This was my second stay at this very special inn. The location and setting can't be beat. The inn is lovely with so many unique touches (a tree in the middle of the living room!), and the gardens and grounds are lush and beautiful. Dan is a warm and welcoming host, offering great advice on where to eat and what to do. His breakfasts can't be beat. So nice! So relaxing! We'll be back!

This home was the perfect place for our overnight trip from Long Island to The Clark Institute. The host was warm and inviting and made us feel perfectly welcome to relax inside and explore the beautiful property outside. We felt like we were at a family member's house! The dogs are darling and just as hospitable. Breakfast was wholesome, delicious and filling. We didn't want to leave.

We had a wonderful experience, the view from my room was exceptional, Dan the owner greeted us and made us feel welcome. The breakfast was delicious. The house and grounds were breath taking, I will recommend to all my friends who are taking a trip to the Berkshires to stay here.

We are Innkeepers of a B&B in the Catskills. We stayed with Dan for a couple of nights at his B&B for a much-needed getaway. His B&B is simply lovely . . . a quiet place with a calm atmosphere, tucked back away from the street, set upon a beautiful piece of property, and surrounded by the beauty of Nature. Dan keeps his B&B extremely clean and we appreciated his no-shoe policy, just as we have at our B&B. Our room was just perfect . . . it had plenty of space, a very comfortable bed, an abundance of natural light, and gorgeous views. Dan uses quality ingredients in his freshly prepared, delicious tasting and beautifully presented breakfasts. He has a lovely demeanor . . . very calm and easy going, and always willing to share in a good laugh. We had an absolutely delightful stay and look forward to future visits at his B&B. We highly recommend a visit to this special place in the Berkshires.

We have stayed here regularly over the last three years. Fantatstic.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The house was very clean and full of interesting things without being a museum - it was comfortable. While this B&B does not usually rent to families with kids under 10 (our boys were two weeks away from 10 and 7), Dan was very accommodating. The boys were in love with the dogs, Hazel and Emma, and went out sledding with them - we had to convince them to come back in after 3 hours of play. Dan made the boys hot chocolate and snacks and was able to recommend places to see and restaurants. Our rooms and bathroom were immaculate and very comfortable. We were just a short drive to Williamstown, but felt like we were away from it all. On top of the fantastic rooms and grounds, Dan is a fabulous cook. We had a gourmet breakfast that would out-compete any 5 star restaurant. We will be back next winter!

Upon arriving we were greeted by Emma and Hazel, Dan's wonderful and playful dogs, that kept us company every single time we went out the porch door :-) Our room was so cozy and spacious - we stayed in the deluxe suite. Everything was very clean, and we especially enjoyed a warm jaccuzi-bath after a rainy day outside. Dan's breakfasts can't be described sufficiently, they were sooo delicious! Just thinking back to those marvellous warm pineapples with joghurt and granola on top... :-) What else is there to say? Just go there, and you won't get disappointed! And what tops it all is, that Dan knows all the gooood places for dining in and around Williamstown. We had a wonderful dinner in "Man of Kent", a pub you surely wouldn't find without directions :-) PS: I rated the breakfast in the "Dining" section. There won't be any dinner served at The Birches.

What a wonderful place to stay! Not only is the B&B lovely with wonderful views and beautiful grounds to walk (and two charming dogs for company on those walks) but Dan is extremely friendly and helpful, with lots of great information about the sights and local attractions. Also, he is quite the cook - the breakfasts were amazing and deserve five stars all on their own. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway that is near to MA, NY and VT attractions then look no more.

A lovely B&B on a beautiful, secluded spot. Delicious breakfasts, comfortable rooms, gorgeous grounds, and so many nice touches, from the dogs to the chickens (fresh eggs!) to the pond (swimming, boating) to the flowers to the hooty owl, deer, and star-lit expanse. All that within minutes of the Clark, Mass MoCA, and great theater and restaurants. And the price is very right.

