Great stay

4,2 sur octobre 21, 2014

Room was clean and got fresh towels every day. The breakfast was nice and enjoyed talking with different guests each morning. It was locate in a great spot with easy access to WWII museum and street car to get downtown. Appreciated that they let us store our luggage and arranged for our taxi for a late after flight out. It allowed us to wander a bit more before we had to leave.

stopping in

3,2 sur octobre 20, 2014

We were passing thru Nola and decided to spend the afternoon exploring what we could. A good friend recommended this B n B and we were satisfied with the choice. The location is close enough to walk to the Garden District and one block from the St Charles streetcar. The B n B is an older building so it has some "charms" about it. Rooms are spacious, decently furnished, and clean. The innkeeper Beatrice is what makes the stay special. She is very welcoming and helpful, cheerful and interested in who you are. Full disclosure, she is related by marriage to my friend, but didn't give us any special attention that she didn't give to the other guests. I would stay here again upon my return.

Fairchild House

2,6 sur octobre 06, 2014

The Fairchild House is on the outskirts of the Garden District in an area that is a bit sketchy if you have plans to walk to the French Quarter. Our room was clean. Unfortunately the air conditioner was so loud that we could not sleep. Turning it off made the room extremely warm. We ended up having to move to another hotel for the second night of our stay. It ended up being a costly stay.

Walking distance to many attractions

Basic bed and breakfast

3,0 sur septembre 16, 2014

Found this bed and breakfast last minute for a stay in July. Think we ended up with smallest and basic room. It did the job, we needed somewhere to stay and shower, free parking, quiet neighborhood. We were surprised at the very small tv, but we really didn't need it that much. Bathroom was small, shower was even smaller but seemed fairly clean for the most part. We didn't eat breakfast here, so can't comment on that, but we were shown were to go if we desired.

Comfortable

4,2 sur septembre 10, 2014

I had a very enjoyable stay. This B&B is fairly centrally located, making it easy to walk or take the street cars to most of the New Orleans attractions. I particularly liked the secured parking. I parked my car Sunday and did not move it until I left on Wednesday. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water for a shower. That works for me.

B&B in NOLA's Lower Garden District

4,4 sur septembre 06, 2014

Safe, quiet, convenient location. Loved having breakfast in the charming dining room every morning. Beatriz and Rita make you feel like you are a part of their family. I would definitely stay here again.

Great Value in New Orleans!

5 sur août 01, 2014

We stayed at the Fairfield House Bed and Breakfast after finding a recommendation for it online from an experienced traveler. We found it to be charming - it had that real old Southern mansion ambiance. Roland gave us excellent and caring assistance. Beatriz and Rita were also a great help on the phone. We particularly appreciated this a good place to stay between Amtrak trains - the Crescent line runs every day and arrives 7:30 pm, but the connecting service that continues west, the Sunset Limited, leaves 9:00 am and runs every other day. We stayed one night for a total of $101.57 for a queen bed. which includes a light breakfast - you can't beat that for what you get - look at the pictures on their web site! Two cautions: let the hotel get you a taxi coming from the train station - we $20 plus tip when we arranged the taxi going to the hotel, but only $10 plus tip when the hotel arranged it going back. Also, stay three nights instead of one - we did not have enough time there.

a home away from home

4,2 sur juillet 28, 2014

My husband and I stayed at the Fairchild bed and breakfast and we had a wonderful stay. The staff are very helpful and welcoming and kind. We had never been to New Orleans before and they were polite and very helpful in answering my husband and my questions about where to go and what to do. Out of our 4 day stay we only ate the breakfast there 1 time because we were so busy but it was good. Not only was this place cute and clean it was like a home away from home. We will definitely be back here and would definitely recommend this place to others!!!

Very pleasant stay

4,4 sur juillet 26, 2014

The house was old, but clean and welcoming. The people that greeted us both evening and morning were wonderfully kind and genuine. The location is superb. I think this was a tremendous bargain and we enjoyed our stay very much.

wonderful stay

3,8 sur juillet 10, 2014

Stayed at Fairchild for 7 nights..d room was nothing great yet me n my colleague had a wonderful stay..the breakfast lounge saw people mingling and sharing tales of their stay..Beatrice the b&b owner was extremely helpful and guided us with the touristy and culinary destinations..she even helped us book cab and tour reservations..the location was close to the morial convention center and dat helped us as we were there for a convention..will stay here again if visiting NOLA to get the true taste of southern hospitality..:-)

Location and value can't be beat!

3,4 sur juin 24, 2014

Fairchild House is a gem in a neighborhood that offers easy accessibility to great food and the trolley. It was clean, safe, and quiet. Breakfast was a perfect holdover for our dinners out (which were heavy and alcohol filled). The St. Charles trolley is one block away and for $3 you can ride back and forth (to the French Qtr) all day until 4 am (far cheaper than a cab). I loved all the antiques in the house (it's actually 3 houses). I took little mini tours every morning after breakfast to see everything. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back.

Quiet convenient location

4,2 sur juin 20, 2014

The room was very nice even had it's own outside private entrance. The locate was perfect to hope on the Street cars had head either down to Bourbon street or any of the other great attractions and come back to a nice quite location to recharge.

Comfortable, friendly.

5 sur juin 16, 2014

We met mostly with Beatriz and Ross (Russ?), both of whom were friendly and helpful. It rained heavily during our stay, and umbrellas were available to us. The property is only a block away from the St. Charles street car, and there are lots of dining options around the area.

Beautiful room and location!

5 sur juin 10, 2014

Just lovely Bed and Breakfast. High quality everything. Great location in the Historic Garden District. Walking distance from St. Charles streetcars.

Enjoyed my stay!

4,4 sur juin 04, 2014

We love the area! Truly enjoyed at stay! All employees were nice and helpful, if we needed.

First time in New Orleans

4,6 sur juin 01, 2014

This was our first time visiting New Orleans. They are situated in the Garden district which was great for early morning exploring and only a block from the trolley, which led to adventures in the French Quarter. The staff was fantastic, giving suggestions of where to go, places to check out and what was available in the immediate area for food and entertainment.

Our New Orleans new treasure find!!

5 sur juin 01, 2014

Great groupon surprise! Was little worried about location but was fine & safe!

Great Value

3,8 sur mai 31, 2014

This was a wonderful old B&B for a good value. It was very centrally located close to everything in New Orleans. Would recommend to anyone on a budget!

A really good place to stay

3,8 sur mai 16, 2014

I had a great time staying at Fairchild House. It is convenient for exploring the whole of New Orleans and the St. Charles Street car stop is only a block away. It is situated in the Garden district but not too far away from Downtown. Comfortable room and a simple but satisfactory breakfast. I would definitely stay again if I returned to the city.

Nice B&B

3,6 sur avril 28, 2014

they offer fruit salad for breakfast which is nice, and cheese too. but besides that choices are a bit limited. anyway, they're super-friendly hosts!

Great B&B

4,8 sur avril 24, 2014

Great Breakfast, very clean rooms, nice and very helpful staff. close to St.Charles Streetcar (about 2 min walk) and to the city center (about 5 stops with St.Charles)

We would recommend

3,8 sur avril 07, 2014

Great location and a wonderful host. Be sure to make happy hour at the blind pelican just a 5 min walk.....dozen oysters for $3.00

Stay at Fairchild house

3,4 sur mars 30, 2014

Reasonably priced,clean rooms, friendly service.

Good value B&B

3,0 sur mars 29, 2014

Fairchild House was quaint and run by a friendly staff. The location was perfect (accessible to both the Garden District and CBD/French Quarter). The rooms were kept tidy, however could use seasonal cleanings to freshen up rugs and a/c filters.

Restroom issues

3,6 sur mars 27, 2014

Everyone was very helpful and even allowed us to check in early since our flight landed early. That was very helpful! Our room was ok, there were stains on the carpet and the bathroom door was 2-3 feet from the bed. The bathroom door doesn't close, it was warped from the heat I guess and even has damage from where it has been this way for so long without being fixed. There was only one small mirror in the bathroom and nothing in the bedroom so it was difficult to have two people getting ready at the same time. Otherwise, as I said, everyone was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The bed was comfortable and clean and we slept like babies. My main issue was with the bathroom door, nothing takes the mystery out of a relationship like using the restroom with the door open (only partially) and especially when it's 2 feet from the bed. The room did need to be repainted as it looked like the job was started and never finished but this is just aesthetics and didn't make or break my stay. It is close to the st Charles street car and the start of magazine street shopping so, overall, in a great location.

