The Capt. Lindsey House Inn is filled with artifacts and furnishings gathered the world over and embued with a gentle, relaxing graciousness that harks back to its earliest days. Whether you are vacationing with your family or traveling on business, you will be warmly welcomed in any season of the year.
Built in 1835 by a Maine Sea Captain as his home, this Harbor District Federal-style Inn combines the attributes of a boutique hotel and an inn right in the heart of Rockland's waterfront district.
Open the Red Front Door and step inside. You'll immediately sense the polished hospitality that is the trademark of The Captain Lindsey House Inn. The large and elegant parlor is a wonderful room, warmed by a fireplace and appointed with lovely antiques and soft down couches that lure you to come in and rest your travels. Come enjoy this peaceful, historic haven nestled amongst the handsome seaport buildings of Rockland.
Captains Ken and Ellen Barnes, newly retired from 25 years as Captains/Owners of the Historic Windjammer Schooner Stephen Taber, are a unique couple. After 46 years of marriage, they have retained that youthful spark for one another that seems to infect those that they encounter.
The fine oak paneling, along with a wonderful collection of pieces from Ken and Ellen's world travels, offers a feel of worldly hospitality that is our trademark. Antiques and Persian rugs, amidst modern amenities surreptitiously concealed, offer our guests a combination of genuine historic feel and the conveniences of modern times.
Plan to arrive at the Inn in time for our afternoon tea (4 – 6 PM) and relax in our homey living room or secluded deck surrounded by seasonal flowers. Sip on a refreshing beverage, munch a homemade cookie or two (you're on vacation, calorie-counting can resume when you get home), and review the many options for the next day with the knowledgeable Innkeeper on duty.
Guests enjoy afternoon baked refreshments with port wine or tea, available fireside or outside in our private walled-in garden. A well-stocked guest pantry is also provided.
Working fireplaces give five of our rooms a touch of old-world comfort. Whether king, queen, or single, all of our beds have the finest mattresses topped with thick down pads and covered with 300-thread count sheets, a feather duvet, and lots of pillows.
Meticulous care is evident in each of our nine spacious rooms, offering modern technological advances without infringing upon the grace of our antique furnishings. Each large room is equipped with wireless Internet connection, a writing desk, a telephone (local calls are free), a television, two very comfortable upholstered reading chairs.
Luxurious bedding is what it's all about. All of our beds boast the finest mattresses topped with thick down pads and covered with 300-thread count sheets, a feather duvet, and lots of pillows.
A large English breakfast is served buffet-style every morning. Coffee and teas are up by 7:00 a.m. Guests are treated to a hearty array of homemade granola, fresh baked breads, yogurt, juices, breakfast meats, egg dishes, Belgian waffles, fruit compotes, and more.
In addition to our large common room and side room library, you will enjoy our sunny Scottish oak-paneled breakfast room where we serve our sumptuous breakfast buffet each morning. We will make a special effort to provide breakfast early for those who need to leave earlier than 8:00 a.m.
Visual feasts greet guests around every corner.
Attention to detail with an eye for the aesthetic is the hallmark of your hosts who are extensive world travelers and collectors.
Whether it's a newspaper provided each morning, your own page-turner or a book from our side room library, there are plenty of quiet spots where you can relax and recharge. And while each room is equipped with wireless Internet connection, you are welcome to use our computer in the office free of charge if you didn't bring yours along.
Nine air-conditioned rooms offer luxurious beds with European down comforters and pillows, desks, 2 comfortable reading chairs, Wi-Fi, televisions, large bathrooms equipped with hair dryers, fine toiletries, fluffy towels and bathrobes.
Imagine a lovely roadside English Inn, or a Sea Captain's home in the early 1800s, filled with artifacts and furnishings from all parts of the world. Room #6 boasts a European king or twin beds if you prefer.
Our luxurious, modern bathrooms come equipped with soft terrycloth robes, big fluffy towels, nice amenities, hair dryers, and large showers. Two of our bathrooms have bath tubs.
Romantic Getaway, party of 2! What better way to celebrate your anniversary, birthday, engagement or honeymoon than here at the Lindsey House?
Room 9 is an extra large room with a king-size bed and sofa bed. It's handicap accessible as well. Consider reserving the entire property for your next corporate retreat, wedding party or reunion with your friends and family.
Way back in 1832 Captain George Lindsey, a bold mariner and prominent citizen, fired the bricks for this noble structure. Five years later, he transformed his home into what is thought to be the town's oldest inn, complete with livery stable and popular tavern. The inn has been lovingly restored and filled with intriguing artifacts collected all over the world, including a wide array of marine art.
A Master Mariner and Notary Public, Capt. Ken Barnes has twenty-five years experience officiating at many marriage ceremonies both at sea and onshore. We are always available to house wedding parties and even to host a small wedding at our inn (we can accommodate up to 50 people). Captain Ken Barnes can marry you in front of our fireplace in our lovely living room.
Several vessels offer sailing or motoring trips around Rockland Harbor and by the Breakwater and Owls Head Lighthouses.
Get away from it all in the heart of it all. Our front door faces a quiet side street, but it is only a few short steps to Main Street, Rockland. Downtown contains an eclectic collection of stores from art to antiques, baked goods to books, clothes to coffee, hand made jewelry to hand made soap, and sporting goods to souvenirs. You will find shops specializing in Maine made goods, or items from exotic foreign countries. Our vibrant shopping district truly has something for everyone. Visit the Farnsworth Art Museum, a treasure trove of American art with an emphasis on Maine and its artists or the Maine Lighthouse Museum. Stroll along the waterfront at the public landing or just sit and watch all the activity of the busy harbor.
The Captain's Cottage in Camden - Nestled well back from Elm Street in Camden Village, this year-round cottage is a short walk to the harbor & shops. Built by master ship carpenters this cozy cottage offers a large master bedroom/sitting room & bath on the second floor. The second & third bedrooms & bath with access to the private backyard garden are on the first floor. The cottage is equipped with 2 cable TVs, VCR, dishwasher, all kitchen equipment and all linens. Out back you will find a deck with gas grill, a comfortable picnic table and a lovely & private cutting garden from which you can supply yourself with fresh flowers.

