Casa Lima Bed & Breakfast

The staff and owner of Casa Lima are friendly and accommodating. They even loaned us the owner's GPS when we rented a car for a day trip. Between the attentive staff and the two cats, one parrot, capucin monkey and daring squirrel, we always felt at home and entertained. Good location, close to good restaurants and a big shopping center within walking distance.

I would recommend Casa Lima. beutiful tropical courtyard gets you in the mood of Costa Rica. Good food, service and people. close to all, especially if you are connecting to Nature Air departures to other parts of the country as it near the Pavas airport.

My experience in Casa Lima was very good. It was my first time being outside the US for an over night extended stay of over a week. The room I had was nice and comfortable and very clean. The shower was a new experience to get used to, but the shower is typical in Costa Rica and was just fine once you learn how to use it. What really made this an amazing experience was the live animals and a rainforest type atmosphere which was only superceded by the owner and staff. They became friends more than the owner and "hired help". Except for staying at the homes of friends I would choose Casa Lima as a home away from home again. Thank you Casa Lima for a great introduction to Costa Rica.

The rooms are a bit old & there is no place to put anything, but they are clean & comfortable. The interior of the Casa Lima is hard to describe, you have to see it to appreciate it, so much hard work goes into maintaining such a tropical paradise in the middle of the city. Nelson. the owner/manager is very hospitable, informative, & helpful. The housekeeping ladies do an excellent job & are friendly & will be patient with you if you want to practice your Spanish. Danny also makes the effort to make your stay enjoyable. They have an excellent restaurant with authentic Cuban food & the breakfast will get your day started just fine! And they can provide reliable tours.

I booked into Casablanca Lima based on the photos that showed a lush, green central courtyard surrounded by clean and well appointed rooms at a very reasonable rate, and that's exactly what I found on my arrival there. What I hadn't anticipated was the open friendliness of the staff, who were available aalnd eager to do their part in seeing to it that I enjoyed my stay not only while at Casa Lima, but also while I was out and about in San Jose and the rest of the country. Daniel met me at the front desk and soon proved himself to possess a wealth of knowledge about places to see, both in the city and the country at large. More importantly, he never treated me as a friend as did Nelson the proprietor. On the night of my second day at Casa Lima, I joined Danny and Nelson in the kitchen and we cooked a meal of fresh caught dorado together, then sat down and ate together with a few other guests, laughing and talking as if we were old friends, not people who had met only the day before. This feeling of easy comradery apparently was felt by the other guests, as I left there with a pocketful of business cards and exhortations to call when I was in their area. There are two friendly cats that wander the grounds, a very friendly white -faced monkey named Don Timon, a green macaw who will let you scratch her head with a minimum of encouragement, and budgies and a pond full of goldfish that is fed by a charming waterfall, and a wild squirrel that comes down every morning fornfruit and tontaunt the cats.

My stay at Casa Lima was wonderful! I have stayed there twice and they have the best food and atmosphere! Nelson the owner will do everything and anything you need to make your stay enjoyable. He goes out of his way to help you and then some. He even went to the market with me, the bank you name it, he will do it. Everyone who works there are so nice and so kind. It really shows to. If you are looking for a five star hotel,then this is not the place for you, it is neat, clean and it was good enough for me. I was there having Dental Work at Prisma Dental. It is very close and easy to get to. When Nelson was not busy which is rare he would run me over there. It is cozy and a family run business. Just do not get to close to Kiko the Monkey. He is adorable and like a human. I wanted to take his picture he he decided to throw his arm out the cage at me. It startled me and I went into the fish pond with my camera as well. It broke my camera submerging under water. When Nelson came to get me out, I looked up and Kiko was laughing and jumping up and down that I could not be mad, pain from falling, but hey what is a vacation without some action right? Enjoy your stay, so much fun there with the guests in the Lobby as well hanging around in the evenings.

My husband, son and I stayed at Casa Lima for one week. A lovely tropical courtyard and very comfortable accommodations. The staff helped tremendously with finding tours, drivers. They knew where to go in city, and what tours were available for excursions to other places. Also, all the folks who worked there were friendly, available and so welcoming. It was like being with friends. Very upbeat; relaxing.