Very Pleased!

4,6 sur mars 26, 2014

We had such a lovely stay at the Fairchild. The location is excellent-- just far enough from the French Quarter that it's a quiet and low-key place to stay, but close enough to walk to everything you want to see in New Orleans, especially if the weather's nice!. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were comfy/cozy. I'd absolutely return here and recommend it to others.

spring fling

4,4 sur mars 20, 2014

My son and I had a wonderful 1st time in New Orleans! The Inn was lovely and convenient to transportation! Inn keepers were wonderful and shared experiences and ideas on what to do!!!!!! We would go back in a heartbeat! !!!

A pleasant experience!

4,0 sur mars 16, 2014

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Fairchild House when we visited last May. Beatriz was very friendly and welcoming and they made us feel like we were home. The room was comfortable (although the desk chair was not) and even though it was ridiculously hot when we visited, the room was always nice and cool. We have a reservation for a return visit coming up soon!

Loved it!

4,6 sur mars 12, 2014

Loved this place! A great way to be in the mood of New Orleans.

Great value, convenient location

4,0 sur mars 09, 2014

This was a great value, and it totally reminded me of the my old apartment when I used to live in New Orleans. My room had huge windows, hardwood floors, high ceilings, and antique furniture. I liked that there was a kitchenette and free WIFI. I would suggest that the innkeepers put in more furniture with larger drawers. The innkeepers were friendly, and the breakfast was more than just "continental." This B&B is located conveniently in the Lower Garden District, within easy walking distance to the CBD, convention center, Warehouse District, Uptown, streetcars, and bus lines. I would definitely staying here again some day.

Good place to stay

4,2 sur février 27, 2014

I made last minute reservations in NOLA. This hotel had easy access to the French Quarter and I had no issues. They had free parking off the street with easy access to your car if needed. The InnKeepers were extremely nice and pleasant. The guest were also pleasant to talk too. I would go back if necessary. Thanks for allowing us to stay at your B & B. LL

Nice place to stay

3,6 sur février 27, 2014

Really nice place stay, not far from the historical center, in a quiet quarter. Lovely welcome (even when you arrive late) and good breakfast.

A Great Stay

4,0 sur février 19, 2014

We loved the House and had a great time. Very comfortable!

Lovely !

4,6 sur février 19, 2014

Stayed two nights , great rooms, nice and quiet, quick streetcar ride into the French quarter , clean and Ross who works there is a legend !

Valentine's Stay

5 sur février 18, 2014

Nice, quiet, friendly staff and guest. Nice area with alot of restaurants near by. Very close to the streetcar and downtown area. The house is gated and you need your key for access in and out of the property. Very secure. I would recommend to others and I would stay again as well.

Great little B&B

3,4 sur février 07, 2014

I enjoyed my stay at this cozy B&B. The staff were very friendly and the location is perfect...just 1 block from the St. Charles streetcar line. I would certainly stay here again!

Fun experience

3,4 sur février 06, 2014

My girlfriend and I stayed here over the weekend because most of the hotels in town were booked for some convention. We were overall very pleased with the Fairchild House. The location, one block from the St Charles streetcar line in the garden district was very convenient. We parked our car in the private gated lot behind the building and left it there all weekend. There is a New Orleans police officer who acts as security gaurd for the whole block surrounding the building at night making us feel even safer in an already nice area of the city. The only complaint I have from our whole stay is the bed was very firm and I could feel the springs. My girlfriend didnt mind it at all but I really had trouble sleeping through the night. The staff were very polite and willing to offer any advice you were looking for. I think next time i stay in New Orleans i would prefer a hotel but this was a fun and different experience that I would definitely recommend. We enjoyed it very much!

Bonito y Familiar

great location

4,2 sur janvier 30, 2014

Fairchild House is very close to St Charles trolley and Magazine St. A mile from down town and easy walk to the Garden district. My room ( $89 ) was basic but clean and comfortable with a great garden walk out. Fairchild has much nicer rooms than the one I stayed in but mine was fine for what I wanted. Great restaurants within close walking distance. Owners and staff could not have been more helpful in making recommendations for places to eat or check out. I would happily stay there again.

Great value in a charming building

4,0 sur janvier 29, 2014

The Fairchild House is in a very old, wooden building, and so comes with the attendant problems. The sound insulation isn't perfect, the rooms show their age a little, but all in all, I find that part of the appeal of a B&B. The place is obviously cared for, and the service was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable, the towels soft and clean, and I never ran short of hot water. Given the price and its location near the French Quarter, but at the edge of the quieter Garden district, I think that this is an excellent value, and would recommend it.

Well located, good price

3,2 sur janvier 23, 2014

Nothing fancy but certainly acceptable, charming even, with top of the line linens and everything working ok. Hosts were quite friendly, breakfast was simple but good (including fresh fruit), street parking readily available. My only concern was the windows didn't open which I feel is a fire/safety hazard.

Pleasant Stay

3,0 sur décembre 28, 2013

Lovely B & B at a very convenient location. Close to the trolley and good restaurants and bars. We rented the suite with the balcony - New Orleans at its finest. Great staff and breakfast. Safe, private parking. I would stay here again!

Lovely hostess!

4,6 sur décembre 17, 2013

Quirky, lovely B & B about 5/10 mins by Tram to 'downtown' French Quarter. Owner, Beatriz was very helpful & full of good advice. I can't wait too return for another visit. Only negative was the tiny old TV in the bedroom - however it seemed to go with the place!

Charming and cozy

4,4 sur décembre 15, 2013

Fairchild house BnB is a great place to stay in New Orleans. The rooms are clean, the beds are really comfortable and the decor is quite pretty. Prices were very reasonable and breakfast was good. The Lower Garden district is a great neighborhood to discover in NOLA, with beautiful architecture and nice restaurants. I would definitely recommend this place to friends.

Fairchild B&B Review - excellent experience!

4,4 sur novembre 25, 2013

This is the second time I have stayed at this B&B, and I continue to be impressed. The personalized service stemming from a true New Orleans culture of hospitality are evident. If I ever need another New Orleans B&B I have no reason to go anywhere else.

Extended Weekend

4,0 sur novembre 17, 2013

Fantastic location! Beatriz was extremely friendly and accommodating.

Last Night in New Orleans

4,8 sur novembre 15, 2013

The service was excellent, and the room was very pretty. I really enjoyed staying here on our last night in New Orleans. I wish we had booked more than one night with you! :)

Great value in a great location.

3,6 sur novembre 15, 2013

A lovely heritage home at the edge of the Garden District. Close to the sights, easy access to the trolley. Comfortable and clean, with extremely helpful staff and hosts.

Pretty good for the money

3,6 sur novembre 10, 2013

the double suite not at all the room pictured when I made my reservation; . bed was hard and pillows flat. some pink mold in corners of shower. Needs a good scrubbing down (baseboards etc) maybe a little freshening up of the paint as well. Hostesses were lovely. It's a perfect location. Breakfast wwas delicious.

Won't be the last time I stay here.

3,6 sur novembre 06, 2013

This was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and the pickings were slim as my event (a friend's wedding) was the same weekend as Voodoo Fest. The room didn't look like the picture online, but it had a nice bathroom, a small TV, and a nice kitchenette. Although I wasn't in my room most of the time we were in town, it had a nice homey feel to it. Breakfast (of which I had both mornings during my stay) had a nice variety of food and beverages. I felt very welcome and enjoyed chatting with the owners who were always asking if I needed any suggestions for food, entertainment, or fun things to do. Since I was in town for a friend's wedding and didn't get much time to be a tourist, I didn't get to hear their suggestions, but I do plan on returning as the location was in a very comfortable feeling area. Parking was nice. They had a small parking space that was gated that could maybe fit 5 vehicles, but there was always space for my car. Even if the area was full, I would feel comfortable leaving my car on the street. The B&B was in a very nice area. Within walking distance was the best sushi I had ever had, along with other restaurants I can't wait to try. Being a block away from St. Charles, it was secluded enough that I didn't feel the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to walk to Lee Circle or the WWII museum which I did get a chance to finally see. I live in Covington so it wasn't too exotic of a trip, but my fiance and I have both decided that should we need to stay in NOLA again, we'd definitely stay at Fairchild. The value was nice, the staff friendly, location perfect, and the atmosphere was very welcoming.

Nola trip

3,8 sur octobre 27, 2013

Good visit!