My friend booked us 2 rooms for 2 nights and, we have already started making plans to return. Rockland is a delightful village to explore with terrific restaurants (especially Prim0) and galleries. It is made all the better by knowing that, at the end of the day, you are returning to a luxuriously large and decadently comfortable room. This is a Great B & B!

One evening in Oct 2012, after driving all day from Vermont, we missed the evening ferry by about 10 minutes. We were supposed to visit realitives on North Haven Island. Our nephew suggested we stay at the Captain Lindsay House. What a lovely Inn.....lovely room....and absolutely wonderful breakfast the next morning. The ladies served the most delicious blueberry french toast I have ever had in my life !!

The Captain Lindsey is clean, comfortable, and very charming. The food and service is spectacular. They aim to please and they deliver! The location is within walking distance to shops, restaurants, museums and even the ocean! Rockland was a very pleasant surprise with its farmlands, lobster/fishing trade and a sprinkling of artists; its very relaxed atmosphere is like a home away from home. We will definitely visit again. So much to do and see.

We stayed at this beautiful inn on 8/12. We were in room #6, that was appointed with anything you could want. The antques through out the home, are magnificent. The breakfast was presented beautifully. The food was over the top. The touches at this inn, left us speechless. The little homemade munchies they put out in the late afternoon, were scrumptous. The innkeeper, Patricia was as warm and friendly, as you could ask for. The owners of the inn, Ken & Ellen, were interesting to speack to, at our breakfast on Sunday morning. I bought her cookbook, and cannot wait to try some of her wonderful recipes. Can't wait to return to this magnificent inn. The inn was spotless, warm and inviting!