I can't say enough about the service which was fantastic. Everyone from the owner to the waitstaff to the cleaning services were wonderful. Every night when we got into our room not only was it cleaned but clothes were folded and the room was organized which was great. The rooms were more spacious than I was expecting which was also a bonus for such a great price. The breakfast was delicious and included rolls, fresh jams, fresh fruit, pineapple juice, and coffee with a great selection of hot breakfast items to supplement for a very reasonable cost. The options for lunch and dinner were limited to pasta and pizza but were tasty. The only negative that I can say is that it is not located in the best neighborhood but the bed and breakfast itself left little to be desired. All in all I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to stay near San Jose for a reasonable price.

Great hospitality, with good food. Made you feel like you belonged there. Found out from other guests that St Jose is the place to go for extensive dental work, so I'll be going back.

My wife and I went to St. Jose for extensive dental treatment. A friend in Atlanta recommended Casa Lima for our stay which was close to Prisma Dental and at a reasonable cost. We found it to be a charming B&B with guest rooms enclosing a tropical jungle garden that contained a caged monkey, parrots, fish, and exotic plants. The guest rooms were clean and comfortable, all different, and our room overlooked the garden. The entire staff made us feel at home. Nelson Ruiz, the inn keeper and his brother, Ricky, accommodated every need. Cheerful, diminutive Pana, the all-purpose person, cooked, carried luggage, and was the resident artist who had decorated walls with his folk art. Nelson, the consummate travel advisor, having seen most of destinations first hand, helped us plan tours. The food is Cuban/Costa Rican and the pizza is the best I have ever tasted. The intimate dinning area is a social gathering place where we met a host of interesting people having exciting adventures. All in all, Costa Rica and Casa Lima was a great experience.

I stayed at Casa Lima for 10 days while on business. I've been to CR many times before and usually stay in Escazu. This was centrally located and extremely convenient. Casa Lima is charming. The courtyard is a lush jungle complete with a trickster monkey :-) The rooms (I've stayed in 2) were clean and well furnished. The continental breakfast is fantastic...watch out for those seducing breakfast rolls. The owner, Nelson, and his extended family, are on site daily and help with anything you might need. It's in a quiet, safe neighborhood within easy walk of a great Tico restaurant. I will be staying there again in November.

The rainforest atmosphere with parrots, monkey, birds, koi pond was refeshing in contrast to the chain hotels we had stayed in before. The rooms were simple, clean and very reasonable. Because of the convenient location we were able to walk instead of taking taxis. The fool was excellent. The tilapia and pizza were best we've had. I would definitely recommend Casa Lima. The owners and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

My fiance and I stayed at Casa Lima this past July for 2 nights. We were impressed from the moment we stepped foot into the cute little B&B! We had just finished a 10 hour drive from Mal Pais (lots of traffic!!) and were late arriving into San Jose. We arrived to CL around 1015 and as soon as we walked in, were greeted by lovely Judie. She offered to feed us (despite the fact that their kitchen had closed at 9pm) and promptly relayed to us a phone call that we had received earlier in the afternoon. We felt at home immediately! At dinner, Nelson and his daughter were sweet enough to share with us pictures of a Pacuare river rafting trip that they had done a few years before...the same rafting trip we were planning on doing the following day. After dinner at the pizzeria attached to the B&B, we were escorted to our clean & comfy room. The next day, we realized that we had left the light on in our car & our battery had died. But Nelson was there to the rescue! Within 5 minutes, he had his car backed in near ours and the jumper cables out...what a relief! All in all- this is a great little bed & breakfast in a neighborhood near some great restaurants with the most amazing staff ever!

Casa de Lima bed and breakfast is a very nice, quiet, family oriented place to stay. I have stayed there twice and would recommend it to others. The owners and staff are very nice and make you feel like you are at home. They are very accommodating and are happy to assist you with anything you need. Evenings are nice sitting in the courtyard. And the price is excellent.

We had a very nice experience at Casa Lima! People there really made us feel like home! The place is so beautiful, it seems like a litlle cozy shelter in the middle of a jungle...!