Stayed at the Birches recently and had a fantastic fall weekend with my fiance. Dan was extremely hospitable. We were greeted by Hazel (Dan's chocolate lab) who was as friendly a dog you could find. We enjoyed a bottle of wine at sunset while sitting on Adirondack chairs over looking the private wooded grounds. Upon returning from Dinner each night, we saw numerous deer wondering around!. Dan made great breakfasts each morning. Other than the breakfast being a bit early for me, I would not change a thing. What a great weekend, would definitely go back to The Birches!

My wife and I wanted a peaceful weekend away from NYC, and we got it. This B&B is quite pleasant, with beautiful grounds. The owner, Dan, is a very nice guy, too -- he'll make sure you have what you need. We hope to come back.

We stayed at The Birches at Steep Acre Farm last week-end with our sister and brother-in-law and loved every minute. The house itself is beautiful amd immaculate with artistic touches attesting to the owner, Dan Gangemi's, talents as a builder and landscape designer. He's also a tremendous host and cook! The grounds themselves are worth a trip and the pond has a sand beach for swimming. Can't wait to return!!!!

My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights at The Birches and just fell in love with this place. We arrived and were greeted by two sweet, friendly dogs. The grounds are beautiful and it's so much more than just a place to stay. You can stroll around the grounds, enjoy the scenery, lounge by the beautiful pond, hike in the area. The house is homey and welcoming and much more of a home than an impersonal resort. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Dan cooks a spectacular breakfast each morning, he's helpful and accomodating. The Birches is a real find. We can't wait to go back!

The ambiance is simply exceptional. Beauty surrounds you on all sides inspiring harmony and peace and true and deep relaxation. Beautiful trees abound with abundant flowers and it is not uncommon to see lovely deer grazing in the fields. This is simply a beautiful place and experience and I recommend it highly. You will want to return to its beauty and peace once every season!

We rented out the entire house for our brother's graduation from Williams College. The innkeeper, Dan, went above and beyond to make our weekend memorable. He even hosted a graduation party at his property for our brother, free of charge. The gardens and setting are idyllic. Dan is truly a chef! You will enjoy your visit.

We stayed in the king "jacuzzi" room. Roaring fireplace, bottle of wine, large jacuzzi tub, comfortable bed...what more could you ask for? Oh, an AMAZING 5 star breakfast! Dan is very kind and easy going and a GREAT cook. You can't imagine how delicious this breakfast is! We will be back for sure (even though it's only a few miles down the road from our house!). It was a wonderful "getaway" without having to actually get away. Highly recommended!

My husband and I had a relaxing and very comfortable weekend staying at The Birches. The room with the fireplace and whirlpool tub was beautiful, every detail was thought of for our comfort. Breakfast was delicious, the grounds are pretty and secluded and our host was very hospitable! We will definitely come back and would recommend this B & B very highly.

My husband and I visited The Birches and the Berkshires during a 6 below cold snap in January 2011. Dan was a wonderful host and achieves that tricky balance for an innkeeper: friendly and helpful yet not obtrusive. Our King Room, on the second floor and nestled up to the woods, gave the feeling of staying in a tree house. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We especially enjoyed the baked, stuffed pears that were part of breakfast one morning and grilled pineapple that was part of the next. Our stay was very comfortable and relaxed, and we were truly able to recharge. We will be returning in October for our anniversary.

The sign over the entrance to the Birches says "RELAX", and that's exactly what we did. My wife and I stayed in the king bedroom, which was very nicely decorated and extremely comfortable. We loved falling asleep with a crackling fire in the fireplace, and waking to beautiful views of the Berkshires in three directions. Dan was very friendly and happy to share his extensive knowledge of the area, including its wildlife. After a delicious breakfast, we had a wonderful snowshoe hike on the Steep Acres grounds, including into the southern edge of Green Mountain National Forest, where we saw a barred owl! We look forward to returning to the Birches.

