually stay for a week every summer...and have been doing this for years now. The staff this past summer was outstanding...the best ever...very professional! The rooms at the Inn are beautifully decorated with antiques and the continental breakfast is wonderful! I ate most of my meals at the Inn...and I especially like the planked whitefish and the perch! Another favorite is the pizza and salad! There is lots to do in Petoskey...you will not be disappointed if you stay at the Terrace Inn! The Innkeepers Patty & Mo are very friendly and helpful!

We loved our stay at the Terrace Inn. The room was very cozy and comfortable. The lobby provided a nice space to just relax and have a cup of coffee after shopping downtown Petoskey. Although we had dinner reservations elsewhere, the breakfast was perfect. There was an egg casserole, a potato casserole, bacon, waffles, fruit, yogurt and bagels. There was always a staff person visible and ready to help if needed. In all, it was a great stay and we will return.

The welcoming atmosphere, great food, majestic outdoor terrace for dining among the tall trees, the quiet morning walks and sunsets on the Bay are what keep me coming back. I stay here only to visit relatives in area. This will be my 4th visit within 7 years. Their sister hotel is much nicer but pricer. This place is old but kept up nicely and in a residential neighborhood. Beware, there is no elevator to get to 2nd or 3rd floor. Continental breakfasts are too sweet wish they could offer oatmeal something less sugar. I hear their dinners and pizzas are good. If you want quiet, this is it. Rooms are affordable and you have a big choice if booking early.

This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast and it was wonderful. Terrace Inn is located in a nice part of town very quiet and picturesque. You can easily walk to the bike path and walk along the lake shore to view the beautiful sunsets of Petoskey. The rooms were clean comfy and felt very much like staying in someones home. The breakfast was only average and the dinner prices were quite pricey but the atmosphere was very nice and we look forward to visiting again.

Our stay at the Terrace Inn in Petosky proved to be one of the best weekends we have had away from home. The room was small, but very clean and the bed was comfortable. We've stayed at the Terrace Inn twice and are booked for our third visit later this year. This was the first B&B we'd ever visited and needless to say we became hooked. We stay at Bed & Breakfasts as much as possible whenever travelling or just for getaway weekends at least twice a year. This one was average at best. The staff was friendly but very scattered and unorganized. The Inn was lovely but had a hard time regulating the temp in our room so was always too hot or too cold. Food was ok but breakfast was what you would get at any hotel, not what we were looking for and had to take care of our own dishes and clear our table. We take a getaway to get away from work and be pampered. Just not worth the cost. We have stayed at much better places.

We stayed only one night, and felt very fortunate to get a room at the Terrace Inn. The room wasn't quite ready for us when we got there, but the housekeeping staff offered us a cold drink, and started the air-conditioner going so that the room was well-cooled when we entered. The decor was absolutely charming, the soap and shampoo top-notch, and the breakfast in the morning was fresh and welcome. The bed was comfortable, and the entire Inn was welcoming. We sat on the porch in the morning, and drank our coffee, and enjoyed conversation with other visitors. This was a truly special experience, and the staff really went out of their way to be accommodating.

My sister and I visited the Bayview Terrace Inn back in February for the dog sledding adventure package. We had a FANTASTIC time, and created beautiful memories! This was our very first time at a Bed and breakfast and dogsledding so we were definately intimidated! When we arrived we quickly relaxed taking in the homelike feel of the Inn and the employees were very friendly! Patty and Mo were adorable hosts and have created a great place to visit! While my sister checked us in I tried out the lobby chairs which were by far one of the most comfortable chairs I have EVER sat in! This again surprised me beacause they didn't look it, which totally proves that looks can be deceiving! Once we arrived in our room it was like a standard hotel room and was very charming! It was pink pink pink! just how we wanted it! :) Breakfast was your standard continental and was great! I also liked the special touches within this INN such as complimentary hot chocolate served at night in the main lobby. The dining area also had candles and roses on the tables for evening dining. All of these little touches are important and created a lovely atmosphere to be in! Dinner at the Inn which came with our package was very delicious! If I has anything negative to say about this Inn it would definately be the parking which was horrible, because there is no actual parking lot. You have to park on the sides of the road and walk your stuff in! I recommend packing light! All in all i loved my stay here and can't thank the Innkeepers enough along with the entire dogsledding adventure team for allowing me to fullfill a dream of mine and for giving me a great place to stay in as well! I recommend this place to anyone looking to try dogsledding and would like to have a relaxing weekend! what a great experience! THANK YOU! Glorianna Cece & Jessica Cece

My husband and I stayed a night at the Terrace Inn in December. This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast and we cannot wait to do it again! It was wonderful. The inn is darling and quite comfortable. The service is marvelous. We enjoyed the breakfast, too. It was a beautiful snowy winter's day which made it easy to spot a bright red cardinal outside the window. We also enjoyed a peaceful winter's hike throughout the grounds and beyond. I should think a summer's evening on the huge porch would also be quite enjoyable.