Had a brief but pleasant stay - very good pizza, comfortable beds and engaging hosts. Had to leave to early for breakfast so unable to comment on that. After a long day of travel would have been nice to sit back with a beer or rum and coke without going down the street to a convenience store but other than that was a really nice place - would definitely stay again.

My wife Rosie and I spent a few days at the Casa Lima in January and we enjoyed it so well that we returned for a few more days upon our return from the beaches. The Hotel is beautifully arranged and the rooms are comfortable and roomy. Nelson and his staff are really freindly and outgoing and they made us feel so special. The tropical garden is a beautiful and serene place to relax, and we spent considerable time there. We ate most of our meals in the cafe and found there menu quite unique and the food delicious. We are hoping to return next year.

A truly outstanding B&B perfectly located family owned and operated. I've stayed at Casa Lima on 3 different occasions over the past 2 years, Nelson and his staff are always willing to help with the smallest details of your stay including any activities in the San Jose area. The food and the atmosphere at Casa Lima are 2nd to none in Costa Rica and Don Kiko provides great entertainment for kids and adults alike. If your planning a trip to San Jose be sure and visit Casa Lima. You'll be glad you did!

Staff was great. There was a mini rainforest like garden which was nice. Kiko the monkey was cute. The room was average. Couldn't get HOT shower, luke warm at best. Biggest complaint is that there were tons of bugs in my room. Mostly dead ones which shows that it hadn't been used or cleaned in a while. But also there were tiny ants which I didn't notice until I put my laptop on the floor one afternoon n when I came back to use it, they were crawling out as I typed. I doubt I would stay here again unless I had to. Oh, and there has to be a plant in the lobby that smells like pot cause I doubt the staff is smoking weed 24/7....

Shower in bathroom sparked when turned on, thought we would get electrocuted. Dishes and coffee pot not clean. Could not find B&B in our GPS. Tea was stale. Staff was friendly, Patio and lobby was very cozy.

Nelson, Pana and Kiko are our familia now!!! Only family can make you feel as comfortable as we did. Connie, Monica and myself are looking forward to returning again and again!!!

A great, clean, reasonably priced place to stay. Arriving at night we arranged airport pickup through the Casa Lima at $25, same price as for a taxi. The drive is about 25 min. We thought it good value and saved time. We stayed in two different rooms #11(executive) and #12(standard). Both were on the second floor and towards the back so very quiet. We preferred #12 as it had a much bigger bathroom and we did not need the desk area in #11. We had actually requested #15 and it was confirmed and reconfirmed we were in #15. We didn't care we weren't in 15, but if you're fussy it might be worth trying to get a specific room by calling them. As mentioned the rooms were very clean and comfortable with very good AC and TV. The bathrooms supplied the usual amenities. Breakfast is continental (large fruit plate, juice, rolls & jam, coffee) but there is also a menu to order from if desired. Lunch and dinner are also available at very reasonable prices. The banana pizza is delicious. We didn't need much in the way of extra arrangements, but what we did require, two very early morning taxis to go to the airports, were dealt with very efficiently by Pana, Casa Lima's seemingly jack of all trades. All the staff were friendly and helpful and we felt would go out of their way to help guests. A focal point of Casa Lima is the rainforest courtyard. Beautifully maintained and sets it apart from other places. Casa Lima is in a very nice and safe neighborhood a ten minute walk from the US embassy. We parked our rental car at Casa with no problems. If you want a little excitement walk to the embassy cross the street and take the #104 bus (.50c) into the city center. It's like an amusement park ride. We felt we didn't just stay at Casa Lima we enjoyed Casa Lima. We will definitely stay there again.

We went to Casa Lima upon our arrival in San Jose, and we were delighted with our stay at this amazing place. It was our first trip to Costa Rica and we did not speak Spanish. Casa Lima was the perfect place to transition into this lovely country. The Inn itself is charmingly decorated, and the staff is very competent, friendly and accomodating. A terrific continental breakfast comes with the room -- fresh fruit, great coffee, home-made muffins. A full breakfast is available if you so desire, as well as lunch and dinner...a very nice menu at reasonable prices. We were so pleased with our stay that we returned for a few added nights before coming back to the U.S.

