Rooms were very clean and comfortable. I would recommend having a room with a view of the bay but all rooms are great. Saltair is located on the bay just two blocks from downtown but in an area that is very quiet and relaxing. It is just a 10 minute drive to Arcadia National Park. A relaxing time is to sit on the chairs located at the end of the yard and watch the bay. The breakfast was excellent and more than enough to keep you going till dinner. The owners, Kristie and Matt, treat you more like family than guest. They were very helpful in telling us what to do and where to eat like a local.

I have stayed in a lot of inns over time, I have always enjoyed my stay, but this one takes the cake. Matt and Kristi were the most wonderful hosts, by offering friendly advice we were able to make the most of our two night stay. They add in little extras that make your stay extra special. The house is BEAUTIFUL and wonderfully kept. We stayed in the cottage room and it was perfect for a couple. The room is so charming and welcoming in person, the pictures don't do it justice. The inn was clean, very comfortable, quiet, warm, and tastefully decorated. It's with-in walking distance to town, and bar island for some unique hiking. I loved the views, the backyard and view at breakfast was incredible. I can't wait to plan another trip and stay again.

What a perfect retreat the master suite is! We absolutely loved our stay at the Saltair Inn. The room is huge! Perfect for the 4 days, 3 nights we spent. Even though it rained during a portion of our visit, it didn't matter. The sitting room is just what one needs to relax and forget about one's worries. Kristi and Matt were excellent hosts. The breakfasts were delicious and they made sure we were well acquainted with the highlights/things to do. Matt provided us with maps and must-do hikes that are often overlooked. He was right, we had the trails to ourselves. They do an incredible job of making the vacation perfect. The restaurant scene is also a plus. Stick with Kristi and Matt's recommendations and you will not be disappointed. We can't wait to come back. Thanks for such a fantastic stay!

We stayed during the "in between" season when many stores had "closed for the season" and the weather was wet and cold, but we had a great time at this B&B. Kristi and Matt were great hosts and helped us plan our time in Bar Harbor.

My husband and I stayed at the Saltair Inn for five days in July 2009 and were so exceptionally pleased. We stayed in the suite on the first floor and it was amazing. Between the beautiful resting area overlooking the water, to the very comfortable bed, to the amazing hot tub, we were in heaven. The inn keepers went out of their way to accomodate my dietary requests, from the breakfast to the afternoon snacks. ( I am gluten free ) It was delicious! And my husband who can eat everything loved it too. Acadia is so beautiful and it was so lovely to come "home" to such a beautiful and wonderful place. Oh, and fireplace too! Thank you so much! We will be back!

On our recent trip through the Northeast we stayed at four B&B's, we were happy with all of them but the Saltair was by far our favorite. Matt & Kristi are wonderful hosts and had excellant suggestions on what to do during our visit. Their property is absolutely beautiful. We expected the scenery but not the wonderful fireplace in our very large room, the really comfy beds and the yummy cookies each afternoon. The breakfasts were very nice and we really enjoyed the "family" atmospere. This is the most we have paid for a B&B, but if you are willing to pay more for an amazing expereince the Saltair is the place.

We just returned from a fabulous weekend at the Saltair Inn. We went to Bar Harbor to celebrate our anniversary and we couldn't have selected better accomodations! We arrived to the heavenly scent of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. We were immediately offered cookies and fresh blueberry pie upon our arrival. We agreed instantly that we would abandon our diets for the weekend! Breakfast each morning was plentiful and delicious. We enjoyed meeting the other guests at breakfast. Everyone was friendly and seemed to be having a great time. The inn (a large Victorian house) has lots of character and is decorated beautifully. The amenities are great! There are lots of little extra touches that really made the difference (e.g. DVD and CD library, guide books, snack basket, hot and cold beverage selection, etc.). Our room was very comfortable and clean. We had a gas fireplace which made for a cozy time. We experienced an afternoon of chilly, rainy weather so the fireplace and the DVD player were appreciated! Our hosts (Kristi, Matt and family) could not have done more to make us feel welcome. Whether we were looking for dinner ideas, information on Acadia or suggestions for local activities, they were full of great recommendations. They really went out of their way to make us feel at home. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting their family and can't wait for a return visit!

My husband and I just spent 6 nights at the Saltair Inn. It was absolutely perfect. The Innkeepers were the nicest we have ever experienced, and we travel a lot. The took so much time out of their busy day to make sure they helped us plan our day as far as hiking reccommendations, restaurant reccommendations, driving reccommendations, the list could go on and on. The breakfasts were delicious. We stayed in the Master Suite, which was very spacious and lovely. We got to view all 4 rooms however, and they were all very, very nice. The location was perfect, and the view out back was outstanding. We had a great vacation, and quite honestly, it would not have been near as special if we would had stayed elsewhere. Matt and Kristy and their very well behaved children felt like good friends when we had to leave. We hope to return to the area, and would absolutely not even consider staying anywhere but the Saltair Inn.

The Saltair was our favorite bed and breakfast on all counts. Kristi and Matt are great hosts. Despite being parents to three small very well behaved children, they made us feel that they had all the time in the world to talk to us and share their suggestions for enjoying Bar Harbor. We definitely will return when we are in Maine again.

Matt and Kristi Losquadro
Matt and Kris discovered Bar Harbor while visiting Matt's parents, who moved there in 1992. After that, they began taking trips to Bar Harbor at least once or twice a year. Enamored by the quaint New England village and amazed by the beauty of Acadia National Park, it wasn't long before the desire took hold to make Bar Harbor their home. They left their lives in Virginia behind, and purchased the Saltair in December of 2005.