My wife and I have just spent one of the most relaxing and enjoyable weekends in our memory. Thanks to Mo and Patty and the outstanding services they provided we feel human again. From checking in, to the cleanliness of the room; from the incredibly delicious breakfast to the gormet wonders of the dinner kitchen, we were continually amazed at the highest quality being offered. Mo and Patty sweetened the package by throwing in a horse drawn sleigh ride through the historic Bayview neighborhood. The amenities and the renovations took us back to an era of refined granduer and elegance; to a time when sitting in the grand lobby, near the fireplace playing back gammon or parcheesi, and visiting with other guests was the accepted norm. Kudos to Mo and Patty for their patience in achieving their dream, and for their impeccable graciousness. Denny and Barb

We have stayed at The Terrace Inn many times, and absolutely love it. The updated rooms are lovely- try one of their jacuzzi suites for relaxing after skiing or bicycling. Their smaller twin rooms are great if you have kids along, and you can book an adjacent queen room for the adults. Service here is always helpful and responsive. The town is quiet & filled with charming cottages. Private beach in summer; near great skiing (downhill & cross-country) in winter.

We took off on a wee tour of our own of the place upon rising in the morning and got to see most of the rooms... They were all very delightful and brought back fond memories of our grandmother. My sister liked it so much that she is trying to convince her oldest daughter to have her wedding there. I hope that happens because I would love to fly up and stay there again!

This was our second year to stay at Terrace Inn after the first I made it our goal to make it an annual event and to stay in a different room every time. It is a beautiful, romantic, peaceful and friendly Inn. We highly recommend it.

rooms were adorable. dining was exceptional. "chicken hemingway" was moist and flavorful and the "chocolate lava cake" was delicious. will definitely be coming back again.

We very much enjoy the Terrace Inn. Have been there at least 4 times over the years. We enjoy just walking through the historic neighborhood and then of course shopping in Petoskey. It is very calm and relaxing and we also enjoy eating there. Judi & Rol

The Terrace Inn is within walking distance of many things so the location is great. Our room was clean (somebody's candy wrapper was in the closet?), but there was an inch of open space between the air conditioner and the wall (we placed a towel in the hole to keep out the mosquitos) - the room was a little run down (kleenex stuffed in windows/screens to keep out the mosquitos - some windows wouldn't open). Very little traffic noise, but the walls are very thin (we could hear the guitar in the next room like it was in the same room but it was during the early afternoon so it was fine). Tried to connect to wireless and failed - front desk was having as much trouble as we had. The food was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. If you're looking for something laid back and off the beaten track (and you have no need to contact work when away), it is a good place to stay. The outside seating (our favorite thing about our stay) is a wonderful setting for meals.

This was our first time at the Terrace Inn and would definitely stay again. Very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Loved the whole feel of the place. Have stayed before at the Grand Hotel on Macinac Island and this felt like a mini Grand Hotel with the decorations and the art on display.

We experienced our first stay at the Terrace Inn and it was a impressive experience! The Inn is absolutely beautiful and the staff is very graceous and accomodating. The food in the restaurant was absolutely top-rated, not to mention the elegant, but very comfortable atmosphere. Our room was very quaint and charming and very comfortable. The whole historical area is a must-see with just a short walk to Lake Michigan where there is so much to do! Thanks Patty & Mo! Your Chocolate Iowa Friends

A great place to experience this lovely, unusual, victorian, summer community in the heart of Petoskey. The Inn is clean, quiet, and comfortable. Breakfast and staff were delightful. Great value in an otherwise pricey area during peak season. Only drawback is that the Inn has no elevator. We enjoyed our visit thoroughly and plan to stay here again! Les and Chris Homan

Friendly, helpful staff! Planked whitefish dinner is a must! Staff was able to provide anything I asked for, including special orders in the dining room. Great value in a what can be expensive location. Shopping is Petoskey is wonderful too.

I stayed at the Terrace Inn just recently and the location is great! Just about a mile from downtown and the shops there are great! This place has so much character and you feel comfortable just lounging in the lobby by the fireplace with a good book, I know I did! Its calm and quiet and not too far from Boyne Highlands which is perfect because I always hate to stay at Resorts when i take a trip to ski. It always feels so BUSY, but I love to ski so I don't want to be too far away! Its so charming here and the innkeepers and staff will take time to talk to you and make you feel at home. I am definately coming back soon for my next ski trip!

The location is on a hillside in the midst of Victorian homes and is ideal for a scenic walk. The long veranda facing the bay is a relaxing place to sit and visit as is the lobby. I went with 2 woman friends and were pleased with the large bathroom with plenty of counter space. We also had a whirlpool tub. The cleanliness of the rooms was outstanding. I don't know if there is an elevator or rooms on the ground floor so check ahead of time if you can't do stairs. Patty, one of the innkeepers, was nice enough to take a photo of us and e-mail it as we forgot cameras. Jane
