For one glorious week we stayed in Kingfield at Lisa's B&B. Lisa is a superb host, accommodating, friendly, a wonderful cook. We are going back ASAP.

We were late arrivals last Saturday night, with a need to leave early on Sunday to make an appointment in Montreal...not the way you'd like to spend time at a nice B&B, but we will definitely be back when we can spend more time in Kingfield. Lisa had already retired when we arrived, but had posted a nice note on the entry door giving us information about finding our room and settling in. We found the room to be quite cozy and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding, with just-laid scrambled organic eggs, excellent blueberry pancakes with local maple syrup and the best granola we've ever tasted. Lisa was extremely accommodating, very friendly and a great conversationalist. We will definitely return to spend more at this lovely place in a beautiful location!

My wife and I stayed with Lisa for 4 nights and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Our room was spacious and felt like home. The bed was comfortable, the shower and tub wonderful, and the breakfasts were nothing short of spectacular. With a quick drive up the road to Sugarloaf getting to the slopes was a breeze. Lisa was very helpful with dinning suggestions and answering any other questions that we had about the area. The B&B is pet friendly and Lisa was kind enough to let our two adult cats stay with us. Lisa had 3 dogs and two cats (among other farm animals) that we thoroughly enjoyed. Her dog Skeeter thinks he is the inn keeper with a personality 5 times his size. Cisco was very friendly and if you kick his tennis ball you will have a friend for life. Her third dog Ella was full of energy and very sweet. We had a fantastic stay and hope to stay here again in the future
5 sur 5The place to stay when in Kingfield
décembre 12, 2009
We love this place and stay several times each winter in order to ski at near-by Sugarloaf. The rooms are clean and tidy, the beds very comfortable and breakfast is a delicious treat. We walk into the village to catch the mountain shuttle which allows us to leave our car at the B&B. Lisa, the owner, has her hands full running the farm, the B&B and her little antique gallery but always seems to be available when we need her.

We stayed with Lisa two nights; the price was fair, the bed was comfortable and the breakfasts were excellent. However, we can't recommend this B&B. We have 30+ years of good B&B experience and found Lisa to be a rather unfriendly hostess. For example, because she allows her three dogs in the kitchen and dining area she requests that doors leading to the guest living area be kept shut. Fair enough. But, her door latches are sticky and we had some trouble getting full door closure. She yelled at us one evening to not slam the doors and she refused to listen when we tried to explain the problem; we weren't slamming the doors, we were simply trying to fully engage the latches. Her dogs are very adept at passing though partially latched doors. Speaking of the dogs, when we arrived there was a pile of dog poop in the dining room - not a pleasant introduction. Next, cats. Anyone alergic? Avoid this place, as she alllows her cats to roam free on the kitchen counters. Finally, the overhead light in our bedroom wouldn't turn on so we checked the bulb and it literally exploded in my wife's hand. I told Lisa about this and volunteered to remove the bulb base and relamp the light but she became very upset that we would have even attempted to check out the bulb. She refused my offer of repair assistance and no attempt was made to repair this fixture while we were out touring the next day. We are friendly people and do not understand why she displayed an attitude of uncaring toward us. We did enjoy ourselves in the greater Kingfield area and found her touring and dining recommendations to be good.

This couple arrived unannounced at 1:00 p.m. in spite of their previously arranged 3:00 p.m. check-in time. They were completely unapologetic. While I was not very well prepared, I received them into my home graciously anyway apologizing for groceries spread all over my kitchen counter and dogs and cats being unrestrained. My puppy made a mistake in the dining room which was taken care of immediately. I gave them a room upgrade at no additional cost. They expressed no gratitude. They broke the ceiling light in their room. I asked that henceforth they let me know if something misfunctions so that I can take care of it. In the case of the ceiling light, I had to call an electrician who was not immediately available to fix it. This very demanding couple wanted a great deal of attention asking for and receiving tea, cocktails (he asked if they could use my scotch), wine glasses, plates, a sharp knife, x-tra bathrobe, hair dryer, use of my microwave, early morning coffee at 6:00 a.m. They ate dinner in my living room. I had to ask him to stop slamming the living room door as the noise reverberated loudly throughout the house. No other guest has ever had a problem shutting that door. When I attempted to demonstrate how to shut the door quietly, he flew at me from across the room to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about. In six years of operating a B&B in my home, I have never experienced such a challenging couple. I expected they would write an unsupportive review to post on the internet. It's just who they are.2,8 out of 5Friendly but you probably need to like dogs

Expensive for being in the middle of nowhere
Réponse du propriétaire
I want to address this guest's misperception ("expensive for being in the middle of nowhere"). Kingfield is in the western mountains of Maine which is one of the most popular recreational destinations in New England. Sugarloaf, a major northeastern ski resort is 15 miles up the street, the University of Maine Farmington campus is 20 miles down the street. The Appalachian Trail runs through here along with some of the most spectacular hiking trails anyone will find in New England. The Maine Huts & Trails system offers overnight lodgings, meals and educational opportunities & is a great family destination just a few miles from here and so are several white water rafting companies. There are a dozen restaurants in the area, lovely shops of all sorts and any service imaginable. Additionally, the scenic beauty of this region is exceptional for anyone simply touring in their automobile. My B&B is is the middle of the price pack (rooms range from $89 to $119)and is one of the few that includes in the price a full & hearty breakfast with several menu choices. This couple chose to stay in the highest priced room and in spite of their rather grumpy review, seemed to enjoy themselves.5 out of 5Great Spot in Maine

We had a great night in this A+ B&B near Sugarloaf ski mt. Lisa was very welcoming and cooked a delicious breakfast for us. Her dogs were friendly and made the whole stay feel like home. We will definitely recommend the Mt Village Farm to our friends and we'll be back next year!
