Pentagoet Inn Bed and Breakfast

We decided to visit Castine on our way North to Bar Harbor and stopped at the Pentagoet Inn. It was a good idea. The location was ideal, right near the wharf. Good bed. Good night sleep, nice private bathroom across the hall, and a nice buffet breakfast. Julie was everywhere all the time and paying attention to every detail. (I got tired just watching her...) We had an outstanding dinner (the bouillabaisse was outstanding, and I come from bouillabaisse country) and Jack was very worldly : ). Great Inn and great Innkeepers! We will definitely visit again. We were headed to a nearby town, but decided on the Pentagoet. It was a decision I do not regret. The Pentagoet Inn and Castine are like stepping back in time. I cannot say enough good things: warm, friendly, welcoming, comfortable, relaxing...it all fits! Jack, Julie and staff are really focused on making sure you have an enjoyable stay. We stayed in a king room in the separate house behind the inn. It was a sizeable room, well furnished, with an ensuite bathroom. This is an older historic place with all the associated charm but the cleanliness and comfort of a new place. Our experience the third night typifies how they go the extra mile. Tired from a day at Acadia, we arrived back at the inn shortly after closing time for the restaurant. We really wanted some dessert but thought we were too late and under dressed. Jack could not have been more welcoming, ushering us into the bar and making sure that we were served drinks and dessert, with a good side of conversation and advice on what to do the following day. Castine is a wonderful hamlet. Close enough to tourist filled places like Camden and Bar Harbor, but far enough away to really make you feel like you have gotten away from it all. Ride the free bikes, enjoy a great breakfast, read a paper on the porch, walk around town, experience the nearby beauty of the coast, savor a great dinner at the restaurant downstairs...this is a true vacation.

I stayed at the Pentagoet last summer with my husband, our second visit in five years. The Victorian era that marks the hotel's beginnings are subtly evoked in the furnishings, linen, flowers, and courtly service. The food was as divine as we had remembered, and the wraparound porch is comfortably furnished with comfortable wicker for a quiet newspaper in the morning, or drink with a companion. We booked one night at the Pentagoet Inn and ended up staying for three. It was wonderful. The Inn is beautiful, well appointed, very comfortable. We love old historic buildings, and the Pentagoet is a classic. Jack & Julie are wonderful hosts; Jack spent time telling us about places not to miss (and some to miss!) which helped us make the most of our time there. The food at the Inn was great. Breakfast offered a variety of options, and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner there. It was delicious! We went in mid Oct, and it was obvious that this is very much a summer town. It was very quiet, and when walking around the town at night, most of the homes were dark. I imagine it's a lovely town all lit up on a summer evening, but it was like a ghost town when we were there. Just an aside, not anything the Pentagoet could do about it :)

We traveled in Maine for 1 week and stayed in 6 different bed and breakfasts. Pentagoet Inn was our favorite. The atmosphere was charming, the furnishings appropriate for a Victorian establishment. We especially enjoyed talking with Jack, the innkeeper. He was very helpful in planning our day trips. We dined at the onsight restaurant two times, and we were very pleased. The breakfast was delightful as well. Try to stay in either the room with the turret or the balcony-wonderful!

Charming cozy inn with wonderful food, service, scenery, and stories! The stories are the experiences in the foreign service of Jack, the owner. He is a most interesting fellow who who is helpful as well as inspiring. Enjoy!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this quaint B&B for our anniversary. Never having stayed at a B&B I wasn't sure what to expect. I was so pleasantly suprised. The innkeepers were so friendly and helpful. We sat on the porch for drinks before having a delicious dinner just inside the cozy dining room. I would highly recommend The Pentagoet to anyone.

I spent the first two nights of my first trip to Maine at the Pentagoet Inn in Castine. Jack was very gracious on the phone during the reservation process, and when we arrived, we found the entire staff to be friendly and helpful. The rooms were charming, breakfasts and dinners were scrumptious (we chose to eat dinner here two nights), and the flowers on the wrap-around porch (where we ate breakfast) were overflowing the pots. So picturesque! If you want to visit a pretty little town on the water and RELAX, come here. We loved it and plan to come back.

My husband and I had no idea what to expect when we booked into the Pentagoet Inn in Castine, Maine, when we did the booking on line. We were quite impressed that we could chose the room we wanted on line. We arrived on a Sunday night and were asked if we would like to make a reservation for dinner the next night. At a B&B, make a reservation for dinner? We soon found out why. The chef is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park New York, and if you have never experienced a chef from that school, you have never dined "fine" before. A drink in the house "pub" was also an experience that was quite unique. Jack has a story for each of the paintings and photos on the wall. Oh, and did I tell you that breakfast on the veranda was the best way to start the day. All-in-all, the accommodations, the atmosphere, the ambiance and everything connected with the Pentagoet made for a delightful 4 day stay. Our next trip to Maine will certainly center around staying there.

