This was our second trip to Graycote - this time 4 days in the cold of winter, last time in the spring. The house was warm and inviting, our room (including fireplace) spacious, quiet, and relaxing. All the house is well decorated and filled with lovely amenities - Our Innkeepers were delightful: they really know Bar Harbor and the island as a whole; breakfasts were perfect for the season and sumptuous (spring sitting on the porch, winter nestled in the diningroom with a fire) - chocolate chips and tea at 4pm were lovely - We've been vacationing in Bar Harbor off and on for 30 years - been in probably 3/4 of its Inns - Graycote is the one we come back to! Thank you Pat and Roger

We have cottages on the western side of Mount Desert Island and wanted to check on them during the winter and also enjoy snowshoeing. The Graycote Inn, which is open all year, was a terrific place to stay. Our hosts had thought of everything - hot mulled cider and cookies in the afternoon, delicious breakfasts with lots of newspapers to read, a comfortable sitting room and many other extras that made us feel welcome. We also enjoyed the company of the other guests at the Graycote and our lively conversations. We'll be back.

The week of Labor Day, 2012, was our fith or sixth time spending a week at the Graycote Inn! My husband and I love it. Roger and Pat are down-to-earth and gentle, which I so appreciate when I am on vacation and recovering from the work-a-day world. I love the porch, the yard, our room and the wallpaper in it, the breakfasts, the breakfast room, the convenience for walking into town, the peacefulness of the inn, the fragrance of the cookies baking in the afternoon, the lemonade that accompanies the cookies on the dining room table, and the bookshelf with its wonderful collection of books in the living room. I'm looking forward to our next visit!

My husband and I stayed at the Graycote Inn on the last weekend in October, 2012, unseasonably sunny and mild. The Inn is beautiful, beautifully kept, in walking distance of everything in Bar Harbor, a short drive to Acadia National Park. The innkeepers, Roger and Pat Samuel, are so gracious and so intelligent that it felt like spending a weekend in Maine with a college roommate, a roommate who did very well at a very good college. Their restaurant and theater recommedations could not have been better; they seem to know instinctively, or perhaps from long practice, the sorts of things their guests would enjoy. The inn is full of books, and its selection so appealing we hoped for a rainy day. One glass fronted bookcase in our suite offered both P.G.Wodehouse and Proust. Breakfasts are excellent, wholesome and inventive, brown sugar, wheat flour, and yogurt sprinkled with local blueberries and exotic pomegranate seeds. Pat's cookbook, modestly priced, should be bought and studied. If this were not enough, Graycote Inn used to be the vicarage for Saint Saviour's Episcopal Church which has windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Difficult to imagine a better place to enjoy all the Mount Desert offers

5 out of 5Very nice stay at Graycote Inn
décembre 02, 2012
Graycote Inn of Bar Harbor provided us a very nice vacation stay. The hosts, Roger and Pat, were very conscientious. Each breakfast is a fruit course followed by a wonderfully presented main course; if you are particularly hungry, cereal or extra toast is also available. In the late afternoon they even provide a little snack, which this time of year was delicious mulled cider and cookies. They have an excellent selection of herbal teas, in addition to coffee, and were accommodating enough to let us use a little tea kettle all week. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a king size bed and a nice (private) shower. They provide secure wi-fi. The location is very convenient - it is right in Bar Harbor, but on a side street rather than one of the main driving streets. We had a lovely time and hope to be back again.
5 out of 5Wonderful B&B, Marvelous Hosts and Perfect Location

Since our second visit to Bar Harbor in 1996 we have stayed at Graycote Inn every other year for a marvelous week-long fall getaway and anniversary celebration. We are experienced B&B travelers and rank Graycote at the top of our list. We would not think of staying anywhere else in Bar Harbor. The hosts, Pat and Roger, share a wealth of information about scenic and cultural activities in the area as well as an extensive list of restaurants by category, complete with menus. The rooms are all different, beautifully furnished, quiet and oh so comfortable. The delicious breakfasts are different every day, beautifully presented and healthy on top of that! A recent example included a 'parfait' of yogurt and mixed fruits followed by a frittata & homemade biscuit (with a candle for our anniversary). A bulletin board lists current activities in the area as well as a weather report. A rainy fall day provided some time to sit by the fire and sample some of their wonderful collection of books. Another couple enjoyed a game board in the dining room with cider and cookies. The Inn is centrally located in the village of Bar Harbor and within walking distance of shops, galleries and restaurants. We look forward to our conversations with Roger and Pat where we always learn something new and interesting about the area. And they are just downright interesting people! Additionally, the Inn's atmosphere is conducive to conversations with the other guests if you so choose. Our 5000+ mile trek to Graycote has become a wonderful tradition. We are already planning our return!
5 out of 5The Only Place to Stay in Bar Harbor!

Is the Graycote Inn. From the moment you walk into the front door you know that every single detail is taken care of to provide you with a comfortable, enjoyable and delicious stay! This was our second visit to Graycote and it was exactly as we had remembered. In fact, we increased our usual stay from four to six days it was so wonderful. It goes without staying that the home and rooms are decorated beautifully and comfortably. Pat and Roger were more than happy to accomodate our Dukan Diet when preparing their tasty and beautiful breakfasts (even though we ate their homemade cookies in the afternoon when they weren't looking!). I mentioned that I wasn't a coffee drinker and before you know it, an 8-pack of my favorite sold was waiting for me in the fridge. For any of you who don't go anywhere without your electronics, there is at least one power strip in the room for charging two phones, two iPads and two laptops. Each room has a guide to Graycote and Bar Harbor which I lovingly refer to as the "manual." It covered everything from how to operate the alarm clock to what to do on a rainy day. In fact, we were there on the Fourth of July and a copy of the Declaration of Independence was put underneath our door along with the activities in town for the day. The one day we did have a little rain, a copy of the "what to do on a rainy day" piece was slid under our door. Since we surprised Pat and Roger with a two day early arrival, we had to move rooms. Sure enough, everything was explained and handled like a dream. For those of you picky about your showers, there were fabulous nozzles and plenty of pressure and hot water in all three rooms. The cleaning staff is marvelous and always left a dish of chocolate kisses and Werther's on my side of the bed! Even various flavors! Our thanks to Pat and Roger for a delightful stay. Mickey and Paula

We stayed at the Carriage House, separated from the Main House and it was like having your own cabin. The food was beautifully presented, the owners made us feel at home from the moment we arrivedand are very helpful, the location is very convenient. We'll stay here for sure if we go back to Bar Harbour. Thanks Pat and Roger for your hospitality!