We had stayed at Steep Acres several years ago in the spring, and had cause to visit again this winter. There is nothing like coming up to the house, and in from the still winter night to enjoy a well kept fire in the large natural stone fireplace. Crystal clear night sky allowed for some stargazing, crisp air,and relaxing. Unique interior artwork and an incredible breakfast that held us until dinner. Dan is an interesting guy and can fill you in on the happenings about town. Peaceful setting, only go if you enjoy natural beauty, and hassel free lodging.

The Birches at Steep Acres Farm is truly a beautiful place to go for some relaxation and rest. We stayed in the room with a queen size bed and shared bath. The room was fine but did not exceed expectations. The mattress was worn and felt smaller than a queen. However, everything was extremely clean, including the shared bath. The common areas in the house include a living room and dining room. Outside the house is beautiful and has many different areas to explore including a swimming pond and woods. Breakfast was delicious and consisted of home grown produce and eggs. The meat served was obviously some kind of frozen product - but as we do not eat much meat, this was not a problem for us. The price was very reasonable and the hosts were kind. They have two dogs so be prepared if you do not like dogs. Overall a great place and I would certainly return.

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our twentieth wedding anniversary. It was well worth every penny. The grounds are beautiful, with lots of trees, plenty of places to sit and relax, and mountains in the background. There is a lovely little pond and trails through the woods. The house is well designed and fastidiously kept. There are beautiful artistic touches all through the house. Our room was very nice and we especially enjoyed the private balcony up in the treetops. The bed was really comfortable. Dan is an excellent cook and served fabulous breakfasts that far exceeded expectations. This may be partly because he produces a great many of his own ingredients. He is amazingly well connected to his land, and grows his own vegetables, raises chickens, keeps beehives, forages for mushrooms, etc. He has two dogs, so for those who are not wild about dogs, I'd like to let you know that they were very good dogs and didn't bark at all. Most of the time we hardly knew they were there. The only thing we had a little trouble with was the DVD player, but in the end it worked fine. Overall the experience was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. We would go back in a heartbeat.

The Birches at Steep Acres Farm is the perfect destination for enjoying both the natural allure of the Berkshires and its more recent cultural developments. The farm’s serene landscape combined with its numerous outdoor amenities provide for a truly relaxing vacation. The rooms are comfortable and the service exquisite. In addition to their informative website, Dan the Innkeeper can provide a wealth of knowledge regarding local attractions and activities. The pièce de résistance of the Birches has to be their delicious breakfasts. After a restful slumber, the bountiful breakfast of fruit, homegrown produce and eggs waiting for me was a welcomed and much appreciated surprise. I highly recommend the Birches at Steep Acres Farm and look forward to another stay.

Our 3-night stay was just what we were looking for - some relaxation at a comfortable B&B. We got this and more - Dan and his staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with everything from area directions (we did some long road bike rides) to gardening to Williams College information as well as where to eat. Taking a dip in the large, clean and private pond was lovely and memorable. Dan's landscaping was also inspiring. We would like to return some time soon. Thanks!

This B&B is a peaceful haven situated in what is effectively a nature reserve. Woodland surrounds this charming, characterful farm house and bird song is a constant background to this tranquil setting - great for bird spotting. Deer can be seen grazing in the field across from the naturally landscaped garden. The swimming pond is a delight - cool, refreshing and secluded complete with a spring diving board, floating pontoon to swim-out to, canoe and silver sand beach. Towels are provided. The sun beds and chairs are "weathered" but we were enchanted by the setting and not inconvenienced by this. You must be comfortable with dogs as 3 glorious chocolate labs were quick to make friends and swim with us. The house is well fitted and our host made us feel very welcome to use it as we wished; to relax on the porch or sit in the living room. The bedrooms were beautifully appointed - light and airy. It was extremely hot and humind while we were in the area but up at the Steep Acre Farm the air was cool and no air conditioning was at all necessary. We stayed in the twin room which has 3 fully fly-screened windows in the 2 outside walls. It was light and airy and beautifully furnished. The second double bedroom also had a dual aspect. Perhaps one slight reservation is that there was a shared bathroom - however, as we were the only guests this was not a problem. We would LOVE to visit again - and if we do we'll make sure that we go with friends to occupy the double room - so the bathroom situation will not be an issue! Breakfast was cooked by our host and it was supurb - A baked pear with honey and cinnamon and brown sugar to start followed by home "grown" eggs baked in a cheese and herb sauce with delicious sausages, croissent and jam and really good coffee. WE LOVED IT. Thank you!

