My wife and I stayed at the Dragonfly for 10 days 9 nights. In a world where technology overshadows the beauty of nature and the satisfaction of genuine human connections, this ranch is a respite, a chance to commune with nature and island culture. While we were there we met traveling artists, musicians, archeologists, boat captains, lava walkers, a magician and fellow adventurers from all over. The relaxed, "hang loose" atmosphere fostered a chance to share life stories, and interact with guests in a way that would never have happened in another setting. You get a healthy breakfast every morning with a bold cup of Kona Coffee. If you're fortunate to stay long enough to enjoy dinner with the hosts, you will not be disappointed. The staff at the Dragonfly make this a special event. On our dinner we had fresh salad from their organic garden, delightful pan seared chicken or fish prepared with local ginger and citrus, and a hearty grain pilaf. Dessert was the most astonishing, vegan, chocolate-lovers delight. This mousse was prepared with raw cocoa and avocados, and island staple. If you go, expect your accommodations to be indoors & outdoors. What does that mean? The flowers and plants on the Kona side of Hawaii are breathtaking. The island breeze blows through the screens to your room, and you smell the ocean. You are in the jungle. There are bugs. And singing frogs! Which my wife loved to hear as she fell asleep each night. If you're a planet conscious person you have reached a retreat with likeminded individuals. The food is sourced locally and is always fresh. Many of the staff are vegetarian or vegan, so if this appeals to you, you can expect to never go hungry. However, the retreat accommodates omnivores comfortably as well. We were within minutes to a great New York style pizza joint in Captain Cook. We were also within minutes of some of the best snorkeling, dolphin viewing, and black sand beaches that grace the big island.

The new manager KC certainly is earning his keep! we had run low on lemon juice and cayenne pepper and he was eager to help put. He did get us a lemon, so it was 50% success! Definitely would look in to staying here again. The only downside was that we were required to pay in fiat money---owner refused to accept our bill with A4V stamped on it. Guess you can't have everything!

Dragonfly was recommended by friends, and as promised, the manager Casey paid special attention to my needs. He's a 'hands on' kind of manager! Cuisine enhanced by native Hawaiian herbs, and experimentation with large green vegetables is encouraged! The open-air semi-private rooms are unique. Helping push-start their van was easy. Emergency medical services are excellent too.

Casey was a great host. We enjoyed the geckos in our room. The outdoor experience with outdoor bathrooms was fun. We had some great organic breakfasts. Thank you for a great stay.

Dolphin Room
On the same level as the Dragonfly Room, separated by a bathroom, the Dolphin Room is contiguous to the living room with a sound-proofed wall and king sized bed. Sounds from the road, which has very few cars at night, is less in this room than any other space. A note for late sleepers, however: breakfast sounds can be heard in the kitchen early in the morning. The dolphin decor is charming and many people like the private entrance and toilet, sink and shower area, which is screened in with bamboo for privacy.

The Dragonfly Room is part of the main house, which is shaded by the canopy of a giant monkey-pod tree. The bedroom is located up 3 stairs to the right of the kitchen. It has a queen-sized bed and a full bath with tub inside--as well as a beautiful private outdoor shower. Room guests are welcome to use the main house kitchen. We loved our time at Dragonfly Ranch - although it was too brief. Next time we will definitely be staying longer. Barbara was the most gracious host. She took us snorkeling, we practiced yoga in the labyrinth, and toured the organic garden. We even ate food that had been freshly picked from it. She truly cares about each person who stays there. And there's always such interesting people who stay there. I was 7 months pregnant at the time, and I was lovingly cared for. All of my needs were met. If you're planning a trip to the Big Island - this should definitely be where you stay!

We loved our weeklong stay at the Dragonfly Ranch. Even better than our first time fifteen years ago. The staff and Barbara made us feel special while we were there. The food was delicious. All organic and fresh each day. Matt especially enjoyed the "magic pot" which contained something different each morning. The bowl of fruit each day was a real treat to those of us that only get fresh and local fruit in the summer time. The coffee was some of the best we've ever had......made fresh each morning.....Our time ended all to soon. I would recommend the Dragonfly Ranch to anyone who wants to enjoy the authentic Hawaii and would like to stay at a place that feels like a home away from home. Aloha!!

The food is incredible and healthy. The staff is exceptional. The rooms are artistic and unique. The natural surroundings are ideal! We loved our time at Dragon Fly.

We spent 2 wonderful nights at the Dragonfly. The bed and bedding were the best I've ever experienced. The Hiltons' beds are junk next to this place. After sleeping that comfortably we had a yummy breakfast with wonderful company. Then, the views, OMG...the sunset from the illuminarium was amazing. We will be returning for sure.

Comment venir à la propriété:
Juste après le marqueur de mille 104 forment le Nord sur la route 11 ou mille marqueur 103 du Sud, tourner sur route 160--vers l'océan. Nous sommes situés exactement une et une seule moitié milles sur route 160, sur le côté droit. Que vous transmettez le restaurant et le jardin botanique de Wakefield (à gauche), rechercher tout droit vers le bas de la route et vous verrez deux flèches marquant un pli nets de la route et un grand panneau disant LIBELLULE. Juste au-delà de la deuxième flèche sur la droite vous voyez une boîte de messagerie d'envergure sur un ohia valider disant "Accueil". Tourner à droite, dans notre allée (au-dessus de laquelle se bloque une déesse de la libellule). Un signe dit: «Dragonfly Ranch.» Ouvrir la porte et le lecteur sur dans !

Comment venir à la propriété:
Tournez à droite de l'aéroport sur la route principale (autoroute 11). Lecteur environ 24 milles. Ensuite, vous verrez un signe de l'autoroute pour Honaunau ; soyez attentif aux signes de marqueur de milles de route (petites, rectangulaires et verts) ! Une fois que vous transmettez le marqueur de 104 km, chercher à tourner à droite sur la route 160, qui est clairement marqué par un grand panneau: "Pu'uhonua o Honaunau". Nous sommes situés exactement un et un seul milles de moitié sur route 160. Suivez les instructions ci-dessus.