The Casa Lima is a secure and lovely place to stay. It has a beautiful tranquil courtyard and is located near all the hustle bustle of the city. Easy ride from the airport. The food is very good, surprisingly so as I didn't expect that. Everyone is very kind and helpful and accomodating. I won't stay anyplace else. I highly recommend this, while it's not the Ritz, it doesn't have the Ritz prices. I think it's the best value you can find. A really great place.

We had a wonderful stay. Nelson set up our transportation from the airport and was there to greet was when we arrived, he made us feel right at home. He and the rest of his staff were amazingly helpful; we just let him know which tours/excursions we wanted to do and he set it all up for us. The food was delicious too. Casa Lima is located in a very quiet and safe area. It is about a 10-15 minute taxi ride to downtown San Jose depending on traffic, but there is a convenience store within walking distance that had anything we needed. The service we received was far beyond our expectations, thank you for helping to make our first trip to Costa Rica a fantastic experience! -The Olivers

We cannot say enough good things about Casa Lima! The staff is SO accomodating- they booked our tours every day and even help get our wallet back when we left it on the tour bus! We couldn't get enough of Don Kiko, the pet monkey they have. We can't wait to come back!

Last October 2009, I enjoyed the most beautiful experience, at a very affordable price! Booking just for a few days, to "test the place", I ended up staying for a whole month. The personnel is friendly, highly service oriented and they really exceeded my expectation. I highly recommend Casa Lima for short as well as long stays. Nelson, I just want to thank you and Marlene for taking us into your "home" during a very stressful part of our trip. If you recall we are the couple that had everything including our passports stolen during a home invasion in Playa Potrero. We had to come to San Jose to have our passports replaced. You all made us feel so relaxed and safe during our stay at Casa Lima. Even when the power went out just after we checked in. Of course only on your block. :-) You really made a nightmare turn into a very pleasant event in San Jose. We can not thank you enough. As owners of a Bed and Breakfast, We always look for unique and special Bed & breakfasts. My wife and I, extended our stay after a wonderful trip of 10 days with Caravan Tours. We stayed for four days. We did just want a place to totally relax before heading back to the states. Nelson was a wonderful host, the food was great and the gardens a wonderful retreat to sit and read. Enjoyed spending time with Kiko the freindly white faced monkey. Best Host, Good food- onsite restaurant, Beautiful gardens, Big rooms. Felt like family from the moment we walked in. The beds were excellent. Nelson helped arrange transportation from the airport, and a rental car for us. He introduced us to new foods, and helped us when we needed to contact the USA with an emergency at the end of our stay. Couldn't have been better. I will definitely stay ther again, and recommend to anyone staying in the San Jose area.

The staff at Casa Lima was Amazing! Ask for their Spaghetti or Pizza. It is increidible. We were newlyweds looking for cozy, quite, and simple. We got it! If you are a resort type of person- don't go there. If you are looking to experience true Costa Rican life, then this is the place to go. All around, I wouldn't have gone any other place. Be sure to say hi to Don Kiko! :-)

We spent 10 days at Casa Lima in January. We were in Costa Rica for dental appointments at Prisma Dental. The location was excellent for a short cab ride or longer walk for appointments. Nelson the B&B owner is bi-lingual and was an excellent host. Answering all questions, arranging transportation, providing a good continental breakfast, we were very comfortable for our stay. The B&B has a unique tropical courtyard and offers lunch and dinners at very reasonable cost. The B&B is walkable to Sabana Park and soon to be new soccer stadium. We enjoyed Sabana Park several occasions watching the local 'ticos' enjoy soccer games, pony riding, picnicking, rollerblading and just leisure strolling. We actually walked to San Jose and back twice and took the bus once. San Jose was a cool experience walking the many market areas and lunching at the small 'sodas'. The staff at Casa Lima were very nice and we thoroughly enjoy our stay. The trip worked out perfectly. Though my wife spent many hours in a dentist chair, she was very happy with the results at Prisma Dental and our stay at Casa Lima

If we never get back to Costa Rica we will still always remember The Casa Lima. We were taken such good care of neither my husband or I wanted to leave. The food is outstanding, the rooms are really nice and very clean.The nicest people we have ever met took care of us for 9 days there aren't enough stars to rate this experience. It is so beautiful and peaceful and the gardens are just so well taken care of. If given the opportunity please give the Casa Lima a try you'll love it. I enjoyed my stay at Casa Lima very much. It is nice and clean with lots of plants and a few birds plus Don Kiko, a naughty white head cappuccino monkey. It offers a family environment and the staff is service oriented. It is located in a nice neighborhood near downtown San Jose.