Moderate comfort, excellent value with an unbeatable location

3,2 sur octobre 25, 2013

My husband and I recently stayed here during our first visit to New Orleans. The main wing of the hotel is apparently undergoing some renovations, so we were in the second building. The room we had was upstairs, with a private entrance we more or less used exclusively. The facilities were antiquated, including a claw-footed tub that was held level by a folded-up FedEx envelope. Despite the fact that things were older, the Fairchild House had its own charm. The towels were luxurious and replaced every day, the location is in the middle of the Garden District and conveniently located one block from the St. Charles streetcar line and a short walk from Magazine Street. There's plenty to do and see nearby, and conveniences like a Walgreens within a couple of minutes. The complimentary wi-fi also made our trip a lot easier, as we were able to look up a lot of resources without having to eat into our data plans. Breakfast is, as others have mentioned, very light, with little more than coffee, yogurt, toast, and some coffee cake during the weekdays, and slightly heavier fare on the weekends. Probably the best resource was the hosts, who are all locals and who can give great advice as to what to do and see around the area. You won't get better a better bang for your buck than the Fairchild House - moderate prices, great location, and reasonable amenities.

Far better than a multi chain hotel

3,2 sur octobre 22, 2013

Very relaxed atmosphere with pleasant owners. Everything we needed from holiday accommodation.

Great Location

4,0 sur octobre 19, 2013

One block from streetcar stop and quick ride to French Quarter.

3 day swing in the Big Easy

4,8 sur octobre 17, 2013

Great value for money in an area that is only a short streetcar to downtown. Hospitality and service from staff was first rate. Definitely recommend if you want to save money for the dining and drinking when in NOLA.

Great Service!

5 sur octobre 15, 2013

The staff/owners were so friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast is really good and the rooms are all really nice. I've stayed in 3 different ones! The suite is especially nice.

A great place to stay

4,6 sur octobre 15, 2013

This is a great place to stay that is walking distance from both trolley and bus stops. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I will gladly stay here again if I return to New Orleans!

great place to stay!

4,2 sur octobre 14, 2013

Enjoyed the Fairchild House. Very comfortable and great location. If we ever get the chance to visit New Orleans again, we will most definitely stay here. The inn keeper is great & friendly staff/family. Rooms are very comfortable and affordable.

Stay at Fairchild House B&B

3,6 sur août 21, 2013

Enjoyed my stay at the Fairchild House B&B. Very good communication with owners--I arrived late but they were waiting for me to let me in. Room was clean and comfortable with ac and my own bathroom. The B&B was very quiet and in a historic area that is being gentrified--very close to the St Charles Avenue streetcar and also good restaurants. Would happily come back and will pass onto friends planning to visit NOLA.

Best part was gated parking. Breakfast was not much better than motel.

Perfect stay!!!

5 sur août 05, 2013

It was the perfect stay in New Orleans! Very nice people, beautiful room, lovely neighborhood, walking distance from the French Quarter (if you don't mind a walk, about 15/20 minutes. Taxi at night was $10), wonderful breakfast in a beautiful room. There was a nice garden. Free parking.

One night at the B&B

Excellent stay at the Fairchild House B & B!

4,8 sur juillet 03, 2013

My fiance and I stayed at this bed and breakfast for two nights recently. I was hesistant at first, having always stayed downtown in a hotel on our past trips. I was blown away by the bed and breakfast atmosphere and friendliness! The room was small but very clean with access to the rest of the house and huge front porch with rockers. The breakfast each morning exceeded my expectations with home made quiches and breakfast breads, fruits, yogurt, cereal and juice. The owner Beatrice was the nicest lady you have ever met, stopping to chat at breakfast and helping us with a find fun things to do and eat in the city. I will definitely go back and hopefully get a chance at one of their suites offered with private balcony. Thanks Fairchild House for an all around wonderful experience! Linda Gunter

Perfectly Located B&B

4,6 sur juillet 01, 2013

Stayed here for one night and was happy with the location and it's proximity to the trolly. Also, the staff was very knowledgeable about the area and had many recommendations for food and fun. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful and even included homemade breads. I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed at Fairchild House B&B for 1 night for a birthday get away. It was an excellent establishment and I'd definitely go back.

Nice stay

4,0 sur juin 11, 2013

We had a nice stay at Fairchild Bed and Breakfast. It was a great value for the price and we were happy to find a room on short notice. The room was a little worn, some things could have been fixed easily like a small hole in the floor and a broken drawer. The supervisor was very nice and we were very pleased overall. Thank you!

Great Place to stay

4,6 sur juin 11, 2013

Great room, close to streetcar and walking distance to everything,Owners are very friendly and helpful .We loved this place. No Dinning but breakfast is o.k.

Great stay for the price - wonderful host

3,8 sur juin 07, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for a quick little getaway since he had never been to New Orleans. I didn't want to spend a fortune by booking a hotel nearby so we decided to go with a bed and breakfast. After searching a few hours for a great place, I found Fairchild House. The price was great and almost seemed too good to be true. When we arrived, the host was very helpful and sweet and guided us on where to park (which is gated and locked - very comforting). She then led us to our room which was quiet and dainty. The house is old so don't expect top notch quality. But it was great for the price! We found the area to be pretty quiet too which was nice after a long day of walking in the French Quarter. Also, the streetcar is located a block away which was extremely nice. When morning came we headed downstairs to the breakfast room where the host greeted us and welcomed us to the continental style breakfast. Nothing too fancy but we enjoyed it. Overall it was a lovely stay. No complaints here.

Great Deal!

4,2 sur mai 29, 2013

My boyfriend and I had a great week away here last month. This was our 3rd trip to New Orleans and our first time in a "bed and breakfast." We absolutely loved it here and plan to stay here again on our next trip. I think some of the people who have stayed here and have given it bad reviews are just too picky! The breakfast consists of bagels, toast, fresh fruit, coffee etc. It is nothing extravagant and it certainly doesn't claim to be. We started our mornings off with a cup of coffee there and then went on to eat breakfast else where because I LOVE beignets and can't get them anywhere in MO. Also there is a great breakfast place called the blue plate a block down the road. The room was perfect for us! I didn't mind the A/C as others have complained about being noisy. The house is a musty old smell but what do you expect in a 100+ year old building?!? Besides, we didn't spend much time in our room as we were out enjoying ourselves anyway. Beatriz and her mother are very sweet and make you feel welcomed. I also felt extremely safe at the Fairchild. Everything is locked and even our car was in a locked gate. There is also some kind of officer that stayed and patroled the neighborhood every night we were there. Great location as well!!!!!

Thank you for sharing your review. So glad you enjoyed yourselves at the B&B and in New Orleans. I think you got us! The office is hired by the furniture store down the block.

NOLA

3,4 sur mai 14, 2013

We had a great time at Fairchild House during our stay in NOLA for Jazz Fest. Beatriz is very friendly and we loved the yards. Wish breakfast service was a little longer than 1 hour, but other than that can't complain!

Thanks for the time to review the Fairchild House. I am happy you enjoyed your stay with us and got to sit in the courtyard. We keep the official time of breakfast at one hour. Guests are always welcome to come in and sit after Breakfast is done or take a tray.

Wonderful Mini Vacation and B & B Experience

4,2 sur mai 03, 2013

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast. My hubby had a business meeting on Monday, and since we had never been to New Orleans we decided to make it into a mini get away. Unfortunately, I did not know that Jazz Fest was taking place, but stumbled upon the Fairchild B & B after much searching for reasonably priced accomodations. We had no difficulty in locating the Fairchild, and were happy to have secured off-street parking for our car. The room was comfortable, clean and both my husband and I slept like rocks each night. The rooms have "character" and "charm". The highlight or our stay was going down for breakfast each morning and chit-chatting with the Beatriz and her mother while enjoying coffee. My husband and I are both early risers and Beatriz let us slip in for "early" coffee. Breakfast was fabulous with breads, jams, fresh fruit and then a warm prepared breakfast dish. A wonderful way to start off each morning. The location of the Inn is fabulous, you are within walking distance of everything, and the trolley is one block away. Restaurants are abundant ranging from high end fine dining to a pizza joint. We had a great time in New Orleans, and the entire experience was enhanced by the Fairchild B & B. I can't wait to return in the Fall. Thanks Beatriz and Rita!

Enjoyed at Beatriz' and Rita's B&B. Delightful atmosphere, both in the room and with the breakfast room where there was plenty of foods to choose from. Healthy choices, too. Our room and bathroom was immaculately clean and had everything anyone could want for a two-night stay.

