This was my second visit to Il Picchio and once again itwas fantastic . Gordon and Linda have lovingly restored this farmhouse which is only a 15 minute drive from the beautiful walled town of Lucca. The rooms are individually decorated , with thoughtful touches like providing hairdryers, and the beds are really comfortable. Linda and Gordon are great hosts and can provide so much useful information regarding best local eateries, places to visit, walks, cycle trails etc and will even let you use their bikes if you are feeling energetic! You might need the excercise after all the homemade bread, jams and pastries provided for breakfast. Delicious.

This was my second stay with Linda and Gordon in Il Picchio and I am definitely going back! They are wonderful hosts, from the moment they collected us( , my sister, myself and a friend) from Pisa airport and installed us in the garden with a welcoming glass of proseccoso as we acclimatised ourselves the surrounding beauty to the time we waved them a rather sad goodbye a week later they couldn't do enough for us to ensure that our stay was all we were hoping for (and more!) They are , kind , thoughtful and a mine of priceless information about things to do and see lcally and farther afield , they know the bestplaces to eat and shop , where to get the most delicious gelati in Tuscany and where to buy locally produced honey , olive oil and vino that only the locals know about! The rooms are comfortable spacious and quiet each one lovingly decorated in it's own unique style and with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Breakfast is a delight, nothing is too much trouble (ask for Gordon's home -made bread!) The amazing medieval city of Lucca is only a 15 minute drive down quiet , winding country roads through fields of wildflowers and birdsong. Il Picchio is well worth a visit, we left feeling pampered, relaxed and with our spirits revived. Can't wait to go back! Truly a hidden gem!