This is a beautiful B&B with a good location, lovely restaurant, clean, well appointed rooms, a beautiful jungle growing in the courtyard, friendly staff and a conscientious owner, and it's definitely worth the price.

very small room, not very clean in bathroom. Please don't stay in front street, there is a lot of noise. Breakfast could be better with eggs free for the price, is expensive.

We felt like God totally smiled on us when we arrived at Casa Lima. It is a beautiful BB, the rooms were so clean, smelled delicious, fresh flowers, all we needed was there. Rooms are mini suites. It was an amazing experience. Would not trade a five star hotel for this place. Location is super safe! Good neighborhood, centrally located. Lots close. The food, I frankly say has been the best I have eaten in CR. The attention was outstanding. I felt I was home and spoiled. It was raining and we wanted to stay home, they gave us a bag that included a DVD player and 5 new releases to choose from. Nothing is overlooked at Casa Lima. The price well very hard to beat as well. This place is a MUSt to stay at even if, your planning to visit other parts of the country, you must first experience Casa Lima.

We were amazed at the value, service, surroundings, beauty, and staff at Casa Lima. We loved all of the exotic birds, but Don Kiku was definitely the biggest hit! He is the funniest, friendliest monkey we have ever seen. The food was very tasty, and reasonably priced. Even their pizza is great! We could never have found a nicer place for the money, and we loved every person that worked there. They are also extremely helpful in setting up tours, and they really do make you feel as if you are right at home. We could not have been more satisfied! Nelson, the Innkeeper, has great taste in decorating, and is a delight to talk to! Do yourself a great favor, and stay here when you are in Costa Rica.

Joanne and Tara USA Rooms are uniquely different. The bed felt great and the room was spacious. The neighborhood very upscale minutes from the American Embassy. I felt secure-safe. It is within walking distance (5-10 min) mc donalds-shopping strip. Also close to bus to San Jose. Miguel very knowledgeable of bus-distance traveling - just very helpful for our one night stay. The lobby is so peaceful. You have a private atrium. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

We just finished a 4 day/3 night stay at Casa Lima. What a wonderful place! The atmosphere is breathtaking, the staff (especially Miguel and Xenia) are very helpful and friendly, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the food was excellent. We were so taken with Casa Lima that we have already recommended it to our friends. Miguel was wonderful as front desk/waiter/tour coordinator. His English is excellent, his recommendations were right on target, and his customer service was beyond compare. We will be back again.

I stayed in Casa Lima for a weeks time and I was blown away with the immense detail that they have put into the place. The minute you walk into the bed and breakfast you feel as though you have been transcended to another place, where all is beautiful and good. There garden is spectacular with all different kinds of exotic plants. The rooms were super cozy and I could hear the waterfall all night long, which was very soothing. The rooms have a lot of air circulating, I was never hot. The food was good and the staff was phenomenal. All in all it was a fabulous trip and Casa Lima made it even better. These pictures just don't do the place justice. I recommend you go and check it out for yourselves.

I have been to Costa Rica several times now. This time I wanted to stay away from downtown and Casa Lima was just what I hoped it would be. Although it lacks some of the amenities of the big hotels, it makes up in its charm and romantic environment. It is in a great location, walking distance to several restaurants, shops, etc. Ideal for someone who is there to tour different regions of Costa Rica . Front desk staff helped us with the tours and directions on how to get to different places… Overall very satisfied! Will recommend and we’ll return….