Would Stay Again

4,0 sur avril 09, 2013

Fairchild is in an awesome location, Beatriz is an awesome hostess, the rooms are very quaint and roomy. The location is only 1 block from the trolleys and it seems very safe. However, we didn't dare turn on the ceiling fan cause you could see an inch of dust caked on it and the bedspread was stain and only hoped it was clean. Other than those areas the room was what I expected for an old, old b&b. If you are looking for something super modern, or a business center, or a doorman then this not the place for you. I found it quaint and they still use real keys for the doors. It's old but has a lot of charm and like I said in a great location!!

Interesting B&B

3,8 sur avril 06, 2013

This is a quaint and cosy B&B with very hospitable owners. They provided lots of advice and information which made our short stay action packed! It is ideally situated.

Would stay again, good location

4,4 sur avril 02, 2013

This is a quaint B&B. Everyone is friendly, the breakfast is awesome and the location is great. The only complaint is the chairs and bedspread in the room were stained and "looked" dirty, otherwise the room was clean and roomy. There are stairs so if they are difficult for you make sure you ask for a room on the bottom floor.

An affordable property

3,6 sur mars 29, 2013

The property was nicer than I expected for the price. The staff is very gracious and the property is well maintained. The location is ideal for people who plan to explore other parts of New Orleans beside the French Quarter. The buildings are old so the walls are somewhat thin.

Another great experience at the Fairchild House.

5 sur mars 28, 2013

Always a great stay. Friendly staff, clean rooms and a great location. Highly recommended.

This was just what I needed

4,2 sur mars 27, 2013

I can't limit how lovely my stay was to 2,000 characters, so I've posted my review on my website. This is a great place to stay for writers, filmmakers and anyone wanting to be away from the crowds and noise of the French Quarter. http://bit.ly/YEZ97I

Best place to stay off the beaten path in NOLA

4,2 sur mars 23, 2013

Beatriz was flexible , knowledgable, and accommodating . Safe, clean, great value just blocks from St Charles Street car and a great outdoor space to relax, read or just soak in the sun. Would definitely stay here again.

Laid-back Friendly B&B

3,2 sur mars 20, 2013

The Innkeeper and staff were very nice, walls are a bit thin, can be noisy when people are coming and going.

Fairchild House New Orleans

4,8 sur mars 19, 2013

Everything was absolutely fantastic! Perfect little bed and breakfast with a lot of history. Very nice and helpful staff, just don't expect to be full after the breakfast... light cereal cheese and fruit are provided.

Great value, lots of character

4,0 sur mars 03, 2013

During our stay, we were looking for a quiet, good night's rest in a safe area of town with easy access to the quarter and river front. This is it. The staff Are all very accommodating, the rooms remind me of my grandparents' old house: tall ceilings, wood floorboards. Modernized bathrooms. Heat and a/c in every room. We saved money and slept well. Breakfast was a hand-crafted, small but delicious nibble before we ventured into the city. Will stay again.

Great value

3,6 sur février 28, 2013

Great value for the location!

Just what I was looking for...

3,8 sur février 26, 2013

Basically, when I go to Nola, I'm just looking for a place to sleep in a safe convenient location. Fairchild House was perfect for me. The accommodations are New Orleans through and through. Great location. Outside of the French quarter (which is a plus for me) but close enough to get there in 5 minutes or less. Easy access to other New Orleans attractions: Audubon park and zoo, Tulane University, Central Business District, Superdome, etc. I always take my bicycle to New Orleans because that's the best way to get around in the French Quarter/Uptown area. The location was very secure. I never felt unsafe. There is secure parking on the property, but I parked on the street without a worry. After reading the reviews, I wasn't expecting much in the way of breakfast. But I was very pleased. In fact, Beatriz offered exactly what I have at home each day. As far as price, it's hard to find a lodging bargain in New Orleans, but this was one. I look forward to my next visit.

Excellent B&B

3,4 sur novembre 19, 2012

Fairchild House was perfect for our short stay in New Orleans. Breakfast was as good as home. Only issue that might frustrate some is wifi was basically unusable in our room or even outside. Perhaps it only worked in office area, but we didn't check that.

5 nights at the Fairchild

3,0 sur novembre 16, 2012

The room we were first assigned, had a very uncomfortable mattress. Definitely needs replaced. There was a problem with the shower. After alerting the inn keeper was immediately assigned to another room. A much more comfortable bed. The breakfast each AM was good. Fresh fruit, breads, cereal, coffee tea juice etc. The WiFi didn't work in our room. It works in the dining area but was very slow at times. This is a good location, convenient to the city.

GREAT BASE FOR NOLA WEEKEND

Good location, pleasant surroundings and friendly people. We enjoyed our stay.

5 sur octobre 20, 2012

Thank you so much for taking such good care of us in New Orleans! It made my meeting so much better to feel well-rested all week! The breakfasts are wonderful, especially the delicious casserole your mother makes for the weekend! Having wifi available was a great & very important perk for us. The short walk to the convention center was just enough exercise for my aging joints. We will be back to see you as soon as we can get back to New Orleans again!

great place, will return

Clean, safe, quiet. Helpful, friendly staff. Lovely room. Short walk from a variety of restaurants, antique stores, streetcar, neighborhood market and Magazine St. Highly recommended.

Wonderful value and just what we needed!

4,8 sur août 10, 2012

My little family of three wanted to take our summer vacation in NOLA to do the Audubon Experience, but didn't want to stay right at the quarter due to the often higher prices charged to stay there. We booked with Beatriz for last weekend and I'm SO happy we did. She gave us the perfect room to accommodate us, and was informative long before our stay. She called me the week of just to let me know that she would be out of town on her own little vacation, but that there would be someone there to greet us. We arrived and were never kept waiting, checked right in, and we're given an immediate tour of the facilities. My first reaction was to the security: AMAZING. It's not located in a "bad" part of town, however you still like to know that your vehicle will be secure being parked for two days. 6-foot high+ iron privacy fence with key access and this included parking our car on site (for no extra charge!) A rarity in NOLA. The room was nice and cool when we arrived and clean! We were happy to have cable as the Olympics had just begun that night :) The only tiny issue I had with the room at all was water pressure, however I'm quite sure that isn't due to the fault of the inn, but most likely the area we were staying. The air flow is more limited at night outside the rooms so it can get a bit musty should you walk down the hall. But in the morning everything is back to full speed and fresh. Breakfast was a God-send as well! So many choices including breads, cereal, juices, cake and fruits. Another big money saver on top of an already great value! The bus and trolley stops are a block and a half up on St Charles and you'll have no trouble catching one to wherever you need to go. Restaurants are at the same corner and we ate dinner at two of them. Delich! Thank you to Beatriz and the wonderful staff left in charge in her absence!! We will return and can't wait to see them again!

Location , Location, Location

3,4 sur août 02, 2012

the location was great to everything we had to do. Pleasure stroll in the Quarter, a wedding, and the reception at City Park. Also my sister has both knees replaced and they were helpful in giving us a room downstairs by the courtyard.

A Wonderful Place to Stay

This is a beautiful old home full of antiques. We enjoyed out stay very much and the manager was most congenial and helpful.

Okay, no frills.

Decent comfortable place with acceptable breakfast for a short stay close to the convention center. Noisy air conditioners, so bring ear plugs.

Home away from home

3,6 sur juillet 02, 2012

We have enjoyed the Fairchild House twice for long visits to relatives in New Orleans. There is a relaxed, homelike feeling there. The rooms are clean. The service is friendly and good. The breakfast has something for everyone. The secure parking and outdoor patio make an extended stay more relaxed. The house is attractive, the location excellent, and the price is fair.

Wonderful Stay

4,0 sur juin 26, 2012

Beatriz upgraded us to the King Suite, as it was unoccupied. Wonderful service.

Loved it!

4,4 sur juin 06, 2012

I have always wanted to go to New Orleans by myself and do the things I want to do! I stayed at the Fairchild Bed and Breakfast Friday May 18 to Monday Monday May 21 2012. It was in great location and just a block away from the St. Charles street car acsess. Like I said I was traveling alone and never once felt unsafe or treathened. The street car was 3 bucks a day and it took you all over the garden district and the french quarter. I can't say enough good things about Fairchild Bed and Breakfast. The building I stayed in was like a step back in time. I felt like a southernen belle retiring to my room after a long day! The antique furnishing and painting completed this feeling of being alive in a different period of time. The owner was very nice. She was full of helpful advice for planning a great day. The breakfast was great! One morning she cooked eggs and another day a tasty breakfast casarole. Loved this place would highly recommend it!