Over the 4th my husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The Birches at Steep Acres Farm. What a wonderful place to spoil yourself for a great price. Dan was a wonderful host however even a better chef!! The breakfasts were phenomenal - the baked stuffed pear was to die for. The room was delightful not to mention spotless. The front porch is a great place to sip on your morning coffee and soak in the beauty of the grounds. Both my husband and I would highly recommend this B&B if you are in the area. I would not hesitate to return and enjoy the beauty, food and hospitality of Dan, Emma and Hazel.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful romantic weekend at The Birches B&B. The house is comfortable and spacious, the environs are gorgeous, not to mention all of the great Berkshires scenery nearby. Dan's cooking was phenomenal. I live in Boston's South End, home to many of the city's finest brunch spots, and the breakfasts Dan cooked met or exceeded the best I've had in the city. I only wish he made dinner too! I can not recommend The Birches highly enough.

Our stay at The Birches was comfortable and low-key. Dan offered us good advice about short hikes to take in the area, and we had fun exploring the woods around the house. But what sets this place apart, for me, are the breakfasts. Dan is a fantastic chef!

This place is extraordinary. I first came here because it was conveniently located to my planned destinations:Family,Willliamstown Theatre, the Clark Museum and several ski areas. Now It has become my destination. The property is magnificent. The gardens and plantings are a must see for any gardener. The host is supremely knowledgeable about local flora and fauna , and shares so much information. I've now been here for all 4 seasons and can't decide which is my favorite. There's always something special going on and something special to see on the property. I've never had better breakfasts anywhere, period.

Husband and I stayed there for one night on our way to New Hampshire. Enjoyed our time and our huge room with fireplace, jacuzzi and king bed! We stayed down the drive at the Birches lodging, which is the Gangemi's sons home. He was great and a good cook. Wished we could have stayed longer, as it was a great place to hike around. Would be really nice for a family in the summer since they have a pond for swimming with loads of floats, boats, and even a beach area that kids would love. Nothing but lots of trees surrounding the farm and you are away from it all! The Crawfords

My wife and I had a lovely time staying with Dan, his two kids, and their dog Hazel May. This B&B is located a few miles outside of Williamstown in a very hilly, forested setting. The family was very friendly and helpful in letting us know about things to do in the area. There is a stream fed pond on the 53 acre property(for swimming and fishing in the summer). Dan raises chickens so we had fresh eggs for breakfast one morning, along with grilled pineapple and croissants. We highly recommend this B&B. John and Sandy

I have been coming to Steep Acres for several years. The hosts and property never fail to provide a blissful, fun, serene experience. The B&B is perched on her beautiful hill that slopes into a freshwater gurgling pond. The acreage is is filled with eye-popping birds and wildlife. The B&B is a quaint old growth home with a warm hearth and a splendid party New England decor. You could warm by the fireplace or sit on the glass-enclosed porch and watch wild turkeys scatter as the host's Labrador retrievers scamper after the foul. But what makes this property unique to any other that I've stayed at are the hosts Mary and Marvin. They are welcoming, quick to smile, knowledgeable, darn smart, interesting and ridiculously kind people. I sometimes fantasize that they are my parents! (Sorry mom!) I am almost hesitant to leave this review because of my selfish intentions of keeping the Steep Acres secret all to myself. But I have given in to my selfish impulses to write this review and share it with whomever will listen. Have fun and save some wild turkey for me!

I have now stayed here three times. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a delight. The view from the top of the hill is inspiring, and the deer at dusk are enjoyable to watch. Because I have a child at Williams College, I especially appreciate the easy drive to campus -- about 2 miles.