If you are looking for relaxation, and the tranquility of a centuries old Maine fishing village is your cup of tea, try Castine, ME. I had wanted a trip to contrast our recent Disney vacation and other getaways that seemed far more hectic than restful. The village perches on Penobscot Bay and dozens of charming Victorian houses line its streets. We were traveling with our entire family and required three rooms. We found wonderful accommodations via Jack and Julie at Pentagoet Inn. Two beautiful buildings complete the complex, the Inn itself and a 17th century cottage. My nine year old granddaughter was immediately captivated by her room and the building itself (we stayed in the cottage). Our hosts provided a marvelous and varying breakfast each morning, and also serve dinner most evenings. We invited friends who live in nearby Brooksville for a scrumptious dinner at the Inn. There is sailing, biking and kayaking nearby. We all enjoyed the Inn’s beautiful porch, reading room and the tavern (for adults only). Jack provided excellent concierge services when a previously arranged outing fell through, and we all agreed that we had probably had a better experience with the new arrangements. I have been to Castine many times over a 20 year span, but never got to stay at the Pentagoet until this past July. It was simply marvelous. The owners, Jack and Julie, were superb hosts helping with local travel tips, being great conversationalists all while managing the inn and the restaurant. Breakfasts and Dinners were excellent, as was the refreshing Afternoon Tea. A bounus was have fresh coffee delivered near your room door in the mornings. And, of course, I had to get some things at their gift shop. My future visits to Castine will definitely include the Pentagoet Inn as my Penobscot "home".

My wife and I decided to spend a few days on the rocky coast of Maine. Since I had loved my visits to Castine years ago, I wanted to stay there for our vacation. An internet search turned up the Pentagoet Inn, and I made reservations. We soon discovered that we had made the right choice. The inn has wonderful dining, cozy sitting rooms, a welcoming veranda, and a luscious English garden. Only a two-minute walk from the harbor on Penobscot Bay, this beautiful and historic inn is surrounded by other historic homes and buildings that make fun walking tours. The service at the Pentagoet was first rate. We loved the staff of young ladies who were always ready to help or answer our questions. In no time our hosts, Jack and his wife Julie, seemed like old friends. Jack is a great conversationalist, and the mid-morning informal discussions with Jack in the pub are not to be missed. Our room was comfortable and quiet, and the king size bed had a good supporting mattress. The bathroom had a toilet and shower/bath; the sink was in the bedroom inset in a lovely piece of furniture. Everything was clean and in good working condition. We also appreciated the inn’s wi-fi for internet access. Breakfast was great, starting with hot coffee outside our door. Downstairs was a wide range of hot entrees, pastries, juices, and fruit. Don’t pass up the homemade granola -- the best I’ve ever eaten. The evening menu offered excellent seafood choices in a warm and romantic setting. Be sure to try the bouillabaisse! We ate all our dinners at the inn except for Sunday when the dining room was closed. The Pentagoet Inn was an important part of our wonderful stay on the beautiful Maine coast. It’s hard to say what we liked best about the inn. The whole experience rated 5 stars – a beautiful setting, impeccable service, excellent dining, and quiet, comfortable rooms. Throw in the historic significance of Castine, and it gets even better. We will certainly be back.

For the past 15 years, my husband and I have stayed at B and B's all over the world. After four days at the Pentagoet, it is our favorite. Everything was perfect, including the room, the innkeepers, the food, and the overall ambience. We LONG to return, and will.

The Pentagoet Inn is the perfect place for a romantic getaway if you are travelling in Maine. The guest rooms and common rooms are filled with Victorian antiques. Owners Jack and Julie went far out of their way to make us feel comfortable and answer any questions we had. A sumptutious breakfast was included. There is a restaurant on the premises and the dinners we ate were first-class. The Old World Pub is decorated with portraits of world leaders and was quite inviting. We recommend this Inn highly ( 5 stars) and will return again. The village of Castine is one of the prettiest spots we have been in Maine. Once you visit, you will want to come back.

My wife and I spent a week at the Pentagoet for our honeymoon. The owners were incredibly hospitable and generous; upgrading our room and giving us a couple of glasses of champagne and hand-crafted mugs as gifts. The rooms were comfortable and full of character. The breakfast spread was spectacular, and the evening meals were a delight. Castine is a wonderful little village that is worth the time to explore and Jack will help you plan a trip, whether you are exploring around town or your adventures take you quite a bit further away. After our stay at the Inn we could not stop telling our friends and family about the exceptional time we had while in Castine. We have already started planning when we can get back and spend more time at this charming inn.

Pentagoet has been on my bucket list for years after being highly recommended by an acquaintance, and I finally made it. I had high expectations and it did not disappoint. If you want a quiet and peaceful getaway, this is the place. We drove up from our home in Southern Maine. It was a rainy and overcast day, so we took our time and got there in time to have a great dinner in their wonderful restaurant. The food was excellent, especially the salad made from the garden fresh greens. All of the food was local, and as fresh as you can get it. After dinner we retired to our room. It was a fairly large room, with an antique headboard, and a wonderfully comfortable bed. In the morning there was coffee outside of our room, and a fabulous breakfast in the dining room. The muffins were homemade, and we had our choice of entrees freshly prepared in the kitchen. As wonderful as that was, I think the best part of the visit was the conversation with Jack, one of the owners (the other being his wife Julie) who has pretty much traveled the world and has a wealth of general knowledge about anything you want to talk about. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and look forward to going back.

We have stayed at the Pentagoet Inn in Castine Maine several times and have enjoyed each stay completely. The service is excellent and the rooms very comfortable. The breakfast is superb and the dinners are always delicious. The inn is just one block from the ocean and the town is great to walk around. The innkeepers are the best. Highly recommended!

The Pentagoet Inn is reason enough to visit Castine, Maine. Attention to detail in every room - just enough privacy to be perfect, yet enough interaction to have company if desired. Bicycles readily available to explore - terrific watering holes right down the street. One can easily spend the entire time right at the Inn, or trek out during the day and look forward to coming back at night. Thanks again, Jack!!!