Very Warm & Welcoming B&B

4,8 sur juin 05, 2012

My husband and I stayed at this B&B with our 3 year old a few weeks ago and had a lovely time. The room was clean, the breakfast was wonderful, and the staff was extra friendly. The location was nice, very close to downtown but yet away from all the noise. We enjoyed walking down St. Charles and taking the trolly into town. We are staying again in a few weeks when we go back to visit. I love southern comfort and you are not going to find that in a major hotel.

Réponse du propriétaire

3,2 sur mai 31, 2012

Needed a place to stay for a couple of days worth of Mardi Gras, and this place had an opening. My first B&B stay, and I am now officially spoiled. Inkeeper was a little preoccupied with being in a MG parade; her relatives stepped up. Her mom cooked me a nice breakfast. The breakfast room was fun to relax in and visit with fellow guests, and hear stories about NOLA and MG. Fenced off-street parking. WiFi. My room draperies needed a clothespin and they brought me a selection.

Réponse du propriétaire
I am so glad to hear you are spoiled. Hope you will search for more B&B's in the future. Mardi Gras is definitely a big preocupation. I have been riding for years with a few different groups (Krewes), but now am a member of the new Krewe of Nyx. This was our first year riding, and oh boy how people came out to see us. It was amazing!! If you stay with us during Mardi Gras, you will for sure become part of the family. You might even have to watch my daughter! I was wondering what that clothespin was about. I think I figured out the issue. Next year. We ride the Wednesday after Super Bowl!!

Decent place to stay.

2,8 sur mai 30, 2012

The price for Fairchild House is alright, and is what attracted me to it. The room I stayed in was tiny, with a window unit for A/C, and a small, stand-up shower. The location is excellent, being a couple blocks from the St. Charles rail, and also very close to The Avenue Pub, which is one of the top 50 Beer Bars in the world. Additionally, down the street is the Blue Plate, which has amazing shrimp and grits. I am saying this partially because the breakfast hear leaves a bit to be desired. Store-bought bagels and english muffins, cereal, and fruit are the staples, and usually some sort of egg dish. Not bad, but not what I would expect from a B&B. The employees are all very nice, especially the owner and her mother, who will chat you up in the breakfast room. The room is adequately clean, and they'll replace the towels daily. Overall, this was an alright place to stay. I'd stay again.

Réponse du propriétaire
Glad to know you had a decent stay with us. Just to clarify to all, our breakfast, as stated on our web site is a Continental Plus. This consists of assorted breads (we serve bagels, English muffins, cinnamon/raisin bread & whole wheat bread), coffee cake/muffins, fresh fruit, 2 types of cold cereal, oatmeal, plain yogurt, coffee, assorted teas, milk and OJ. We look forward to hosting you again in the future.

Comfortable, Easy on Frills & Recommended

4,0 sur mai 24, 2012

We just checked in & so far so good. It's an old house so nothing's perfect (to the negative reviewers) but overall the rooms are clean w/attention to even the curtains being recently washed. Deluxe king room has 2 twins pushed together which is fine for us but some may not care for it. Bathroom is clean w/the only exception being old/dirty floor tile grout. Room has amenities such as hair dryer & mini fridge. The over all feel brings me back to days of visiting friends who lived in an old Victorian home. This place is a nice change of pace from the hotel chains. As a professional housekeeper when not on vacation, I recommend this B&B to the traveler looming for charm. Friendly staff as well. Very homey & we'd stay again.

Réponse du propriétaire
Thanks for the review and for the recommendation. I think we can easily fix the grout issue and the curtains. Actually, after putting up the curtains we noticed they were uneven, even thought we purchased them in the same same size. I will put some new ones in so it does not look uneven.

The Fairchild House offers Southern Hospitality with a Brazilian flair. We always enjoy our stay here. It is convenient to most of the city with out driving - they are only a block off of the St Charles Street Car. You get the convenience without the noise of St. Charles. We are always made to feel like family instead of customers - This is a wonderful place for a New Orleans getaway and still have access to everything that makes New Orleans what it is famous for.

It's great because it's out of the mess of the French Quarter, but still in walking distance or a short streetcar ride up to the action. You are also in walking distance of the Garden District and Magazine Street. Beatriz was a great host and the breakfast every morning was great. We really enjoyed having our own private room and spacious bathroom. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable, authentic stay in New Orleans!

A perfect experience

5 sur mars 17, 2012

This was my first time staying at a B&B. I've stayed in all kinds accommodations from five star hotels to bunk beds in hostels and this is my most memorable stay yet. The house is gorgeous, both interior and exterior. You get a key to the gate, building, and room so you're safe and have the freedom to leave and return as you please. Beatriz was an approachable and fun host. She engaged us in conversation over breakfast and gave us sightseeing tips. Breakfast was delicious, especially the lemon cake. Location was right at the street car stop and only two or three stops from the French Quarter. Parking was available on the street right in front, as well as an exclusive parking lot in the back. I can't think of a single point to complain about.

The furnishings are suitable to the period, even if not always in the best shape or of the best quality. All is clean and neat. The host is very friendly and accommodating to special request. The location is excellent for access to New Orleans' attractions. The price is below average for a B&B in New Orleans.

Ideal location to explore NO

4,4 sur février 18, 2012

If we had stayed in the French Quarter, we probably wouldn't have made it to many points farther uptown in the Garden Distrct. Though this place seems like it's too close to the highway and to the action, it's actually very quiet and tranquil. Beatriz and her family (especially her mother!) were exceedingly welcoming and helpful, displaying expansive knowledge about the area and the local cuisine. This place does not provide itself on a gourmet breakfast, but I knew that going into it. Its value lies far more in its location and wonderful hospitality. Besides, I'd much much much rather eat some beignets from Cafe du Monde or another of the myriad dining establishments. Highly recommended!

Wonderful experience!!!

5 sur février 17, 2012

What a great find!!! We were a few blocks from best parade viewing spots, had a great breakfast. The B and B was quiet, nicely furnished, safe and we enjoyed our breakfast hostess!! Nothing fancy -- just a couple of really cool OLD houses at the N.E. edge of the Garden District, right near the Warehouse District. 2 blocks to St. Charles streetcar; ~8 block walk to convention center (or $5 cab). Very easy to get to the Quarter via streetcar. The owners are wonderful, and the continental breakfast seals the deal.

Fairchild House is a great old house and staying there reminded me of visiting old friends for a couple of days. It was quiet, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Fairchild House Feels Like Home

3,6 sur décembre 23, 2011

The Fairchild House is great value for the money. It is located in a comfortable, interesting Lower Garden District neighborhood in two mid-nineteenth homes, furnished with antiques and eclectic accents. The beds could be softer and the showers roomier and I would appreciate a microwave in the room, but Ms. Rita and the friendly ambience make up for these things.

Réponse du propriétaire
I am glad mom treated you well. We have a couple of rooms with microwave and usually we have some extras if really needed. Some rooms do have small box showers, it was all we could put in to give each room a private bathroom. Thank you for the review, glad you had a good time.

30-Somethings in NOLA

4,0 sur novembre 16, 2011

My fiance and I came to New Orleans for a friend's 30th birthday kind of last minute and had a hard time booking a stay for a reasonable price. We were so lucky to find the Fairchild House! It was a very unique place to stay, quiet, comfortable, and a fun location. I think the weekend we were there was exceptionally busy as it took on average 45 minutes for us to get to where our friends were staying in the French Quarter via streetcar. But it was worth it. The Fairchild House was a fun place to stay for us 30-somethings and I also plan on taking my mom here in the future.

This is a great place to stay for the price. Its located between downtown and the garden district. We chose to bring our bikes and ride around town and this location was an easy ride to the French Quarter in one direction and the Garden District in the other. My only complaint is the lack of signage out front. It took a few minutes to find it, even though the web sites directions were great.

Réponse du propriétaire
What a beautiful weekend it was to ride your bikes! Happy to know you both enjoyed your time in the city and at the Fairchild House. We decided 20 years ago not to put a sign outside, there is a very small plaque on the gate. So be sure to look for the number on the house when looking for us. Thanks for taking the time to post a review.

