Circa 1743. Experience the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of this 18th century hilltop estate with a 100 acres of private walking trails, meadows, woodlands and expansive lawns with inviting seating areas and a patio. Our historic Colonial home is furnished with English antiques. Comfortable guest bedrooms feature canopy beds with down comforters. Stay in Jane's or the 1743 room and soak in a clawfoot tub. Start each day with a hearty breakfast including organic eggs from our happy hens. High Acres is in close proximity to the seaside borough of Stonington, the popular attractions of Mystic, the white sand beaches of Rhode Island, as well as the area’s two casinos.

I stayed at High Acres on a last minute whim for Labor Day weekend because I could not stand another second of the city. It is exactly what I needed. The horse farm was beautiful. There are field and forest paths for hiking. The air smells sweet and the wild flowers were so pretty. At night you can see every star and listen to the crickets chirp! The house is a classic farm house and reminded me of where I grew up. I took loads of books to enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the cool summer night breeze. My room was large and Victorian style and had a terrific bed and full bath; something my Manhattan flat lacks. I really liked the breakfasts because there was always a fresh first course of fruit/yogurt and then a protein/bread course. I didn’t need seconds, but they offered every day anyways. The blueberry pancakes and eggs benedicts were especially delicious. I also sampled some of their home grown tomatoes and herbs. The owners were great. They really bent over backwards for me to have the vacation I sorely needed (last minute, late night, pet friendly, late departure). They are up for conversation if you are. Each morning they would ask me my plan for the day and give suggestions to make it better. Molly helped me map out my 20 mile training run (forest, vinyards, farms, and sunflower fields/the cycling must be amazing as well) and recommended the “best ice cream from anywhere” as refuel stop. It was great. They kept me out of the tourist traps and also recommended a great place for oysters, mayonnaise-free lobsterroll, and secluded beach in RI. I really enjoyed the location because it was out of the tourist area and just full of beautiful farms and wineries. I would recommend High Acres for those who want to relax in peace, take in some nature as well as for those who are active.