Visiting Costa Rica was a breath-taking experience! Casa Lima was quaint and exotic. Our room was cozy while allowing us to listen to the beautiful sounds of nature. Also, the courtyard was an exceptional place to sip a cool drink as well as relax. The prices were economical and the hospitality was exceptional!

I went with my wife last month to Casa Lima. She wanted that romantic feeling and she got it. We loved the patio. The manager was very friendly and upon our return from a long exhausting tour, we had a complementary bottle of wine awaiting for us in our room. Great touch! My wife loved the decor and all the different types of plants EVERYWHERE. Great place to stay totally worth the value.

I just got back from Casa Lima b&b & WOW!!!!...This place was AMAZING!!! The hospitality is so nice (Miguel was so kind & helpful, & speaks english very well). The set up of the place really makes you feel as if you are in a rainforest, with all the plants, trees & animals. I loooooved 'Kiko', the monkey...He is too cute! The food, service, & b&b itself was the best! They also upgraded our room for free & treated us to a free bottle of wine...this was so kind & shows how they go the extra mile to please their guests. The area is great to walk around in...not far from stores/restaurants. I will DEFINITELY stay here again when I return to San Jose. I highly recommend this b&b!

I was looking for a quick getaway not too far from the states when a friend recommended I check out Costa Rica. I had never been there before but I had heard about what a beautiful place it is. I got online, booked the flights and found this inexpensive bed and breakfast called Casa Lima. Located about 25 minutes from the airport, Casa Lima was more than I expected, a charming little place that set the tone for a very special weekend. The staff at Casa Lima was fabulous and helped me with selecting 2 tremendous excursions which picked us up right in front of Casa Lima. The first tour started with a spectacular tour of a volcano called Poas, then proceeded with a visit to La Paz Waterfall Gardens which contains some of the most amazing species in the world. The second tour was an incredible Canopy adventure, something I never thought I would ever do, became the coolest thing I ever did in my life as I safely "soared" from tree to tree by traversing along a cable from one mountain side to another. What a thrill! What a weekend! My wife loved it and I became a hero!

I'm a producer and I had to go on a location scout for a possible shoot in San Jose. I wanted to stay in a non-conventional well known hotel, because I like to be with the people one-on-one. It helps me to get a true feel and vibe for the place... So an associate recommended we stay here, just to see what its all about, and... What a wonderful surprised! I stayed in a Family suite and the service was wonderful. Great space, internet and everything... The next time I go there I'll be at Casa Lima FOR SURE. It's a great value for the pocket and exceeds your expectations on the whole experience.

I just traveled to Costa Rica for the thanksgiving holiday. I stayed at Casa Lima and loved it so much, that it was tuff when it was time to leave. It's a mini paradise...the lush greenery sorrounding the courtyard is breathtaking paired with the soothing sound of their waterfall. What a peaceful and beutiful place. Staff was amazing!

Loved the place…tranquil and relaxing. There is a man-made tropical courtyard right outside your window. And “KIKO” was adorable. Every morning, my friends and I had breakfast, which was included in the price, and head out for a day of adventure. The atmosphere in the hotel was just what we needed after a long day.

I just came back from spending a week in Costa Rica. Flew in to San Jose and stayed two nights at Casa Lima. It was a very unique bed and breakfast. I loved the courtyard, reminded me of being in an actual rainforest. This is so different from a hotel. I so much rather stay at a b & b. I loved it so much that after spending 3 nights in Manuel Antonio, I returned to Casa Lima for another 2 before returning to the states. Would definitely stay again.

I had never been to Costa Rica, and was very apprehensive on where to stay. I am from Miami and found Casa Lima via the internet. The service, the cleanliness, and the lush paradise that surrounds this picturesque bed and breakfast really made me connect with the beauty of Costa Rica. The food was spectacular and the friendly and helpful staff made me feel right at home. I would definitely recommend Casa Lima. It was a wonderful choice!!!!!

I stayed this summer at Casa Lima. How quaint and adorable it was and the price totally unbeatable. The staff was very friendly and attentive to my needs. You have to try the restaurant!! Specially the “ropa vieja”. It was AMAZING! The Court yard was very romantic and made me feel like if I was in the rain forest. A must see!