Nice, but not the room we thought we were getting

3,2 sur juillet 26, 2011

The place was nice, comfortable, and beautiful. and on the whole, we would recommend it, even though the room we were in was not the one we had requested (and were told we could have) when we made our reservations. We can not comment on the Breakfast portion of the stay, as we only stayed one night and had to leave prior to breakfast being served the next morning. I will also warn about the New Orleans cab companies, though we do not hold this against the Fairchild or its Innkeepers. When we checked in, we arranged with the innkeeper to have a cab scheduled to pick us up at 6:15 the next morning. We were at the street at 6:00 am, only to be stood up by the cab company (unfortunately, I do not know which one, as we did not overhear which one was called). At 6:20, we realized that the cab was not coming, and had to walk the 11 blocks to the Amtrak station dragging our luggage behind us in the humid, oppressive Louisiana July heat.

Réponse du propriétaire
I read this review when you first put it up and got in touch with the cab company. The company told me the reservation was booked for 5:15 am. I will say they are a reliable company and we obviously had a misscommunication. I know walking fast in the summer is no fun. Regarding the room, you booked a Standard Double and I upgrade you to a Superior Queen. I had a room with a queen and thought you would prefer a larger room. My mistake for not asking. I am glad you did enjoy your short stay with us and thank you for posting a review.

Nice Place, Nice People

4,2 sur juillet 25, 2011

The Fairchild House is a great place to stay in New Orleans. It is clean and very comfortable. The people there were wonderful and very helpful. They even went out of their way to prepare a gluten free breakfast for me. The location of the Fairchild House is within an easy walk to the trolly and bus. There are lots of places to eat near by. I would definitely stay there again.

We didn't want you to go hungry at Breakfast! Happy to read you had a good stay here. Look forward to seeing you again.

Weekend bliss

4,4 sur juillet 17, 2011

Fairchild was great, a block off of St. Charles and the trolley. The staff was wonderful, and we felt we had the whole place to ourselves even though there were other guests. It has a secure parking lot and the breakfast was exactly what we were expecting and more.It was a great price and the room was just what we wanted. My next stay in New Orleans will be at the Fairchild again.

Réponse du propriétaire
Terrific to read you got what you wanted and that you will return. We enjoyed having you stay with us. Again, nothing like that streetcar to get you around. Thanks for the review.

A friendly home away from home

3,0 sur juillet 13, 2011

I would recommend the Fairchild to anyone looking for a change from the everyday hotel chains. Yes, there are quirks, but they are just that, quirks. Quiet location, easy access to the green line (St. Charles line), and near-by food & drug store. I enjoyed my stay in New Orleans and a big part of that was due to the charm of the Fairchild. I would stay there again.

Early July stay

3,8 sur juillet 12, 2011

While the house is old and the rooms are in need of updating, our stay was wonderful. The location is superb! A block from the streetcar and close enough to walk pretty much anywhere makes it an ideal location that is close to the action but far enough away for peace and quiet. Breakfast was simple but good. The hosts were nice and were full of great recommendations.

Réponse du propriétaire
We were happy to have you stay with us and that you like this location. You are tight, the house is old. We are working on some updates on the property and in the rooms.

First impression will be a lasting one!

4,2 sur juillet 05, 2011

My wife and I along with a couple of friends recently had a stay at the Fairchild. The staff was very warm and accommodating. This was our first experience with a B&B and we absolutely loved it. The neighborhood was so rich and historic. We love how life just seems to slow down in the Garden district and it is a completely different pace than down town New Orleans. My wife and I were on our way home and still laughing from our coversation with Rita, by the way we managed to leave that book in the back of our friends car!

Réponse du propriétaire
Sorry to hear you lost your book..I guess someone has new reading material now! It was so nice to have all of you stay here and really take in New Orleans. Just a note....we are in the Lower Garden District.

Wonderful hardwood floors and cool rooms after a hot day!

4,2 sur juillet 05, 2011

This is not your high dollar bed and breakfast, but you get more than you pay for. The owners and staff are friendly, everything is kept clean, you can sit out on the font porch and listen to the water trickling into a large fountain. A small refrigerator in the room (which worked out great since the New Orleans heat sometimes quelled my appetite when dining out). I did not think much of the room having a window unit A/C until I had been out in the New Orleans heat and came into my cool, cool room! Heaven! The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was a pleasant affair. My only complaint was that although there was an antique desk in the room, it was locked so I had no where to set up my laptop to work. Other rooms may have desks, just ask. I very much enjoyed my stay!

Réponse du propriétaire
We checked out the desk and not sure how it got locked. All better now! I am glad that did not spoil your stay. Those ac units are indispensable here in the summer! Thanks for the review.

Absolutely love the Fairchild House! I'll be back for sure!

4,8 sur juillet 02, 2011

Everything about my stay at the Fairchild House was perfect! Beatrice and Rebecca made my stay even better by offering info about local hot spots and some of the local customs. I will definitely be back and will be recommending to all fellow travelers on their way to New Orleans!

A perfect way to experience New Orleans

5 sur juillet 01, 2011

My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay at Fairchild House, located in the gorgeous Garden District, conveniently adjacent to the bustling Central Business District and one block from a St. Charles Avenue streetcar stop. Beatriz is a warm and welcoming host, and her extensive knowledge of the city enhanced our visit. Our bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable, our breakfasts fresh and delicious. The low cost of our stay allowed us to fit more food and fun into our budget. Highly recommended!

Great hospitality and good value

4,4 sur juin 30, 2011

I recently stayed 3 nights at the Fairchild House Bed & Breakfast. I was looking for a good value and this B&B provided this as well as wonderful hospitality and attentiveness in a safe, secure setting. Although my room was not fancy in decor, it was very clean and comfortable. The St. Charles Trolley is one block away and I used it for all my trips to the downtown and French Quarter areas. This lodging experience was very good and I recommend the Fairchild to those who are looking for a unique lodging experience.

The Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast is a wonderful place to stay in New Orleans. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Stayed here for a couple of nights, excellent location close to the tram and St Charles Street dining, would definitely come back if in New Orleans again. The secure parking was a big plus for us, as we were traveling with a motorcycle and trailer and leaving it in the street was not going to work.

Honeymoon visit

3,2 sur juin 10, 2011

My wife and I were in New Orleans for our honeymoon. This was our second time visiting the city. We wanted to try something different for the first time so we tried out our first B&B. We were met by a gentleman who was very polite and helpful and provided us with a key to our room. The room was cozy and looked like the picture on the web site (queen delux). The only downfall to the room was the bed. Unfortunately, the matress was very hard and had very little give to it. It was difficult for my wife and I to get comfortable, especially since she is 6 months pregnant. She used multiple pillows to get comfortable but was unsuccessful with getting a good nights rest. The location was very convenient and had easy access to the trolly line as well as to a drug store and food vendors. For breakfast, there was a really nice area to have cereal, breads, and fresh fruit. Beatriz was very nice and helpful with any questions that we had. I would definately like to do a B&B again but will probably seek out another place to try out next time. ~Coopers~ Cin, OH

Great place, great location!

4,2 sur juin 03, 2011

Really lovely place to stay! Beatrice is a fantastic host and loads of fun to talk with, and we very much enjoyed the several days we spent in New Orleans in April 2011 at Fairchild House. Fantastic location, close to Magazine Street and the Charles Street trolley. Pretty easy walking distance to the French Quarter as well. Our favorite evening was sitting on our beautiful balcony of our room overlooking Prytania Street drinking wine and eating cheese and salami bought at a nearby deli. Very relaxing and would highly recommend Fairchild House. Breakfast is self-serve but MORE than ample and satisfactory. We will definitely return!

Réponse du propriétaire

We had a great experience at Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast. The rooms were quaint. The breakfast was satisfying. The service was super. The value amazing. It was a fair walk to the downtown but the trolley is so close, there wasn't a problem. Stayed a week and had a great time. Would stay here again. Tim and Ruth Krueger

Very disappointing!

2,2 sur mai 21, 2011

Our room was NOTHING like the rooms shown on the website! Very plain & basic. I was shocked when we entered our room especially since we were there for a special occasion! Bed was VERY uncomfortable. The bed was so bad that we were ready to check out on day 3! You only get 1 flat pillow each. No closet and the armour was so bad there was no way I would try & hang anything in it. Dresser was ok but we basically lived out of our suitcases on the floor. Only had 1 tiny bar of soap for the sink & shower initially. It's soap--come on!!!! No coffee pot in our room as advertised. TV was a joke! Only had 13 channels. Gardens need a lot of help! I've stayed at B&Bs all over the world & this was the worst I've ever stayed in. Nothing special--not even close! No basic common area to hang out in except the breakfast room. On a positive note: Air conditioner was awesome! Only had breakfast there twice and it was very good! Only problem is it's only from 8:30-9:30am so if you book a tour early forget it! Beatrice was wonderful!

We'd stay here again.

4,0 sur mai 20, 2011

Our entire experience at the Fairchild House was pleasant, and the whole staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Since it was the center stop of a long trip, it was great to find a laundromat just a couple of blocks away and to have access to an iron and ironing board. Our car stayed safe in the locked lot, and proximity to the St. Charles Avenue streetcar made it easy to get around.

Wonderful service, Fantastic Location

4,4 sur mai 17, 2011

The Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast exceeded my expectations! The location was absolutely perfect. In a quiet part of NOLA but easy access to the trolley car and if you don't feel like going too far for a meal there is FANTASTIC dining in walking distance. The service was great and the rooms were very clean. I recommend the Fairchild B&B and will certainly be back!

Fantastic New Orleans B&B

4,6 sur mai 16, 2011

This was a great place to stay! The location was incredible, a very quick cable-car ride into the city if you want it, but most days we just walked to the downtown and to the French Quarter. The staff was great, they were always there when we needed them and had great advice on where to go, what to do, and of course what to eat! It was a beautiful stay with a nice outdoors space, great food and service, and a perfect location for an amazing price! I will definitely return ps - its a very quick walk to VooDoo BBQ from here, making its location even better!

Nice B& B

4,0 sur avril 26, 2011

This location was good as it was quiet, and one block up you could hop on the trolley to get to get about. Emeril's Del Monico Resturant is excellent and only a few blocks where you can go dressed up but prices are not outrageous. Our room at the B & B was not very fancy ( ps--no hair dryer or ironing board) but it is an old place. Breakfasts were wonderful and very friendly.

Réponse du propriétaire
I am happy you enjoyed your stay. We do provide irons, ironing boards for guest use. I also have hair dryers in most of the rooms and some that float around the smaller rooms.

Nice, quiet place to avoid hustle & bustle

3,2 sur avril 24, 2011

This was our first trip to New Orleans. The city was so crowded, noisy, and busy that we felt like we were in NYC. Fairchild House was a GREAT place to come back to in the evenings when we needed some peace & quiet. Although it's in a quieter part of town, it's still within quick & easy access by FOOT to the French Quarter & Canal Street. It's only about a 5-minute walk to the trolley, but we ended up walking all the way to the French Quarter (the trolley was filled up), and that was only about a 30-minute leisurely walk. This place is very safe & secure with a locked gate & locked parking area. Highly recommended!!

Réponse du propriétaire
Thats Spring in the city. Eveyorne wants to be here when the weather is nice...come back in August!! The Streetcar is just a block away, however suring such a busy time it fills up quickly. Sometimes it is easier to walk that mile to the Quarter. Thanks for the review.

Charming and convenient

3,8 sur avril 21, 2011

The location was perfect for walking as well as for the St Charles street car. Beatrice is a lovely hostess with intereting stories about the area, and was willing to accommodate our odd schedule and personal needs. We were close enough to walk to the French Quarter, but we were pleasantly surprised at the very good local restaurants only a block or two away. Be sure to try Mia's. And take the street car to the end of the line for a wonderful view of the Garden District. Yes, we will seek out Fairchild House when we make a return visit to New Orleans.

Great place if you don't need frills!

3,4 sur avril 21, 2011

I really enjoyed my stay at the Fairchild house, though it should be noted that I am definitely low maintenance. The room had everything I needed, but I know most people like having a TV. It was very simple, but had loads of character and was quite clean. I think a TV could have been made available, but I wasn't interested. It's located in a great part of town... just on the edge of the Garden District. My morning runs were beautiful. It is also just one block from the trolley, which goes to the Universities or to the French Quarter. I really liked that it was a bit set apart from the ultra-busy city center. ONe of the best parts of my stay was having a long chat over breakfast with the bell hop! Great character and charm, and the price is right for the more frugal, simple travelers. I walked to the Convention Center every morning for a conference, and passed a couple of great cafes on the way.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Fairchild House. Beatrice was extremely accommodating, friendly and a joy to talk to. On the morning we had an early tour she opened for breakfast early to accommodate us. Our King bed room was large and gave us plenty of room to move around easily. The morning continental breakfast was good and had a nice variety of choices. The outside patio was a nice place to sit and relax in the morning or after a long sightseeing day. The location was excellent, one block to St. Charles street car or within a nice long walking distance to the French Quarter. There were many nice restaurants in close proximity of The Fairchild House. We would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone.

First-Rate Experience

Everything about Fairchild House exceeded my expectations. The room was charming. The bathroom was clean and had updated fixtures; the air conditioner was a new Friedrich. The free, locked parking was an unexpected bonus. The breakfast was lovely, as was the room it was served in. On a festival weekend when downtown hotels were charging hundreds of dollars a night, I had my own private (and very quiet) oasis a short block from the St. Charles Streetcar for $79 a night. I can't recommend the Fairchild House highly enough, and will definitely stay again.

We were looking quite a while for a reasonable stay in New Orleans - which was more difficult than we thought it would be. Finally, we found the Fairchild House - which turned out to be very good luck for us. We recommend this Bed & Breakfast to anyone. The room was clean and quite, and the innkeeper very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we had to leave very early and cannot comment on the breakfast therefore.

My boyfriend and I were planning our trip to NOLA when we decided to stay at a B & B instead of a regular hotel. After careful consideration and reading rave reviews, we picked Fairchild House. We were pleased with our stay! Very safe parking area, quiet house, nice bedroom and bath combo and very friendly and helpful staff. It was a little farther from where we had meant to be, but chalk that up to inexperience in traveling. Overall, it was very nice and would stay again.

We were Delighted With Our Stay

5 sur avril 04, 2011

We loved our stay at The Fairchild House. The room, the bed and the bath were all comfortable, clean, well appointed, and ample. We had booked a double bed room but since the king was available, the owner, gave us an upgrade for which we were really appreciative. We loved the frig in our room and the big bath tub with lots of hot water. Beatriz, the owner, was friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming, and her breakfasts of fresh breads, fruit, juice tea and coffee, and cold cereal with milk was hearty and served us well. She even stored my gluten free bread in her frig so that I could make my own toast and offered to provide breakfast for us early on the day we flew home and had to be at the airport at 7:30 am. The Fairchild House is located in the lower Garden District fairly close to downtown (within walking distance) and only one block from the St. Charles St. trolley. We got a 3 day trolley pass that served us well. We walked to the Lafayette Cemetery and found good restaurants, (Voodoo BarBQue) close to the B&B and lots more in the Garden District. It isn't the ritziest part of town but we never felt unsafe walking home from the trolley. We'll definitely stay here when we go back. We loved everything about it. Even a 24 hour Walgreens on St. Charles nearby. Gotta love it.

Very friendly and nice atmosphere

I spent five days in room 5, which is one of the smaller rooms overlooking the side road. I was attending a conference at the convention centre, which is around a 20 minute walk. The St Charles tram is very nearby. The room is small but ok for one person, and very quiet. Unlike more expensive hotels, they do not charge for wifi which worked well in the sitting areas, which are also very nice, but was a bit low powered in the room itself. Breakfast is good, and the owners are welcoming and very helpful. They are fans of the UK comedy series Fawlty Towers, but you'd never guess, maybe it helps them channel any frustrations they have with tricky guests!

Nice property, very reasonable in price, very easy to get to Garden District sites and French Quarter by street car or by walking. Great deep claw foot tub in our room. Very thin walls, could hear everything, but this is to be expected given the age of the building. Not a problem at night though, all was very quiet. Lots of healthy options for breakfast.

a very pleasant stay

3,6 sur février 12, 2011

The Fairchild House (really 2 adjacent buildings) is a historically untampered-with set of buildings that have good access to the Garden District of New Orleans and is run by some exceptionally friendly folks who really bent over backwards to accomodate my erratic schedule. It is a very good value for a city that justifiably has rather high prices for its rooms, as long as one does not expect that last word in glitzy restoration. For that one would pay twice as much. My wife and I were quite pleased.

Réponse du propriétaire
Erractic schedule? What erractic schedule? Happy we could make it all happen the right way for you both. Thanks for taking the time to review Fairchild House.

Great location near museums and streetcar

4,2 sur janvier 27, 2011

My wife and I stayed in late January and really enjoyed the Fairchild. Beatriz was very friendly and helpful with our questions about things to see and do in New Orleans. Breakfast was good with an assortment of fruit, muffins, bagels, cereal, and a home-made egg dish. Good coffee, too. We really liked the house. It was fairly cold for New Orleans during our stay (lows in the low 30's), but the window unit did a nice job of keeping us warm. We stayed in room 15 and had a nice private bath with a coffee maker, fridge, and small TV. The house itself was very nice with its 14-foot ceilings and cypress-wood flooring. We parked our car in the Fairchild's 3-car private parking lot and never used it at all during our stay. The location is great because it's one block off St Charles (and the streetcars) and 8 blocks from the WW II Museum. We rode the streetcars to Bourbon St, Algiers ferry, Tulane, Carrollton, and the Metairie cemetery. Overall, it was a very fun and affordable trip. We will definitely check availability at Fairchild on our next trip.

I love that you visited so many neighborhoods and used the streetcars. Great way to see the city! I am happy to know you enjoyed the city and staying with us. By the way, I can get up to 8 cars between our 2 parking areas. Thanks for taking the time to review our property. Hope to see you again.

Convenient Stay in Lower Garden District

4,0 sur janvier 16, 2011

Beatrice and Rita are lovely hosts at this quaint B&B with a perfect location. Free secure parking and one block from the Saint Charles streetcar which runs every 15 minutes all day and 24/7 so park your car and explore New Orleans. We were upgraded to a queen room which was a pleasant surprise. Soft fluffy towels, clean bathroom, OK bed and pillows. Great neigborhood for walking and exploring.

Thanks for the review. Thanks also for pointing out we are in the Lower Garden Distric. We also enjoyed having you here. Will check into those pillows and bed.

Character not luxury

2,8 sur janvier 14, 2011

In New Orleans for a conference, I wanted to avoid the chain hotel and see some of the city. The nearby street car made it easy to get around (but timing was inconsistent). The house was impressive in architecture and interesting to be inside. It reminded me of the apartments in old houses that I rented in my 20s....character with a lot of coats of old paint and some quirky layouts and adjustments. I would not return for a romantic weekend, but would consider as a relatively lower cost space from which to view the city. I did not eat the breakfast and cannot comment on this. I only saw the inn keeper when I arrived. She was pleasant.

Thank you for the review. Happy to know we have character. I am not clear on what you mean by "some quirky layouts and adjustments". The room you stayed in does not strike me as having any unusual layout. There is a patch of paint by the bed where we had a leak and it needs to be repainted. It seems I dropped the ball on that. I believe the closet should also be repainted on the inside, however I we do not have lots of coats of old paint. As far as not returning for a romantic weekend I can not agree with you either. I know we have hosted numerous guests in 19 years who have made their stay romantic.

Clean friendly Place

I see this was your first time staying in a B&B! We are happy you enjoyed our property. Again, for clarification we are in the Lower Garden District. Thanks for the review.

Pleasant Experience...

4,4 sur janvier 05, 2011

This was a nice room for the price. Friendly service was a plus. Only one drawback....small t.v....I know people do not stay at a house like this one for a t.v....but, a nicer t.v. would have made a nasty weather day more bearable. Would definitely stay again!!!!

Boy, that was some nasty rain we had! Happy to know you enjoyed your time here. We will begin to look into your suggestion on the tv size. Thank you for taking the time to review our property.

5 Night Christmas visit

3,6 sur janvier 03, 2011

A search engine I used told me that the Fairchild House was located within the Garden District which is where we wanted to stay. It is not. I inquired upon check-in if this was the Garden District and was told it is "considered the lower Garden District." That said, it did not spoil our visit and the Fairchild House represents a very good value for the money. It is 2 short blocks from the St. Charles streetcar which took us everywhere we wanted to go--including the Garden District. We would stay there again; comfortable clean rooms, secured parking, a nice breakfast each morning and both Beatriz and Rita were so very helpful and friendly. Thank you! Gary & Patrice

Great Location to see New Orleans

Service was outstanding. Very knowable information about New Orleans and its history. Would recommend to best friends and anyone interested in spending time in NOLA. Great location, close to Streetcar lines that will take you to anything of interest.

Perfect Stay

I needed a room for one night only and the Fairchild was perfect. Location was fantastic. Room was small but clean. I even had a private door to outside.

Thanks for the review. I am happy to know you enjoyed your stay. For future reference, we do offer a variety of sizes of rooms at Fairchild House. I hope to see you again!

Excellent!

4,6 sur novembre 04, 2010

A friend and I decided to go to New Orleans for Halloween weekend. I feel like I looked at a hundred hotels (most of them in the French Quarter) and they were either too expensive or had bad reviews. Trying to think of other options, I started looking into B&Bs, which is how I found the Fairchild House. Reasonably priced and good reviews. Although it was not in the French Quarter like I had hoped for, it was close enough (we were able to walk there and take a cheap cab back). Beatriz was very friendly and helpful. It was our first time in New Orleans and she had some great tips on places to go while we were there. Overall we had a great experience staying at the Fairchild House!

Thanks for the review. Happy you both had a great Halloween Weekend. It was a beautiful weekend!

Good value for the price

4,0 sur octobre 18, 2010

We had an excellent stay. The owner was wonderful and a wealth of information. The B&B is located close to downtown and the riverwalk and we were able to walk everywhere. This is not a typical B&B in that it did not have a parlor for guests to congregate. Guests did get together at breakfast which is basically a continental one (laws do not allow them to serve a fully cooked breakfast).

Réponse du propriétaire
Thank you for the review. We appreciate guests taking time to write about their stay at Fairchild House.

Just Okay

This Bed and Breakfast could be so much more. The pluses were safe parking and good breakfast. The minuses were lack of decor and attention to detail.

Réponse du propriétaire
Thanks for the review. Glad to know the parking and breakfast were a plus. We want to always make eveything at Fairchild House a plus for all of our guests. I sure would appreciate more information on what decora and other details we should improve on.

Fairchild House Review

3,8 sur août 13, 2010

We haven't dined there, so I don't really have an opinion for that. We love the location. We have stayed there several times over the years and always want to go back. It's close to the trolly which makes for easy maneuvering day and night. The rooms are comfortable and parking is provided in an enclosed area, which is good. It is difficult getting your vehicle in and out, but we still feel safer leaving the vehicle inside the compound. It is quiet and we like that. The grounds are lovely. As I saw, we always seem to choose to go back there!

Réponse du propriétaire
Thank you for the review. We love to know guests take full advantage of the Streetcar on St. Charles. Sometimes the parking lot can get quite full and we have to move cars around. We are happy to move cars to accommodate all guests.

friendly staff, good location away from crowds

4,0 sur août 05, 2010

I stayed 1st weekend Jazz Fest 2010 and my room was quaint and location quiet. Everyone was friendly, staff and guests. A few blocks from streetcar so no driving/parking hassles to get to Festival and French Quarter (however waiting is inevitable during Jazz Fest for everything).

Réponse du propriétaire
Thank you for the review. Glad to know you enjoyed the quiet location. The Historic Streetcar on St. Charles Avenue is just one block from Fairchild House. We love being so close to the sto. It definitely gets busy at Jazz Fest.

Wonderful quiet retreat!

4,4 sur mai 14, 2010

I spent 2 nights at Farichild House while collecting my daughter from Tulane and it was perfect for me. Easy access off the interstate and one block from the streetcar made the location perfect for me. My room was comfortable and clean and Beatriz was very helpful with anything I needed. The breakfast was perfect with good choices. I will be back when my daughter returns to Tulane and am looking forward to it.

Réponse du propriétaire
Thanks. I love you were able to use the streetcar to get to Tulane. See you next time.

So nice

Home Away From Home

4,6 sur février 27, 2008

My sister and I needed a nurturing place to stay at the last minute, due to a medical emergency in our family. We felt like we were in a "home away from home" at the Fairchild House in N.O. The owner Beatrice was so gracious and made us feel so comfortable. We will definitely stay at Fairchild House again when we're in N.O.

Bed & Breakfast with great charm

4,6 sur décembre 23, 2007

We stayed here for a week in December 2007. If you want bell boys, front desk etc then this isn't for you. But if what you want is quiet, antique furniture, varnished floors, a very convenient location, & really helpful hosts - & at a very reasonable rate - then this is where you should stay
